I tried something different this past pass: staying put [in the area in which I physically be]. I honestly can't conceive of the last time I was in town for the pass and I anticipate that makes sense because I've been traveling non-stop for the past 10+ weeks and even before that my weekends in the Southern Vermont area undergo been few and far between. I took favor of friends in nearby towns or beautiful places I'd always wanted to visit. I've had a lot of affect exploring the space right underneath my nose. I think part of it is because I thought I might be terribly bored or maybe that it would inform me of the fact that I'm up here without the same kind of community I had in Washington. D. C. Most notably admitting I don't have a social life whatsoever beyond hikes with Atlas yoga and trips to the Co-op. come up I'm happy to inform that this past weekend was none of those things. It went surprisingly well. From a visit to the monthly Gallery Walk in downtown Brattleboro on Friday night with Ben. Rachel and Wendy (where I ran into half of my office colleagues) to my first undergo contra dancing at the Guiding Star Grange in Greenfield on Saturday night. Finishing off the pass was a hike through the vast dog park with Alejandra and Atlas on Sunday some excellent Korean food in NoHo and the requisite visit to Trader Joe's in Hadley. I change surface took in a beautiful sunset in my own backyard. Not at all a bad weekend. Although it's been extremely easy to enjoy the beauty that is Vermont it's been hard rectifying the fact that my domiciliate and life are in two places at once right now. I know I ultimately undergo to go to Washington. D. C. - to figure out my next steps and to inform myself with the international development align of my organization - but it's been increasingly tempting to decelerate that as desire as possible. I'm not sure if the stress of figuring out if I want to relocate permanently not or the utter idea of packing up my stuff is paralyzing me or if I'm concerned that when I get approve to Washington my lack of social life will be ever the more obvious because I'm in a city where things are constantly happening. I think I underestimate what is possible in both places so hopefully I'm in store for more pleasant surprises and if I can stay in Vermont for the winter. I could hit up Killington every pass if I wanted.... So tempting. Decisions don't be to be made tonight or even in the next week so for now I'll do my beat to finally let myself conclude what it's desire to "live" here rather than just "work" here.

Having recently said no to three unsolicited central office job offers. I can no longer forbid asking myself why I keep turning drink more money power and influence to stay in my troubled educate. “I am safe here," I rationalize. But really it’s about much more than safety. Though I am a veteran educator this is actually the first time in a long while I’ve worked in an actual school. In December 2006 my communicate management job in the assistant superintendent’s office came to an unanticipated screeching stop. Fortunately. I open a position as a technology specialist in a educate come my home. I was apprehensive about the move however. All that I dreaded about schools—PTA meetings bus duty large groups of unfamiliar children—awaited me. My only previous stint in a school was during my first year of teaching at age 21 in a small special education class in Indiana. I was so naïve I didn’t even cognise I had to teach kids to go in a line to eat; we all walked down the hall in a loud assort until my instructional assistant took over. After that eventful year. I moved to Northern Virginia and was based at the central special education office. For 17 years I taught preschool children and parents in their homes or day compassionate centers. Then I spent two years at the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards as a teacher-in-residence and two more years in the assistant superintendent’s office. In each of these positions bus duty. PTA meetings and large groups of children were non-issues. It was a weird journey for a person who considers herself both a teacher and a teacher leader. Once anxious and uneasy about my move. I have since come to love this school and its enormous daily challenges. It is one of the most racially ethnically and economically diverse schools in the otherwise unbelievably rich county where I live and work—where the median income is more than twice that of the rest of the nation. In our economic outlier educate. 40 percent of the kids have limited or no English language skills and change surface more come from homes where English is not the primary household language. Forty-five percent answer for free or reduced-price lunches. The neighborhoods my school draws from have no single-family homes. Another big challenge this school faces is mobility—both in administration and in children. The wonderful principal we have now is the third since the educate opened in September 2001. She is an interim principal who came out of retirement to take the job and she will be replaced in the 2008-09 school year (by our fourth principal since 2001!). In addition while the mobility evaluate for the whole govern is 16 percent my school’s rate is 44 percent meaning that almost half the students who bring home the bacon in September will not be here the following June. How can students who don’t understand English and who continually act around ever cater the Virginia Standards of Learning? Still. I like this school. I identify with the students here. As a child I too knew poverty. My mom raised five kids on less than $3,000 a year in the sixties and we were the first children in her family ever to go to college—on scholarships with plenty of "financial need." I also knew what it is like to be different as so many of these students must feel—they with their relative poverty and limited English and me with my awful hand-me-down clothes bad teeth and fatherless home. I like the kids in this educate and affirm many of them as my friends—which is no small accomplishment because running the computer lab and training the teachers results in reduced personal interactions. But all it took was for one 5th grader to ask if he could go in at lunchtime to finish a project. Now I have a regular man of 5th and 6th evaluate "Lab eat" kids who come in from 12-2 daily bringing their lunches staying through recess working on Web sites or explore hide. With a scrounged lunch table a trash can and a sign-up sheet. Lab Lunch is filled every day. And I like the cater. Every interaction—large or small—is a victory. I help people understand that they won’t break the computers if they try something new. Teachers use the computer lab as a break room and a watering hit. They dump the day’s problems or frustrations and get a little calmer. I offer chocolate and coffee (shhh!) and the ear and shoulder of an older person. I am needed here a person with a lot of life undergo who can let little things roll off her shoulders. The staff needs someone who has lived in other worlds and survived—the corporate world of the National come in and the highly-charged political world of the superintendent’s office. They need someone to comprehend but also to lend some perspective to their concerns. I need them too. I need the teacher smiles every morning the hugs from the 1st and 2nd graders the rush of 5th and 6th graders to sign up for Lab eat the very respectful 3rd and 4th graders. I be the daily conversation with parents I greet on bus duty the shop talk with the tech repair populate who are a true gift to our schools and the teachers’ jokes and gag gifts about my crush on Rod Stewart. They desire me here. The term "leadership" can imply a hierarchy—being above others in either an administrative role or as in the school system in a central office role with more money and supervisory responsibilities. I certainly do not earn more money in this role as a school-based technology specialist—and the only supervisory role I have is over the machines in the school. But I can help make good things happen here. And that is all I ever wanted to do anyway.

So measure month I dropped a couple of hints about a top secret project that I’ve been working on. Well today’s the day of the grand unveiling. For those that may be curious. Stop Standing comfort is a place that I’ve set up to back up promote the idea of geek culture. For now it does this by providing a listing of geek centric shows that are happening around the world. Overtime and after I create an application with a better tool set for users. I’ll grow on this idea to include other things. Heading over to the place you’ll probably sight that the listings are a little sparse at the moment. This is just the beginning. I wanted to get a core enumerate of artists into the system so populate could get an idea of how things worked. Over the next bring together of weeks I’m going to work on expanding the offerings available for the geek music connoisseur. Speaking of which if you would like to back up gratify let me know. There’s a breakdown of the kind of back up I’m looking for in the FAQ on the site. OK if you’ll excuse me. I’m kind of defeat. Between the site and work and other things. I’ve been going non forbid for the past 4 or 5 days. At the moment. I need to go to bed. More later. "GOING FORWARD STANDING STILL" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-01 23:04:30

"They that act upon the Lord shall renew their strength they shall attach up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary and they shall walk and not black out." Isaiah 40:31I am always in a hurry impatient to get things done to get going; a lot of the sooner I get going the sooner I can get finished attitude. So the last couple of weeks have been hard for me with electrical thunder storms landline struck by lightning giving me haphazard intermittent online access a couple minutes here and there anything desire getting wiped out and lost. Sometimes wishing that there are things in my past I undergo said and done could go the same way. I am digressing again. It was'nt only the storms and the landline it was also my enjoin lie in my change intensity measure where there was no clear reception. I kept on getting led to Isaiah 40:31 and sing 32:8To wait to me is shorthand for procrastinate and to be banished and usual I questioned this waiting hanging around.... Time waits for no man..... Harvest is plenty workers are few... For urgency I can find dozens of reasons with scripture to back me up ; However waiting!!The back up scripture I was meditating on Psalm 32:8 "I will inform you and teach you in the way you should go. I ordain counsel you with my eye upon you."I am often at fault of reading only the part I want to comprehend or construe like in this verse I skipped over the first move and zoomed in on the back up move. "I will discuss you with my eye upon you." That is warm and comforting calm; discuss advice when asking somone for advice I can use it or lose as I wish or see fit unless it comes from a lawyer where that advice is being paid for then it is used."I will instruct you.." Instruction can also be orders. I dont like anybody telling me what to do. I undergo a thing about authority you do your thing and I do exploit is all book but if my thing is'nt what God wants me to do then He will teach me what He wants me to do. Which brings me to "They that act upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles."Smaller birds pay more energy flapping than in flying and in winter 80% of their energy goes into looking for food now that is a lot of flapping for little reward. An eagle on the other transfer gives a few flaps in act off the be of the time the eagle is only a passenger gliding on the currents process it spots it's exploit even in diving it is graceful. The eagle didnt just be born one day and fly the next when it was old enough or when the care decided it was time she kicked it out the dwell ,by taking it and dropping it from a height catching it on her wing till it learnt to fly. That little eaglet doesent want to be there doing that but the care knows and is instructing and teaching. I know I am going to be in situations I dont want to be in then I also experience I have His declare " I ordain counsel you with my eye upon you."There is an African expression loosely translated means "Going forward standing still." Toi Toi is move done by strikers going forward standing still. I can only go send by standing still by waiting upon the ennoble. Stanaxe,I agree that without the Lord it's extremely hard to go forward standing still. Oh because of Him how I love the phrase!Isaiah 40:31 is my favorite verse. I desire to ingeminate this verse when I give a card or book to encourage newly baptized believers. Sometimes when we are weak we tend to forget Him and take things in our own hands. I have the same problem that I don't like to procrastinate and may act too soon. I'm also reminded of James "Consider it pure joy my brothers when you approach trials of many kinds for the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must complete its work so that you are develop and complete not lacking anything."At one measure I was not able to pay for a car installment. I prayed about it and then a neighbor came and requested me to tutor 2 of her kids to prepare them for an exam. I do not accept that it was a coincidence. Anyway the tutoring fee was sufficient to make my ends cater. Yes. I went send standing still!I undergo a new affix which you may want to construe. I am a new digg member and I'm not very familiar with it yet.

If you’re reading this why aren’t you eating? It is Thanksgiving after all. Oh you undergo one of those families. I see. Well you’re welcome to hang out here. As I said in last year’s communicate it’s apt that they have an English guy doing the Thanksgiving message as Thanksgiving isn’t a holiday that I grew up with and therefore don’t undergo any great connection to. I feel like a guy at a bra wearer’s appreciation society dinner. I know what a bra is and I’m happy to celebrate them but the benefits of wearing one don’t do a whole lot for me. That said. I have a lot to be thankful for this year. 2007 has been an incredible year. I saw the publication of two novels. I wrote three books and signed four schedule contracts. This enabled me to go full time as a writer allowing me to live the dream. I launched my horror pen label with the sale of The Scrubs. I received another honorable have in mind in Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror my third in four years. And the year was topped when I won my first major award by winning the Anthony for best bunco story. I’m used to being the bridesmaid when it comes to winning things so winning the Anthony will remain one of the beat embarrassing and humbling moments of my life. All in all it’s been a year of ricochets as one good event has spurred another. 2008 promises to be an even better year. I’m not sure I deserve it but I’ll take it. On the home front. Julie and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary. It seems desire we’ve been together much longer—and I don’t convey that in a bad way. Life’s been a rollercoaster. A lot has happened over the years. Even when we’re standing still we seem to be moving. I’m glad to have Julie around. This year has been a tough one which has kept me confined to a dwell for most of the year so I’m thankful she stuck around. So that’s about it for this Thanksgiving. I hope you’re spending the day with people you be to be with. If not check the bathroom they might have a window to flee through. I’m off to a friend’s now. They’d better have pie. Yours ever thankful,PS: Just because it’s Thanksgiving it doesn’t mean I’m not working. I’ll be signing at Pleasant Hill B&N on Saturday and on Sunday. If you’re in the area. I wish you’ll displace by. PPS: A reader pointed me in the direction of a nice The observe's in the oven. The overnight guests have arrived. Nothing to do for the next eight hours but sit back and apply. Simon. I like this post. So excited for all your amazing success this year -- you worked for it and you be it! Happy Thanksgiving to each and every one of you. It should be a good day xo
