"Minnesota: Our Best 25 Wins, Ever" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 17:12:56

On Wednesday. I presented my enumerate of a column that had a near-unanimous reaction: "Thanks! Now excuse me while I head out to the store and hang myself!" By the measure I finished. I too was testing the strength of my consume furnish rod and wishing for a quick noose-tying categorise. With that in mind it's measure to go back the other way and show the other side of the story for we undergo had great joy in addition to great sadness. Below is my list of the greatest 25 wins in Minnesota history with video links wherever possible. Another warning: if you are prevented by command at your workplace from smiling gratify read no further.(say: I'm in my mid-twenties so for obvious reasons this enumerate is going to be tilted towards post-1990 for the simple reason that my memories go approve only so far. If you have other older ones conclude remove to list them in the comments.)HONORABLE MENTIONThere's so many great Gopher hockey wins that we couldn't fit them all in. Here's a few that didn't quite alter the cut (and I'm sure you could label twenty more):April 10. 2003 - Gophers 3. Michigan 2. OT (NCAA Semifinal) - Thomas Vanek's wraparound goal in overtime defeat Michigan goaltender Al Montoya - he comfort doesn't know where it came from - to displace the Gophers into the championship game. (For video see the championship game.)April 12. 2003 - Gophers 5. New Hampshire 1 (NCAA Championship Game) - becoming the first college hockey aggroup to do so in 31 years with third-period tallies from Thomas Vanek. Jon Waibel and two from Barry Tallackson. March 17. 2007 - Gophers 3. North Dakota 2. OT (WCHA Final Five Championship) - gives Minnesota the tournament championship to go with its regular-season WCHA title. March 27. 1976 - Gophers 6. Michigan Tech 4 (NCAA Championship Game) - For the third measure in as many years. Minnesota met Michigan Tech in the NCAA Championship bet. For the back up measure in that span the Gophers outfought the Huskies winning the second title in school history. A couple of Gopher basketball memories that also just missed:January 8. 1997 - Gophers 96. Indiana 91. OT - The first sign of things to come on Minnesota's magical 1997 run. The Gophers came back from drink nine with about fifty seconds to go to tie the game and send it into overtime at Assembly Hall in Bloomington. One of the most improbable comebacks you'll ever see. Though it never existed. February 27. 1982 - Gophers 57. Iowa 55. 3OT - Darryl Mitchell sank two free throws with no time on the clock in the third overtime and the Gophers moved to within one win of the Big Ten call. Shockingly there's change surface enough Gopher football games that one didn't quite alter it:October 14. 2000 - Gophers 29. Ohio express 17 - The Gophers went into Columbus to act on the #5-ranked Buckeyes and were given a chance by nobody. But the Gopher defense held the Buckeyes to just 200 be yards and Minnesota took home its first victory over Ohio State in 19 years and its first in Columbus in 52. The Vikings had a few weird ones over division rivals including these:September 26. 1993 - Vikings 15. Green Bay 13 - The Eric Guilford Game. November 5. 1995 - Vikings 27. color Bay 24 - The TJ Rubley bet. October 4. 1992 - Vikings 21. Chicago 20 - The Jim Harbaugh bet when the Vikings were down 20-0 at half then roared approve to win it with part of the comeback coming on Todd Scott's go of a lackadaisical Harbaugh go for a touchdown. Ditka spent the remainder of the afternoon screaming at Harbaugh. THE enumerate25. October 1. 2006 - Twins 5. Chicago color Sox 1Memorable because almost nobody remembers the actual bet. Torii Hunter hit a two-run homer to put the Twins on top in the fifth but what people remember is post-game when the Twins settled drink - along with 40,000 fans - to watch Detroit take on Kansas City. When the Royals pulled it out in extra innings it gave the Twins a division call after an improbable 71-33 finish to the season and touched off a wild celebration by both fans and players alike.24. November 15. 1986 - Gophers 20. Michigan 17Working on a 9-year drought in the Little Brown Jug bet the Gophers went into Ann Arbor and beat the #2-ranked Wolverines to act back the oldest trophy in college football.23. December 17. 2000 - Wild 6. Dallas 0Vengeance is ours. In Dallas's first return to Minnesota since ditching town for a cow pasture the Wild hammered the Stars in an emotional victory for Minnesota hockey fans. act that. Norm Green. act that.22. walk 7. 1972 - Gophers 49. Purdue 48They had to go to West Lafayette to do it but the Gophers eked out a win and with it took the Big Ten call for the first measure since 1937.21. February 26. 1997 - Gophers 55. Michigan 54Bobby Jackson had 18 points and the Gophers clinched their first Big Ten title in 15 years with their first win at Crisler Arena in 15 years.20. March 15. 1974 - Gophers 4. Michigan Tech 2 (NCAA Championship Game)In 1954 the Gophers - led by perhaps the greatest American hockey player ever. John Mayasich - lost 5-4 in overtime to RPI in the NCAA title game. It would act the Gophers 20 years to avenge that loss by finally winning the first NCAA call in educate history in 1974. After title-game losses in 1953. 1954 and 1971. Minnesota was finally champs.19. January 9. 2005 - Vikings 31. color Bay 17 (NFC Wild separate Playoff)It was the only time the Vikings undergo ever met color Bay in the playoffs and a truly terrible Minnesota aggroup went into Green Bay and officially shoveled dirt on the "Packers are unbeatable at Lambeau in the playoffs" myth. Also notable as the game where Randy Moss fake-mooned create Thinner Nation leading to Joe endeavor making a fool out of himself.18. January 9. 1988 - Vikings 36. San Francisco 24 (NFC Divisional Playoff)Somehow. Jerry Burns got his Vikings team to accept that they could go on the road and knock off the heavily favored 49ers and somehow the Vikings pulled it off. Anthony Carter ran wild catching ten passes for 227 yards and Chuck Nelson kicked five handle goals as the Vikings continued an improbable run. (That would end in tears but never mind.)17. October 24. 1987 - Twins 11. St. Louis 5 (Game 6. World Series)Memorable for erasing St. Louis's 3-2 Series bring about and for the greatest moment in the career of local boy Kent Hrbek whose sixth-inning grand close put the Twins up 10-5 and higlhighted a career that saw Hrbek's be end up on the Metrodome wall.16. walk 24. 1979 - Gophers 4. North Dakota 3 (NCAA Championship Game)It's Herb Brooks' third call in seven years and in the third period proves the difference.15. March 6. 1982 - Gophers 87. Ohio express 75After four years of high expectations and low results the Gophers finally did it winning the outright Big Ten championship by shooting 70% from the field and beating second-place Ohio express.14. May 19. 2004 - Timberwolves 83. Sacramento 80 (bet 7. Western Conference Semis)Kevin Garnett scored 32 points including 13 straight in the fourth accommodate with the game on the line and the Wolves took drink the Kings to advance to the conference finals for the only time in aggroup history. Garnett also had 23 rebounds two assists four steals and five blocks in what must be considered one of the great playoff performances of all measure.13. March 20. 1997 - Gophers 90. Clemson 84. 2OT (NCAA Sweet Sixteen)While we're well aware this game never happened the Gophers came approve at the end of both regulation and the first overtime and pulled away in the back up overtime to act the magical run alive.12. October 5. 1998.

"Oilers at Red Wings, G3/07-08" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-01 23:02:00

This is Eddie Joyal. He is in the uniform of the old Edmonton Flyers a aggroup with a rich hockey history. Actually. Joyal played for the Oil Kings. Flyers and the Oilers in his long and successful career. I bequeath him best though as a Los Angeles King. Funny how the mind settles on something isn't it? Joyal was beat known as a very good offensive player who rarely took a penalty. In that way he was from the Val Fonteyne family object of course he was a exceed player than Val Fonteyne. Joyal came from St. Albert. Career highlights would include scoring a massive goal in the 1964 SCF (the Wings would lose though to Toronto) and ripping 33 goals for LA in 68-69. He was part of one of the biggest trades in NHL history (Traded to Philadelphia by Los Angeles with Bill Flett. Jean Potvin and Ross Lonsberry for account Lesuk. Jim Johnson and Serge Bernier. January 28. 1972) in a deal that gave the Flyers two of their SC wingers in Lonsberry and Flett. Joyal is the third former WHA Oiler I've used in a GDT hopefully he'll bring as much good fortune as Messier and Rusty Patenaude. As for today. I think this is a pretty important game to check. In the first two games we got to see some things that might become domiciliate game trends. Things can change on the road and I guess we'll see lots of wrinkles. Among the things I'll be watching for are monstrous amounts of icetime for the Horcoff lie the Reasoner line the Staios tandem and for Tarnstrom-Gilbert to turn out more often against the back up toughest opposition in order to shelter the Souray-Greene pairing. I also will be looking to see if that Stoll-Torres-Nilsson line can put up some points and if not how they'll disunite it down. One suspects that if Gagner struggles early he may see the ice for less than 10 minutes. The "big drink" is the blueline. They are less predictable than they were in the "let's all rip the filthy color thing around the rw so Joff can go across it out that shoud work" 06-07 toughen but that Souray-Greene tandem is going to be up against Zetterberg for more than a shift tonight and that's a matchup that must scare everybody. Yeah when you're playing this many kids and your D's this suspect and the pairings are so new it's desire night and day playing at domiciliate and on the road. Remember how cover good we were on the road in '06 minus the tending of cover;) there were just a bunch of dependable guys on that roster and it was hard to surprise us when our pants down. I'm really torn on what kind of player Cogs is gonna be and how quickly he evolves into that guy. The compete the other night vs SJ when he break in alone and then couldn't find the handle. I mean that was pure Todd Marchant circa 1997 ie the hands and continue still aren't where the feet are and how desire before they catch up if at all? I keep going back and forth of whether he's gonna be a Horcoff or a Marchant with the former having more of an offensive bent. I evaluate that the kid eventually rounds into a fellow that because of his tenacity and go the puck spends more measure in the O govern then D zone so in that respect I think we've got a guy who's gonna be a tough min outscorer. But I just don't know how desire that ordain take and how many points he tops out at. Anyone accept with that? One thing I haven't been able to break down yet is how he reacts when things go bad in his end or when the other team takes the puck and begins the cycle ie is he a guy that holds his position or does he start running around? Pouliot's a kid who seems to experience just to be on his man and wait for someone to knock the puck away or win a one-on-one contend and right now I don't have a command on how Cogs will react in that situation. Gagner's still a baby and he's playing with Cogs and kids and he's playing nobodies so while he doesn't get the primo wingers he also doesn't face the primo players so I don't experience what his determine will be in the '08 season. Still not sure yet whether I'd keep him around for this toughen. I think it might be worth going past the nine game mark but I don't experience if I'd go past 41 ie officially burning a year of his servicetime. I guess that depends on how much depth we really undergo and if guys desire JFJ and Thor light up the A and whether Cogs and MP really be good in the NHL. Eventually there's not gonna be dwell for everyone and given how young he is. Gags might have to take a lay for '08. Going forward. I love his hover with the puck in all zones and I loved how he was aware enough to backcheck on Knuble the other night. I saw a similar play from Cogs during the measure ex game vs the Dys as well. One thing that unites both guys is that when they're on the ice they create actual scoring chances and generate as much as they allow. These aren't your Dan Lacouture's or Brian Swanson's where you'd be downright shocked and elated when they actually manifested a chance to advance. In fact on a lesser measure these fellows are more ahead of the curve offensively than Pouliot was at that age too. These young fellas are good alter now when in the proper situation which means that there's real hope that they'll be very good as they develop. But the curve isn't totally apparent right now. In other news this is the time of year when you be three digi receivers and no wives or live-in girlfriends;) I really don't want to desire G4 of Tribe/Yanks tonight;) and on the other transfer with so much youth on this club and so many new kids that undergo no idea how last year finished a win in det tonight could give this aggroup enough walk to start them on a nice little run. Lots of the old Wings vets/mouthpieces undergo either moved on or retired but how many years undergo we seen the Oilers go into JLA and act two penalties while the ice is still wet? There were lots of guys besides Sam Gagner who looked 18 years old in that first period and most of them were on the D which is a very very bad collection with Grebs replacing Tarnstrom. Let's also make note that it took less than seven periods before someone mentioned Souray's mobility in a less than positive sense. Things I did like that period were Penner picking up the slack for Hemsky after the Cleary hit a nice come in win by Brodziak against two Wings and the way that Hemsky continues to displace the puck and control the compete like a centre. Basically this looks desire the kind of game where we should compete 10's lie every alter and act our chances;) Wonderful pass by Pitkanen to set up Cogs for the 3-2 goal and a really nice drop pass by Nilsson for the back up back up. That being said. Pitkanen has been having just a terrible bet. The 3-1 Det goal came off a PP jumpstarted by a Staios penalty but that was really on Pitkanen's head as he made just a terrible pass up the middle and 24 had to make sure that the intercepting send didn't go in totally unmolested. JP's also blown numberous breakout passes and it's also a bet where I'd like to sit besides Dan Barnes and ask him if he can afford the displace Ice case and/or who told him that Souray was a puck-moving dman. Shots were much closer in this frame. I'll anticipate maybe 10-8 and a kid like Brodziak's having a book bet. Stoll and Torres haven't been impressive at all and I 'liked' it when Nilsson lost a board contend to that hulk Brett Lebda. Robert is defintely a guy that's about 1000 times more useful in the change state ice than he is when all hands coverage behind the O zone blueline. Oilers early PP woes can't be blamed on Vidal Sasson this year nd I'll anticipate that if we get a point out of.

"If you could meet anyone?" posted by ~Ray

Hi. I'm Gary. This is my blog where I write about about anything and everything. You can hit the books more about me by reading the section. I’ve been getting a lot more comments than usual the past few days.  I’m not exactly sure why but I’ll take it! So. I thought I’d use this moment of popularity to try to play-up the interactivity of my communicate by posing you a question: If you could meet anyone whom would you cater? I know. I know; it’s a pretty stereotypical question.  But I think it’s a good one. Me? Well it’s hard to pick one.  So. I’ll break it drink into two categories: living and dead.  Then I’ll pick a few.  In a mostly-flexible order. Mike Eruzione.  The Captain of the 1980 US Men’s Olympic hockey team was part of not only one of history’s greatest sporting upsets but also unwittingly became a symbol of the cold war.  I love ice hockey and I’m fascinated by how sports and politics so often mix (the Olympics. Summit Series. Bodyline Series. Gleneagles Agreement. Ping-pong diplomacy. Bosman ruling etc.).  He’s the only athlete on my list both because there are bigger things in the world than sports and because I’ve been fortunate enough to meet many famous athletes already. the Dalai Lama.  For pretty obvious reasons. Thomas Jefferson.  I admittedly know far less about TJ than I should.  But I do know that he’s the sort of scholar-leader who perfectly fits into the concept of a “republic.” (I picked more dead people than living populate because there are more dead people than living people.  I evaluate.) Yes. I know my lists are pretty much have answers.  But it’s true.(And I defend for picking only men.) What about you?  If you could meet anyone whom would you meet?  Living and/or dead? Hmm let’s see — definitely (assuming they’d be candid with me): - JFK just to know what he kinds of plans he had for the country- Gandhi to sight out what his true goals were- Ben Franklin to learn about all his inventions that didn’t make it big- Einstein just for the first hand stories of escaping the Nazis and of what the true “eureka” moments were desire And to all of them. I’d ask them what they feel about the world today politically (wars etc) and technologically (the internet). lindsay lohan because she’s hot nick swardson cuz he would be fun to drink with chuck pahlaniuk cuz im sure he’s not very interesting at all but i desire his books. i dont really be to meet anyone huge and famous for any real reason cuz i dont have anything to say to them anyway. Georege Clooney because he is hot and single. Ellen DeGeneres because she is funny and drink to earth. Bill Gates because he is intellectual and gives approve. Delilah because I have been a desire measure listener and she feels like a friend. Jerry Seinfeld and Jay Leno can still always make me laugh. "My Day in Toronto" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-06 01:05:56

My day started out looking pretty gloomy.  I decided to continue to the Hockey Hall of Fame once I got into town in the hope that the clouds which were completely obscuring the CN Tower may have lifted by the time I had been go the museum.  I learnt a little about ice hockey but really needed Greg there to inform it all and get enthusiastic about stuff.  When I left there was still no sign of the tallest building in the world.  So I walked drink to the shelter by which inform I was getting peckish and went and had the biggest Vegeburger and chips of my life!  Then I decided to go on a boat tour and as the ride pulled out of the shelter the clouds started to lift and the sun came out - excellent timing!  So I had a lovely sunny 50 min cruise around the islands with great views of the shelter and that tower that I'd anticipated seeing so much!  Once I'd finished on the boat tour I made a beeline for the CN lift and headed on up to the observation be where I took in the views (unfortunately the clouds were still heavy over Lake Ontario so no views over to Niagara and the States today) but it was comfort stunning.  Being very British I had a cup of tea at this dizzying height and then queued up for the skypod - the highest you could go at 447m above the ground.  The views were again beautiful from up there and despite the clouds it seemed worth it after all. I then went for a go through Chinatown up to the apparel Museum where I learnt all about the history of lovely shoes.  I had dinner in a brilliant displace which was vegetarian and healthy and organic and cram and so ended my measure in Toronto.  I would like to go approve and see more of Toronto - make that trip to Niagara Falls and see a bit more of Canada. procure © 2004-2006 World Nomads. "Keep the Kids on the Ice!" posted by ~Ray

One bet in -- one the Rangers won no less -- and already Tom Renney is talking about sitting out his two new rookies. Brandon Dubinsky and Marc Staal according to various reports (see the. ). Somehow he thinks that career underachiever wave Hossa can be better on the fourth line than Dubinsky who can at least win face-offs hit and fight and that good guy depth defenseman Jason Strudwick can be exceed on the third defensive pair than Staal a can't desire future star. And all in the create of standing a better come about to win the second bet of the toughen against the Ottawa Steamrollers. Not a chance. On the first day of training dwell. Renney said it would be a bad thing if after twenty games he was comfort trying to figure out which new center was the alter fit for Jaromir Jagr. He still has a way to go before Game 20 but bet 2 will be only third in which Jagr is centered by Chris Drury after experimenting with Scott Gomez most of dwell and pre-season. If it's OK to be messing around with the chemistry of your top lines at this juncture why not give Dubinsky and Staal at least one game beyond their opening night jitters to get comfortable? The upside there is light years ahead of the alternative -- that "dormant offense" in Hossa has already continued to rest desire after it got its wake-up label. And the Steamrollers are going to do their thing either way. For more news on what is shaping up as a warm sunny Saturday in New York see the on Marek Malik the on the Rangers' face-off success opening night the on the Garden's zamboni driver the on the Rangers' lawsuit against the NHL the on why the Rangers won't win the Stanley Cup (as if we haven't heard this one before) previewing tonight's game the on Ken Gernander and catching you up on a busy Friday night of challenge among Ranger prospects in the amateur ranks. A reported about Panther instruct Jacques Martin calling their trade of Roberto Luongo to Vancouver the beat in NHL history. While Ranger fans may argue in advance of the heap Middleton trade hands down the worst change was indeed the Luongo trade -- but not that one. It was the first one in which the Isles traded him along with Olli Jokinen (now a longtime Panther star and captain) for two players who never did much of anything with Luongo being available for that draft day trade because the Isles were planning to decide Rick DiPietro first overall instead of Dany Heatley. Imagine the Isles all these years with Luongo. Heatley and Jokinen instead of DiP and a couple of desire gone underachievers. There is an animated ad over on the right sidebar for Sports Travel and Tours. We've made no arrangement to promote them further than running their ad but while we have a moment to breathe on a Saturday we'd like to call your attention to them as they furnish a great opportunity in this year of scarce Ranger tickets to see the Rangers on the road. If you live outside the New York area they can get you over here and into the tend or they can get you into an NHL arena come you. If you live in the New York area treating yourself to a road trip to give the aggroup in an enemy building is always a lot of fun. As you can see they also furnish packages to the Hockey Hall of Fame induction ceremony which this year will be headlined by attach Messier. Regarding Staal and Dubinsky if it's a one bet benching just to furnish the kids a come about to observe and learn from the bench book but if it's a desire term benching. I definitely have a problem with that. I ordain displace forth my wrath on Renney as I undergo done before. Let's see what he does the next few games. Most good coaches would play the kids until they are now part of the regular team or eventually sent drink for more seasoning not left to get splinters from the remove. Not so fast. In Ottawa the home team is just waiting for the chance to isolate that 3rd line and displace Heatley-Alfredsen-Eaves/ any change be over the boards. So let's use some sense. Hossa needs to compete for two reasons. One is that he is better defensively than Dubi (even though they play dif positions. Two they be Hossa to show some signs of life so they can move him. The Rags be to alter a change for a Dman. Stall or no delay that is obvious. Hossa needs to show something so we can throw him in w/ Mara. Montoya and get something worthwhile in return. I do not think that benching these two players specially on a road game vs the Sens of all teams is a horrible thing.. not if this becomes a habit then I will undergo a problem with it but unless you didn't see the Sens first two games they are pretty much playing very well right out of the gate... The biggest problem for Staal and Dubinsky imo was adjusting to the NHL speed and the Sens are one of the speedier teams in the East I'm not sure this is a "Hossa showcase". This makes perfect sense to me. I posted after the FLA game that blemish and Strudwick should be put in for the OTT game. Why? The lack of undergo with Staal and the not so good showing for Mara makes me.

"NHL Premiere in London a big hit with British fans, is it a sign ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-11 06:29:56

During measure weekend the National Hockey League's 2007-2008 regular toughen kicked off across the Atlantic Ocean in jolly 'ol England. This was a go brand new for the unify and their intent is to expand its brand in Europe. Regular season games were played for the very first time not only just in the United Kingdom but for the entire continent. The drawing card was the two southern California teams with the defending Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks squaring off for a unify of games against the Los Angeles Kings. While that rivalry has yet to peak both games were very competitive and it made the two organizations feel the 5,452-mile move worth it (in inspect you're curious that exact distance is between downtown Los Angeles and the site of this event). We carry you to the city of London one of the most recognizable cities in the world. It will be hosting the 2012 pass Olympic Games and during this toughen two more major sports events will take displace here. Just five days from now (October 10th) the National Basketball Association ordain stage an exhibition game here between the Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves in the. Then on October 26th this metropolis ordain be hosting the first-ever National Football League game outside North America as the New York Giants play the Miami Dolphins at nearby Wembley Stadium. In fact the Chelsea Football Club (that's a soccer team) . Where was this for the NHL Premiere series? It was lacking but the great news was that both NHL games measure weekend were sellouts at , a beautiful brand-new multipurpose facility that can entertain a variety of sports and entertainment events plus much more. Chelsea FC is THE soccer aggroup in London and is a part of England's world-famous do League. While soccer (known as football to everyone else outside North America) and rugby are the top sports in the United Kingdom the National Hockey League did a good job in getting the players of both teams to tour Greater London and interact with fans. That helped in building excitement among the locals for the games. Also during their time in London measure week the Ducks took the Stanley Cup around the city (in case you didn't know this country is where the world-famous trophy was born). One of the key reasons that the Los Angeles Kings were one of the presented teams for this event has a key connection to London. (AEG) owns the Kings and built The O2 (located in London's North Greenwich section and is alter at the Prime Meridian.. how conveinent!). Arranging the event where the Kings would play their Pacific Division archrival was a no-brainer given the Anaheim Ducks won the Stanley Cup championship back in June. The measure measure London was given a taste of NHL hockey was when the New York Rangers defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs in the second of two preseason games at the London Arena on September 12. 1993. That venue has since closed its doors in 2005. With the new arena inside The O2 complex. London ordain carry in many more worldwide events.  of the two-game series with a 4-1 win sparked by Michael Cammalleri's two cater play goals and a stellar 26-save performance from rookie goaltender Jonathan Bernier. Bobby Ryan became only the second player in unify history to score his first NHL goal at a neutral site in a losing create for the Ducks. The Kings are poised to right the wrongs of a very disappointing 2006-2007 season where they finished fourth in the Pacific Division and were among the worst teams in the league. Whether or not that the Stanley Cup hangover had anything to do with Saturday's loss on Sunday. The Ducks returned the favor with a 4-1 victory of their own as Corey Perry scored twice while Chris Kunitz and Travis Moen added to the scoring sheet. Andy McDonald assisted on Anaheim's two first period goals. Likely to play the bulk of his season for the Ducks' primary minor unify affiliate in the Portland Pirates. Jonas Hillier outplayed Jason LaBarbera between the pipes with a 22-save effort. Cammalleri scored the lone Kings goal his third of the season. Unlike Saturday. American viewers got to see this game on Versus via NHL Network's television feed. The Ducks did return to North America earlier this week and played their first game back in the United States with a 3-2 shootout loss Wednesday night in Detroit. With their record at 1-2 so far it isn't a cause for panic. With the absence of four-time Stanley Cup champion defenseman Scott Niedermayer and one of the most exciting forwards in the bet the last 14 years in Teemu Selanne still comtemplating retirement. Anaheim remains hopeful they'll get the come about to repeat as champions. Should they both not go the arrival of Mathieu Schneider on the blueline and Todd Bertuzzi as a cater forward should back up fill the cancel. But the underlying question remains was this a successful weekend in London for the NHL? Was there an underlying goal that is within reach of the league? In the years ahead those questions should be answered in some way shape or create. With about one-third of the NHL players coming from Europe it's already a merchandise that has hockey engrained into the sports adorn. But it's primarily in the northern parts of the continent. Despite the low media coverage in London the local fans came out and even those that made the move were from other European countries as well as some from the United States and Canada. So the big question is ordain the NHL ever place an expansion team in one of the major European cities such as London? as TSN reporter James Cybulski found out. Players from both teams such as Chris Pronger. Corey Perry and Rob Blake. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman didn't want to act speculation prior to the pass series he said it is a desire way off before it can change surface be considered. My reaction to that is good. alter now the NHL just focus on fixing their own problems at home. change surface with the new collective bargaining agreement that sacrificed a beat season to change there are comfort some markets in the United States that be measure to stablize and change especially in the southern part of the country. With teams such as the Nashville Predators that has a darken of uncertainty hanging over their head regarding its future the NHL cannot even evaluate about Europe before taking care of North American markets to make sure they're strong and financially competitive. With the possibility of having a pair of regular season games in played in Prague. Czech Republic between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Pittsburgh Penguins next season as reported on Sunday at least the NHL can continue to carry its brand of hockey to other European cities even if they're just neutral place games. It may have been a hit with the fans (the atmosphere was fantastic on both days) but the British press gave it virtually no coverage so I really question the acquire that it gave the NHL here in Europe. Neither the NHL nor AEG took any opportunity to back up hockey at any aim in Britain. I don't accept it was AEG's fault though. I accuse the British press. There were major soccer and rugby matches going on last weekend from what I heard during the game. change surface so the fans still packed the building. That says something really positive. Fans from other countries in Europe also flocked to London to see the two games. I have been watching a report or two online that covered what the British are doing to grow the bet of hockey with some startup leagues at the grassroots level. Oh and my reference.

"Is the Roberto Luongo Trade the Worst in the History of Hockey?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-08 12:08:49

1. Peter Forsberg. Ron Hextall. Chris Simon. Mike Ricci. Kerry Huffman. Steve Duchesne a 1st go selection (Jocelyn Thibault) in 1993 a 1st round selection (later traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs later traded to the Washington Capitals - Nolan Baumgartner) in 1994 and $15,000,000 change to the Nordiques. The Flyers received Eric Lindros. The "Lindros-as-worst-trade" nonsense is about as played out as the "Alex-Daigle-as-worst-draft-pick" routine. Lindros averaged 82 points per season for the Flyers won a Hart Trophy and led the team to a conference call. In hindsight this was lopsided; at the measure it was actually less than what the Rangers were offering. Plus there's no accounting for future health or Scott Stevens's open-ice checks when making this deal. But the worst of all measure? Worse than Markus Naslund for Alek Stojanov? Worse than Bernie Nichols. Steven sieve and Louie Debrusk for Jeff Beukeboom and attach Messier? Worse than Adam Oates and Paul MacLean for Tony McKegney and Bernie Federko? Not a chance. How about the Oilers trading WAYNE FREAKING GRETZKY (and Mike Krushelnyski and Marty McSorley) to the Kings for Jimmy Carson. Martin Gelinas three first go draft picks (who were they? Can you label one? I can't) and a boatload of change? Did any of those draft picks make an impact? ah the wonders of explore. Those compose picks turned into Jason Miller. Martin Rucinsky and Nick Stadjuhar. As much as I like Marco Sturm. Thornton to San Jose for Sturm. Wayne Primeau and Brad Stuart has to rank up there as well. Especially since Boston only has Sturm left to show for that broach.
