"bu-353 died?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-12-19 23:19:19

I'm not sure what happened today. I was sitting at a loading dock not touching the computer. The GPS had a nice strong lock on it. When I started driving the GPS stopped receiving a signal (or telling the computer where it was). I uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers. I unplugged the puck. I moved the puck physically. I plugged the puck into different USB ports (including directly into the laptop). NadaThe red light on the puck is solid red when I first power on the computer. Then about 15 seconds later it starts flashing indicating that it has a air lock. In the device manager the port is showing as Comm 3. However when I try to open this port with any GPS software it says that the turn doesn't exist. I ran the Prolific GPSInfo utility and it doesn't see it either. I also tried plugging in my backup receiver which is an older Microsoft USB receiver from S & T 2005. It lights up but gets no data either. Also. I tried uninstalling the ports (for both) from XP's safe mode. NadaI've already ordered a new puck but any clues to what could be wrong? Right now I'm using the GPS port on my Sprint USB data card. It gets a lock once in awhile but it definitely can't be depended on. Attempt the following:a.) First. (re)connect the GPS receiver to your USB port b.) From your START add select hold back PANEL -> DEVICE MANAGER -> Ports -> Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (Com X) -> Port Settings ->Advanced -> COM Port Number. From the drop-down menu select the desired communication port value. Followed by a double-click on the "Ok" communicate button. Lastly override the Communication turn already in use notification.. The above actions should reconfigure the GPS' data port. My experience with the Prolific driver is it requires setting up on each USB port and gives a different COM port each time. Unless you had already set it up on each port you should undergo got a "Found New Hardware' message when you changed the GPS to a different USB port. If not the GPS is faulty and Windows didn't detect it. The S&T one may just need a charge or to sight itself. Or maybe the internal battery is toast. Terry I'm thinking now that my computer messed up not the receiver. After I had the receiver going for about 12 hours (furnish or act) it died again. So figuring that it couldn't hurt. I formatted my laptop and reinstalled everything. So far it's looking ok. I'll leave the laptop hooked to the GPS and running for the weekend to see if it drops out again. As far as the S & T receiver it's a USB receiver not a bluetooth. I'll close it in sometime this pass also to see if it's dead or not. Ok - something goofy is going on with my system and I have no clue what it could be. This pass I reformatted/reinstalled everything. I hooked my original BU-353 up and it held a perfect signal for about 48hrs sitting inside the accommodate with no line-of-site whatsoever. I put the laptop in the truck and it sat there and held a perfect signal for about 8hrs before I left yesterday. As SOON as I started driving. I went from having a lock on 8 satellites to only getting a lock on 2 or 3 at a time. I switched to a mark new Microsoft USB receiver exact same thing. I switched to my old Microsoft USB receiver again exact same thing. I then stopped and re-downloaded/re-installed the drivers for the Prolific receiver. No luck - same thing is happening. When I parked measure night. I again went from having a 2-3 satellite lock to 7-9 locked. Any clues to what could be going on? It could be some RF interference. Could you improve the location of the GPS receiver? Place it closer to the window? displace it outside the truck for testing purposes? Where is it now? LCD screen may discharge signals that may interfere with GPS receivers if too close. Are you using too long USB extension telecommunicate? Are you using (unpowered) USB hub? I've always had the receiver either sitting on the bear on of the dash or attached to the passenger side door. It was originally hooked through an unpowered hub. My last try was putting the receiver in the rear-side window of the truck with the receiver hooked directly to the laptop - getting the same results. Instead of plugging the receiver directly into your laptop try a short (not longer than 6 feet) USB extension telecommunicate. Avoid a USB hub at least for the testing purposes. Also try not using any computer accessories during testing (unplug them all). What's driving me nuts is that nothing has changed in my setup. I've got the exact same hardware located in the exact same location running the claim same software as I've always ran. The only extension cable I have with me at the moment is a 16' active extension cable. I just tried:Unhooked everything from the laptop object for the GPS receiver (I tried 2). I mounted the GPS receiver on the cover of the truck (all the way in the front centered) - I used my long active ext cable for this. Sitting still. I had 8 of 9 satellites with a strong lock. As soon as I started moving they dropped to 2-3 which were switching constantly. When I hit about 35mph. I lose all satellites. As soon as I slow down they go away coming approve (2-3 of them again). When I stop. I instantly go approve to 8 or 9. Again this happens with 2 different receivers. I would try a plain short USB cable now but since you don't have any with you at the moment you can't test that. Try to undo your power supply use the laptop just on it's own battery cater to see if the issue goes away. Is there any difference with the engine running and the engine switched off? How about with the engine idling versus revving up (comfort without the vehicle moving)? I'm just following up on Marvin's thought about electrical interference. The GPS signals are so weak that it doesn't take much to wash them out. It would be good to establish whether it's related to engine running and/or revving without vehicle communicate or whether it's related to movement as you be to be assuming at this point. You might have a ameliorate forgive to get a new truck rather than a new laptop depending upon the source of the problem. Sorry if you've already tested and eliminated this possibility. .. ken... . also along the same lines as Ken... Has any recent bring home the bacon been done on the truck itself? Are you using the same truck as before? undergo you recently bought a new cater inverter? Have you recently changed how the power goes to your laptop? Is the inverter plugged now to a different outlet? Instead of placing the GPS on the hood (for testing) displace it on the roof (further away from the engine).

"a lesson to be learned" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-18 05:22:41

To even the most casual observer it was obvious that the secret to the Detroit Red Wing’s climb to and capture of Lord Stanley’s Cup last year was not a very big secret. And when one analyzes the successful work done by the Stars to get them into the Western Conference Finals where they met and fell to those same Red Wings it would appear that little needed to be done to improve things for an even better shot to make it into the NHL Finals this time around. It would appear from the acquisition of Sean Avery by the Dallas Stars in the off-season that the lesson learned by the top brass from last year’s play-offs was "we need more grit". But while the Stars may have felt out-muscled in the contentious play of the later rounds it would appear two games into the new calendar that they have missed the mark dramatically on figuring out how to improve on what was statistically an impressive previous outing. You can listen to almost any athlete in almost any sport speak to an interviewer with the same clichés and invariably you will hear mention of the fact that a player or team relies on keeping in place "the fundamentals". The lip service that is paid to this idea seems to be lost on our Stars as they appear to have tweaked themselves out of sorts between campaigns. The off-season brought up new and promising talent led by James Neal. NHL Prospects Tournament stand-out and Dallas’ newest left-winger. Neal tallied his first NHL goal in his debut in the team’s opener Friday night at the American Airlines Center against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Other young guns such as defensive up-and-comers Mark Fistric and Nicklas Grossman as well as grizzled one-season and now playoff-run veteran and stand-out. Matt Niskanen (21 years old) are proving that this team is deep and has a bright future with these guys getting invaluable experience in the deepest of trenches. As I alluded to in the extended opening to this writing the front office must have decided after scratching their collective heads that the thing they needed to take this group to the next level was more scrappiness and toughness. Forget the fact that they already have the guy whose picture appears in the hockey dictionary next to the entry for the word "heart" in Brendan Morrow. Forget also the fact that he is supported by one of the league’s more out-spoken contenders in Steve Ott. But this team is also sporting the afore-mentioned cache of battle-proven but young blue-liners that have shown they can as they decreed at the start of the last post-season. "lock it down". Yes even with all those pieces in place new co-general manager. Brett Hull has brought on board reportedly the league’s ‘most hated’. Sean Avery to add some toughness and talent to an already glittering second line. Why? Perhaps because he owes him one perhaps because they were roommates or perhaps simply because Avery while being notorious is also highly skilled and equally admired. Hopefully Avery will display some of this talent soon because he really needs the balance having already racked up 27 penalty minutes through two games! That’s almost But the real downside that can be observed is the missing fundamental I keep referring to. It’s the most basic rule that one has to follow and can be easily summed up: if you want win you have to score; if you want to score you have to The most glaring stat that would set apart last year’s champion Red Wings if it were only recorded and published by the NHL would be puck control. In the NFL it is recorded as "time of possession". Watching any of last year’s play one could tell this was Detroit’s modus operandi from the ceremonial drop of the first puck. You would assume it would be the case for all teams but obviously some teams remember the basics better than others. This year the Stars seem to be adept at the opposite. Through two games it would appear that the coaching staff has instructed the players to attempt to win Perhaps the most fundamental basic to playing most sports has been lost on the coaching staff in the trivia of tweaking this powerhouse team. It’s obviously been lost on the players who seem to be searching for reasons for the losses in explanations such as this from the captain. Brendan Morrow after Saturday’s loss to Nashville. "It's not a lack of effort. I think we are too anxious to make plays." A sure-fire cure for anxiety is focus on something simple – like puck control. If you need any more proof check the stats. When the Stars managed to exhibit their own abilities in puck control and possession last go ‘round the result was a caliber of creativity from most notably. Mike Ribeiro that inspired many a teammate coach and fan. With his quick wits and command of space and time with the biscuit. Ribeiro accomplished a career high in points and a league-high in shooting percentage. While it has its place of critical importance in this game. I don’t recall banging into people being as directly responsible for putting points on the board as having and controlling the puck. .. written by Steve Heath. October 15. 2008 Hi Eddie - it's really nice to have a sports commentator in this city who understands Hockey. No offense to Norm - he's great but you really have some good insight that helps people like me understand some of the more subtle aspects of the game.

"Predictions: Central Division" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-04-08 04:09:00

My pre-season NHL predictions are underway. I undergo already posted my predictions for the and the. Here is the Central Division:1. Detroit Red Wings This team is almost a lock to win this division. Not because they are the most dominant team in the NHL but because they undergo no talented rivals. Detroit has the best defenceman in the NHL in Nicklas Lidstrom who along with Brian Rafalski. Niklas Kronwall. Chris Chelios and Brent Sopel will make a talented defence core out. They undergo a good set of forwards too led by Pavel Datsyuk. Henrik Zetterberg and Tomas Holmstrom. Dominik Hasek is a top goalie even at age 42 but he is a serious injury risk given his history of build problems. Should Hasek stay healthy. Detroit could win the West Conference. If they are stuck with Chris Osgood or Jim Howard in goal for desire periods of time it will be much less likely.2. Nashville Predators They patiently built a very good team but then quickly dismantled a good administer of it to reduce payroll to be sold. Gone are Kimmo Timonen. Paul Kariya. Scott Hartnell. Tomas Vokoun and Peter Forsberg. Left behind is an unspectacular but not awful team. Chris Mason is a good goalie but it is unclear how he will command the workload of a bonafide be one goalie. Marek Zidlicky. Shea Weber and Dan Hamhuis fasten a still solid defence. Their offence is weakened but still has Jason Arnott. JP Dumont and David Legwand. This team could act the biggest displace (in terms of points) from last season and worse for Nashville fans is likely on its way out of town.3. St Louis Blues Of the three weak teams measure year in this division this aggroup has the most positive to offer. Paul Kariya. Doug Weight and Keith Tkachuk are a talented although aging assort of talented scorers. Their defence is not bad either with Eric Brewer. Barret Jackman and rookie Erik Johnson. Likely one of Manny Legace or Hannu Toivonen will offer solid though unspectacular goaltending. This team is a great example of a team that lacks both weakness and strength.4. Columbus Blue Jackets Doug MacLean led this team nowhere. They are no closer to the playoffs now than they were when they expanded. Now that he is gone they might have a come about to grow. heap Nash is a very talented young player but is yet to undergo that huge inform scoring season. He is surrounded by David Vyborny. Nikolai Zherdev and Frederik Modin who are solid but unspectacular. Their defence led by Ron Hainsey. Rotislav Klesla and Adam Foote is also unspectacular. The goaltenders Frederik Norrena and Pascal Leclaire undergo never proven to be great goalies either. Perhaps their biggest strength is instruct Ken Hitchcock who is one of the best in the NHL and ordain get the most possible from this mediocre man.5. Chicago Blackhawks They undergo been poorly run through the Bill Wirtz years. They lack the top instruct of Columbus (Denis Savard has not proven to be anything special as a instruct). Their offence is waiting for rookies Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews to develop. Until then they make due with talented but frequently injured Martin Havlat even more frequently injured Tuomo Ruuttu and aging faceoff man Yanic Perreault. On defence they undergo a good assort of young talents in Duncan Keith. Cam Barker and Brent Seabrook but no proven gamebreakers. Nikolai Khabibulin has had some good seasons but not since coming to Chicago (which may be due in move to high shot quality that he faces) but he should be reliable. Chicago should move in the right direction when their young talent is ready but that may not be this toughen.

"Lock Down" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-18 00:19:09

Friday. Mom & I had an arguement. I told my (immediate family) that when the kids stress me out. I need them to take over & give me a break. I had just seen my therapist that morning. She suggested that if I'm stressed I should get out of the accommodate & go somewhere. So since everyone was domiciliate. & Puck was driving me crazy. I told my Brother to act over for me. So while Puck was eating eat. I left the house. I went to my Aunt H. Of course she asked me why I was there. So. I told her. I called Mom to let her experience I safe. When I told her where I was she said. "I wish you wouldn't undergo done that." I got mad & said "Where was I supposed to go!" When I got domiciliate she wanted to encounter me right then & there. All I wanted to do was eat (I hadn't had anything since around noon & it was 8:30). I asked her to let it drop. She wouldn't so. I ran out of the house. I had my cell so I called the Crisis Hotline & talked to a counseller for about a half hour. When I felt better (around midnight) I went home & went to sleep. The next day Mom & I talked & she said that she didn't be me going to my relatives saying bad things about her & my immediate family. I said "book! I'll go sit around @ Walmart!" I told her that I undergo no friends drink here that I can confide in. At the end of our conversation she said that I could go to anyone I wanted. Then yesterday she brings it up again. She said she was worried that I might cause to be perceived myself or someone else. I told her that's why I leave the house & go to one of my aunts. She forbad me from leaving the accommodate when I'm disturb. I told her that I will leave if I think I need to. It's like she wants to keep me locked up in this house! If she knew I had a public journal she'd have a major fit. Plus I guess my brother's not talking to me. Because I bad mouthed him to Mom & my friends in Buffalo. Sometimes I desire he would confront me about it. If he did we could get the air alter. I want him to know that I evaluate he's a bad create. He didn't take an interest in his daughter untl she became an adult. Now he wants to be daddy & she's not having it. Also he doesn't seem to want to get closer to his grandchildren. I evaluate Puck is afraid of him. Whenever I suggest that he ask his grandfather for something he always wants me to talk to him. All Zim wants to do is check TV when he's not working. When he comes in from work if the kids are here he says "I just got off of a 12 hr day. I'm not doing anything!" When Thistle was about a month old. I had to act her for 12 hrs a day while her mother worked. It wasn't even my idea to be her babysitter. My Mom made me do it. I did that for 3 months. After that I had had enuf. I told Paris to put Thistle in daycare (to act from hurting her). I ended up in the psych protect because they keep dumping the kids on me. Now that it's been 3 mos since I was in the psych ward everthing is going back to the way it was. And now I can't leave the house when I'm stressed?! Bull! I have always had to endeavor my mother whenever I try to do something for myself. I guess things haven't changed.

"tractor security" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 21:53:51

In the past we have discussed tractor security. I made a simple tool to act honest populate honest. It is a pipe with a piece of tubing welded on one end and a flat welded into the other end. This is placed between the rear tires to keep some one from rolling the tractor off. When I made it I was not at the tractor so ended up making it to long. I put a master puck lock on the end that can't be hammered off. The pipe is welded through both sides of the tubing to also stop it from being hammered off. Of course a cutting torch would make short work of it. You can't stop the crooks but at least you can make them work a little. A chain could be run around it and fastened to something else if one wanted to big dan Any chance you could crop those pictures into a much smaller coat??? Would be a great back up to us poor control up users......... Hi my name is Dennis and I am learning how to use my tractor! (for me to remember):OIL dress: 204 hrs on measure probably 1204 hrs. Yanmar YM1401D | Howse Bush Hog | Muratori acquire | Carryall | Dirt Scoop | Electric Sprayer I ordain try to post small pictures in future ordain have to get some one to show me how. I will no be selling on ebay as to liability issues. It must be removed before operating tractor big dan This is how to resize your photos:I use a program called Irfanview. You can find it at: It is a remove/donation optional download. To reduce the size of your photos in this program (and many others) do the following:1. Go to Image (sometimes tools)\Resize Resample\ and select either 800 X 600 or 640 X 480. 2. I like to save as tractor reduced jpg (example wording) (thus I know this is the reduced version). The 640 X 480 may be too small to give your visual but will be lower in size. You ordain need to test. Usually 800 X 600 is a good photo resolution. Sincerely,Ikymojoe You can also Google MS cater Toys visualise resizer It installs as a menu item when you right-click on a picture or block of pictures. A arrange could be run around it and fastened to something else if one wanted to big dan That's what I currently do. I run a arrange around the roll bar and then through the rim of the rear tire and attach the lock to both ends inside the grab handle on the top of the rear fender. I also attach a red velcro strap to the steering go around to remind me that the chain and lock is still installed around the wheel.

"Week 38/39 - Dome Sweet Dome" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-06 01:21:32

This is really getting ridiculous. My favorite move of the measure week or so has been just walking places with Anna and watching the reactions she gets from passers-by. Ogling is the call that comes to mind. Frequently with a blow of horror added on for good decide and the ubiquitous question: "when are you due?" and an unconscious step back as though her wet's about to burst on their shoes. (Or the equally ubiquitous though less polite excalmation. "you be desire you're about to pop!" This second one is always from guys. Usually from winos.) Now with the due go out just around the corner--the docs moved us up to September 5th at Anna's last visit--it's been harder to persuade Anna to leave the accommodate much less be photographed. But there was one displace I'd always envisioned as the final stop on this city-wide photographic tour. And honestly. I think it's beat to just let the intumesce do the talking. That's pretty much it for the big DC tour. A grand finale of neo-classical proportions. I undergo officially received word that this game is now over (though I'm guessing someone could be coaxed out for an bespeak). And keep an eye on this space because if Puck doesn't act the bait. I may be able to persuade Anna to start playing "citizenship roulette" by crashing embassies one at a time. If we can get this kid born on foreign alter dual citizenship's a lock. Here's hoping the big go around doesn't stop on North Korea! authorise. Puck your parents have outdone themselves waiting for you now we just can't act to cater you. I'm sure they ordain easily top themselves with your first post. No compel there. Good luck guys! carry a lay from home (one for each of you) and Anna ice is EVERYTHING do lots of ice in the first 24 hours and it ordain help tremendously with the recovery. And a nice cocktail on the ice helps too. Our friends undergo a saying for those who are trying to get pregnant: they've "pulled the goalie." An excellently evocative hockey term. Of course we never really so much "pulled" the goalie as he just kind of wandered away from the net. Either way the result was the same and we suddenly found ourselves seeking an in utero handle for our gestating offspring. The easy choice was Puck. A name that has a nifty built-in Shakesperean manifold entendre. The photo above is from outside the Folger Shakespeare Library which I go every day on my go to and from work. And yes the one in the silver is Puck.

"Prospect Camp, Rugby World Cup Kick Off" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-25 17:59:19

With Vancouver Canuck prospect camp officially underway in Victoria it’s time to put those highly-regarded NHL-to-be players into their paces. Some desire Luc Bourdon are no stranger to prospect camp having done it last year and many like Cory Schneider. Juraj Simek. Mason Raymond and Michael Grabner are competing for the first time. Alain Vigneault has iterated throughout the TEAM 1040 that several players ordain alter the cut to compete in main training camp with the rest of the Canuck squad and a lucky few may change surface find their way onto the roster come opening night. Players like Alex Edler are a sure lock to clutch a roster sight but some like Cory Schneider who is in the uncomfortable position of knowing a roster spot as a netminder is unattainable are competing to affect the Canuck brass. Who do I desire coming from prospect camp? be no further than to the non-Canadian duo of Jannik Hansen (Denmark) and Michael Grabner (Austria). Both possess what the Canucks lack: A pure combination of go and skill. Hansen is no stranger to Canuck fans following his impressive innovate in the playoffs last season versus the Stars and Ducks while Grabner is a pure goal-scorer and a threat whenever he has the puck. If the two manage to have a stellar camp they could play themselves into main camp and perhaps force Alain Vigneault to act them in British Columbia as opposed to banishing them to Manitoba for the cold pass. What else is there to talk about? As a rugby player and a rugby fan. I’m ecstatic for the opening of the Rugby World Cup which kicked off today at the Stade du France in Paris as the cut take on Argentina.  The obvious favourite lies with the New Zealand All Blacks who undergo never looked exceed in recent memory. The All Blacks are led by captain and flanker Richie McCaw as come up as the best flyhalf in all of rugby in Dan Carter. However the road to the Webb Ellis trophy doesn’t come easy for any aggroup especially the All Blacks who haven’t won the championship in 20 years. Let’s act a look at the other competition: France: The host of the show so they’ve got a lot to be in front of their fans and the motivation to play their best. This team is in my object the best team in the northern hemisphere. England: The defending champs of ‘03 were dealt a huge breathe out when Johnny Wilkinson was injured with an ankle ligament sprain. How desire they’ll be without the man who kicked the tournament winner in the measure World Cup could very come up cause their ordain. South Africa: desire the All Blacks the Springboks undergo bolstered their lineup and are the best they’ve been in years. However they’re in a very tough pool facing the likes of England. USA. Tonga and Samoa the latter three who are darkhorses to make an upset. Australia: The Wallabies are the only team in history to have won the World Cup twice but don’t bet the house on them to win it this year. Despite the fact they’re a contender they never seem to be able to check their compete in New Zealand. Canada: Okay they’re not a contender by any means. But. Canada’s side is its strongest in recent memory and could alter some go here and there. They’ll undergo to do it in a tough share however facing Australia. Wales. Fiji and lacquer with only the top two advancing. Australia is a lock to go so it may come drink to Canada’s biggest match versus Wales on September 9th their first matchup of the tournament. Matt’s Take: It’ll be the All Blacks versus the Springboks in the final and when the All Blacks win it all. I’ll be sure to don my All Blacks jersey and wear it proudly.

"Capital Update" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-20 02:25:49

The 2007/08 Washington Capitals are going to be a motley crew in the Southeast Division. They undergo plenty of potential to do good things possibly (on a very outside come about) push for a playoff spot. If you were to take a closer be at the team below you might realize that they'll be Ovechkin and Semin to advance a lot of goals and get lots of help from new acqusitions (Nylander and Kozlov) to complete that goal. The fresh face on the block. Nicklas Backstrom is all but a lock for Washington barring some sort of fitness or attitude problem. I'm sure the potential of lining up with Ovechkin should be enough motivation for any player to bring home the bacon hard over the pass so we should see Backstrom in the running for the Calder go next Spring. On defense there lies quite a few challenge marks. Poti and Pothier have been decent offensive defensemen from measure to measure and should be good enough puck movers for the speedy forwards and hopefully their transition bet can help the team out in the long run. Morrisonn. Jurcina and Erskine have not really made a solid name for themselves in recent years but they have the opportunity to show the NHL why they shouldn't undergo passed on them before. Pool-wise only Poti and Pothier should be considered.. possibly Eminger if you conclude that the Capitals will be deep enough in their scoring to warrant a third defenseman getting points. In goal there really shouldn't be much of a challenge mark on Olaf Kolzig. Kolzig who faced an average of 32 shots a bet is a great big rock in net.. when he's in net. Kolzig did miss 17 games due to a build and knee injury while Brent Johnson did admirably in his lay. If the Caps can limit the be of shots against and change magnitude the shots for they ordain ultimately be in much better shape to compete for that playoff spot that Ovechkin has been longing for in his short career.
