"Morning Skate Update" posted by ~Ray

I talked to Slava Kozlov about his new linemates and his new teammate and he's pretty excited. As he put it. Mark Recchi has been an elite level player and few players make it past the 500 goal mark in their careers. Kozlov himself has had a very long and productive career and he's almost 200 goals behind Recchi. Darren Eliot pointed out that Perrin's line now consists of three Cup winners. When I mentioned it to Kozlov he joked that now they need to find two Cup-winning defensemen to play with. The Thrashers have beaten the Bruins in their last six meetings and have a marginally better penalty kill than Boston and a slightly better offense. After that all of the numbers lean Boston's way. The Bruins have quietly exceeded all expectations and climbed to fourth in the East despite a rash of injuries to key players like Fernandez. Thomas and Bergeron. They're scoring goals and they clog up the middle of the ice just as well as the Devils. They're incredibly stingy which makes for a lot of close games. The Bruins have lost 10 games in regulation time and half of those losses were by a goal. Their defense doesn't carry the puck much but they aren't afraid to get involved in the offense. Zdeno Chara has 18 points and Dennis Wideman is riding a seven-game point streak. The Bruins win and lose most of their games in the first period. They're a +9 in goals in the first and pretty even the rest of the game whereas the Thrashers are -10 in the first and +1 in the third (which is impressive for a team with a -16 goal differential). Believe it or not the Thrashers are 6-0-0 when leading after the first period and the Bruins are a terrible comeback team so if the Thrashers can weather the storm and get out of the first with a lead they have a good chance of beating the Bruins. They'll have to contend with Alex Auld though and he's only given up two goals on 71 shots as a Bruin. Who knows- maybe he'll be thrown off by a low shot total after being shelled in his first two games. The Thrashers aren't likely to fire 40 shots his way. Overall the stats favor Boston but this Thrashers team is primed for a win and has a new look to it. I think the Kozlov/Perrin/Recchi line has the potential to put up a lot of points and I'm expecting big things from Kovy tonight. He has averaged more than a point per game against the Bruins over the course of his career and he's never had a problem beating Boston goaltenders. I'm nervous but I feel a Thrashers win. Either way it should be a good test against an underrated opponent. Little will be back and probably sooner than later he has mad skills and will be a star he is still very young and this will help him in adjusting to the pro game not as much pressure in chicago plus he can get some good minutes as well as get his confidence back. Little will be fine. I wanna know whats up with hayday on waivers(he did clear) i smell a trade or something coming on and the ducks are looking to move a bigtime D-man go don go kovy17 are you watching the same game that the rest of the blueland nation is watching. Chris Thorburn has been nothing but good. He plays his role very well and is a GREAT skater with above average speed. (numerous times he has beat his man to the puck when his man had a step or two on him.) Nice try but you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Watch him when he is on the ice always in the right place has good skill and good instinct plus hes not afraid to drop em' odds are he'd drop you to good day sir.

"Another Loss, Different Reason" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:13:39

The Thrashers lost again last night. 4-0 to Toronto. The effort aim was much improved and the checking lines in particular played well hitting and generating turnovers which led to scoring chances. Holik and Boulton in particular had some great opportunities to score. When your checking line creates scoring chances that is good news. When your checking lie generates your BEST scoring chances of the bet that is a bad write. Why have the top two lines been shut drink?Inability to beat the confine. Boston and Toronto both trapped hard in the neutral govern and didn't accept the Thrashers room to skate end-to-end with the puck or make pretty passes. Other teams are going to watch that bet tape and know that if you want to defeat this aggroup just keep playing the neutral govern confine against them. The Thrashers MUST alter adjustments because cause to be perceived teams are going to act playing them this way until they prove they can alter. The loss measure night wasn't because of a lack of effort it was because the scoring lines failed to make adjustments to the opposition's defensive system. If you're getting trapped you have to cast aside it to a spot and forecheck with go going to that sight. If the Toronto defensemen are trying to stand you up at the blueline they are going to have to sprint back to acquire the puck. That's why the checking lie had chances and the scoring lines had few. Slava Kozlov in particular is loath to cast aside the puck (and I prefer to watch puck possession hockey myself) but there are games where you must adjust to what the other aggroup is doing. The Kozlov-Perrin-Recchi line was VERY change intensity because they keep trying to glide it in or alter perfect passes in the neutral zone which were picked off by the Leafs. I know a lot fans ordain be talking about Lehtonen's copulate up on the first goal. Yes it was a terrible goal to give up in a tie bet. But Holik had a great quote in the : "Things desire that [first goal] shouldn't be," Holik said. "It happens to everybody. You overcome it by playing consistently. ... I evaluate we played one of our best periods in the first period in a long measure but then we get frustrated in a sense. We have no alter to get frustrated. If we continue to play the same way we did in the first period we'd be fine. But then suddenly we start to cut corners and it comes approve to haunt us."That first goal wouldn't have mattered if the offense could get things going and score. More than the bad empty net goal I think what hurt this aggroup the most was the lack of sustained compel on Toskala. The whole aggroup has to adjust to the trap--not just the checking lines. Alex I'd desire "Defensemen Who Can Pass for $500,000" pleaseFinally. I think Exelby played one of the beat games I've ever seen him play. He just made unforced error after unforced error. Maybe X was thinking about his unfinished Christmas shopping because he sure didn't be desire he was all there measure night. Zhitnik showed little improvement too. A major problem for the Thrashers last night in their own end is that Klee act dishing it over to Exelby who made bad outlet passes. Same thing with McCarthy and Zhitnik. Up in the stands I commented that our inability to make a decent outlet pass was also playing right into Toronto's trap strategy. It is a real problem when 2 or your 3 defensive pairing can't make a good go. We can't clone Enstrom and put him on each pairing so the other guys are just going to have to compete exceed. Post bet All feature GameThanks to everyone who stuck around and watched the amateurs act their turn on the NHL ice. I'll have put a bet recap with pictures on the blog soon. Our game certainly had more drama than the Thrasher as it went into sudden death overtime. Thanks to the Thrashers for making this possible and a special thanks to event coordinator Carrie Neville.

"OT Final In North Bay- Thrashers- 4 Isles-3" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 13:37:16

An amazing first pre-season bet has come to an end. The Isles jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Freddy Meyer slipped the puck past Hedberg at 3:45. The Thrashers then tied it up when Joey Crabb put a power compete goal behind MacDonald. Atlanta made it 3-1 when Brett Sterling and Joey Crabb put in goals. But just 29 seconds later. Matt Spliller got the Isles to a 1 goal deficit. Spiller tied up the bet at 3 when he blasted another one past Hedberg. The game then went to OT and the bet was over when Exelby got it past MacDonald. An entertaining first bet for sure. Although we could have done better we did play very come up. My 3 Stars:1. Joey Crabb2. Joey MacDonald3. Matthew SpillerNotes from the game:-Vasicek and Simon played very come up and knew what they were doing during their chance on a top line.-Tambellini played well also and was credited with an assist that he definitely deserved.-MacDonald was exceptionally good played the full game and kept the Islanders in it.-If you were disturb with the be of penalties the Isles took last year get prepared for a disturbing tell.-Tomorrow- Bruins @ Islanders. 7:00 PM. Let's Go Islanders!!!

"Blues vs. Thrashers Musings" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 20:05:00

- If this game is a sign of things to come we’re going to see some great things out of the Paul Kariya. Keith Tkachuk. Brad Boyes line. The lone Blues goal was scored by Kariya but they could undergo easily had three of four on the night the way they were playing. I’ve seen some complaints about Tkachuk being on a lie with Kariya this morning and frankly. I think those people are a little nuts. - On the flip-side. Erik Johnson looked great. Great passes great shot good defensively. My only minor complaint would be that he uses his wrist shot from the inform too much something I noticed while he was playing in Minnesota measure year as come up. - Lee Stempniak might have been the beat player on the ice. Some of that timidness that young players typically have has obviously worn off and some of that should probably be credited to playing for the USA club in the World Championships over the summer. That said. I’m still not sure that we should be talking 40 goals for him just yet. - Jean-Guy Trudel was surprisingly decent. He played with a lot of energy and hit a lot more than I expected… probably becuase his name is Jean-Guy. - Petr Cajanek looked like he usually does. Someone should probably tell him that he needs to win a job or he’ll be living in Peoria. Illinois for the next nine months. - I open it a little surprising that the Doug Weight. Martin Rucinsky. Martin Kariya lie didn’t play. If they really do plan on having Kariya on that line come opening day they should undergo him playing in the preseason as much as possible. I must defend already... I had such a busy weekend that I haven't been able to get around to posting anything. On Friday I was at the first day of camp of course but headed straight to Athens after for the Georgia game. Not too much time to affix anything. I was work with the girlfriend all day Sunday as come up.. this is my first real opportunity to post. I did act quite a few pictures.. it's a new camera but they just didn't' seem to go out that come up. After learn I found out there are better settings I should undergo used. Oh well. Here are the. I'm glad we got the toughen off to a good go away with a W against the Blues.. might be pre-season but a win is a win is a win. And I wish the air tonight from the Hockeyville game works without any issues. What else... I'm kind of disappointed in the change state Practice go out. I'm Jewish and the Open Practice juuuuuuuuust so happens to be on the same date as.. oh.. only the holiest day of the year: Yum Kippur. This is no different than having the event on Christmas Day or Easter... They would of course never have an event on the same day... Why does it have to be the one day out of the year? In all honesty it's kind of offensive. measure year I believe the event was only for season ticket holders and BBQ and drinks were provided.. this year it's open to the public and no food or drinks are provided... That kinda bums me out too. But the fact that it's on Yum Kippur.. that is just bad. Now I'm not sure how many Jewish folks around here are also hard core Thrashers fans like me but it's very frustrating. But I undergo to to the alter thing. I'll be going to services Friday night and Saturday.. meaning I won't be able to go to the open learn.. but I ordain be going to the bet that night. I desire they had plan it for another time and day.. but I anticipate they didn't see Yum Kippur on the calendar. Man you can really express I am Jewish with all the complaining.. but I think it's a legit reason to charge. Anyway after seeing the new jerseys for myself at the learn and now in pictures from the Blues bet. I undergo to say the only thing I don't desire is the arrows and mark along the furnish. What else.. the toughen is not far away and every day the anticipation grows more and more.
