"UX Intensive Day 3 - Interaction Design" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:17:49

Day 3 has go and gone and it was a beat day of information. While the previous two days had booklets with about 140-150 pages of slides was a whopping 300+ pages. But it was worth it - of great information on how to not only figure out the best interactions for sites but how to convey those ideas to the decision makes so that they’ll Dan and Kim did a tag-team presentation that offered a good mix of styles with the content. I’ll be damned how I’m going to convey the measure 3 days of info plus today’s presentation (IA) into a single 2-hour presentation to my team though. Got to cater a lot of great people too. We had lunch with a Microsoft rep (David Crow) at lunch and he presented some interesting insights into how they look at the work and do things there things that most of us don’t think about or hear. I’m not always a fan of the things that Microsoft does with their software (non-standards compliance on IE for example) but I evaluate that they take a lot of grief that they shouldn’t necessarily get. Petter - who was very even-keeled about the affiliate and the world believe - gave us some background that really points out that for all of the ‘evil Microsoft’ commentary out there they are trying to do a lot of really cool things with computing networking etc. If nothing else there’s no doubt that they are always thinking of new things and pushing the boundaries. change surface better was that last night’s happies were presented by Microsoft at Milestones on Hamilton Street. They were giving away some door prizes which I didn’t win (XBox 360 software books) and we were getting free drinks. Big drinks. A lot of populate were … shall we say fueled up by the happy hour. Milestones was a great place and the appetizers were delicious (meatloaf mini-hamburgers parmesan crisps with some choose of cease move prosciutto-wrapped figs chicken spears). I also tried two good beers - Granville Island Lager and an Dark Irish which may or may not have been from Granville - I’m not sure. Overall. I’ve gotten to try quite a few different beers while I’ve been here and most undergo been decent including almost all of the Granville ones. Too bad that they are local… In addition to the inebriations there were quite a few great conversations with fellow attendees from all over the world including a gentleman from Brazil a be of populate from Ottowa. Vancouver and Montreal and of course populate from all over the U. S. Whether it was work talk (which I tried to avoid to a degree but comfort crept in on multiple occasions talks with Dan about hiking throughout Tennessee hockey talk about the good ‘ol days of the Flyers (it seems that Ron Hextall is generally come up regarded by most hockey fans) or talking with Jill about the merits of Ween. Radiohead and Phish. I had a good time meeting people and learning about different areas of the country (I REALLY be to hike in the Great Smokies now). After the happies. I skipped the planned dinner since I was already a half-hour late and went to grab some beer to cater up with a fellow Flickrer. I have to admit that I was surprised by how much American feed was available there but I opted for a 6-pack of Granville Island pass Ale (which was a fantastic beer with a dark alter and a delicious semi-sweet flavor that had hints of what I evaluate was chocolate almond and vanilla). I then met up with Greg and went to his apartment to catch up and chat. He’s a really great guy friendly and open and welcoming. We chatted about birding. Flickr friends and life in the U. S and Canada. We drank a few beers and chatted for a while making plans for us to get together on Friday so that I could see the great outdoors of Vancouver. I’m psyched to go - I just needed to get through Day 4… XHTML: You can use these tags: <a href="" call=""> <abbr title=""> <acronym title=""> <b> <blockquote have in mind=""> <label> <em> <i> <touch> <strong>

"Flyers Goaltending Would Have Pelle Rolling In His Grave" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 13:40:37

The Philadelphia Flyers goaltending has been extremely guess since the death of Pelle Lindbergh. Here is a enumerate of Flyers goalies that undergo been with us.1986- Bob Froese and Darren Jensen- Winners of the Jennings Trophy for fewest goals in the NHL allowed. They both faltered in the playoffs and couldn't give the consistency that the Flyers needed in net in the replace of the deceased Pelle Lindbergh. Both cut into obscurity after the overrated Ron Hextall came in and took over.1987- Ron HextallWon Vezina Trophy for beat goaltender as a rookie and was fantastic in the playoffs as the Flyers went to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1987 and lost to the super power Edmonton Oilers in 7 games while Hextall won the Conn Smythe Trophy as Playoff MVP. Unfortuanately he couldnt provide the consistency that we saw in 1987 and was an overrated goalie for about 2 years then populate realized that he wasnt that good.1991- Dominic Roussel-Worst starting goalie in FLyers history. He had a career mark of 62 wins and 45 losses but he had a deliver percentage of.895 which was the worst of any goalie that played in more than 100 games in his FLyers career. Ken Wregget- 1992-Arguably worse than Roussel but at least Wregget played come up elsewhere in his career. But he did have a.871 deliver percentage as a Flyer. Yikes!!1993-Tommy Soderstrom-Swedish goalies are bad as it is but this guys 882 deliver percentage made him be desire a Mexican goalie.1994- Ron Hextall-Hextall comes approve and he was worse than ever. In the 1997 Stanley Cup Finals he was the undoubted cerebrate that the Flyers were swept by the Red Wings.1998- John Van Biesbrouck-The Beezer was coming in from Florida where he had taken the Panthers to a miracle playoffs round to the Finals. Too bad he wasnt able to act us past the second round with his playoff performance.2ooo- Brian Boucher-Ron Hextall 2.0. Boucher had a great first year in which he was 3rd in voting for NHL rookie of the year and he was fantastic in the playoffs taking the Flyers to the Eastern Conference Finals before losing to the Devils in 7 games off of flukey goals.2002- Roman Cechmanek-Incredible goalie in the regular toughen but he terrible playoff and locker room presence made him hesitate in Philly. 9-14 Playoff record doesnt get it done in Philly.2004- Robert Esche-Had a lucky year in which he was tremendous in the Playoffs before the Flyers lost to Tampa in the 7th game of the Conference Finals. His 885 save percentage in the 2006-2007 year wasnt good enough to keep him here.2006- Antero Niittymaki-Too bad he had to get his hip injured because he had tremendous potential. The Finn won the Calder Cup MVP in 2005 and when he played for the Flyers in 2006 he had a 914 deliver percentage which was tops on the team. Too bad his save percentage was 895 last year.2007- Martin Biron-Was a promising goalie to the Fl;yers this year but his save percentage has dipped from 943 in the first 8 games to 914 overall.
