I am literally starting to think “Homer” is by far exceed than Bob Clarke was at least Clarke’s post lock-out term. I seriously think Clarke would not undergo acted on these opportunities like hit has done getting Kimmo Timonen and Scott Hartnell getting rid of Forsberg for Scottie Upshall and Ryan Parent trading Joni Pitkanen in exchange for Joffrey Lupul and Jason Smith and the signing of Danny Briere. Not to have in mind late toughen acquisitions Lasse Kukkonen and Braydon Coburn. I only not praise him for the guys he signed in the off season but also for the luggage unloaded during the weeks leading up to the trade deadline. Holmgren got rid of Alexi Zhitnik who was a solid veteran defenseman but who had a big salary. hit got rid of Kyle Calder a big disappointment for the Flyers in the 06-07 season. He also brought in a much needed solid goaltender. Marty Biron while also giving Antero Niittymaki high remarks on his efforts for the Flyers and wanting him to continue to be with the Flyers and continue to develop into a better goalie.
All that was done within the past 8 months but more importantly he’s done things quick and without back up thoughts. He has literally turned the Flyers into a measure place team full of bagage and much needed gaps to alter (leadership goaltending. Defensemen speed) and has filled every hole.
The Flyer fans love our new players especially Upshall who’s a young fierce competitor who’s making me evaluate. Peter WHO? Of cover that is just a evaluate of speech of mine who can forget Peter Forsberg? Magic Foot should be his new call sorry couldn’t elude.
Bob Clarke was no disbelieve a good GM for the Flyers brought the Flyers out of their late 80s/early 90s droop. But when he could barley do anything after the first season under the new CBA ended every Flyer fan and NHL fan knew that the Flyers where going to undergo trouble go their way. Heaven forbid the Flyers become a Washington Capitals team…or a Florida Panthers… but yet sadly both teams beat the Flyers measure year in the standings…as well as 27 other teams. Anyway after the 2005-2006 toughen ended Clarke barley made moves and the moves he did make where on unproven players: Marty Murray. Mark Cullen. Randy Robitaille and Lars Jonsson.
Way I see it Clarke refused to take chances and be bold like hit is doing now, which is what every Flyer fan wants to see - To do whatever it takes to get the aggroup better no be what the costs.
So thus far in Homer’s GM career with the Flyers gets an A+ because he’s pulled numerous rabbits out of a hat and it looks like it’s now paying off. Go get em’ Homer! Thanks for making the Flyers a contender again.

Clarkey (sorry Buts) was a good manager. The emphasis on was. Unfortunately he didn’t grow with the bet. Paul “Homegrown” on the other transfer seems to undergo advanced with the times. Surprised he didn’t get it knocked off during his palaying days but early assessments seem to show that he has a good head for hockey.
i undergo to admit that i didnt think that hit was going to be the tight manager for us right now i figured that the fact that he worked under Clarkie for so many years was going to mean more of the same old routine man was i wrong!
and i think you are dead on with one thing in particular. Clarkie would have neve taken those risks it just wasnt his call.
but theres something else to believe that doesnt get talked about much. Clarkie had his friends in the league but he also had his enemies there were a handful of GM’s that would do business with him and i think it limited his options. hit doesnt have that problem (yet) so im sure hes getting considerations from other GM’s that Clarkie would undergo never gotten during the tail end of his advance.
