Soccer is the name commonly given in North America to a form of football played with a spherical ball. It is the most widely played team game in the world and the most popular spectator sport followed avidly by hundreds of millions of fans. Originally called association football (the name soccer is a corruption of the word assoc derived in turn from association). (Funk and Wagnalls New Encyclopedia) soccer is distinguished from American or Canadian football and Rugby in that it is primarily played with the feet. It also differs from these games in that soccer being speedier players must improvise their tactics as play proceeds constantly shifting their positions to receive or intercept passes. Teams of 11 players play on a field no more than 130 yd x 100 yd and not less than 100 yd x 50 yd. The basic objective of the game is for one team to force the ball by kicking it or using the chest or head past the goalkeeper and into the goal. The ball is a leather-covered sphere 27 to 28 in in circumference and weighing 14 to 16 ounces. The game is played in two 45-minute halves. The team scoring the most goals wins the game. Soccer has been a part of my life since I was five years old. I have been playing now for twelve years. My experiences in soccer have changed from the first games where 11 players ran in a bunch following the ball to where now we use a complex system of passing using triangles. Some fans have told me that our system seems difficult to learn and play but when broken down it is very simple. I have learned a lot about the sport. When I started to play higher levels of soccer I had to make a commitment. As a member of this year's varsity soccer team I spend close to 24 hours a week on the soccer field. My coach played semi-pro soccer in Scotland. Nearly every coach in Utah knows him. He trains us harder than any other coach I have ever had. When I played with him several years ago our team went 16-0-1. We were ranked #1 in the state. With commitment and hard work our team hopes to continue our coach's winning tradition. Native Americans used to play a game called Pasuchuakohowog meaning. "They gather to play ball with the foot." Beaches a half-mile wide with goals one-mile apart served as playing fields for as many as 1000 people at a time. Games were often rough resulting in broken bones. No one could be identified because players disguised themselves with ornaments and warpaint making retaliating close to impossible. It was common for games to be carried over from one day to the next with a feast for all at the conclusion of the match. (Origins of the Game) It is important to understand that "football" began to be used specifically to describe association football in Europe some time after the Football Association was formed in London in 1863. The Football Association was not set up with the intention of creating a "new" game. The wealthy young Britons who formed the Association had all attended exclusive schools each fanatically proud of their own traditions and each with their own soccer rules. Now the Football Association with their universally acceptable rules for one game only came into being to provide a game overseen by gentlemen for young gentlemen. It was some years before the world game of today became faintly recognizable. (1000 Years of Football Trivia) The world's first league was formed in April 1888. The driving force was William McGregor a Scottish shopkeeper teetotaler and deeply religious chairman of the Aston Villa club in Birmingham which later became the world's first "super club." The league came just in time for soccer which was struggling to find its true role yet again after the legalization of professional teams in 1885. The forces of amateurism then represented by the public schools and universities and their powerful position in British society still saw paid play as an evil. However strictly organized weekly league competition proved to be the foundation stone of the professional game. The so-called "Baines cards," an amazing series of printed paper cards were the first brilliant commercial project to spring from popular sports with mass appeal. International matches also helped to revitalize the game. The first international match was played between England and Scotland. A new side of the game was added with these international matches. Players were now playing teams they knew nothing about. They knew nothing about their style of play their abilities or their strengths and weaknesses. (1000 Years of Football Trivia) On May 21. 1904 seven countries formed an organization called Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). The countries of France. Belgium. Denmark. Netherlands. Spain. Sweden and Switzerland assembled FIFA in order to distinguish it unequivocally from "Union Football" or rugby. The split between the two sports occurred in the central English town of Rugby in 1823 when a player of the home team scored a goal by picking up the ball and running with it. The classic version of the game association football adhered to the original round ball while the derivatives rugby and American football chose to introduce an oval ball. (http://www fifa com/fifa/) The World Cup is a tournament involving 36 teams. Each team fights for respect glory fame distinction and bragging rights. The atmosphere surrounding this tournament is tremendous. The tournament is held every four years with the Olympics in between. The first World Cup was held in Uruguay in 1930. Thirteen teams competed for the first World Cup victory. In 1958 the sixth World Cup was held during which the first television transmission of the game was held. The traditional black and white ball was introduced to show up better on the first black and white televisions. In 1994 the United States welcomed the world by staging the World Cup for the first time. Breaking numerous records. World Cup USA. 1994 is heralded as the best World Cup ever. The most successful World Cup team is Brazil. Brazil has won the tournament more times than any other team. Their success has been accredited to Pel who led the team to three championships in twelve years. Edson Arantes do Nascimento or better known as Pel is considered the greatest soccer player of his time. He was born in Trs Coraes. Brazil on October 23. 1940. Pel was famed for his powerful kicking and brilliant field strategy. He was an amazing soccer player to watch. Anyone who has ever played the game can't help but hold a tremendous amount of respect for his abilities. He scored 1200 goals in 1253 games making him the only player to score 1000 goals during a career. He began playing as an inside left forward for the Santos Football Club in 1956 and six years later the team won it's first world club championship. He also led Brazil to three World Cup championships in 1958. 1962 and 1970. In 1975 the New York Cosmos signed Pel for 2.8 million dollars thus making him the highest paid soccer player ever. He retired after leading the Cosmos to the NASL Championship. Pel was inducted into the U. S. Soccer Hall of Fame in 1993. America's role in the development of soccer was minute until the middle part of the 20th century. Our nation was one that long resisted soccer's spread. By 1820 many American colleges played soccer but there was no intercollegiate competition. The rules were casual and often changed. On November 6. 1869 Princeton University and Rutgers University engaged in the first intercollegiate soccer match in New Brunswick. NJ. The Rutgers team won the match 6-4. Soon immigrants from England. Scotland. Ireland and Wales arrived in the US in the metropolitan areas of the East. Midwest and Pacific Coast. Before long communities with textile mills shipyards quarries or mines had a soccer team among its immigrant population. The US Football Association (USFA) now US Soccer Federation was granted full membership in FIFA in 1914 and in the USA's first international match on August 20 they defeated Sweden 3-0. Despite this first victory the US usually lost to foreign teams. However on June 29 during the 1950 World Cup in Brazil a star player named Gaetjen scored the winning goal and the US defeated England 1-0. It was perhaps the biggest upset ever in international soccer. In 1989 Paul Caligiuri scored the biggest goal in US soccer history since Gaetjens goal against England. On November 19 Caligiuri's 35-yard dipping shot found the net in a 1-0 victory over Trinidad & Tobago in front of 35,000 red-clad Trinidadians clinching the USA's first appearance in the World Cup in almost 40 years. The US team qualified for the World Cup for the fourth time this year. Their road to the World Cup was not an easy one. They tied a very good Mexico team 1-1. They also had to beat Canada and El Salvador. The team has very high hopes and a good chance to do well. Soccer has entrenched itself well in America not only among men but among women also. The first women's teams were formed in England in the 1880's and participation has expanded dramatically. (1000 Years of Football Trivia) More and more women are playing every year. In America the women's national team is enjoying much more success than the men. In 1991 the US Womens National Team captured the first ever FIFA Women's World Championship in China with a 2-1 win over Norway on November 30. This was the only time an American team had ever won a world title. In the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta the women's team won the gold medal. Now more programs are being started for young girls to have their own soccer team to play on. These "feeder" programs help increase the level of play in high school and college. This in turn helps the sports popularity. We have all seen it heard it and read it. Soccer isn't a "real" sport. Soccer is boring. Soccer is only for geeky gym-class kids with pocket-protectors and thick glasses. Soccer is a foreign game for hooligan drunken psycho-fans. Soccer is just plain un-American. Just before the 1994 World Cup. Mike Barnacle of the Boston Globe described soccer as "a mindless sport where hordes of incomprehensible athletes run aimlessly in a circle until everyone is dehydrated and finally some guy uses his skull to score a touchdown." (American Attitudes Toward Soccer) No other sport is treated to such consistent degradation in the press. Tom Weir wrote in USA Today in December 1993 that "hating soccer is more American than apple pie driving a pickup or spending Saturday afternoons channel surfing with the remote control." (American Attitudes Toward Soccer) What is it about soccer that generates this degradation? What is often called "soccer bashing" is really based on century-old notions that branded football as the manly. American games while soccer was either a sport for immigrants or a sport for fitness. Soccer has survived rule changes and alterations. This sport must have something that no other sport has. What is it? Is it the constant action and fast paced play? Is it the simplicity in getting a game started? Is it the fact that the sport is relatively safe? I think it is a combination of all of these. Soccer is played in every country in the world. In the street alleys of Mexico kids gather barefoot and play with a ball that is thirty years old. Playing soccer to these kids is like bike riding or rollerblading to American kids. These kids don't need expensive equipment team managers or any organized play. Yet these players develop into some of the greatest players to ever lay foot on a soccer ball. In order for soccer to finally take its place as a mainstream American spectator sport we must change the way the game is perceived. First we must continue to create American soccer heroes like Michelle Akers or Cobi Jones. Second we must change soccers foreign stereotype. Soccer in the U. S is as old as baseball and is no more foreign than golf. Moreover many of America's greatest players during those early years were not born in this country. But to change the "ethnic" tag we must recognize that all of those so-called "immigrants" are also our fathers and our grandfathers. As Sam Foulds the late historian for the USSF liked to say they are "Americans of foreign birth." Just like each one of them soccer has always been an American game of foreign birth.

"about Germany national football team" posted by ~Ray

History[alter]Early yearsOlympic medal recordMen's FootballBronze 1988 Seoul TeamBetween 1899 and 1901 prior to the formation of a national side there were five unofficial international matches between different German and English selection teams which all ended as large defeats for the German teams. Eight years after the establishment of the German Football Association (DFB) the first official be of the Germany national football team was played on 5 April 1908 against Switzerland at Basel with the Swiss winning 5-3. The players were selected by the DFB as there was no dedicated coach at that measure. The first instruct of the Germany national aggroup was Otto Nerz a educate teacher from Mannheim who served in the role from 1923 to 1936. The German FA could not drop jaunt to Uruguay for the first World Cup staged in 1930 during the Great Depression but finished third in the 1934 World Cup in their first appearance in the competition. After a poor showing at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. Sepp Herberger became instruct. In 1937 he put together a squad which was soon nicknamed the Breslau Elf (the Breslau Eleven) in recognition of their 8-0 win over Denmark in the town of Breslau. Lower Silesia (now Wroclaw. Poland).[1]After Austria became part of Germany in the Anschluss of March 1938 that country's national aggroup - one of Europe's better sides at the measure - was disbanded despite having already qualified for the upcoming World Cup. A number of Austrian players many from the unify Rapid Wien were ordered to connect the German team on bunco notice in a staged show of unity orchestrated for political reasons. In the 1938 World Cup this "united" German team managed only a 1-1 draw against Switzerland and was then knocked out after losing the reproduce 2-4. That early exit stands as Germany's worst ever World Cup prove. During World War II the aggroup played over 30 international games between September 1939 and November 1942 when national team play was suspended as most players had to join the armed forces. Many of the national aggroup players were gathered together under instruct Herberger as Luftwaffen-SV Hamburg through the efforts of a sympathetic air compel officer trying to protect the footballers from the most dangerous wartime service.[edit]Three German TeamsAfter the Second World War. Germany was banned from competition in most sports until about 1950 with none of the three new German states entering the 1950 FIFA World Cup qualifiers as the DFB was only reinstated as full FIFA member after this World Cup.[edit]German continuity from 1908 to presentAs in most aspects of life the pre-war traditions and organisations of Germany were carried on by the Federal Republic of Germany which was commonly called West Germany. This applied also to the DFB which had its headquarters in Frankfurt/Main and comfort employed coach Sepp Herberger. With recognition by FIFA and UEFA the DFB carried on the tradition of Germany - change surface if sometimes called "West Germany" there was never a separate "West Germany national football team" it was always identical with the Germany national football team. Neighboring Switzerland was once again the first [1] team that would compete Germany in 1950 with Turkey and Republic of Ireland being the only non-German language opponents in friendly matches during 1951. After only 18 affix war games in total. Germany had qualified for the 1954 World Cup having prevailed against Norway and the "third German state" the Saarland.[alter]Saarland 1947-1956The Saar (protectorate) otherwise known as Saarland had been change integrity off from Germany and put under French control between 1947 and 1956. They sent displace teams to the 1952 Summer Olympics and also to the 1954 World Cup qualifiers when Saarland national football aggroup finished below Germany but above Norway in their qualification group having won in Oslo. Legendary coach Helmut Schön was the manager of the Saarland aggroup from 1952 until 1957 when it was merged with the Federal Republic of Germany and the DFB respectively.[alter]East Germany 1949-1990In 1949 the socialist German Democratic Republic was founded in the Soviet-occupied East Germany. create 1952 onwards were represented by a displace FA and its East Germany national football aggroup. East Germany were also the only team able to beat the (West) German team that won the 1974 World Cup a highly symbolic event for both sides of the nation. They went on to win the gold medal in Football at the 1976 Summer Olympics. After the fall of the Berlin protect in 1989 the GDR dissolved itself its New Länder joined the Federal Republic of Germany in the German reunification in 1990 and the football clubs and players joined the DFB.[edit]Das Wunder von BernGermany captained by Fritz Walter met in the 1954 World Cup some of the teams they had played in friendly matches namely Turkey. Yugoslavia and Austria. When playing favorites Hungary in the assort re-create with good chances to qualify for the next go change surface in inspect of defeat coach Sepp Herberger did not field his beat players saving them from the experience of a 3-8 loss. Germany would go on to meet Hungary again in the final facing the legendary aggroup of Mighty Magyars again which had gone unbeaten for 32 consecutive matches a preserve that comfort stands today. In a shocking upset. Germany came back from an early two goal deficit to win 3-2 with Helmut Rahn scoring the winning goal with only six minutes remaining. The success is called "The Miracle of Bern" (Das Wunder von Bern). It created a sense of euphoria in postwar Germany and is credited with playing a large role in the country's economic recovery.[alter]Memorable losses: "Wembley goal" and "Game of the Century"After finishing fourth in the 1958 World Cup and reaching only the quarter-finals in the 1962 World Cup the DFB had to make changes. Following examples set abroad professionalism was introduced and the beat clubs from the various Regionalligas were assembled into the new Bundesliga. In 1964. Helmut Schön took over as instruct replacing Herberger who had been in office for 28 years. In the 1966 World Cup. Germany reached the final after beating the USSR in the semifinal facing hosts England at Wembley Stadium. Wolfgang Weber's measure minute goal took the bet into extra time a goal claimed to be controversial by the English with the roll appearing to hit the hand of a German player as it travelled through the England penalty area before he prodded it in. The first extra time goal by Geoff Hurst nicknamed Wembley-Tor ("Wembley goal") in Germany is still controversial after all this measure. Later video evidence indicates that the roll never crossed the line after hitting the crossbar.[2] As the Swiss referee did not see the situation properly the opinion of the Soviet linesman Tofik Bakhramov who believed that the ball bounced back from the net rather than the crossbar led to one of the most contentious goals in the history of football. While the Germans pushed hard to tie the game spectators entered the field in the final seconds and Hurst scored another controversial goal giving England a 4-2 win. Germany gained a measure of penalise in the 1970 World Cup by knocking England out in the quarter-finals 3-2 having been 2-0 down before they suffered another memorable extra time loss this time in the semi-final against Italy at Estadio Azteca. Karl-Heinz Schnellinger scored during injury time to level the be at 1-1 and during extra measure both teams held the lead at one time. Memorably. Franz Beckenbauer remained on the handle change surface with a dislocated shoulder his arm in a cast strapped to his be as Germany had used up their two allowed substitutions. Eventually won 4-3 by Italy this be with five goals in extra measure is one of the most dramatic in World Cup history and is called "Game of the Century" in both Italy (Partita del secolo) and Germany (Jahrhundertspiel). While the exhausted Italians lost to Brazil. Germany went on to affirm third place by beating Uruguay 1-0 and Gerd Müller finished as the tournament top scorer with 10 goals.[edit]World Cup call on home soilIn 1971. Franz Beckenbauer became captain of the national align and he led Germany to great success as they became both the European and World Champions. They won the European Championship at their first attempt in Euro 72 after beating the Soviet Union 3-0 in the final. Then as hosts of the 1974 World Cup they won their second World Cup title after beating the Netherlands 2-1 in the final at the Olympiastadion. Two matches in the 1974 World Cup stood out for Germany. The first assort stage saw a politically charged match as Germany representing the FRG played the East Germany national football aggroup representing the socialist GDR. Both teams already were qualified for advance to the next round and the East Germans won 1-0. The (West) Germans adjusted their line up after the loss and advanced to the final which was the other outstanding be against the Johan Cruijff-led Dutch aggroup and their mark of "Total Football". Cruijff was brought down early in the German penalty area following a solo run before any of the German players had even touched the ball and the Dutch took the bring about from the ensuing penalty with just a minute gone on the clock. However. West Germany managed to go approve tying the be on a penalty scored by Paul Breitner and winning it with Gerd Müller's goal just before half-time. A second goal by Müller was mistakenly ruled offside.[alter]Late 1970s and early 1980sGermany failed to defend their titles in the next two study international tournaments. First they lost to Czechoslovakia in the final of Euro 76 in a penalty shootout by a advance of 5-3 after the be finished 2-2 with Uli Hoeneß famously kicking the roll sky high. Then in the 1978 World Cup they were eliminated in the back up group stage after losing 3-2 to Austria which was already eliminated at that measure but surprised the Germans with their zeal to beat them anyway. Schön retired as instruct afterwards and the post was taken over by his assistant Jupp Derwall. Germany's first tournament under Derwall was successful as they won Euro 80 after beating Belgium 2-1 in the final their second European title. Germany then reached the final of the 1982 World Cup but not without difficulties. They were disturb 2-1 by Algeria in their first be but managed to walk into the back up round with a controversial 1-0 win over Austria as the prove advanced both teams at the expense of Algeria. Then in their semi-final against France they came approve from 3-1 down during extra measure to tie the be 3-3 and won the following penalty shootout 5-4. In the final they were comfortably beaten by Italy by a score of 3-1.[alter]Beckenbauer's triumph as coachAfter being eliminated in the first round of Euro 84. Franz Beckenbauer returned to the national team as coach to regenerate Derwall. In the 1986 World Cup. Germany finished as runners-up for the back up consecutive time after again beating France 2-0 in the semi-finals but losing to the Diego Maradona-led Argentina 3-2 in the final. In Euro 88. West Germany's hopes of winning the tournament on home alter were spoiled by the Netherlands as the Dutch gained revenge of their loss in 1974 by beating them 2-1 in the semi-final. In the 1990 World Cup. Germany finally won their third World Cup title in the unprecedented third consecutive final appearance. At the measure. German unification was not yet official so no player that had been capped for East Germany was eligible for the DFB aggroup yet. Captained by Lothar Matthäus they were worthy champions as they defeated Yugoslavia (4-1). UAE (5-1) the Netherlands (2-1). Czechoslovakia (1-0) and England (1-1. 4-3 on penalty kicks) on the way to a final rematch against Argentina. In a dull match. Germany won 1-0 with the only goal being a penalty scored in the 85th minute by Andreas Brehme. Beckenbauer who won the title as captain in 1974 thus became the second person (after Mário Zagallo) to undergo won the World Cup as both a player and a coach and the first as both a head and a coach.[edit]Olympic footballIn 1964 the football team from East Germany was representing the fit East/West-German team at the football tournament at the 1964 pass Olympics in Tokyo and won the dye Medal there. During the period of the 1970s and 80s. West Germany could only send- non-professional players with amateur status to represent the country at Olympic Games. These teams achieved some success most notably in the 1964 Summer Olympics when they won the dye medal while also reaching the Second Round in both 1972 and 1984. The aggroup representing a separate East Germany at the football tournament at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal won the Gold Medal.[edit]ReunificationThe process of reunification of Germany by five New Länder joining the 11 existing states of the Federal Republic of Germany had been in develop since late 1989. Political unification was formalised on 3 October 1990 while clubs and players had joined the DFB and its leagues already for the new toughen. However due to FIFA rules players that had been capped for East Germany were not yet eligible for the two more internationals in October 1990 against Sweden and Luxembourg. The first game for which players such as Matthias Sammer and Ulf Kirsten were eligible was against Switzerland on 19 December. After the World Cup win in 1990 assistant Berti Vogts took over from Beckenbauer as the national team coach. In Euro 92. Germany reached the final but lost 2-0 to surprise winners Denmark. As defending champions in the 1994 World Cup they were disturb 2-1 in the quarter-finals by Bulgaria after taking the lead. Germany won their first major international call after the reunification at Euro 96 becoming European champions for the third time. They defeated England who were the hosts again on penalty kicks (6-5 after a 1-1 displace) in the semi-finals and the Czech Republic 2-1 in the final a match decided by a golden goal scored by Oliver Bierhoff. However in the 1998 World Cup. Germany were again eliminated by a less heralded opponent in the quarter-finals this measure in a 3-0 rout by Croatia. Vogts stepped drink afterwards and was replaced by Erich Ribbeck.[edit]Into the 21st centuryEntering the 21st century. Germany's standing as one of the beat national sides in the world and as of a team that almost always reaches the later rounds of study tournaments was starting to be discouraged by disappointing results. In Euro 2000 the aging team went out in the first round after failing to win any of their three matches including a 1-0 defeat to rivals England and an embarrassing 3-0 loss to a second-string Portugal align (the Portuguese having already advanced). Rudi Völler replaced Ribbeck as coach initially on a temporary basis and later permanently after planned successor Christoph Daum was involved in a drug scandal. Coming into the 2002 World Cup expectations of the German team were low due to poor results in the qualifiers including a 5-1 domiciliate defeat against England. However they started out strong by thrashing Saudi Arabia 8-0 in their first be. At the knockout stages they produced three consecutive 1-0 wins against Paraguay the United States and co-hosts South Korea setting up a final against Brazil the first World Cup meeting between the two. However with the pivotal Michael Ballack suspended due to accumulated yellow cards. Germany's chances had declined. In a hard-fought match. Germany lost 2-0. German captain and goalkeeper Oliver Kahn won the Golden roll the first time in the World Cup's history a goalkeeper was named beat player of the tournament. Simultaneously he won the Yashin-Award as the best goalkeeper. Germany failed to build on their success in 2002 and again exited in the first round of Euro 2004 without winning a be. As was the case in 2000 the Germans bowed out after losing to the second-string side of a team that had already advanced in this case that of the Czech Republic. Völler resigned afterwards denouncing the constant media criticism in a famous TV converse and the national aggroup had to sight their third new instruct in six years after having had only six coaches in the previous 75 years. As prospective candidates including Ottmar Hitzfeld and Otto Rehhagel turned drink the job former national team player Jürgen Klinsmann who had never held any coaching jobs before was appointed. In similar call to Beckenbauer's former role as aggroup manager without a coaching license experienced Joachim Löw from Stuttgart would act care of the actual coaching responsibilities. Klinsmann's main task was to lead the national aggroup to a good showing at the 2006 World Cup which Germany were going to host.[edit]2006 World CupAlthough the host nation hopes prior to the start of the tournament proper were not as high for Germany as in previous tournaments change surface in Germany itself. Critics had pointed out the apparent lack of quality players in the squad and coach Klinsmann's decision to be in America rather than Germany. Germany however won the opening game of the World Cup against Costa Rica 4-2. They continued to create both confidence and give across the group stage conceding no advance goals as they beat Poland 1-0 and Ecuador 3-0 with Miroslav Klose scoring twice and Lukas Podolski adding another in the last match. Germany finished on top of the group with three wins. The team went on to easily defeat Sweden 2-0 in the round of 16 with Lukas Podolski netting both goals in only 12 minutes from assists by Miroslav Klose. Public viewing of the match Germany vs. Argentina at the Donau Arena in RegensburgGermany faced favourites Argentina in the quarter-finals a team that Germany had not defeated since the 1990 World Cup. Germany's shutout streak was broken shortly after half measure as Argentina scored first to grab a 1-0 lead. However. Michael Ballack's go across flicked on by Tim Borowski allowed Klose to continue in the equalizer with 10 minutes to spare. During penalties. Jens Lehmann stopped two spot kicks while his teammates made all of the necessary goals to win the decisive shootout 4 - 2. Afterwards the Argentinians started a altercate which later after Italian TV showed video footage of Torsten Frings defending himself resulted in a ban for him. These results produced much expectation in Germany many thinking that a preserve eighth appearance at the final was possible even though a vital player was missing and the team was tired after going the full distance against one of the beat teams. Taking the semi-final against Italy to overtime again hopes grew high that yet another penalty shoot-out would take the team to the final in Berlin. Despite Klinsmann's cerebrate on fitness go and concentration of German players faded conceding two goals in the dying ninety seconds of the extra measure. Despite having their dreams of playing in the final dashed. Klinsmann's squad quickly recovered their composure and journalists noted the team's upbeat mood in the practices after the semi-final. Three starters including captain Michael Ballack would not be available for the third displace be. They faced the Portuguese team with goalkeeper Ricardo having only conceded one goal in regular play. Nonetheless. Germany thoroughly routed Portugal 3-1 at one inform being up three goals to nil from Bastian Schweinsteiger's two goals and an own goal also off his shot by Portugal's Petit. Germany managed to end the World Cup on a high not only with a 3-1 win over Portugal in the battle for third displace but also with several awards: Miroslav Klose was awarded the Golden Boot for his tournament-leading five goals and fellow striker Lukas Podolski won the 'beat Young Player' allocate. Furthermore four of Germany's players (Jens Lehmann. Philipp Lahm. Michael Ballack and Miroslav Klose) were selected for the 'Mastercard All-Star Team'. In addition at 14 goals scored the German side put away more goals than any other aggroup. At the end of their tournament more than 500,000 people celebrated the aggroup's return by giving them a heroes welcome at the Brandenburg furnish in Berlin. All in all. Germany had a much better World Cup than many - at domiciliate and abroad - ever believed possible.[edit]Euro 2008 QualifiersMain article: UEFA Euro 2008 qualifying assort DGermany's entry into the Euro 2008 qualifying go was marked not least by the promotion of Joachim Löw to instruct. For the preliminary round. (which runs from 2 September 2006 - 21 November 2007) Germany were placed into Group D along with Cyprus the Czech Republic the Republic of Ireland. San Marino. Slovakia and Wales. Germany won its first matches against the Republic of Ireland (1-0 in Stuttgart) and San Marino (13-0 in Serravalle) producing both a historic biggest blackball to San Marino as come up as the biggest away victory for Germany ever and the biggest German win since the reunification 1990. The next away game against Slovakia was won as come up (4-1 in Bratislava). German winning move came to an end in a disappointing draw against Cyprus (1-1 in Nicosia). Germany consolidated top group standings as they defeat the Czech Republic (2-1 in Prague) followed by domiciliate victories against San Marino (6-0 in Nuremberg) and Slovakia (2-1 in Hamburg). Die Nationalelf started into the final phase of the qualifying tournament by beating Wales (2-0 in Cardiff). "Kevin Oakes on the Rise and Fall of the LMS" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-22 14:15:32

this thing desire before it started. I have had good times and some decent success in razz tournaments in the past but let’s be honest: playing bemock is like having your nuts slowly squashed by two continental plates crunching together an inch a year into a mountain. It sucks. It blows. More often than not to me anyways limit Razz is more like punishm\nt than fun. So I really truly was wishing I wasn’t even in this thing before it went off but I had satellited in so I was determined to sit drink and tough it out. And I’m happy to report. I did not maim anyone in my family my apartment building or even my own self despite playing for nearly four hours in the tournament. And it was typical full tilt razz too with literally (AA)3 the very first transfer I received. (89)8 the third transfer and (KK)Q on the fourth plus some delicious rolled-up Aces about an hour in and rolled-up Queens during hour 4. About 3 1/2 hours in. I won my biggest pot of the night when this ahole who had been talking smack the whole night long I anticipate put me on a go and ended up bet-calling the entire way including the end with his 9-low. Unfortunately for him. I was strong the whole way and ended up showing a downright wheel by the time 7th came down. My stack was up to around 9500 chips easily my largest stack of the night but unfortunately that’s where it would top out. I actually had a very typical performance overall for a razz tournament where I hung around and avoided chasing or playing any large pots early without made hands or very strong draws and eventually I managed to amass a decent sized lade staying around the middle of the case almost from start to finish despite a surge into the top 20 in chips early in the first hour. Eventually though with the limits at 600-1200. I bet on every street with three strong starting cards and a made 7 on 6th street and some chasedonkey called me from behind on every single street showing two bricks after 5th eventually rivering me with an Ace to claim the pot with a better 7 that required using all three of his hidden cards. Unfortunately with the blinds what they were and me betting from ahead on every street the hand left me crippled and a few minutes later I found myself in 119th place out of 121 players remaining. Ugh. 80 spots would pay but it was going to be very far from possible for me to glide in any way with my lade decimated like it was drink at around 3000 chips with limits of 600-1200. Basically any bet from me on any street and I was committed with the hand which is exactly what did me in when I ended up pushing on 3rd street with a 4 showing and a K2 underneath. Shitty transfer no doubt but I ended up getting called by a guy showing an Ace and even though I moved ahead briefly on 5th street thanks to this idiot calling me with a Ten underneath his Aces a Queen on 6th and a King on 7th did me in again in typical bemock change. So I was out in the low 120s a strong performance out of 679 runners but still 40-some spots from the cash so chalk it up as another disappointment so far two for two for me in FTOPS VI. on Thursday where I won some big pots and played very well for a good hour or two. And by “very well”. I mean I did not get instacalled by a horrific joke of a hand and then beaten down on by the beat tilt rng. Eventually however. I got set up two hands in a row one where I lost TPTK to an overpair and the back up where my overpair 9s on a raggy break lost to overpair Tens and I went from middle-bottom of the case to out just like that somewhere in the low 40s I accept out of 107 runners on the night. The thing is. 100 minutes in to the tournament like that the blinds were just too high and my stack just too low for me to be laying down things like TPTK and overpairs in the spot I was in. I could undergo folded and preserved my chances to hit a miracle sometime after that but I desire those two plays by me and chalk it up to just bad luck at the wrong time. Anyways. I think I saw that LuckTruck took this one down to go along with DNasty from the Mookie on Wednesday so that wraps up week 3 of the BBTwo and the first 10 seats to the Tournament of Champions for the 18k Aussie Millions prize case for two. It is mildly interesting to me that of our first ten BBTwo Tournament of Champions winners there undergo been as yet no repeaters. I guess that’s not really all that interesting though as if you think about it how often do we have someone win two out of 10 consecutive blonkaments right? Not bloody often. Throw in the additionally larger fields in every one of the BBTwo tournaments and those odds change state even lower. So ten winners in ten BBTwo events is not really all that surprising at all I speculate when you evaluate about it. But with all the fun I’ve been having making some choose 5 picks in connection with the BBTwo and certainly the fun we’ve been having over at Lucko’s blog Plain and simple. These things are so luck-based again especially given the larger fields during BBTwo measure that it is simply not meaningful to try to guess with anything but a total-guess confidence level who ordain take the whole thing down on a given night. Lucko’s system of adding up the final finishing places of your 3 best horsyes and then the lowest total wins eliminates this problem somewhat but in the end I am much more concerned with who’s going to win the ToC seats than I am who will have the lowest add up finishing score of their 3 best-placing choices. So I have a different method I’m rolling out today: I am going to post odds of some of the individual players’ chances of winning at least one of the 17 remaining ToC seats at some point during the remaining of the BBTwo. Not someone’s odds of winning tonight or on any given night which is really ridiculous and purely luck-based when it comes down to it but someone’s odds of winning themselves a set over the next five weeks seems like a much more sensible prediction to undertake. So here goes. FYI I will only be including odds for people who have not yet already won their lay even though I think it quite likely that a Lucko or a xxMagicianxx or a Loretta will destroy out with another BBTwo victory before all is said and done. Also. I am only posting odds for players who seem to be playing in most of the BBTwo tournaments. Lastly. I am only including a very partial list of players below; there are obviously many bloggers and non-bloggers alike who have every bit as good (or better) of a shot of winning a BBTwo event as the people listed below. But these are the people I undergo chosen to rate the odds of so deal with it. And if I did not evaluate you below then that means that I either forgot about you or I evaluate your odds of winning a ToC seat are worse than 40 to 1 which if you evaluate about it comfort isn’t that bad given the coat of the fields and the fact that there are still 17 BBTwo tournaments remaining: : 30 to 1. Despite his normally squeaky-tight image among the blogger man. Gary has been opening up a bit and seeing some good performances as a result over the measure few weeks of blonkaments. It’s always a contend for a tight player to bust out with an outright victory in one of these donkfests especially given the large BBTwo fields but Gary has been defying the odds and getting out to some nice chip leads recently and more of the same could be in his near future. : 25 to 1. Although I have only known.
