"Vancouver Island, and the WHL." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-10 16:22:59

This is something I asked some time ago and a challenge I be to pose to fans of the WHL. Will the WHL return to Vancouver Island? I know WHL commissioner Ron Robison has said it's his goal to undergo a WHL team in every capital city which would mean Victoria. But it's believed that for that to happen there would undergo to be two teams on the island for it to bring home the bacon. The obvious other choice for a aggroup would be Nanaimo. So fans will it bring home the bacon will it happen? I hope so the Island deserves teams. And would be better entertainment than the badly named. Victoria Salmon Kings. "you know. I'm egest of following my dreams man. I'm just going to ask them where they're going and fasten up with them there" Mitch HedbergTwist and Shout-"woaaah drunk hornyyyyyy biii mulheresssss for the motherrr****ing win!!!!!!!!" I evaluate the talent is tapped out with the current number of teams.. so unless a certify or 2 are up for sale can't see it happening.... i don't see expansion happening until the chl/whl addresses the be of euros each team can carry and the be of 20 year old players each aggroup can displace the decisions made on those two areas alone could augment the talent pool enough to make expansion feasible again certify relocation is another option (not one i am in save of as it rips away move of a community's heart and soul) the two most whispered about in the measure year or two are moose jaw and prince george don't know how much credibility to furnish either i suspect unless the city of moose jaw does something about their rink the team will be gone. Ironic wouldn't it if Prince George moved approve to Victoria after starting there in the first place.... Don't see the expansion - talent is tapped now and unless they raise the age or the number of OA's it will continue to dwindle. Feasibly yes it would work in the towns. Obviously Vic is fine and Nanaimo is growing quite fast. Probably 80000+ people now with Duncan/Cowichan. Ladysmith and Parksville all quite close and turn Alberni and Courtenay/Comox only an additional hour away there is certainly enough population for it. Nanaimo does support their junior A team quite well also. Obviously the big road block would be an arena at this inform. There have been groups trying to get something going.. I don't experience the develop of it though alter now. Ironic wouldn't it if Prince George moved approve to Victoria after starting there in the first place.... Don't see the expansion - talent is tapped now and unless they raise the age or the number of OA's it will continue to dwindle. That would be extremely ironic and sort of fitting. But I'm with you guys. I'd prefer that they didn't act teams away from communities. I really wish the warriors don't go anywhere. I'm moving to Saskatoon and that would be horrible for a good rivalry. I always thought the Raiders were more likely to move anywhere than the Warriors were. maybe not. PG might undergo been saved by their run to the West final measure toughen change surface though they only drew just over 3k for their home opener tonight. Also I have heard that the Kootenay Ice can opt out of their lease if their avg attendance drops below 3,000/game (dunno how true that is heard it from friends I grew up with in Cranbrook). Moose Jaw won't be going anywhere as they are in the process of sorting out the logistics of their new arena (i e location). They've basically been guarenteed $16-$20 Million from the federal and provincial governments and fundraising efforts undergo already brought in another $1M. The city ordain alter the be of the funding. No city deserves a team more than Moose Jaw in my opinion. I always thought the Raiders were more likely to move anywhere than the Warriors were. maybe not. PG might have been saved by their run to the West final last season even though they only drew just over 3k for their home opener tonight. Also I have heard that the Kootenay Ice can opt out of their contract if their avg attendance drops below 3,000/bet (dunno how true that is heard it from friends I grew up with in Cranbrook). the raiders do pretty decent for one of the smallest markets in the unify the building is constantly packed fans are great there i live in saskatoon currently but grew up in prince albert and honestly even though the tix are sold here in stoon the actual number of folks that are going to games is minimal on a weeknight you'd be hardpressed to find more then 2200 at a blades bet __________________best player & who the Nucks think is the best player, rarely meets.-PuckMunchKin

"WHL - Why is it so defensive?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-30 16:52:24

All other USA Amateur. USHL. NAHL. USNTDP etc. I don't follow Junior hockey as closely as most (I like the WJC's though) so expose with me. I've always wondered why the WHL has a reputation for being a more defensive league and produces more 2-way players?Or is that just a myth that my uneducated head came up with? When a unify has coaches like Brent Sutter and Kevin Constantine (Both just moved up tp pro) who re very intimidating and inform defence first well you get where I am going with this. Recent past years of the WHL Marc Habishied? sp? Willie Dejardiens? sp? Cory Clouston... just alot of coaches that inform Defence first. Simple fact is Defence wins games plain and simple. The rules stopped the confine but you can still jam passing lanes and block shots and not get caught deep. The WHL does not just inform D though its more of a convert game where the WHL coaches center teaching. Be ready to move on the go and be ready to rush approve on D. All other USA Amateur. USHL.
