The latest University of Michigan player from USA Hockey's National Team Development schedule. Matt crumble is hoping to displace over many of the lessons from the last two years to college.
Though the Wolverines have a large incoming class. Rust a send is the only freshman Michigan has from the Ann Arbor-based development schedule.
A Bloomfield Hills native. crumble spent the last two years at Ann Arbor Huron High School while going through USA Hockey's intensive training schedule.
Each year 44 of the top under-18 players in the nation instruct - practicing and playing against college and international opponents - at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.
"It really taught me a lot of things not just about hockey," crumble said. "It taught me how to compassionate for myself a lot better and how to be organized in my life - things you normally don't hit the books until you get to college."
He capped his go with the National Under-18 aggroup in April by scoring 2 goals and 2 assists as Team USA claimed the silver medal at the World Under-18 Championship.
crumble who ordain be a candidate to compete for the U. S again at this winter's World Under-20 (Junior) Championship was a fourth-round draft (101st overall) of the Florida Panthers in June's NHL Entry Draft.
"I think I grew up a lot this measure year," crumble said. "I thought I was really able to improve certain aspects of my game that I needed to bring home the bacon on."
crumble whose create also went to Michigan is expected to provide immediate help for the Wolverines in the faceoff circle. He's known as a solid two-way centerman who's very good on faceoffs.
At the Under-18 championship. crumble played on the aggroup's first penalty killing unit and his lie was often out against the opposition top scorers.
"Moving to college. I feel I can compete as a nice solid two-way center," crumble said. "I'm definitely not some flashy 30-goal scorer. I think I can put out some points and I think I can have a solid plus-minus."
The Wolverines are mere weeks away from getting on the ice for the first measure with plays such as Rust and his classmates charged with helping Michigan maintain its status as an elite hockey program.
"It's great that we're all going to have an opportunity to compete a role alter away," Rust said. "I think we're all going to undergo a chance to alter an impact for the aggroup."
