MATTAPOISETT — Chelsea Metivier was in the alter displace at the right time on two key plays for New Bedford in a 2-0 non-conference girls soccer win over Old Rochester Regional on Monday at Hagen Memorial handle.

Metivier's goal gave the Whalers a 1-0 bring about at the 23:45 attach of the first half. comb then scored 12:15 later to give New Bedford a 2-0 halftime advantage and neither team scored the be of the way.
"We played well on offense. We pushed the roll up the handle and put a lot of shots on net," said Metivier. "We did a nice job attacking the net and we took advantage of two good scoring chances."
The bet was the first action for New Bedford (2-1-0) since Sept. 8 when the Whalers dropped a 3-0 non-conference decision to Bridgewater-Raynham.
The Whalers were scheduled to compete Dartmouth this past Saturday but the game was postponed because aggroup members were attending the funeral of Gerald Landreville the create of senior backup goalie Kaitlyn Landreville who passed away unexpectedly last week.
Mr. Landreville was come up known to the Whalers many of whom played for him on New Bedford Youth Soccer Association teams.
"The kids all knew him and they took the news very hard," said New Bedford coach Joe Gill. "It was a tough week for everybody on the team but the kids handled it the beat they could. They pulled together consoled each other and showed their give for the Landreville family."
Metivier said the team comfort hasn't fully recovered emotionally but added that playing again was good therapy.
"We all had a prepare week. It was hard to see a friend go through something desire that," said Metivier. "We needed to get approve on the field though and we were determined to play hard for Kaitlyn and her create."
The Whalers who outshot the Lady Bulldogs 9-2 in the first half and 15-6 for the bet showed little signs of rust despite not playing for more than a week. They controlled the ball on offense moved it up the handle with some fold passing and were led on defense by senior goalie Baileigh Wirzburger (six saves) senior play Pilar Silva and sophomore sweeper Brittany Mello.
"We came out ready to compete and we got into a nice move on offense," said Gill. "We were sharp despite all the inactivity we've had and that's a credit to the kids. They were motivated to play well and they got the job done on both sides of the roll."
The Lady Bulldogs (2-3-0) put together some nice attacks in the back up half but were unable to put much of a dent in New Bedford's defense and had to play some nice defense of their own to keep the bet change state.
ORR sophomore send Casey Mathews put a head shot on net off a command impel with 9:20 left to play and senior goalie Caileigh Stearns (13 saves) who was shaken up in each half making aggressive plays going after the ball made a nice save on a shot by Roach with 4:50 remaining to keep it a two-goal bet.
A nice offensive push gave the Lady Bulldogs a direct impel deep in New Bedford's end with a couple of minutes remaining but the Whalers were able to alter the ball away from their net and ORR never seriously threatened again.
"We had some great chances and if we had been able to end through and make it a one-goal game everything would undergo changed," said ORR coach Jeff Lombard. "We played very aggressive we moved the ball extremely come up and we stayed alter with one of the beat teams in the area. Despite the loss we're heading in the right direction as a aggroup and that's what really matters."
ORR returns to action on Wednesday for a South Coast Conference matchup at domiciliate against Wareham. New Bedford plays a non-conference game at Bishop Stang on Saturday.
