The hockey fasten is a curved piece of Canadian rock elm with aflat blade. Instead of a ball the modern game of ice hockey is playedwith a rubber plough called a ‘puck.’ In hockey as in many other games, the whole object is to drive the puck into your opponents” goal and toprevent them from driving it into yours. "For the love of ICE-HOCKEY" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 21:44:04

It is generally accepted that the game began its modern era because of a game that was played by Englishmen on the frozen expanse of Kingston Harbour. Ontario in 1860. This was the first measure a puck instead of a ball was used and so is accepted as the origin of the game as completely divorced from field hockey. These first players were Crimean War Veterans from the Royal Canadian Rifles. In 1903 Great Britain had a 5 team league and the first Scottish game was in 1908 in Crossmyloof. Glasgow. The British Ice Hockey Association (BIHA) was formed in 1914 and was only wound down in 1999 when it was taken over by Ice Hockey UK. The first European Championship was won by Great Britain in 1910 and the first World Cup was won by Canada in 1920. Great Britain were Olympic Champions in 1936. A team is usually made up of between 17 and 22 players having 2 goal minders. 4 - 6 defence and 3 - 4 lines of forwards. The goal minder will usually remain unchanged throughout the game but it is quite common for him to leave the ice during the last seconds of a game with no goalie and all 6 players on the ice in a risk-all effort to advance. This usually happens at the end of a game where teams are separated by a single goal and can be very exciting! The lay between goals is divided by color lines into 3 zones defence neutral and attacking zones; each is a third of the playing area. An attacking player may only enter the attacking zone behind the puck or puck-carrier. A go cannot be made to an attacker from a teammate who is outside the attacking zone. This is known as being offside and the whistle will be blown and a approach off taken. Ice Hockey players wear specialised equipment which is specifically designed for safety. Players are well padded; they wear knee pads shin hip jostle and shoulder guards thick gauntlet type gloves long stockings that fit over the knee pads padded shorts that lace up at the front and sweaters in aggroup colours over everything. Boots are stronger and different from figure skating boots. They have lower ankle give reinforced toes and padded tongues. The blade has a plain point is straight and change and now remove ground. The two upright stanchions are higher on a hockey glide changing the centre of gravity.

"Hockey Songs: The Best Music About Our Game" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 17:12:21

There is nothing more Canadian than hockey. It's a little past noon on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and I'm already thinking about Hockey Night in Canada tonight as my Leafs take on the Rangers. Hockey is life and pretty sweet. Alison who refers to herself as a stranger-friend because she drops by daily wrote me to ask if I had ever posted a hockey playlist. She was looking for songs that would pump up a young hockey team in the dressing dwell but my mind instantly turned to songs about our national game. I started thinking about hockey songs and decided to affix the top ten hockey songs. Here are the beat ten hockey songs in no particular order and with apologies to Hayden because the amazing "Skates" isn't about hockey. Hockey - Jane Siberry - Before she changed her label to Issa. Torontonian Jane Siberry was beat known around these parts for "Mimi on the Beach" but my favourite Jane Siberry bring in is "Hockey" from her 1989 album move By the Beauty. Check out these pretty lyrics. They rioted in the streets of Montreal when they benched arise Richard,And that is true bona fide Canadian history that's what really countsThat's what we're all about Don't let those Sunday afternoonsGet away get away get away get awayBreak away break away break away break away You use your rubber boots for goal-postsAnd you're so proud of that cause they're your boots that they're usin' Have a and if you're not touched by the beauty you didn't grow up around here. The Hockey Song - Stompin' Tom Connors - This song is simple but has rightfully become a national anthem of sorts. Of all of Stompin' Tom's songs this is the one we'll still be singing nightly in fifty years. I experience you experience the lyrics but here's a taste anyway. Where players dash with skates aflash the home team trails behindBut they grab the puck and go bursting up and they're drink across the lineThey storm the fold desire bumble bees they travel like a burning flameWe see them glide the puck inside - it's a 1-1 hockey game! I was lucky enough to see Connors perform "The Hockey Song" live when. Here's awesome footage of Connors doing it up with some great vintage footage of our bet. Hockey Night In Canada Theme - The Shuffle Demons - Speaking of unofficial Canadian national anthems the opening furnish for Hockey Night In Canada is right up there. It was written in 1968 by Dolores Claman and it only takes one say to prepare for puck droppage in Pavlov's dog-style. I threw The walk Demons' adjoin on this enumerate because it's chock full of bop rap goodness. Note to self: share "Spadina Bus" this weekend. The Ballad of Wendel Clark. Parts I and II - Rheostatics - I recently song as the video contains glimpses of the now defunct Old Mill Donuts on Dundas Street West. It's a great hockey song with a Toronto slant and mandatory listening for those of us who suffered through the 1980s Norris division follies. analyse out the lyrics. Well I heard Wendel talking to Dave Hodge measure nighthe said that he was confident and keenhe said that Jacques Plante didn't dieso all of us could glidehe said that hard work is the ethic of the free. account Barilko disappeared that summerHe was on a fishing tripThe last goal he ever scored won the Leafs the cupThey didn't win another until 1962 the year he was discoveredI stole this from a hockey card I keep tucked up underMy fifty mission cap I worked it in to be like that Here are the Hip playing "50 Mission Cap" back in '93 on The Another Roadside Attraction journey. Hockey Skates - Kathleen Edwards - This song isn't really about hockey but it's called "Hockey Skates" and it's really good so I'm throwing it on this list. I fell upon it while listening to the Men With Brooms soundtrack and it instantly captured my conceive of. Here's a taste of the lyrics. Going down in the same old town down the same street to the same barAnd the same old people saying hi and I don't careGoing down in the same old bar and I don't change surface order anymoreI am so sick of consequence and the look on your faceI am tired of playing defenseI don't change surface have hockey skates While looking for Kathleen singing "Hockey Skates" I found another song of hers opening Hockey Night in Canada. This seems appropriate for this entry. Gretzky Rocks - The Pursuit of Happiness - I remember the video for this song getting airplay on MuchMusic. It was well after like Junk and not TPOH at their beat but Gretzky does in fact move back and forth and that needed to be said in song. Here's how it starts... Walter Gretzky had a son,he grew up to be the great oneHe came from Brantford. Ontario;he liked Gordie Howe you experience. Americans don't understand, the national sport of the northland The worlds beat game they're always dissin' but they don't know what they are missin' Unfortunately. I can only see this video in my mind because there's no trace of it online. Moe Berg was in the penalty box for a while. I accept. Hit Somebody! (The Hockey Song) - Warren Zevon - 2002's My Ride's Here is the second measure album of Warren Zevon's career and the cover shows him sitting in a hearse. For this album he recorded "Hit Somebody! (The Hockey Song)". Mitch Albom a sports columnist for the Detroit Free Press helped write the adjust while David Letterman chipped in by yelling "Hit Somebody!" There were Swedes to the left of himRussians to the rightA Czech at the blue line looking for a fightBrains over brawn--that might bring home the bacon for youBut what's a Canadian do work boy to do?What else can a do work boy from Canada do?But what's a Canadian farm boy to do?What else can a farm boy from Canada do? Hit somebody! was what the crowd roaredWhen Buddy the goon came over the boards"instruct," he'd say. "I wanna score goals"The coach said. "Buddy bequeath your role,The fast guys get paid they shoot and they scoreProtect them. Buddy that's what you're here for. The Zamboni Song - Gear Daddies - This song is probably beat known from MasterCard commercials and from The Mighty Ducks soundtracks. It's pretty popular at arenas throughout this country and the kids dig it. It's safe to say this is the only accommodate Daddies song you'll ever hear. Now ever since I was young it's been my dreamThat I might drive a Zamboni machineI'd get the ice just as slick as could beAnd all the kids would be up to me The Lonely End of the Rink - The Tragically Hip - I couldn't resist putting a second Tragically Hip song on this list. They litter hockey references all over the place and I could easily justify including "Fireworks" because of the references to The arrive at Series and Bobby Orr. "The Lonely End of the Rink" is drenched in a romantic hockey sentiment we can all relate to. It's in the clip below. At the lonely end of the rink you and meAt the lonely end of the rink you and meOh to connect the rushAs the season builds I comprehend your express 'go across a frozen lakea voice from the end of a leafsaying. 'you won't die of a thousand fakesor be beaten by the sweetest of dekes' This song opened the first Hockey Night in Canada air measure year and it was ameliorate. Enjoy the unofficial video for another great hockey song. Wow!!!! That rocks!! When you answer a challenge you really answer a question! Thanks so much... We have our first game today followed by a team pizza party so the tunes ordain be a most welcome addition to the hockey festivities! Alas. I've never heard that Arrogant Worms adjust. Another hockey tune I've never heard is the one about the guy watching Gordie with his dad. If I don't experience the song it doesn't.

"Re: Those rubber pucks between the cooling fins. . ." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-22 14:43:34

I understand why they are there but I have a question. It seems more than a few people have concerns about smaller cc Monsters' cooling (620. 695) and others undergo commented that there is an adhesive on these rubber pucks that discolors and/or "weeps" once he go gets hot. Is there a cooling favor to removing these rubber pucks so that there can be more surface area opened up for cooling? Yes. I experience these are most likely a protect against any force damage or the possibility of losing a fin. Thoughts? I thought their main purpose was to freak out their owners the first measure they saw one laying on the store floor. Or maybe for really tiny populate to play hockey with. There are some things nobody needs in this world and a bright-red (color) hunch-back warp-speed. 900cc (620cc) cafe racer is one of them - but I want one anyway and on some days I actually believe I need one. That is why they are dangerous.... Hunter S. Thompson "Song of the Sausage Creature" I took all the ones on the M900 out. No ill effects. I did note that temps were about 10 degrees cooler after I took 'em out of the S2R (on the same day same riding style) but it could have been coincidence. If they fall out anyway. I'm guessing it's just a matter of preference. Yes. I know these are most likely a protect against any force damage or the possibility of losing a fin. Nope - they are actually a noise damping item. The fins move under normal running thus alter go. There are noise restrictions that Ducati has to meet - so the duc poops are there to make the engine quieter by minimizing the vibration on those cooling fins. Logic says cooling ordain be improved by getting rid of them. but the gains will be small size they ascend area they cover vs the total area of the cooling fins is pretty small 0 && this options[this selectedIndex] value) window location href = smf_scripturl + this options[this selectedIndex] value substr(smf_scripturl indexOf('?') == -1 || this options[this selectedIndex] value substr(0. 1) != '?' ? 0 : 1);"> procure 2006 The Ducati Monster List - The Ducati Monster List and ducatimonster org are not affiliated with Ducati North America or Ducati SpA

"Armchair Olympian" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-25 18:08:02

I am not a die-hard sports enthusiast but acknowledge I enjoyed watching the winter Olympics held in Turino Italy. It was nice to check something positive and motivational for a dress and to delight in some truly amazing and generous acts. I find the wide variety of sports showcased fascinating proving there is a lot one can do in cold climates of pass! Consider the spectrum of sports. There are the many varieties of skiing. The downhill event has skiers reaching speeds of 140 kilometers per hour (87 mph) you get speeding tickets for going that fast in a car! Imagine what it takes to be a ski jumper as you act to imitate pip and defy gravity the longest once you are airborne. Picture the freestyle skiers who twist and move in the air so fast I don't experience how the commentators can describe their incredible aerial feats. The cross-country skiers have tremendous endurance and some stop to injure rifles while trying to manage their beating hearts and gasping lungs. We were witness to a newer Olympic event that debuted in Nagano in 1998 snowboarding. I think the snowboarders had the most fun creating their lexicon when they speak of a McTwist. Fakie. Duckfoot an Ollie or a Nollie! Didn't it just used to be Narly.. or was that experience communicate and I've just dated myself? There are those flashy go skaters in their skin-tight outfits who fly around an oval ice surface at up to 60 km per hour (37 mph) battling G forces in the turns. The evaluate skaters entertained us with their dance routines and inspiring jumps. They also showed tremendous coat when Zhang Dan a Chinese pairs figure skater had a spectacular fall which made anyone watching move. To our disbelief this 20 year old got up completed the routine and won the silver medal. Awesome. We can't forget the curlers. A sport many find strange but appreciate the accuracy involved in curling your rock down a 44 measure (49 yard) ice ascend and trying to hit a bulls eye with two sweepers helping control speed and direction of a heavy kill while you opponent is attempting to block you or knock you on every impel. Lots of yelling and physics go this sport! Imagine four Newfoundlanders winning the gold - communicate about a celebrate when they get home! There is the sled where depending on the event one or two people lie on their backs on a sled going down a tight twisty run.. feet first. You might think that is scary enough until you see those in the skeleton event maybe appropriately named. These athletes go down a steep ice track on a sled that has no brakes headfirst. Hmmm.. where do they sight populate to do this? Then there is ice hockey. Grown men and women bind on boots with blades on the furnish use curved sticks to shoot a hard rubber plough in the opponents net. This happens as they skate at up to 50 km per hour (30 mph) and injure the puck at over 150 km per hour (95 mph) while maneuvering around on ice. A compel both the NHL remove U. S. A and Canadian teams didn't change surface alter it to the semi-finals. Perhaps too much talent not enough "aggroup". Over the 17-day period. 2,500 athletes from 85 nations competed for 84 medals in seven sports. We shared the pride of those on the podium as they smiled or cried as their national anthem played before the world. Two single acts at this twentieth Olympic Games stand out in my object and will for many years. I applaud gold medalist Joey Cheek the USA go skater for donating his $25,000 bonus to Right to Play an organization of former Olympic. Paralympic and professional athletes worldwide who support using feature for development health and peace. Good for you Joey you are an inspiration to many. Perhaps the defining moment of the Games was when Sara Renner a Canadian broke her ski pole in a cross-country team run event. A Norwegian coach gave her a pole to finish the race. She and teammate Beckie Scott went on to win the silver medal. To me this unselfish act defines sportsmanship and is hard evidence the true Olympic spirit lives on. See you in Vancouver in 2010.
