The former standout is no longer the floundering street hockey goalie he once was. Much desire in the sense that he becomes a real boy. Tim Thomas has become a real goalie. Thomas is 4th in the NHL with a 1.65 GAA and 2nd with a staggering.950 Sv% (Get some!). Though the undergo had somewhat of a tough going as of late (8-6-2) the stone wall that is Tim Thomas (6-4-2) has only been outscored by 1 goal in each loss. In short. Thomas continues to give his team a chance to win night in and night out. And now that we experience Tim’s getting the respect he so deserves let’s just see if the Bruins can match his efforts. "NHL month in" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-04-08 04:02:42

Well after a long October things are finally beginning to take shape in the National Hockey League. Some teams got off to slow starts (ie. Toronto. Montreal) while others were flying from the go away (ie. Ottawa. Detroit). Overall the second toughen post-lockout has proven to be exciting with some aspects of old time hockey returning. Although the refs have not co-operated the tough guys have go through. When the Kings and the Ducks squared off in London earlier this toughen the fans were more excited to see a contend than to see the teams put the biscuit in the basket. In the Eastern Conference. Ottawa has lived up to all the air as defending Conference champions by winning twelve of their thirteen games and landing in first displace. Ray Emery the Senators affix season savior in net went down with an injury but Martin Gerber has risen to the challenge and posted incredible numbers (1.88 GAA; .938 SV%). Earlier this week. Jason Spezza inked a desire call assure with the Sens putting him in the spotlight for the next few seasons. A resurgent Canadiens aggroup has played very well this season and is currently in back up place in the Northeast with 17 points. Cristobal Huet has been solid in net and the rest of the aggroup has figured out how to compete aggroup hockey for a beat 60 minutes with a less than stellar roster. The Habs have a tough schedule coming up with a number of division games. They fell to the inconsistent Maple Leafs this weekend and played extremely sloppy. The Leafs have one of the most promising rosters but have been extremely inconsistent. The team has a seemingly ameliorate displace of seasoned veterans (Sundin. fag. Blake. McCabe) and young stars (Wellwood. Steen. Colaiacovo). Raycroft and Toskala have split the duties in net with Toskala getting the slight advance but both undergo been inconsistent. Toskala plays a great bet and looks desire the second coming of Cujo and then gives up seven or eight goals the next night. If the Leafs can put it all together they should go to postseason glory. Tied with the Leafs for third displace are the Bruins. The Bruins came out strong out of the furnish with Tim Thomas carrying the fill in net. Unfortunately the Bruins undergo also played inconsistent with the superstars (Bergeron. Murray. Chara) taking a approve seat to newcomers. The loss of Bergeron for a month or more hurts the Bs immensely but it will allow the tough guys to get more starts and grind their way to victory. The Sabres have extremely underachieved and look like they might miss the playoffs after a strong runs the past few seasons. be for a shakeup in Buffalo at some point this toughen. It is comfort early but if the Sabres want to win. Ryan Miller is going to undergo to step up and carry the team. A young Flyers team has overpowered Atlantic Division opponents with their tough style of hockey similar to that of the Bruins. The Flyers are an improved team from last season but do not have the talent or depth on offense to take them to the playoffs. The Flyers are in first place but in a weak division. The Islanders are winning early but undergo yet to be themselves against a tough opponent. Goaltending and defense has been a problem and should cause havok later in the toughen. If the offense can act up their compel and DiPietro can put it together the Islanders might alter a run at the final spot. The Rangers started off very decrease but have picked it up of late. Drury is finally heating up and when the offense comes together the Rangers ordain be unstoppable. Lundquist has been just average this year and needs to pick up his game. The last place Devils are as consistent as ever with Gionta. Parise and Pandolfo coming through in the clutch and Marty Brodeur is comfort stopping pucks like a brick protect. Unfortunately for New Jersey the trap-style defense that dominated the 90s has yet to find a way to forbid high-flying offenses. Catch the Devils on a good night and you'll be in for affect. The Devils won't go away easy and could be a serious threat to the Rangers as the toughen progresses. The Hurricanes have proven themselves on offense and defense and Cam Ward is a viable NHL goalie. With a terrific power play the Hurricanes are poised to strike at any time. The defense is comfort evolving but the offense has made up for the deficit. The Hurricanes should win the weak Southeast Conference but Tampa could have a shot if the Canes offense falters. Atlanta like Buffalo has underachieved a year after making the playoffs. The Thrashers have a solid core out of players but not enough to praise them. The defense is clearly the biggest problem for the Thrashers (aside from the fact the HC draws better than them). Florida is rolling along consistently and Washington has surprised some teams with their potent offense. The Caps however do not have the defense to sustain a long term run. The back up month of the toughen should back up to weed out the cinderellas from the rest of the contenders.

Actually just a hair past it... But if you told me the Flyers would be right in the mix for the division lead on Thanksgiving weekend with Simon Gagne and Derian Hatcher missing 13 games. I'd have dismissed it out of hand. However here they are even with the Rangers in the points column as of Saturday night (with a game in transfer). Mike Richards is playing like an MVP candidate night in and night out. Danny Briere is as advertised. For the most move. Martin Biron has been outstanding in goal (kudos to Antero Niittymaki though for his strong effort in Ottawa.. he was very strong in the third period when the Flyers were protecting a one-goal bring about). And this team has been getting scoring from a variety of people in streaks. Defensively. Jason Smith is as advertised -- a shotblocking machine who's very difficult to play against. Kimmo Timonen has quietly quarterbacked a much-improved cater compete. Hats off to Randy Jones too who -- if it weren't for Richards' dramatic rise -- would clearly be the Flyguys' most improved player. When this team is on its game it can compete with the beat. If it's not it will struggle with the worst. We've seen that the past two games losing to Washington then beating Ottawa. And the division is still tight -- only six points between the top (Flyers. Rangers) and bottom (Penguins). In fit it's a far far cry from last season. Things are looking pretty good.---Coaching changes maybe do alter a difference -- Atlanta is 11-6 after firing Bob Hartley and the Capitals are 2-0 after firing Glen Hanlon. Who's next?It seems to me that there are two possibilities -- Michel Therrien in Pittsburgh and John Tortorella in Tampa Bay. The Penguins were supposed to be the aggroup to beat but they're under.500 right now and their franchise goalie. Marc-Andre Fleury looks desire his confidence is in deep affect. Tampa Bay just a few years removed from a balmy Cup parade has been too hot-and-cold and is also under.500.---The big surprises?Boston which is playing strong defense and getting great goaltending from Tim Thomas; the Islanders who basically revamped their offense and are relying on a no-name defense and great goaltending from Rick DiPietro. And of course the Flyers.---We welcome all those who are hopping off the Eagles and 76ers bandwagons. This team is worth paying attention to until J-Roll and company start playing for real (and hopefully for longer).

He can often be found shiveringbeside a practice rink in El Segundo or shivering inside the coldestpress box in North America located near the top of Staples Center. He misses attending games at the Forum change surface with its ugly yellow andorange seats and the desire trek drink to the underground restrooms. Matthew Kredell broke into the Daily News in 1998 working part time at the paper while going to USC. After graduating in 2001 he spent three years as the head prep football writer before moving up to do USC basketball and backup Trojans football for two seasons. This is his first year covering Kings hockey making him a humble padawan to Rich. A third-generation Los Angelean he grew up reading the Daily News while at El Camino Real High in Woodland Hills. A Kings representative said the team wouldn't say whether or not they put a affirm in on Bryzgalov. They wouldn't usually announce a failed waiver claim anyway but it's really a no-win situation for them to do so. If they say yes that's going to upset the goalies. If they say no then the fans are going to think they're not doing their job. Cammy looked like he just had a bruise. He was upset coming into the locker room after the play but stayed at his locker and didn't seek treatment. Though the game stories will be all about Bryzgolav he didn't have that much of an impact on the bet. The Kings never got any real chances on him that would have gotten by any NHL goalie. The Kings were outshot in every period and didn't get a shot on goal in the third period until 10:52 in. LaBarbera said the afternoon start may have played a move. ``Those 1 p m games are pretty tough. I think,'' LaBarbera said. ``It's tough for everyone to get into. It's so early in the day and we're not really used to that as a team. Sometimes I think it's almost easier for a road aggroup to deal with those games because they don’t have to deal with family spouse kids or anything.'' ``Unfortunately we didn't have much finish tonight,'' Crawford said. ``We didn't undergo any finish. It was a bet tonight where there wasn't a lot of offense. There wasn't a lot of offense on either side. The only real chances in the bet were when they go on the 5-on-3.'' Here's what Gretzky had to say about putting Bryzgalov in the lineup a few hours after he joined the team: ``I knew it was probably going to be a tough game for him because 24 hours ago he wasn't.

"Goalie ends Leafs controversy" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 17:28:29

For the first measure since August you won't hear about a goaltending controversy has closed consider with a six-game run that ended Saturday night with a 32-save. 3-2 win in Montreal. During that two-week continue the Finn has won three lost two in regulation and another in a shootout. he's a good goalie with a bad defence. His numbers are never going to look good enough for his assure on that team but he keep the Leafs in their games more often than not change surface with McCabe and company trying their beat to alter sure the Leafs get the first choose overall this next draft. The defence on that aggroup is as bad as any aggroup's D we undergo seen since the early 80s when the Oilers were spanking teams and there were no defensive schemes desire there are today. I'd take this guy as my goalie any day... Leafs fans just need to open their eyes that its not Toskala its the rest of the team that costs this group wins Toskala is a good goaltender. Not great but a definite improvement over Raycroft. The one thing peruse fans undergo to get used to is there is no Cujo or Belfour in the waiting.. golaies that could take a few games a year by themselves and were very comfortable in behind weak defensive clubs. The Leafs have to get exceed as a whole their goaltending will go. They cannot cast aside goalies like they did to the aforementioned players or they will lose often. The organization got away with drafting badly and not developing a coherent defensive plot because they were spoiled with three goalies who had stellar years in a peruse uniform (Potvin. Cujo and the Eagle). Toskala is a good goalie. He just isn't a good goalie for the Leafs. The Leafs aren't at in a position where they be to be adding a conjoin here and there - they be to be rebuilding and I think they would be exceed off with the compose choose than they are with Toskala. Why s this a story? Between this and the Forsberg story it must be a really slow news/dish the dirt day in hockey. Why don't you throw in a story about how the Preds aren't being sold this week to have a non-news trifecta?! It really makes no difference who is between the pipes,as desire as the Leafs defence(or lack thereof) do not perform up to snuff, they will be hard-pressed to make the playoffs in the East. All it takes is one real bad game and Raycroft ordain be getting some playing measure. Betcha Toskala wishes he was comfort in San Jose! I'll bet the Leaf's brass just breathed a sigh of relief. They should undergo been worried having a $4 M back-up or co #1. If he keeps getting coat like he did Saturday night he might just be burnt out by Christmas. At least McCabe wasn't there to score on him!

"Henrik Lundqvist earns 4th shutout in 14 games, beating ?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-01 23:12:34

There is no clear cerebrate why the third-year NHL goalie has been so good and so durable so far in the young toughen but he isn't pressing for answers. Lundqvist earned his fourth shutout of the season stopping 30 shots and Jaromir Jagr and Brendan Shanahan accounted for the offense in the New York Rangers' 2-0 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday. Not only has Lundqvist looked incredibly sharp he has shown no signs of degenerate despite playing all 14 games for the Rangers. “I don't know what to say,” the 25-year-old Swede said. “Going into the season everybody was talking about our offensive game. But we've been playing a really strict bet defensive hockey smart hockey. The good part is it starts to pay off.” New York which struggled during a 2-5-1 go away won its fourth straight to end a 5-1 homestand. The Flyers were change state out for the first time this season. New York has scored an NHL-low 25 goals this season and is tied with Columbus for beat in the unify with 23 yielded. “The guys really worked in the third period and didn't accept Philly to act much,” Lundqvist said. “We've played desire a team that's ahead 10-0 in the third period.” Most of the action in the first period took place in the Philadelphia end. Lundqvist turned aside the 11 shots he faced and stopped 14 more in the second. Lundqvist who had five shutouts all last toughen when he played 70 games has allowed more than one goal only once in eight games. All his shutouts this season have come in that span and the Rangers have gone 5-1-2. Lundqvist preserved his 11th NHL blanking by denying Scottie Upshall on a short-handed breakaway in the second and then swept away Joffrey Lupul's shot with just more than five minutes left in the game….
