This is what college is about. Walking down the freezing streets with a assort of your best friends in minus thirty degree weather nose burning calf swelling and throbbing a smile on my face and a joy in my heart. Played hockey tonight-inter murals-and got a puck in the calf a slapshot in the calf it killed actually it STILL kills. But that's okay. I can limp and it'll be fine. It's really cold outside now the snow is so fluffy and dry here nothing like the clumpy warm come down at home. Snow that I'll be playing with in a good week when I get back domiciliate. It's crazy. On the one transfer it feels like I've been here for my entire life and on the other it feels like I just arrived; a scared little freshman just out of my nest! I have done really well in most of my classes and I am finished one of five of my final exams. Two more to go on Saturday; the two really hard ones then the last on Wednesday. The fifth is just a paper that I have to write and it wont be hard so I'm not sweating it :) On the one hand I can't wait to go home; to see my family and sleep in every day in my own bed back there; to have a car and drive and have access to any store haha; and REAL MALLS!! ANd to see my friends again and enjoy Christmas! On the other hand I know there's going to be a lot of drama going on at home and although there's drama here TOO. I'm just really not looking forward to it a lot. Plus I won't be seeing Braids over the holidays which makes me uuber sad :( I donno; I am and am not excited. I think my excitement overthrows my worry though so that's good. Plus I just need a break from all the crap going on here ya experience? I mean it's all really good most of the time but sometimes I just want to change surface up and cry or never get out of my bed again. Other times I just want to bite everyone's heads off and express them how it is or give them a taste of their own medicine. I suppose this newly open frustration goes hand in hand with my dampening my experience; when I was stubbornly prideful I didn't sight these problems because I took things into my own hands and stomped on anything in my way; wouldn't let anything get me down. With this newfound humility I'm discovering that being the 'bigger man' can be alot more painful than one might assume. Anyway that's enough from meI have to end these Christmas gifts before I go domiciliate Wednesday afternoon! :)xoxo Sara

"That?s Five For Fighting, Hanson! Slap Shot." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-04-08 04:10:10

Back in the early 80’s one of my neighborhood friends came from a family of big-time hockey fans and they all played in local leagues. The stories they told me left me scratching my head. Why would anyone in their right mind play such a game? I’d seen The Bruins on TV and while the NHL certainly had it’s overlap of dudes throwing drink the gloves these local games sounded like UFC on ice. I thought that maybe the reason that each game ended with a winning score of 1 or 2 goals was because these players spent more time on the ice beating the crap out of each other than shuffling the puck around. Then they took me with them one night to a minor league game where I saw the truth plain and simple. Each line-up consisted of a lot of french sounding names and by bet’s end everyone on the ice had blood on their uniforms and sticks. There were even a couple of spots where the boards and glass were left with disperse. From that measure on. I’ve spent a few seasons trying to get into hockey but it just won’t happen. I don’t experience why. I certainly undergo room in my life for another seasonal sport to connect the gap between football season and baseball but I just can’t be to get hip to it. For this lack of interest the hockey movie strike Shot has remained low on my enumerate of priority movies to see. I changed that over the pass when one of the telecommunicate channels I usually ignore ran a sweet marathon of middle-profile 70’s cult movies. Slap Shot was doubled up with a run of Smokey & The Bandit which I also took in. What a fool I’d been. Paul Newman plays Reggie Dunlop the player-coach of the Charlestown Chiefs a minor league aggroup from a rust-belt milltown that has fallen on hard times. If it’s not bad enough that the local employer the mill in challenge is about to change surface and bring a devastating wave of unemployment to the area the Chiefs are about to fold as well thanks to a myriad of factors but mostly because they suck. With bad attendance and the looming threat of change surface fewer ticket sales thanks to no local economy. Dunlop plants a story in the paper that the aggroup is in negotiations to be sold to investors from a retirement community in Florida but only if they can turn the reputation around. To make matters worse the team’s General Manager has recently brought in three idiots in the form of the The Hanson Brothers (Jeff. Steve and Jack) who remain benched for most of the toughen yet never seem to sight that they get no ice-time. I love sports movies. Particularly comedies. change surface though the add up sports comedy plays out like a carbon copy of The Bad News Bears it only goes to be that movie’s formula for success. Slap Shot is a much more adult version sporting a cast of well-meaning misfits and the antics necessary to warrant laughs and wins. There’s something honest and very real about strike Shot though. When Dunlop gets some dirt on an opposing goalie’s wife’s sexual preference he uses it to distract the goalie long enough for the Chief’s to score the bet’s winning goal. This sparks the beginning of an upturn in the Chief’s luck. It means playing alter which upsets Chief’s player Ned Braden who prefers playing “old time hockey” and keeping it clean. With Dunlop desperate to turn the team around this refusal results in Braden being benched. The introduction of the Hanson Brothers to the ice is another be entirely. Prior to the game. Slap Shot is a cute albeit foul-mouthed comedy about a shitty hockey team but once the unbelievably weird Hanson’s hit the ice the movie makes a sharp left turn and becomes a end inform show. The Hansons turn out to be psychopaths and most of their measure on the ice is spent beating anything that moves. Everything they do involves checking someone into the boards and then pummeling them. Dunlop is stunned and thinks this is the final attach in the coffin but The Hansons prove to be a real displace pleaser. The populate of Charlestown looking for escapist thrills and violence to vent the frustration of their mill closing begin showing up in droves and following the team around for games. The Hansons are the enduring approach of the movie. Fans of the movie love these guys and change surface though their dialog is limited their challenge on the ice is what keeps people coming back and with good reason they’re a god arouse rampage. Leading up to their innovate for the Chiefs they’re sold strictly as idiots. Their luggage is stuffed with toys and their mentality matches the contents of their bags. They’re witnessed early on wrapping their hands with tin foil for whatever purpose that serves. It’s obvious from the outset that they’re being built up for something but the display of be carnage when they finally act the ice is shocking. What could be the beat quality of these characters is that acting as The Hansons isn’t much of a be for any of them. Two of The Hansons. Steve and Jack were actual minor unify hockey playing brothers for whom the characters are based on. They’re an obvious exagerration but the scene where Steve charges into the stands after being hit by a set of keys is something that actually happened. Whether or not his bad eye-sight resulted in him pounding several people until he found the person who threw the keys is up for debate. The great characterization doesn’t end with The Hansons. They’re like Boba Fett a sidelines engrave that people seem to love in spite of limited screen measure. The real story is about Dunlop and the cost of his con. There’s a lot more going on in the story which draws out the runtime to an almost unnecessary degree. I also don’t think of comedy when I evaluate of Paul Newman but his engrave backed up with the natural rhythm of the locker room banter makes for lines as funny and quotable as Caddyshack (which I believe to be the pinnacle of comedic movies). Yes. Slap Shot is that funny. It may not be as zany but the comedy is top incise and the honesty of the struggling hockey setting manages to keep one foot in plausibility while keeping the other in the aforementioned Bad News Bears mold. The story takes it’s measure getting to where it’s going and tries its best to corral the multiple subplots which are a small stumbling block for the overall picture but the pace of the dialog rescues the movie from the peaks and valleys of the multiple plotlines. strike Shot is a worthwhile movie for everyone who doesn’t mind sustained salty language a comedy that fans of sports and feature movies will love and an absolute must-see for hockey fans. I’m quite surprised that it never achieved greater status than a sports cult flick.

There are two things I love better than food… one is called stick and the other is called puck.  Early in the morning while mommie is making caffe and ista is “still sleeping”. I forage thru my room for my stick and puck.  Walking quietly. I walk the accommodate for an opponent.  :play hockey me? . play hockey me? : I chant until someone gives in and compel the fasten in their transfer.  It starts off with a few passes wrist shots then the big slapper!  Now anyone who knows my aunt soopi knows that I DID NOT learn my slapshot from her.  I have a technical slapshot whereas soopi has one of those shots that amazes anyone who sees it “how does she do that?” as she reaches for the ceiling…but. I digress.  After I’ve warmed up then the bodychecking begins … hit hit hit…bodychecking.  If the dogs are involved there is alot of screaming scoring and jersey shaking.  Everything is a goal and every goal is exceed if I slide into it.  This can go on for hours and usually my opponent rotates thru mommie and ista cause I have more stamina than them… and when tota or sue n’ masha are over. I always suggest a game with them - NOONE has refused a game with the great FISHER hockey player.  I usually play in the house and my tota gave me a helmet and skates and my aunt chee gave me elbow pads which really go in handy now and I undergo a gazillion jerseys to decide from : canada canadiens canucks and senators.  Since getting my skates. I’ve even tried playing on REAL ice.  Granted this is generally in the create of crawling but also my mommie and ista hold me while I run on the ice.  I’ve gone from one net to the other and I really love to play inside the net with a puck hitting the displace over and over again!  Sometimes. I just stop and check mommie and ista skating around and around and I smile cause I experience that I’ll be skating circles around them someday.  But for now if I could only rest UP. I’d be come up on my way at the tender age of 2!!

if you undergo ever had a conceive of/ or a nightmare about the Canucks post it here. measure night I was dreaming about the change state learn in Victoria. I managed to get some killer seats and I was talking to the players over the glass. Pucks were flying everywhere and I managed to catch desire 5. Markus Naslund took a huge slap shot and it hit a backboard and then nailed me in the approach. Then some kid took the puck that hit my face. I got up and decked out the kid and took the puck out of his hands. (Yeah wierd) Then Markus Naslund came over and asked if I was okay and then invited me to go with him and the team for dinner. Then I woke up I was watching too many contend tapes and one night I had a conceive of Gino Odjick knocked some guys head clear off his shoulders, decapitated him... I think it was Kjell Samuelsson(dont ask me why)the ice man came out and scooped the continue off the ice with a shovel like they do in Joe Louis with the Ocopi no lie funny sh*t. i had a dream that it was my birthday and i was having a crappy day and them the doorbell rang and anticipate what it was my favorite players. lol.. I had a dream Luongo went behind the net to compete a puck but instead he flicked the puck up in the air and tried batting it up in the air several times (showboating). A Dallas feature picked the puck out of the air and scored on an alter net and I was furious with Luongo. I had a nightmare that the Canucks finally had a come about to create a great jersey and all they did was change the colours and put VANCOUVER in huge block letters above the old crappy corporate logo I am an Armchair GM and I own NHL 07 so I'm really good at trades and UFA's and could make a team win the cup. :PWhen you examine up "Luongo" on CDC you get over 12 pages of results!

"Same Old Jackets?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-12 02:51:45

You would think so if you only pay attention to the 3-1 loss. And this most certainly will be what the fickle fans of Columbus ordain be looking at when they comprehend the results. Judging by tonights attendance. I would be surprised if there were more than 5,000 populate in the stands the command population including those fans seated around me have already made up their minds that it's going to be another long year in CBJ country. The results may undergo been the same tonight but things are definately not the same. The color Jackets dominated this bet especially in the third period. They outshot the Predators 33-18 and had numerous chances to score but similar to the beginning of measure toughen they could not put the puck in the net. Pascal Leclaire let in all three goals two shorthanded and one on a screen shot. One of the shorthanded goals was because of miscommunication with his defenseman behind the net and the other on a breakaway. Dan Fritsche scored for the Jackets also shorthanded. The team never gave up until the final pierce and continued to compel the Preds without success. The end result was still a loss. A loss in pre-season is nothing to get alarmed about especially when you see the effort. I saw that effort tonight. But seeing David Vyborny laid out from a vicious hit from behind from Martin Erat was something to get alarmed about. Vyborny was taken to the hospital but preliminary reports on the post bet show although vague seemed positive. Losing Vyborny would be a tremendous blow to the aggroup. Chris Beech was also hurt during the bet with a reported displace body injury suffered when hit in the upper thigh with a slapshot on a clearing compete. He attempted to compete through it to no avail. Let's hope both players are ok and that they get back on the ice soon. Looking through the loss there were some positive signs. Because of the injuries several players made the most of their extra ice time. Jared Boll and Tom Sestito both played physical games with Boll involved in the only contend in the game. The line of Platt. Pineault and Lindstrom also put on some compel without being rewarded with scoring. There were some negative things to be concerned about on the cater play and penalty kill but those can be written off at this measure due to a lack of learn. I'll be concerned if the turn continues through the entire pre-season. Back to learn tomorrow and look send to the color Teams bet on Tuesday night against the BlackHawks. "Some Advice For New Fans" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-30 15:31:53

As a seasoned Thrashers fan with lots of games under my belt. I figure it's only fair to furnish approve to the fan community and overlap a few tips. I'm not going to furnish away all my secrets but I ordain try and back up people avoid frustration confusion and disappointment as best I can.1) PARKING. First of all be aware that paying for a spot in the Phillips parking be ordain usually set you back $20. If you control past the Arena there is a parking deck on your right that usually charges $10 which I would recommend for any women driving alone (this is what I do when I undergo to cater someone). Otherwise there are various lots for $5 or $10 within easy walking hold of the Arena. Now once upon a measure in a land far far away you could often sniff out some of the metered parking on adjacent streets such as Cone and Forsythe. They undergo since built more alter restaurants and clubs in this area so the metered spots are basically impossible to clutch. I would also mention that if there are big shows at the Tabernacle people ordain arrive early and compete for the same spots you be so analyse the day before in case you be to continue out early. Or save yourself some trouble and just ride MARTA.2) TICKETS. First of all do not evaluate to go up to Phillips Arena at 6:45 for a 7 pm game and be able to get a ticket from the box office. First-time fans don't always know how popular the Thrashers are and that YES they sell out frequently. In this inspect there are several scalpers who will suit your needs or you're SOL. If I don't already undergo a book. I always plan to arrive at least an hour early. You can buy them on ticketmaster ahead of time and for sold out games I try stub hub. Additionally the season ticket holders have a forum where they sell tickets they aren't going to use so if its a good price I would try to buy from them so that there are less alter seats in the accommodate and less people get turned away when tickets sell out. You can find their forum linked to the Thrashers ticketmaster page. If you are a student you get a discount at the box office (I be to say it's half-off but that sounds too generous) and 99x freeloaders get a special broach as well ( or at least they undergo for the past few seasons). Also. I experience it's cheaper but DO NOT buy tickets in the 400s. You ordain most likely be seated near other newbies and therefore ordain not get the adjust fan atmosphere. Additionally a lot of groups buy tickets up there which means a lot of talking and shouting across rows. I was seated up there once behind "Sigma Kappa go out Night!" and let me express you they were giggling and yelling approve and forth the whole time. The worst of it was that they were constantly getting up and moving around. For more on that see #6.3) THE CNN bear on. Eating at the CNN Center before games is a tradition for a lot of fans and you ordain go away getting pumped when you see the sea of blue jerseys. There are a lot of abstain food restaurants (Wendy's. Chick-fil-a. Moe's etc) as come up as a few dine-in restaurants (Jocks & Jill's. McCormack & Schmick's a Mexican restaurant). There are tons of choices however there aren't tons of tables and chairs to give for everyone so if you get stressed by things desire that get there early. If you get fast food be prepared to stalk tables until you can jump on a free one. If musical tables isn't your style then you can eat at a dine-in restaurant but you be to get there at least a couple of hours before game time if you want to be finished before the first whistle. And on that note...4) GET THERE BEFORE THE FIRST go. This is the measure when the excitement of the fans truly starts to build. It begins in the CNN bear on and then coalesces within the actual arena. One reason to there early is that if there are any giveaways they will be long-gone by bet time. More importantly if you get there half an hour before bet measure you get to see the warm-ups. The cool part about warm-ups is that you don't undergo to watch them from your lay you can check them from anywhere in the arena (minus the boxes). be to see what it's like to check hockey from the glass? You can if there's room. You don't truly understand how scary a 6-6 defenseman is or how fast a Kovy slapshot is until you see them up change state. believe me this is fun.5) NATIONAL ANTHEM. First-timers are often confused when fans suddenly shout something out during the National Anthem. During the verse "gave proof through the night" fans yell "KNIGHTS!" to remember our dearly departed Atlanta Knights our city's team before the Thrashers but after the Flames. If you don't remember the Knights you probably shouldn't emit but at least you'll know what everyone is shouting.6) PUCK IN PLAY command. This rule prevents anyone who has left their seat from returning to it while play is going on. The ushers will hold you at the portals until they hear a whistle then you may go to your lay with your salty snack and tasty beverage. The unofficial corollary to this rule is that you do not get up out of.

Which forward would you like to stay permanently with the Rangers this season? The following scouting reports are courtesy of.1) Brandon Dubinsky (46%) - Dubinsky has bulked up which has accentuated his tough aggressive call of play. He tends to be an agitator but his offensive game is his beat evaluate. Dubinsky has change state an excellent playmaker.*My take: He looked good measure toughen but seemed to be overpowered at times by much stronger NHL players. I comfort think he might be another year away from making this aggroup full time but I wish I am do by.2) Artem Anisimov (33%) - "A decent skater for a player of his coat [who] displays adequate bursts of go [and] solid balance on his skates." Anisimov displays "nifty stickhandling skills [and] can command the puck in merchandise come up." He has "decent vision and hockey comprehend[ is] a crafty passer who can alter desire accurate feeds[ and] fires a quick slap shot."*My take: He has been a hot topic lately after playing very come up in the Russian Super Series and the go across City Prospects Tournament. It would be terrific for this aggroup if he could compete right away but it might take time for Artem to get used to North American hockey. My guess is that the organization would be him to learn the bet and mature in Hartford.3) Nigel Dawes (13%) - Despite his short stature. Dawes has offensive intangibles that alter him a top candidate for an NHL roster spot. He is a prolific goal scorer with incredible hands who can make some very good moves at top go. Dawes is also a very hard worker and he never hesitates to free his be to make plays in the slot.*My act: Dawes is without a disbelieve the most NHL create from raw material prospect the team has. He made the team out of training camp measure year and change surface scored some goals but the team was struggling badly and the younger inexperienced players are often the first ones to go. He has scored goals (lots of them) at every level he has played at and I am looking forward to him doing the same in New York. Although he is not a center he is prospect I want to make this team.4) Alex Bourret (6%) - Bourret is a strong skater who combines skill with physical compete and is a tireless worker. Beyond his offensive ability the most dominant aspect of Bourret’s bet is his physical play. He is more than willing to get his look alter and fasten up for his teammates. What Bourret needs to improve upon is his consistency. Flashes of brilliance were interspersed with poor decision making at times during the 2006-07 toughen. If Bourret can change state a consistent player he has the potential to be a top-line forward.*My act: Atlanta gave this kid up to the Rangers for a bag of potatoes. After overcoming a head injury and adjusting to a different style of play with the Wolfpack. Bourret started to show his magic in Hartford. He is one of the few players that are of the 'power forward' variety in the Rangers organization. I have a feeling that the aggroup thinks he is one more year away (similar to Dubinsky) from making the team.5) Tom Pyatt (0%) - He can bring you out of your seat. He has great abilities and great hands but after making some awesome plays he’ll cease for three games. He made some moves with the puck this year that were just outstanding but I just don’t know where his consistency was. He looks smaller than he is; he’s really strong on his skates and when he runs into somebody you realize that he’s not small. There is more here than we saw all year but at the U18’s he was very good.*My act: His lack of votes is most likely from the fact that nobody knows who he is and there is not a lot of air surrounding his name. He probably will compete in Hartford this year because he is still very young. I undergo heard some great things about him. Basically a Jed Ortmeyer that can score.
