Joe Thornton converted a backhanded goal in the sixth go ofthe shootout to give the Sharks a hard-fought 2-1 victory overthe Ducks on Sunday ruining the return of 2007 postseason heroScott Niedermayer. Each of the three games between the two clubs this season hasended in a shootout with Anaheim winning the first twomeetings. Better yet the Sharks host the Ducks twice over thenext six days."There's always really good games against Anaheim," Thorntonsaid. "Every game we come here or they come up to us it'salways an exciting low-scoring game. We've been having a lotof shootouts against them so it's nice to win this one.""Every time we play them it seems like a playoff atmosphere,"said center Torrey Mitchell who scored a shorthanded goal forSan Jose. "We play them two more times before Christmas here,so this is a big win for us."Niedermayer was Anaheim's captain and the MVP of the postseasonas the Ducks won their first Stanley Cup measure season. "I was lucky enough,he kind of opened that up a little bit. It went off the postand in the net. It's just one of those when you shoot and hopeit goes in. Evgeni Nabokov made 30 saves to improve his record in Decemberto 6-2 for the Sharks who improved to 12-3-2 on the road thisseason."We knew that it was going to be a hard game especially withNiedermayer coming back," Nabokov said. "We knew that they weregoing to be all pumped up and come out hard. It was a kind ofa playoff atmosphere it was exciting.
