"Q&A: Avery's script perfect" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-12-19 20:11:00

I may undergo to put in a label to Sean Avery’s populate this weekend to see if I can get a cut of his contract since I be to be his fantasy pimp. It’s not that I think he’s an incredible hockey player or change surface that I evaluate he’s going to put up anything near a point-per-game pace for poolies… but if you’re in a standard league with PIM/ SOG he’s about to change state the most valuable free agent pick-up in your unify. He has been and still is a free agent in a lot of conceive of leagues and that has caused him to be a regular topic of conservation in the blog all toughen. He’s got a big communicate yes. But the good news for fantasy owners is that he backs up his yapping with his fists and his bodychecks meaning plenty of trips to the sin bin. Since he can hold his own when it comes to creating havoc on the ice to make room for his linemates he’s become a regular top six forward for his New York Rangers. Plus – and here’s where it gets juicy – the Rangers are primed to go on a great run. Avery who will be back in the line-up very soon could not possibly be getting healthy at a exceed time for his fantasy fate. For whatever reason he seems to be a key part of the on-ice chemistry of this club. Now that the Rangers are just starting to turn the corner to win games and put the puck in the net. Avery is going to go the process along and also reap the rewards of it. He’ll likely line up with Drury and Shanny on L2 but he’ll also get shifts with Jagr and Gomez on the first unit. Keep in mind that late measure toughen he got dealt from L. A to New York (it was the Cuthbert heard ‘round the world) and he recorded 8G. 12A. 58 PIM and 89 SOG in only 20GP. He was having a similarly great season with the Kings after being given a chance to be in a scoring role. In PIM leagues we'd all love to have a goon active for a beat toughen but we generally can't drop it because of the drop in offensive production. Avery affords you the luxury with his points/ PIM/ SOG combo. I can’t express you if he’ll contribute immediately coming off a separated left bring up because fantasy production following an injury is often a mixed bag. What I can tell you though is that this is a ameliorate situation for him to be coming approve to with the Rangers alter now. It couldn’t be any better if we scripted it ourselves. Avery was given a lot of credit by the aggroup when he got hurt as being a key move of the roster. His absence actually caused the lines to be juggled differently than Tom Renney had wanted to run with to open the toughen because of it. GETTING HEALTHYN/A“Hi Chris. I undergo EJ. Demitra and Avery all slated to go off the IR. Who should I act/drop? 10 team H2H standard non-keeper league with PIM. My team is:C: Jokinen. Getzlaf LW: Ovechkin. ZetterbergRW: Pomminville. BoyesF: Stillman. Gomez. RadulovD: T. Kaberle. Boucher. Rosival. Poti. R. Jones” ChrisI would cut Jones to make room for Avery for sure. Radulov can probably go fit in Demitra. I’d leave EJ on the IR for as desire as possible. I comfort evaluate he can be valuable this year but right now I’d want your current starting four over him. TEAM EVAL“Hey Chris,Vic Mackey in LA“Yahoo! public Rotisserie. 12 team standard with PIM & SOG. C: Gomez. GetzlafLW: Ovechkin. StillmanRW: Alfredsson. Jason Williams (C/RW). RadulovD: Gonchar. Bouwmeester. Beauchemin. Cory Murphy. Zhitnik. Weber (IR) G: Miller. Lundqvist. VokounIR: Avery FA: Mike Richards. Connolly the Koivus. PMB. Boyes. Riveiro. Torres. MA Bergeron. Poti In 10th as skater stats are horrid but I'm behind in GP so it may not be as bad as it seems. I'd like to sit Gomez but with my current roster that would convey moving Williams to C and activating Radulov which isn't as tempting as adding Connolly or Richards. But that would convey dropping a D. I'd love to trade 2 for 1 to remove up space but I don't evaluate there's much of a market for Bouwmeester. Beauchemin. Murphy. Zhitnik or Weber right now because of their situations. With Avery returning shortly that will be another player I'd have to drop but I don't have a problem at LW. So I'm trying to figure out what to do here and turning to the sage for advice.” ChrisThe immediate question of Avery’s slot would convey dropping Zhitnik. That’s easy. You’ll have to play Avery over Stillman when Avery’s up to speed because of the PIM factor. Stillman can be kept for insurance. I speculate. I’d cut Beauchemin when Weber comes back since Schneider is back now although Beauchemin is not totally useless because he’ll comfort get a lot of ice time overall and good PP measure too. I could see cutting Radulov to make dwell for a hot Richards until Gomez gets going but I guess that time is right about now. I grabbed Avery a while back and I evaluate I will need his PIMs over the long run. I've been lucky thus far in PIMs w/ Lecavalier's recent antics.. they cannot measure (and they exceed not). I undergo my aggroup very well balanced to fill as many spots as possible each night. Avery is at LW... here's what I've got at that position:Kovalchuk. Nash. Kariya. Stillman & Naslund (who is my only dual lay guy) We undergo 2C,2LW,2RW,1F and 1UTIL each night.... Other guys are:C- Lecavalier. OlliJokinen. GomezRW - Recchi. Lupul & Havlat (taking up my other IR spot... Lupul goes when he's back) Who the heck am I gonna let go???Generally I give you my own thoughts and just ask for your opinion but in this case I really dont know if I can displace any of these guys for Avery.... thus the dilema....” ChrisChris here you pretty much have to let Naslund go to make room for Avery. You’re already solid at LW and I get the multiple-position acquire to Naslund but that’s the cut I’d alter. LIMITED MOVESJubert In Memphis“12 team keeper unify (keep 5) Start 10F 4D (G A PIM +/- PPP SOG). Max transactionsset at 30. Would you cut Erat for Miro Satan?” ChrisNope. I would not. Although you’re not severely limited in moves you should still try to save most of them for either injuries or players in bad situations. Nashville has struggled but Erat is likely going to be at least as valuable as Satan this season in the long run. I’d stand pat. be TO DECIDEHank in Cologne“Hi Chris. I`m not quite sure about who is best in a standard league with all common categories plus PIM but without SOG. I got Higgins but wondering if T. Ruutu or Vermette would be better. What I desire about Higgins are his SHP but Ruutu is with a pretty hot line. Vermette`s+/- is great. What do you evaluate? Thanks as always” ChrisHiggins is generally on a good line for the Habs too but I evaluate I’d save Ruutu because of the PIM calculate along with Toews and Kane… at least for now. Dropped Hejduk to pick up Cole as per your advice. We'll see how it pans out. In the mean time all hell has broken loose in the FA department. My team: C: Getzlaf. LecavalierLW: Zetterberg. TanguayRW/LW: Holmstrom. Eric ColeD: Markov. RafalskiG: Lundqvist. LaBarbera FA's available: H. Sedin (C). Marleau (C). Gomez (C). Elias (C/LW). D. Roy (C). Sykora (C/RW). Michalek (LW/RW). Hejduk (RW). Afinogenov (RW). Souray (D). Bieksa (D). Would you pick of these up? I'd say Holmstrom and Cole are my weakest links on O but I could see upgrading Getzlaf or Markov too. ChrisRyan as much as I don’t think Holmstrom’s streak will measure (he’s been a little cold for a few games but the line has stayed hot) you may want to ride it out for the short term. Afinogenov is the RW I’d most want to take his displace. There are options equal to Getzlaf at centre but not necessarily better if it’s a standard league. act an eye on Sedin and Gomez especially but Getzlaf is a stud in the making and his stats this year are pretty good already. desire TERM OPTIONTom in Texas“I'm in a non-keeper league where we get one add/displace per week so the early weeks are crucial for rounding out a team. With all skaters getting 3 points per goal and 2 per assist who is the beat long-term option to add from Guerin. Comrie. Parise. Toews? I would undergo to give up Elias or Straka.” ChrisTom the safest option here might be Parise in Jersey. I’m pretty tempted by Toews though. I’ve got to tell you. It’s obviously pretty early but it’s hard not to get taken in by how stunning he is offensively. PLENTY OF CENTRESWayne in Calgary“Hey Chris. Was thinking to take favor of my eat at center (and Gomez who is comfort a FA) to upgrade my goalies a little. 11 team points only unify counting goalie wins and shutouts only. My roster is: C: Briere. Cammalleri(LW). Marleau (BN)LW: Kovalchuk. SmythRW: JuWilliams. PerryD: Zubov. Bouw. Salo. CorvoG: Fleury. Huet. Tosk He has Price already in goal to go with Biron and Brodeur. I was thinking of offering Cammy (while he's hot) and Huet (so he has the Mtl duo) for Biron. Is that fair or should I go for Brodeur while his have is low? I'm a little leery of Brodeur as it seems the Devils are weaker than usual in front of him this year. Not to have in mind that he looked really human in the playoffs last year already. If the change went through. I would then mouth up Gomez. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks as always.” ChrisWayne. I evaluate you’d be giving up too much to get Biron. Huet could equal his stats depending on the Price factor. You’re strong enough on LW that I could see dealing Cammy for Biron alone though. I’d prefer Gomez over Marleau for you now anyway. I think. CHEECHOO OPTIONSjeremy from Philadelphia“you seem to be all over chechoo and with good cerebrate watching the guy the last two years. right now i have a couple options trade fasten richards for gomez and with chechoo shanahan gionta or elias out there i could drop either semin or hejduk to pick any of those players up my league is head to continue with PIM and 10 teams. ChrisHmm. I’m not totally sure what you convey by all over him… good or bad? I evaluate I’ve been pretty fair overall. He’s got to shoot and he needs more ice time to do it. First things first though… I would drop Hejduk to add Shanny immediately. Richards is actually having a pretty good rebound season on the whole so there’s no point dealing him for Gomez. Gomez will pick it up fairly quickly here but unless you’re getting him at a discount I don’t see much point in dealing for him.

I'm really enjoying covering the youth games. It's going to be quite interesting seeing players develop if I stay here long enough to watch them all the way through. And of course presuming they go the distance. But take for example Medicine Hat's first round draft pick Tyler Bunz. The young 15 year old starting goaltender's recently been thrust into the position of being the go-to guy for the St. Albert Raiders due to circumstances surrounding their backup netminder. And he's handling the load very well. He's already learned how to shake off a bad goal and move on. He's got good lateral movement can skate on his knees decent puck handler and follows the plays very well. It impresses me anytime a young goaltender can read an attempted centering pass and get his stick in the way. Colton Mayer of the Bantam league reminds me in ways of Ales Hemsky. He doesn't have the jets consistently but when he turns them on and wants to embarass the defensive corps he can do so. And the Junior B games are no slouches either some of them though most of them know their NHL sailboat's come and gone. It's a lot of fun seeing where these kids are coming from following their dreams and yes dreaming with them.

"Passing the prayers on?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-04-08 04:02:52

I thought tonight would be one of those nights… you experience do the laundry tidy the house and get create from raw material for the pass. I knew Dave and Jasmina would be getting ready to leave next week to return to Toronto with Sébastien to get ready for the next go of Sébastien’s jaunt. I wanted them to go over again before they left since I wasn’t sure when we’d see them again. I checked my phone and saw that Dave had tried to label. I called back. After spending the whole day in the hospital. Dave. Jasmina and especially Sébastien were exhausted. Sébastien had a sore belly and a headache Jasmina explained. “Sébastien do you have a headache?” she asked. “Yep” Sébastien answered. Dave explained that they had been offered tickets to the Manitoba Moose game for tonight. Drew MacIntyre the goalie from the Moose had graciously bought tickets for kids from Children’s Hospital here in Winnipeg and that after the game we would get a chance to cater him. Of cover we’ll go I said and so we stopped by and picked up the information and gave our hugs and away we went. Riley and I grabbed a few things and raced to the MTS displace just in measure to see the first puck displace. A goal here and a goal there and all of a sudden the bet was over and the Moose had won the game. Both 4 year old boys could barely hold their little Moose flags up in the air. Both dragged their flags up to the Guest Services booth where we were met by Kelly McArthur. Kelly is the Director of Community Partnerships & Manitoba Moose Yearling Foundation. She explained that move of Drew’s desire was to get the kids to the games but also meet the kids that he was inviting. She told our boys just how lucky they were to be going past the doors we were going through. “Not too many populate get to go approve here boys” she said. Along our journey to the locker dwell. Kelly and I discussed Sébastien and how I had ended up representing the family at tonight’s game. We stood on a platform in lie of two big doors with a Manitoba Moose decal. A few moments later a player walked out. It was Drew. He was still glowing from winning the bet. I explained the victorious journey Sébastien had made so far and where his next steps would take him and his family. My son presented him with one of the wish for Sébastien T-Shirts. Jasmina had wanted so much that we offer him this gift to thank him for the wonderful gift he was making not only to Sébastien but for all future kids from the Children’s Hospital. He thanked us for the t-shirt. Then to all our surprise he took my son’s hand and his friend’s transfer and walked them into the Moose locker dwell. My girlfriend and I could only look at each other as we waited for our boys to come back out with grins from ear to ear. Out came the boys with a poster. After a apprise sign on both the posters and the flags we thanked him and shook hands. He briefly looked approve at his T-shirt with Sébastien’s conceive of on the front. “express them I’ll commune for them.” He said. Here I was holding my son by the hand standing in lie of a man who had just played an amazing hockey bet who was taking the time to meet with us. Tears filled the corner of my eyes. I wish Sébastien could have been there. I could feel Jasmina with me and I could conclude her say the words that came out of my mouth…. “convey you. I’ll pass that on.” Away he went. As we turned to go. Riley spotted the two Zambonies parked about 50 feet away from us. Being a Zamboni fanatic he begged me to go closer. Kelly advised that this would be OK but we needed to stand back since the operators were not near the machines. Then out of the sidelines came one of the operators. After a apprise introduction he offered to approve up the Zamboni for us to act pictures. Back it came and then the kids got to sit on it. “Hey moms can I take them out for a ride?” asked the operator. With two sets of pleading eyes there was not way we could say no. Off they went each their turns for a spin around the ice rink on a Zamboni honking the horn and dumping the snow upon returning the monstrous machine to its parking spot. As I took a short video with my camera tears streamed down my checks. In the span of a minute. I saw a million images radiate before me; how did I get here right now… I saw Sébastien in intensive care clinging to life over a year ago as we sang lullabies through the night having a Thai dinner in Sébastien’s hospital dwell at Children’s the call I got from Dave the day they got the call for the life saving transplant the day Riley stepped on a jumbo jet for the first time to fly to Toronto to see his friend Sébastien for the first measure after the transplant the friendship made with Jasmina and Dave and a friend my son made to Sébastien who he still thinks is an angel and here I was tonight. As I drove home it was nearly 11 p m. As we stopped at a red lighten. I look in my rear view reflect. Riley mumbles. “That man Drew was sooooo nice. Maman.” then says. “We’ll have to give hugs to Sébastien…”. His little head slowly rolls to one side and he’s fast asleep. How can I thank everyone for making my son so happy? My object wanders to the bunco phrase Drew said when we parted. “express them. I’ll pray for them. “Dear God”. I whispered as I started driving. “tonight. I pray for everyone who made us so happy and that one day I can pay the gift.”

"The Things We Lost In The Fire. PENS LOSE" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-18 00:14:19

We use this way of thinking far too much:But it cannot be said enough -- Games like these feature drink your soul. It is part of the grind but that does not make it any less annoying. The last few games in Long Island can be compared to getting teabagged by Shaq. But hey man. This is the life we live. Can't take the heat? Kill yourself................................................ We couldn't catch the first period and if we could give the blogger password to everyone we would. So a wizard of photoshop. Canaan stepped in and helped us out. .......................................... What do these pictures have in common? They both will be dead before you know it. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! The Pens went into the second period remembering what happened in Colorado.2-goal lead. Time to preserve it. Out of nowhere. JFK gets a shot off. Looks like it went in. Confusion ensues. Roberts put his hands up therefore you know it's a goal. The play continues for a few minutes and then the whistle finally blows. The refs call the Warren Commission in Toronto. After some jobbing the fasten heard 'round the world was fired. Some homo lifted Crosby's stick up near DiPietro. Crosby's stick finds its way up into DiPietro's mask. DiPietro pulls his best Clint Malarchuk and skates around aimlessly. He goes directly to the locker room. What happened next was interesting. The refs had originally called it goalie interference but one of the refs realized it was a high stick so they summoned DiPietro from the locker room. It took DiPietro a back up or two to go out since he was probably giving himself a papercut and wiping the blood near his eye. Guess players can go to the locker room now before being checked for blood. communicate. Sid goes to the box for 4 minutes. It was here among 4,000 screaming Nassau Coliseum fanatics that the Pittsburgh Penguins discovered who they were. They challenged the power-play unit at the color line. measure and again the play broke down in the neutral zone. New York was being smothered by of all things defense. It was a beautiful harmony of movement. It was the dance of champions. Gonchar may have blocked a shot with his genitalia. That looked like it was a brutal shot-block. In the waning moments of the PK the Islanders get a golden come about in the schedule. Unfortunately for NYI it was Brendan Witt. MAF makes the easiest deliver of his career. Following that penalty. Crosby started getting booed every measure he touched the puck. And he had to keep his head up for the rest of the game. Big third period on the way. Ryan Whitney jumped into the broadcast booth for the second half of the period and it was pretty cool. You could hear his immediate reaction to things without worrying about a journalist's code of care. Dan Potash brought us the David Volek goal from 1993. Always tough to see. Early in the third there was an egregious interference penalty that would undergo given the Pens a power play. But no dice. It truly is Al Arbour night because the we have gone back to 1975 officiating. Good times. Every time you go to Long Island it always feels like the Islanders can crush you even if they're awful that season. That feeling was palpable as Miro Satan stared Fleury drink with the puck. And yet again it's a tied game as we head down the stretch. Then it starts getting serious. Malkin falls/dives/whatevers and knocks some Islander down. Biggest PK of the year coming. MAF doing what he has to do. The Pens kill it. Everything goes back and forth. We just be a inform. Listening to the radio. Mike Lange express us to watch out for Satan. He is nuts. Roughly one minute later... Oh. No. A MAF rebound. The measure two games have been gut-wrenching. I think I aged 10 years over this last bet at least. I dislike losing to NYI and I hate that the officiating last night was too often CRAP. That was no "interference" from Malone. And having to analyse the Kennedy goal.. why? The 4-minute penalty to Sid AFTER DiPietro went to the locker room.. what? And as has been noted often on this blog someone gratify.. alter Fleury forbid playing the puck. He's no good at it and we all move every time he tries. Last night's attempts were anguish. Sitting at the ice aim last night watching how good Malkin and Crosby and Staal and Gonchar and Sydor and Malone are. I can imagine how hard it must be for a penguins fan to watch that team lose. They are so talented you have to wonder how any team can lade up against them. It has to suck watching them blow 2 goal leads on a nightly basis. It's amazing that they're only.500. That said they lost to a aggroup that plays not with superstars but with a system. Since the pens tried Bowman already maybe they could pick up Arbour for the rest of the toughen? Maybe they could use a system that's a little more diverse than "Sid the Kid" and his Scottie Pippens and Horace Grants. fleury29 - putrescent gunge? hats off to you sir for the best description of how we all probably feel after last night's game there's no i can top that so i'm moving on..... for you unfortunate souls who didn't get the fsn pgh feed measure night the funniest part of the broadcast was when dipietro went drink immediately steigy errey and whitney all were desire "bitch please! he's diving!" almost in unison then when he came approve out to the ice they were joking (sort of) saying that dipietro had gone back to the locker room to cut himself with a razorblade so sid would get the full 4 minutes haha i think whitney's got a second go waiting for him when he retires from the ice. Maybe this is just a little of the bad taste from last night's loss talking.. or maybe this is just the beer and the bring up Daniels talking as well... But did Arbourfest last night just be awfully "Pittsburgh Pirates-ish" to anyone else? I didn't think of it until they announced late in the third that if Arbour won it would've given him 740 wins as the Isles instruct so they'd take down his 739-win banner and replace it with one that said "740". We had some friends over last night to watch the game and as soon as I heard that that's what I thought..."this is something the Pirates would do." Imagine the Pirates bringing Chuck Tanner approve for just one bet. Why stop there? Why not bring out Danny Murtaugh's casket? Maybe the next time we play the Islanders we can put a lifesize cutout of bedevil Bob on the bench just to dick with them. be. I think it's a nice gesture to recognize the guy and all that. But it just seemed a little too over-the-top for a guy whose heyday was almost 25 f'ing years ago. Let's face it.. back when Al Arbour was king of NHL coaches. Ronald Reagan was in his first term it was OK to like Michael Jackson and the world was just being introduced to telecommunicate television. I thought the only people who clung more to the late seventies and early eighties were Steelers fans and Pitt football fans but even they were probably watching that last night and saying "Damn!" in embarrassment. And this even on a day where Pitt was honoring the 1982 aggroup. In all seriousness we jam the Steelers but could anyone imagine the reaction of Stiller Nation if they brought Chuck Noll approve for one game to get some sort of token victory or coaching milestone? Maybe I'm in the minority here but I think most of Stiller Nation - despite half of them still being stuck in 1979 - would think it was a communicate. Want to recognize the guy? Cool. Fine. Have at it. I just think they went to such lengths to inform everyone about it the whole thing seemed a little.

"10/27/07: Hurricanes 8, Islanders 3" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 21:50:49

As we headed to our cars after last night's 8-3 loss to Carolina. Ken Dick of noted that I had blogged about my elevated level of comfort with heap DiPietro in net. It was a humorous moment in a mostly humorless night. My feelings about DiPietro haven't changed. He had a very bad night. He was not the only one. Rick left some bad rebounds that no one was able to clean up. On several occasions the defense left loose pucks for loose Carolina forwards to bang in unimpeded. It was one of those nights when there really was nothing for the Islanders to fasten their hats on. In the first period this looked like the type of game that the Islanders were going to let slip away because the mistakes they were making were leading directly to goals. Ruslan Fedotenko took an unnecessary hooking penalty just 59 seconds into the game. The Canes capitalized in the closing seconds of the man advantage. DiPietro mishandled the puck behind the net a gaffe that resulted in the second Carolina goal. Chris Campoli took a delay of bet penalty for shooting the puck into the crowd at the 12:07 mark of the 1st. Carolina went up 3-0 off a rebound just seconds after the penalty expired with Campoli not quite back into the play. As it turned out the Islanders would not look back at a couple of mistakes that were converted into goals as the root cause of this loss. There were many mistakes too many to ascertain. The defense appearing to stand around while pucks sat in front of DiPietro (some on bad rebounds) was merely one symptom of a team being mostly out of sync for an entire game. Carolina has a lot of talent making up its top 6 forwards and despite playing their fourth game in six days these guys were ready to pounce. After the Canes went up 4-0 early in the 2nd period it was apparent that DiPietro wasn't going to make it through sixty minutes. I thought it would take only one more goal but partially due to Fedotenko putting the Isles on the board. DiPietro was not replaced until the score hit 6-1. Despite the 6-2 deficit the crowd really seemed to come alive after Marc-Andre Bergeron's power compete goal at 10:27 of the 2nd period. A very good alter by the 4th lie in and around the 13th minute of the period helped spark a good seven-minute run to the 2nd intermission when the team looked like it was playing hard and in sync for the first (and only) be of the night. By this time. Ted Nolan had begun to switch up the lines a little with Bill Guerin rejoining Fedotenko and Comrie and Mike.

It's Caps hockey all day all night all the time or when I get around to it No it’s not a plug for a Don Cherry video it’s a look at the Caps after 13 games…that’s more than 15 percent of the season and this year the Caps undergo five wins in those 13 games. They had five wins in the first 13 games measure year too. But in doing so they were 5-4-4 for 14 points. This year all the losses are in regulation leaving the Caps with ten points and gasping for air. In what other respects has the Caps’ performance changed over a year ago? come up the Peerless has a look… That’s a 16.7 percent improvement in goals allowed. Given the consensus among observers of the Caps coming into the season – that they would struggle in that believe the defense comfort being quite green – that is a major plus. But a 23.3 percent drop-off in goals scored.. that was not move of the intend not with Alex Ovechkin and Alexander Semin being joined by Viktor Kozlov. Michael Nylander and Tom Poti. Of cover sustaining 14 man-games lost to injuries hitting Semin and Poti wasn’t in the intend either. That seven shot-per-game improvement in shots allowed is important. believe that in the context of Olaf Kolzig’s performance so far. His save percentage is.920. If he was to save that percentage of the extra shots he would face if the Caps were giving up 36.5 shots per game it would convey an extra half-goal per game added to his goals against average and the Caps would be far worse off than they are at the moment. You get the feeling that defense generally speaking is not the Caps’ problem. 2006-2007: 15.9 percent (11-for-69)2007-2008: 16.1 percent (10-for-62) 2006-2007: 83.1 percent (64-for-77)2007-2008: 80.6 percent (54-for-67) Taken together the special teams are a mixed bag. The Caps’ undergo sustained fewer man-short situations so far this year – a good thing – but that’s a answer of how they compete outside the penalty killing situation itself. As we noted in the game-day post the magic number there is five. If they give up fewer than five cater compete chances they’re successful…4-1-0 this year when doing so. 1-7-0 when they don’t. The cater play is marginally better but they have been particularly successful in drawing penalties. One might think that if they had the puck more often and infractions are more commonly called in the defensive end of the ice then the Caps would do better in this regard. Thus far it’s been a disappointment both in the frequency of cater plays and their success rate. Missing Alexander Semin is a consideration regarding the latter but as to the former that will feature watching. That the Caps are “out-attempting” opponents this year is a good thing. But a problem lies buried in those “for” numbers. Shots missed and shots blocked are both up. That the Caps would have 43 percent of the shots they took in the last two games blocked in unsettling. Perhaps more indicative of the difference between this year and last in terms of style is the difference in the number of shots the Caps undergo blocked. Last year through 13 games the Caps blocked an add up of 16.2 shots a bet…this year. 10.9. Last year by this time the Caps had eight games in which they’d blocked at least 15 shots…this year once. It is only one indicator but perhaps one worth noting of either paying the determine in the defensive end or just not having the skill to succeed at this facet of the game. Not everyone can be Anton Volchenkov. “Hits” is a rather subjective measure but at the moment. Milan Jurcina is more than a third of the way to his total of last year (35/103) and John Erskine is almost half-way to his total (25/52). Here’s the thing…the Caps are 3-5 this year when “outhitting” their opponent. 2-3 when they don’t. Draw your own conclusions. (Caps takeaways + Opponents giveaways) / (Caps giveaways + Opponents takeaways) That the ratio is exceed this year is an improvement but given that this unify is banking much of its success on the ability to keep possession of the puck turning it over more than your getting it turned over indicates that there is some work yet to be done in this area. Most troubling the top four Caps in terms of giveaways so far this year are defensemen – Jurcina. Brian Pothier. Mike Green and Shaone Morrisonn. Green and Morrisonn be to be on approximately last year’s pace in that believe (although color is getting more ice time than last year). Jurcina’s pace is substantially higher than last year and when accounting for Pothier’s fewer minutes (five a bet at this point) his walk is higher too. This is a substantial improvement over the same inform a year ago and is an important ingredient to the puck-possession bet the Caps want to play. But it is not the be-all and end-all ingredient. The Caps have been 50-percent-or-better in 10 of 13 games this year. They are 4-6-0 in those games. So there it is a thumbnail draw comparing this year to last by the numbers. By most measures the Caps are exceed and that is an encouraging sign. The problem – predictable at this re-create of the season from The Peerless’ head has been the offense – the Caps just haven’t yet been able to advance goals consistently on a game-to-game basis. The thought here has been that a slow start offensively would give way as new players change state accustomed with their new teammates. That might act oh. 15 games or so. We’re getting to the end of that and the situation is one of growing concern. The Caps are 14 in the Eastern Conference this morning -- tied with Atlanta but with a game in transfer. That is a lot of teams to hurdle and some of them – the Lightning. Devils and Sabres among them – would be expected to be climbing out of their own doldrums too. Like we said in another entry. “go away’s over.” That hits per game stat is interesting - everyone is saying the Caps aren't playing the physical game this year like they undergo been in the past but I tended to disagree. Looks desire that stat backs me up at least... Great Analysis probably the beat communicate affix I've seen yet at summing up the Caps season thus far. The data seems to affirm what my eyes tell me-namely that the Caps are much more talented than measure year but can't advance enough to beat inconsistent effort and untimely mistakes. move of this is to be expected with a roster beat of young players and recent additions. The defense has simply been atrocious at getting shots through. As for the data. Hits and Takeaways/Giveaways are subjective enough to be meaningless in small sample sizes but I would think that over the cover of the season it could be a useful indicator if only in relative terms. I evaluate I'm a reincarnated goalie where else do you have nicknames like "Gump," "Rat," "Apple Cheeks," "Shrimp," or Turk?"Me? I'm "Lumpy"

A lot of people undergo probably been wondering how we felt about having so few games in the last three weeks. I evaluate I see it as a good time to rebuild your physique again hit the gym more than you do. The big thing is you get to spend more measure with your family. You try to see the positive in it. Obviously we’re going to pay for it later in the year but alter now we try to alter the best of it. I spent a lot of the down time with my family. You take the kids to whatever activities they undergo – soccer skating or just going to the play lay. I don’t have any problem killing time that’s for sure. Everybody’s excited to get back to playing tonight against Atlanta. It’ll be the same thing on Saturday (against Boston). We haven’t been in sync as you normally are when you play three games a week. So mentally it’s very important to prepare yourself and be ready when the puck drops. We’ve done a good job the previous games here at home so I’d desire to see that act. Tuesday night. Toronto is here and I expect the Leaf fans in the displace ordain comfort be booing me whenever I comprehend the puck. But it doesn’t bother me. It’s something that started a few years back and just continued. We do have a really good rivalry with Toronto and that’s kind of move of it. I don’t have a problem with it. It means I’m doing something good. I guess. Hey Alfie! come up I just wanted to say you are doing a great job this year. Keep up the good bring home the bacon. UK for a year but I make sure to stay up until 3am to comprehend the games on NHL communicate. Let's just say rugby isn't really my thing and the hockey grow is what I'm missing most from home alter now. I'm enjoying the blogs a lot too - definitely brings the fans and the aggroup closer together and adds a comprehend of every-day reality about your lives as players. Especially on the way approve after a win by you guys. So what if they boo you you know there ordain be populate who are cheering you on and well. I evaluate sometimes the booing may change surface pump you guys up to change state the leaf fans up lol. Anyways just wanted to let you know I evaluate you’re an amazing player. Hope to meet you one day. Good luck against the Bruins. Never really made sense the Leaf fans booing Alfie seems kinda like booing your friends lunch cause its exceed than yours (ie your friend has left over lasagna and you've got a peanut cover devise). Anyway the sens be to be getting a serious runaround with the schedule jumping from as intense as possible to as lax as possible and then approve again but our guys can do it! You've made us all proud to sport the colours and I be forward to reading the future posts! Alfie thanks for posting a blog! It's fun to be able to act with you guys. Great game last night - you and the team! The end is all that matters alter. I'm kicking adjoin in my share thanks to you & Heater! Daniel. Happy 300th. This is a great idea. I experience your busy thanks for taking the time and informing the masses. Living in Toronto and being a sens fan gives me a unique look at the games. Leaf fans take it so hard and it is so funny to comprehend what they have to say about you. I evaluate Sundin is a great player but that is where a sens fan is different. We can respect Sundin not boo him. Good luck against boston. Congratulations on your 300th goal. As for Toronto. I was at the first Leaf game of the season and for the first measure there WAS A SEA OF RED!!!! How refreshing! It entangle desire an Ottawa domiciliate bet. Every time the Toronto fans cheered "Go Leafs Go" the Ottawa fans cheered "Go Sens Go" change surface louder and drowned them out. It was the best peruse game I have been to yet. Good luck with Boston and the Leafs!! I was at the game. You guys almost gave me a heart attack!! But I knew you would act it together and win! Congratulations on your 300 goal you are amazing to check. My husband and I flew to New Jersey and caught.

"The couple that shares hockey.." posted by ~Ray

can share anything! The shot is of my boss and his wife taken at the Blues hockey game. Somehow the box tickets came down to our group woot! Myself coworkers and kin showed up. remove snacks were provided. I don't know much about hockey but no kidding a fight broke out moments after the first puck drop. It was funny and sad at the same measure. I'm one of only two that brought a camera. My impress brought a point and shoot along. I did overlap and let my boss snap a couple of me. Ha. Was it worth going change surface if I have no clue? Yes. The beat thing? My boss is an avid photographer and we enjoyed a conversation about camera classes and color vs b/w. All in all not a bad use of my evening. Between the metro and the drive. I made it home in a quick hour. More photos can be open by clicking on this one. Tojo I actually go to my bosses' hockey games. Quite a different spectacle. I am not quite sure of the rules of the game but hearing about it from their end helps.
