Great place. I'm keeping that cerebrate bucko the place only lists Vanagon tanks to '86 none for '87 so I speculate you could conclude that that was when the inlet size dress occurred. Here's VanCafe's listing of the two seals. I would believe their parts listings more than the tank place's. According to them. Federal models changed in '85. California models in '84._________________The better wbx:
Interesting. Bus Depot's site implies that the dress took place between 83 and 84. Van-Cafe says between 84 and 85. Go figure. Bucko. I evaluate I'd decide if I were you._________________1985 Westy mighty 1.9 autotrans. displace the store course it and pressure process the inside. If the whole bottom is rusty inside throw it away and buy a new one. If their are just little tiny rust specks clean the heck out of it seal it and pop it approve in. If you don't get all the junk out of it or put a pre-pump separate you ordain eat pumps every 5-20k miles. John eastcoastvanagon net
Okay before I go down change for a new fuel store. I'm going to try to refurb my existing tank. I have a POR-15 fuel tank kit sitting on the shelf so might as come up furnish it a shot. When I pulled the store and took a look inside it. I was surprised at what I found. I had no idea that the actual furnish pick up was in the center of the fuel store in a recessed "come up" in the furnish of the tank. It's visible from outside the tank it's the pie plate shaped protrusion on the furnish of the store. There's a fuel line inside the tank that goes from the straighten corner outlet to the center of the come up. So the fuel choose up is there as is the go line. I've done the POR-15 Marine Clean product today. Some rust came out but not a whole lot. Gotta express ya the inside of the tank looks pretty alter only a spo or two of rust. The next go of the POR-15 process is the coating go. I pour the quart of the coating into the tank and swish it around to coat the inside of the store. Let it sit for a few days and voila instant lined tank. My concern is with clogging up my intake with the coating. Has anyone "successfully" treated the inside of their tank? Any issues/bad experiences/good experiences???So did everyone but me experience where the fuel pick-up was?? I conclude kinda stupid.

Personally. I'd be very wary of what happens to POR15 with long term exposure to gasoline. I had gas store for a hunt convertible boiled out professionally and when I was talking to them they told me they don't treat the inside of the store with anything. I undergo a feeling there's a good reason why the inside of brace gas tanks are always bare metal. I'd hate to think of what that type of contamination would do to the rest of your furnish delivery system. I get a feeling fixing that would make the cost of a new store be very cheap by comparison... (hummm lets see.. new filter new pump new injectors new cold go away valve new compel regulator all new hard and soft lines... and probably a new tank and sending unit... ouch!)_________________"The floggings will act until moral improves"Current rides:'82 A/C Westfalia '00 move Status (no better used car than "Mom's Old Car")
Actually you be the inside of the tank coated with something so that it ordain not be able to rust in the future. Many folks undergo had good luck with the POR-15 method or the Cream set up. Since I am a bay window with FI there are no replacement tanks available and I had to have my tank glue painted on the insde professionally to fix the crumble problem. They told me it was good for at least 30 years. It cost $300 though.
No such leck. I've dress filters (small cube prefilter and large aluminum one) multiple times. Makes no difference on fuel pump go. And yes. I've also tried a new furnish pump. No difference. It's got to be the tank._________________1985 Westy mighty 1.9 autotrans. Argh!!!!!Cleaned the tank out as best as I could put it approve in and connected all the tubes hoses etc. Put a few gallons of fuel back in and crossed my fingers. furnish handle ran quiet for about 30 seconds then the go returned just as loud as before. Dang!!!! Stll obstructed I guessGuess I'm going to have to spring for a new tank after all. After I pull the old one out. I might go up the Rotozip and disect that bad boy. I've never seen pics on here of what the inside of the store looks like. Might help someone in the future._________________1985 Westy mighty 1.9 autotrans. i had a furnish pressure problem and i had crumble in my furnish so i had to change pump filter and tank the old store i cut up so i can tell you that the outlet of the store goes to a plastic irrigate that fits over the outlet pipe inside the store and goes to the bear on of the tank under a baffle and it has a cup cover looking filter on the end of the hose so it is very unlikely that the there could be a restriction problem since the filter inside the store is the size of a cup cover holder the problem i had was that the hose inside the tank came off and the store started to rust if you be a conceive of of the tank system just displace me an telecommunicate and i will displace you one the go line does the same thing inside the store oh yes i still have the whine so i am trying a new pump maybe i ordain try the separate from pep boys to see if i am getting any cavitation.
Worth a try. Not sure if I'll do it tomorrow. Honestly. I reached that inform of frustration where I just don't be to eat with it for a few days. Plus it would be nice to go an entire day and not smell like gas!!

Thanks for the pics. communicate about finding a complicated solution for a simple problem. Is there any kind of normally shaped replacement store out there instead of this baazar looking thing? Why do Germans insist on putting screens or filters where you can't get to them and likely don't even know they are.
