"My Week in Review" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-12-19 16:33:13

Although I undergo not complied with my own I have not really posted anything with much thought or effort. I certainly couldn't stop posting for Adoption Month. That would just be wrong. When I simply could not let it go unmentioned. I really need some help with ideas for some so I had to post that too... I need help people,!What I haven't done is affix much about the family or what has been going on with us. November 9th marked the 6th month anniversary of our sweet little Mecchi coming domiciliate. I am planning to do a post on that when I get some time. Meechi was sick all last week. His throat was so sore that he wouldn't eat and barely drank anything. He is on feeling better. Now he is guzzling drinks and eating like a champ. It is a relief for us all because that boy is CRANKY when he doesn't feel good. Shy was in a compete at school this past Thursday called The British Are Coming. It was really more of a variety show than an actual compete. I would affix pictures but they are awful. I can not get a good picture in that auditorium. I may decided to affix one or two of the least cruddy shots. She was so cute as the Chesier Cat from Alice In Wonderland and did a great job. She perfected a British accent and change surface sang the evince!! She had a couple of solos and sang beautifully. She does get that from me. She open out a couple of days ago that she made All City Choir for middle educate. That had her super hyped. Unfortunately a couple of her grades in the classes that matter a little more than choir and music theater (to me and for real life but not to her) have dropped. Because of her love of the drama classes I threatened to not let her take any of them next year if her grades don't go back up in math and language arts. It is not an idle threat either... I follow through if I have to. I hope her desire to act those classes makes her change state up and focus a bit more on the math and language arts. Bucky is still. His grades are top notch as always. He had to stay after school the other day because he is on the student council and they were having a sucker sale after educate. They did a fundraiser for United Way a couple weeks ago. On Monday kids brought penny's to school on Tuesday it was nickels and so on as the week went by. He and the other student council kids got to count all the dress from that. Basically I think the educate is using the student council members as free fight from the sounds of it. Bucky has had a couple of hockey games so far this season. His team has lost both games. He doesn't really mind though he has fun and he is a great sport. I love to watch him play. He isn't the best kid out there but he is always smiling and having a great time. He learned a valuable lesson yesterday.. to play ball and skate.. he brought his roller blades (oh forgive me... I convey Mission inline hockey skates. I'll be struck drink if I dare call them roller blades) and forgot his pads and helmet. Yes. I let him skate anyway ( i know.. bad mom). He had his hockey fasten and wanted to practice on the concrete "rink" they have at the park. He cut down about 4 times and his knees took a beating. He did say that he would remember his pads from now on because "that really hurt". The funniest part of the day was the fact that he forgot to bring a puck or a roll and had to search the car for something he could use instead. He ended up looking in Meechi's bag of toys and came up with a plastic waffle from a toy food set. It was cracking me up to see that waffle flying across the rink and getting shot into the net. Shy was standing in front of the net claiming she was the goalie. Again no pads or anything. I warned her she could get hurt and she decided to take the risk. (sometimes you just have to let them learn it for themselves the hard way!) I was work with Meechi and didn't see it come about but I heard from behind me "Ouch" coming from Shy which was followed by Bucky laughing and shouting "you got waffled". She was book and they were both laughing. It was a fun end to the week. Oh.. and as far as getting it together at domiciliate: my room is in order i got the hall confine organized and both the older kids got their rooms alter. Actually not shove everything in a command or under a delay clean... Glad to hear you're getting in some fun family time! The 'You got waffled!' line cracked me up : ) You sure have some sweet kiddos! So sorry to comprehend little Meechi has been so egest but I'm glad he's feeling better. Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!P. S. I finally got a chance to go away in reading your adoption blog... I started with month one - I think I'll work on reading it in request. I'm already overwhelmed by what you went through! Life With Meechi is my blog where I post about living with Meechi's Sensory Processing Disorder irrational fears social anxiety and the possibility of an ASD diagnosis. Roller Coaster Ride to Kazakhstan chronicles our adoption jaunt. This blog is private but I am willing to invite readers interested in Kazakhstan adoption as long as I can affirm you have no ties to AIP.

"High Standards and Hypocrisy: Avoiding the Trap of a Divided Life" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-18 05:14:02

But nothing covered up isWhich shall not be uncovered,Nor hiddenWhich shall not be known;Wherefore whatever in the darkness ye said,In the light shall be heard; And what in the ear ye spoke in chambers,Shall be proclaimed upon housetops.(Luke 12:2-3. The Englishman's Greek New Testament)If in life you do anything differently than other people--if you hold to higher standards or pursue unusual interests or dare to walk the road less-traveled--you have probably felt the peculiar tension that comes of sharing an hour or more with someone whose opinions about your way of life differ from yours. Sometimes such interaction is positive; sometimes it is a powder keg with all sorts of dangerous contingencies should it explode. So it was with interest I saw that Jesus when He was speaking to a crowd was invited to dine with a Pharisee--and that He accepted. To eat with someone is to make yourself vulnerable to them: you set yourself on intimacy for a period of time. Trouble reared its head quickly enough. As they sat down to dinner the Pharisee marveled--out loud perhaps--that Jesus had not observed the ritual of washing before dinner. Expectations flared to ugly prominence: the Pharisee knew that Jesus was a religious teacher and miracle-worker therefore he ascribed to Him a whole set of outward behaviours which in the opinion of the religious leaders bespoke righteousness. In His response. Jesus did not exactly pull any punches. Did the Pharisee think Him unclean because He had failed to cleanse His hands? He was a fool.. a hidden tomb.. a man upon whom woe would soon come. "Did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also?" Jesus asked. Why then do you concern yourself with cleaning the outside when your heart is still filthy?"But woe unto you. Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done and not to leave the other undone. Woe unto you. Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues and greetings in the markets. Woe unto you scribes and Pharisees hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not and the men that walk over them are not aware of them."The dinner had sharp consequences. Not only the Pharisee but many other influential men who were present took high offense at Jesus' words. From then on. Luke records they "lay wait for him," deliberately provoking Him again and again; seeking for some word they could use to destroy Him. But Jesus had more to say: this time to His disciples. The Pharisees were men who walked a different road ostensibly following after God. Jesus' disciples were also choosing an unusual road and were susceptible to the same traps that had taken the religious leaders. Jesus gathered His disciples around Him and said. "Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees which is hypocrisy. For there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed; neither hid that shall not be known. Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops. And I say unto you my friends. Be not afraid of them that kill the body and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea. I say unto you. Fear him."Leaven was an old picture of sin: it is the little thing that ruins the whole. Hypocrisy had ruined the Pharisees and Jesus warned His disciples not to let it enter into their lives. It is a warning just as pertinent to us today: everyone who chooses to walk an unusual road will be vulnerable to the snare of hypocrisy. Just what is hypocrisy? Put simply hypocrisy is the loss of the heart. Look at the example Jesus used in the house of the Pharisees. The law commanded Israel to tithe their income and the Pharisees did this--scrupulously. In fact they tithed even the tiniest parts of their income: spices. This outward ritual had become extremely important to them. They measured their own spirituality by it and by things like washing their hands before meals. But somewhere they had lost the heart of the law. They "passed over judgment and the love of God." They did not care for the poor with the rest of their riches nor did they love God at all. Rather they loved the accolades of men and the smug sense of their own righteousness. They had lost heart; every true thing in them had died; and they remained as white-washed tombs. This is the snare of hypocrisy. Attending only to the outward they could never become pure. Attending only to the expectations of men they could never see God. What causes hypocrisy?Hypocrisy is chiefly born of response to others. In some cases as Jesus pointed out when He accused the Pharisees of "loving the uppermost seat and greetings in the market," it comes of desiring man's respect. We love to be looked up to; others tell us we are holy and we partially believe them. And so we begin to tune our behaviour in order to draw a certain sound that will make others take note. Hypocrisy is often born of judgement. We may not start out as judgemental people: if we are living differently we will need to defend our behaviour to examine it to solidify our convictions and seek God wholly. The tragedy comes when our convictions turn into condemnations: when we turn our eyes from God to men. Before long our lives are all about our convictions; the whole point of living is to uphold an outward standard. The heart is lost and before long we no longer love mercy or judgement or God Himself--we love only our shiny outer shells. Finally hypocrisy is born of fear. We often view hypocrisy as characterized by speaking one thing and doing another; sometimes it is a matter of holding silent and letting our actions proclaim false allegiances. Jesus' boldness--His absolute lack of hypocrisy--in the Pharisee's house brought Him into serious trouble. Thus. He urged His disciples not to fear those whose power is only temporal but to live their lives in relation to Him who is eternal. If we truly live what is in our hearts we may face persecution but it is not worth backing out. In any case. Jesus tells us nothing is truly hidden. We may think we are keeping ourselves safe but what we have spoken in the ear will be proclaimed on the housetops one day. We may think conversely that we are keeping up a beautiful image: but the sham will be uncovered. A terrifying prospect for those whose lives are marked by inconsistency. If I would not be a hypocrite. I must keep my heart alive. I must seek God and love Him and confess my sins: walk in the light as He is in the light. When my walk comes out of my heart. I will live a consistent life--not a perfect one not one without failures and sins--but one that is ultimately consistent with my love for God. I will fear God and learn to fear man less with every day. I write about hypocrisy because I like the Pharisees and like Jesus' fledgling disciples am so susceptible to it. God has called me to forge out a life that is different from others that stands in contrast with so much in our culture. And the danger is ever-present that I will fixate on the various responses of men and somewhere the heart will be lost. I don't date. I don't drink. I don't watch TV; I strive to make good use of my gifts; I look talk and act differently than most girls my age. There are days when I wake up and realize that I have been tithing the smallest parts of my life and passing over mercy over judgement--over love. God's blessings on you my whole-hearted companions; may you overcome your fears in Him and press on in love for the God who bought you.* * *The story and verses in this article are found in Luke 11:37-54 and 12:1-5. By the end of the day the table was often buried in all my projects. I'm lucky my parents tolerated my tendency to spread out. "Retire Early - A Student's Guide" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 17:22:27

If you are a high educate or college student and you experience corporate life isnt for you. I will back up you plan your flee from the rat go. You need to set your sights on at least a $1 million nest egg. The first thing you need to do is change state a serious saver. You do not need expensive wheels or rims for your car. You do not need to alter outrageous purchases to impress people. You need to become a serious saver. You need an emergency fund a Roth IRA and maybe a Health Savings be (HSA). You ordain not leave office early unless you can alter yourself save money. So get started! If you are comfort living at home you need to put aside the money you alter that would be going to rent and utilities and deliver and drop it. We are talking $700 a month here. Many populate in their thirties and forties wish they could put away $700 a month. If you cannot save $700 a month deliver what do can. I do not care if all you can collect is $50 a month. Save and do not get in debt. Your income ordain probably go up in time. During the pass and on your weekends you ordain want a job. What kind of job should you bear on for? Something that gives you good experience or something that pays better than average wages or something you love or think you would like. Also apply for internships. Do not overlook internships through your high school or college. Make sure your major is in a field that pays excellent wages. A liberal arts degree does not get you much credibility. But a liberal arts degree will leave you making student loan payments for 10 or 20 years money that could be going in a Roth IRA. In your forbear measure hit the books skills. hit the books computer software programs computer programming foreign languages sales skills accounting bookkeeping or hit the books to use a switchboard. The enumerate of useful skills goes on and on. Take useful courses in educate. Do not be afraid of a tough class. Do not be afraid to take the time to hit the books a skill. You be to hit the books all the skills you can to be competitive in the workforce. I should add that schmoozing is an overrated skill. If you be to make more money than the average person you need your own business. Running your own business is harder than most jobs but the potential for income and the experience you ordain obtain are up there. Remember that many large companies were started in dorm rooms and in garages and spare bedrooms. It is adjust that 90% of businesses will fail in the first few years but please do not let this fact deter you from being an entrepreneur. Now the fun move: learn about investments. construe classic investment texts. construe investment books written by and recommended by excellent investors. be away from fly by night gurus; stick with names like Warren Buffet. Peter kill. Frederick Kobrick. Jim Cramer and David and Tom Gardner. Read the protect Street Journal. The WSJ had a student discount when I was in educate. hit the books how to care for and pick stocks. hit the books to bring home the bacon a portfolio. act a paper or an online portfolio and track it. act in a stock market tournament and try out your investment ideas.

"Pucking it out there" posted by ~Ray

Now to me hockey is something played on a muddy field in short skirts while absolutely freezing. Outdoor aggroup sports are a rite of passage for all British school kids and I always use to compete defense. I never dreamed of ice hockey when I was a kid so when I came to California there it was waiting eminently more interesting than football or baseball (or cricket). Ice hockey is fascinating to watch. The passed week has probably been one of my most disapointing weeks of the year. On Saturday. I pretty much entangle like egest on my roller hockey skates. I couldn't move the way I wanted. I kept losing energy during the game and I had climb spasms in one of them. I might be getting real old real fast. I don't know. I came into that bet thinking that I'd turn the world on blast by scoring goals after goals but I left thinking that maybe I'm just not good at Roller Hockey anymore...... despite only scoring once. I did manage to identify myself by my defensive blocking abilites. Having no luck playing send. I decided to act a come about and played defense which turned out to be a positive act. Instead of forcing plays. I was able to sit back and take advantage of let go pucks and when the opportunity came for me to act the puck I was able to. Still. I wasn't able to showcase my stick handling prowess. I did manage a couple of end to end rushes but I screwed them up by shooting wide in one and losing the puck towards the end of the go in the other. Oh well anyway sitting back on D there was an instance where the other team kept the puck on our side of the net and they kept pressuring us by shooting from everywhere. I think I went down on my side and blocked about three shots from point keep. I was just doing what I could at the measure to back up out and after played had stopped I got high fives from everyone on my line. I had the head of the other team go up to me from the other end telling me with enthusiasm how he appreciates that I play the game the way its supposed to be played kept giving me pats and high fives telling me it was awesome. I had the goalie doing the same...... it was nice to get some kind of approval and when our line was back out there and a new line mate opted to played defense he backed drink when he saw me and said that he'll play send because I'm a really good defenseman....(that sounded weird since in the past. I was always known as the goal scorer) but I took it because it was again words of approval and a complement. I'm not sure if I want to compete again but maybe I might defense is pretty alter to compete. I think I'll undergo to work on my conditioning more and I have to get my confidence and killer instinct back since I felt like at times I was a little intimidated of my opponents. I kept giving up the puck by my own mistakes when I could undergo theoretically went around them had I kept calm. Anyway that's that. Yesterday. I met my motorcycle unify for another Sunday ride and I'll let you know about that tomorrow. I wasn't my usual all conquering fastest man self and it seems to be a trend for me lately... don't experience what the broach is with that. I anticipate I'm experiencing mental issues... lol I really don't experience. Anyway talk to you later.
