"Matt Karash: Canes Game #28: At New York Rangers --- Character found" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-13 12:31:45

In my pregame blog. I pointed to a bunch of questions - the team in general leadership from Staal. Ward etc and more etc. I always hate when a team is on a 9-1-1 stretch and an announcer talks about the strong character leading to wins. Character does lead to wins but when a team is winning easily and regularly is not the time when you can measure character. Character is measured when things are ugly and difficult when confidence is lacking and when you have to take the ice without enough time for 4 days of group therapy to get things mentally okay. Character is measured in a game like Monday night when a team is coming of a rough stretch at home remembering a brutal loss 2 days earlier and facing 4 more losable games on the road. The Canes answered the character bell. First to be clear. 1 game does not mark a turnaround. It simply shows the signs of life/heart that are necessary for a turnaround. Also despite the 4-0 win. I would not call this a resounding turnaround in play on the ice. As John Forslund and Tripp Tracy pointed out in the FSN broadcast the Canes did the little things right. They blocked shots. They skated hard after loose pucks. They generally put forward the extra stride of effort whenever the chance was there. They did also get completely dominated in the 2nd period and got a bit of luck with a couple Drury posts and a perfectly timed Tanabe exit from the penalty box to keep the last 10 minutes from being a nail-biting cling to the edge of the cliff for the win ending. Details aside the Canes take 2 big things to build on from this game:1) A win the 2 points and the good feeling that comes with it. When things are going bad solid play in hard-fought 3-2 loss helps but not as much as this in terms of players being able to breathe rather than suffocate.2) A great set of tape and a model for what it takes. The shot block total of something like 22-23 almost matched Ward's save total. Equally significantly the Canes fought to win lose pucks clear pucks from the zone slow Ranger players get to the front of the net to help finished checks etc. You cannot do this sometimes. You cannot have exemptions for 'scorers.' You just have to have 18 guys do this work for 60 minutes. The next step is to find the conistency to do it consistently not out of desperation following the ugly loss team meeting coaches' meeting etc scenario. A few notes on the game:1) Cullen. Why not mention him again. Though there was a lot more help last night he continues to be our best forward.2) Ward. I looked to Ward to help his team through a tough stretch. The team was good enough offensively early and good enough in limiting grade A chances even under duress that he was not asked to steal a game Monday night. But a shutout is obviously a solid performance.3) Staal. He did not have a huge game offensively but he left his 'scorer exemption' in the locker room and did a lot of the little things. Renney's matchup of choice for Jagr's line was against Staal's line. Though Jagr and company did have a bunch of shifts where they hemmed the Canes in for 40-60 seconds as far as Jagr nights go they never generated a ton of the grade A variety scoring chances. Staal did a decent job covering the middle of the ice and slowing Jagr and got help with other players collapsing to the middle to help out and block shots.4) Tanabe. He looked like a player that wanted to play defense full-time rather than fill in forward part-time. Especially early in the game he carried the puck assertively. The goal was another assertive and confident play. Even his biggest mistake turning over the puck led to a great recovery and a great play that should not have been a penalty. More than any other player on the current roster. Tanabe has the ability to make the defense better. He gets at least 1 more left shot playing on his natural side (I think part of Kaberle's struggles have been from discomfort on the other side of the ice.) He also brings an option who can move the puck with his skates from the back end. In a defense full of veterans/bangers getting 1 more guy out there with wheels (if he is playing well) creates a bunch more options for transitioning from defense to offense on a night when the slick passing is not getting it done.5) The 2nd period. In my opinion the 2nd period was the deciding point of this game. The Rangers dominated the period and easily played well enough to get back to 2-2 on their way to a 4-3 win. A combination of timely Ward stops a bunch of blocked shots and players doing simple things like tying up bodies and returning to the front of the net to help out whenever in doubt helped the Canes escape the barrage leaving the Rangers in desperation mode needing to get 2 in the 3rd period. As I said above. 1 game does not turn this around. The Canes managed some good wins in November only to lose the next couple. But it does accomplish a couple things. It keeps the Canes gaining points even in these difficult times. In a long 82-game season that is crucial. It is just too hard to make up for a few 10-game stretches where you go 4-5 games under.500. It also puts down a single building block. Go Canes!

"New York Rangers vs. Washington Capitals" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-09-27 02:32:44

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Defenseman Mike Green emerged as a hero as the remained hot. Green scored the game-winning goal in overtime and added twoassists as the Capitals edged the. 5-4 onWednesday. Joe Motzko scored two goals and Alex Ovechkin and defensemanJeff Schultz also tallied for Washington which improved to3-0-0 on its current four-game homestand. The Capitals also raised their record to 6-3-1 under interimcoach Bruce Boudreau who took the helm when Glen Hanlon wasfired following a 6-14-1 start."The effort was great," Boudreau said. "They never thought atany point that they were out of it which is important. Whenyou believe that you can come back then that's half the battle. The next thing is doing what you're supposed to do and keeppushing and pushing. I thought we pushed really good tonight."The Rangers who had creeped to within one point of AtlanticDivision-leading New Jersey after shutting out the Devils. 1-0,last Sunday have dropped four of five."We're lucky we got a point," Rangers coach Tom Renney said."We scored two goals and thought it was going to be easy. Thisteam just got better and better and came after us."I'm not sure if I'm perturbed or disturbed. We weren't verysmart. We moved the puck poorly and managed it poorly. We haddisjointed lie changes and had defensemen on ice for too manyminutes because we couldn't get the puck out of our end. Weweren't very bright tonight."In overtime with the puck in the offensive zone. New York'sBrendan Shanahan tripped on the ice as he was just receiving thepuck 40 feet directly in front of the net."I just reached back for the puck and that's just part of thegame sometimes," Shanahan said. "You get a bad bound like thator you step in a bad groove. Whatever it was my skate dug inand I lost my footing."The loose puck was gathered by Brooks Laich who led a 2-on-1rush before quickly passing to Green for a shot that found itsway between the pads of goaltender Henrik Lundqvist at 3:41 forthe game-winner."I thought (Shanahan) was going to undergo some room to walk inthere and tee it up but he just tripped," Laich said. "When hefell down. I just pounced on it. All of a sudden the eyesjust light up with a chance and I drove it down and got atiming pass across to Green. He knocked the (water) bottle off(the top of the net) so we're pretty excited."Green got excited as soon as he saw Shanahan go drink."I saw him trip and I just raced up the ice," Green said. "Assoon as he fell. I took off and Brooksie made a great pass tome. I saw the top half of the net so it was just a matter ofshooting it there. To get the win was the icing on the cake."Boudreau was excited by the play of Green who also had twoassists and spent a team-high 30 minutes. 5 seconds on the icein his first career three-point game."He's going to be good," Boudreau said. "I have all theconfidence in the world in him. He's smart with the puck."Washington rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the first period whenMotzko scored his first two goals of the season. The27-year-old tallied at 15:51 of the opening session beforeknotting the contest with 4:13 remaining in the second."It's definitely a step in the right direction knowing we cancome back from two goals down," Laich said. Ovechkin gave the Capitals their first lead at 4:36 of thethird when he deflected a snap shot from Green past Lundqvist. Martin Straka netted his second goal of the game at 8:13 to knotthe game at 3-3 but just 78 seconds later Schultz fired from61 feet out to restore Washington's one-goal advance. Shanahan sent the game into the extra period when he redirecteda shot from blue-liner Michal Rozsival with 7:17 remaining inthe third past Olaf Kolzig as the netminder had yet to recoverfrom making a save."We kept on having to play catch-up hockey," Shanahan said."Unfortunately we had a bad end to end the game. We weren'thappy with some of the chances we gave up. Sometimes we hadfull hold back of the puck in our end and turned the puck over, and it ended up in our net."Kolzig managed to stop 19 shots for Washington which had notwon three straight at home since last January. Lundqvist made 30 saves for New York which saw its four-gamewinning streak against Washington come to an end."They got a couple weird goals - a couple deflections ascreen," Lundqvist said. "The last one. I tried to find and itwent right through me."

"The Atlantic is the new North West" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 20:45:12

I was looking at the standings and there is only a 6 inform difference between the first place Devils(34) and the last displace Islanders (28). In less than a week. 3 different teams have been in the top spot of the Atlantic division and I think it ordain be desire this all the way down the stretch. Imagine if all the Atlantic teams managed to press into the playoffs. If they did. I would imagine it would look something like this:1. Ottawa2. New Jersey3. Carolina4. New York Rangers5. Philadelphia6. Boston7. Pittsburgh8. New York IslandersThis is a long shot but it would be cool to see a whole division act the playoffs by storm. With five teams in the playoffs there would be a 31% chance the cup would come back to Atlantic division and a13% chance it would go to Pennsylvania. These days all the teams are so close you don't know who will be in until the last game of the season but it would still be cool to see (for fans of the Atlantic division anyway).

Hockey officially begins today with the Ducks & Kings playing the first preseason bet the first Rangers bet is the 21st against the stupid devils!convey god hockey is approve this is our year! The usual news resources:Training camp roster: Fifty other players are expected when camp opens tomorrow with physical and medical exams. There will be six goalies -- Lundqvist. Valiquette. Montoya. Wiikman. Zaba and Chris Holt -- no Antoine Lafleur at least not as of now. Seventeen defensemen are currently listed -- Rozsival. Malik. Mara. Tyutin. Girardi. Kasparaitis. blemish. Strudwick. Staal. Sauer. Sanguinetti. Andrew Hutchinson. Baranka. Busto. Liffiton. Jake Taylor and Corey work -- Barthel makes eighteen. Eighteen wingers -- Jagr. Shanahan. Avery. Straka. Prucha. Callahan. Hossa. Hollweg. Orr. Dawes. Dupont. Bourret. Korpikoski. Jessiman. Dane Byers. Greg Moore. Francis Lessard and Mitch Fritz -- no David Kveton. Tomas Zaborsky or David Skokan. And nine centers -- Drury. Gomez. Betts. Dubinsky. Anisimov. Pyatt. Barnes. Bruce Graham and Jordan Owens. Opening night line predictions?Prucha-Drury-JagrHossa-Gomez-ShanahanAvery-Straka-CallahanHollweg-Betts-OrrRozsival-MalikTyutin-GirardiStaal-Mara Opening night lie predictions?Prucha-Drury-JagrHossa-Gomez-ShanahanAvery-Straka-CallahanHollweg-Betts-OrrRozsival-MalikTyutin-GirardiStaal-Mara I love Prucha but unfortanately but I don't see him on the first line. Interesting concept of moving Straka to center. I can see that. I can also see Hossa as a center as come up. But I'll stick with your plot. Hossa-Drury-JagrAvery-Gomez-ShanahanPrucha-Straka-CallahanHollweg-Betts-Orr (Dawes?) Hossa-Drury-JagrStraka-Gomez-ShanahanPrucha-Avery-CallahanHollweg-Betts-Daweswhat's this I'm hearing about Kaspar "looking good" in practices? He's still on the aggroup with that salary? I for some reason thought he was getting cut first pre-season bet in T-minus 8 days... Dammit. FAZ.. you defeat me to starting the go. One week now to the first preseason game!!!I like this update from BB: Darius Kasparaitis is in camp feeling like a rookie he says ready to go up against the big guys and resurrect his NHL career. He's lost twenty pounds and has regained his nerve since hitting rock bottom he says when he had his panic contend in Hartford last move. He hopes to alter the Rangers but realizes there is a numbers bet beyond his control and hopes he can play somewhere this season. He wants to keep playing long enough to answer for the 2010 Olympics. He credits Glen Sather. Jim Schoenfeld and Tom Renney with encouraging him to get back into shape. Sather told him he recounted that he used to be a fearless guy who hit Eric Lindros and made him afraid of him and he needs to recapture that. analyse here later for direct quotes from Kaspar. approach x 4?when's Marc Staal step into the starting line-up? Right off the bat or does he take a little while? Does Cherepanov come over to the States and kick ass up in Hartford? Does Hank get an extention come January? I'm very interested in seeing how some of our young guys fare this toughen.. that preview was pretty decent... Aside from Lundqvist. (who signed a one-year deal) the core of the team is signed beyond next season. The only exceptions are Shanahan. Avery and Martin Straka. Shanahan and Straka may well retire following the toughen while Avery tends to wear out his welcome in one place after a bring together of seasons. Beyond Staal. Thomas blemish is the only blueliner signed beyond the coming season. However a end re-working of the 'D' would not necessarily be a bad idea. I don't think Cherry ordain come over this season. I'd like to see it but I think he'll be overseas for at least a season. I hope I'm do by. I want to see Anisimov on the big unify. Henke should get his extension.. that's what was promised to him. But after the Avery debacle. I wouldn't be surprised if the team tried to alter Lundy wait. We should evaluate about setting up a move to a WolfPack bet. As for Leetch... If I can't get my $450/ticket on StubHub... I'll settle for less from you cheap bastards. I'm drink and I know my buddy Matt would be too. He and I are planning a trip to Buffalo for the 2/23/08 game. I'm down and I know my buddy Matt would be too. He and I are planning a trip to Buffalo for the 2/23/08 bet. That's a Saturday game right? I'd love to get up there for that one.. maybe I can convince my bro and a friend or two to go... I'm also planning a road move to DC to see a Rangers-Caps game. what could work is going to Bridgeport for a Sound Tigers game vs the Wolf Pack.. just closer for everyoneIn Bridgeport on the following: JD yeah that might be better for everyone. Still early enough yet... Thanks to Mik from the NHL thread... The WolfPack's new EDGE jersey: WOOOOOOO!!!! Training camp opens tomorrow our utes kicked ass in the go across City Tourny and came in 1st place. So many things to look send to this season and many questions Which rookies will alter the aggroup and emit? Can Hene play 70 games? How good will Shanny be? Ditto for Gomez and Drury Is this the year Operation Hossa finally breaks out? Brian Leetch night January 24 Will Kaspar alter the team? Who will be our 3rd line center? WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LETS GO RANGERS!!!!! "Isn't it sad how some people's grip on their lives is so precarious that they'll embrace any preposterous delusion rather than face an occasional bleak truth?" "Isn't it sad how some people's grip on their lives is so precarious that they'll include any preposterous delusion rather than face an occasional bleak truth?" Training camp opens tomorrow our utes kicked ass in the Traverse City Tourny and came in 1st place. acclaim on the My Cousin Vinny references boys. Also. I cannot make the December 29th Wolfpack-Soundtigers game because I ordain be in Toronto for the Rangers-Leafs game. INSTANT STICKY... I love it you're the man PapaG. I like the attitude already.. from Kaspar basically saying "I'm create from raw material fuckers".. to their training camp t-shirt: Sam is reporting the scrimmage lines from today are something desire this:Hossa-Gomez-JagrAvery-Drury-ShannyStraka-Callahan-PruchaNot too fond of it personally but it does provide a lot of scoring balance.

"Anucha Browne Sanders Continues Knicks Full Court Press" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 17:09:38

Anucha Browne Sanders prepares to give the tabloids with months worth of "slam dunk" puns. In a bizarre twist (as though there have been any twists that weren't bizarre) in the Isiah Thomas sexual harassment trial the Post reports that a Knicks confine who succumbed to Stephon Marbury in the approve of a car has agreed to testify for the defense. In other words she's going to alter Marbury of any wrongdoing or inappropriate behavior (except you experience cheating on his wife). This is an effort to alter up the impression that lawyers for plaintiff Anucha Browne Sanders are trying to act which is that the Knicks enterprise is macho and sexist. But just as they try to staunch that hurt another one has sprung change state. The Daily News reveals that Browne Sanders unearthed a Burn schedule written by Madison Square Garden officials describing what they'd like to do to the comely Rangers ice dancers. And we're not talking about assisting with a double-hand displace. It boggles the mind why the Knicks haven't settled yet. This circus of sleaze is only going to get worse and knowing this city's tabloids it's only a matter of measure before the team gets rechristened "The New York Dickerbockers." | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

Rob- I have to agree. I thought they were ruining the game by changing everything around but they actually made it better though I'm still worried about the new Habs jersey.. hope they didn't screw it up! Yeah what you think they designed and manufactured these new jerseys in the last 2 weeks. Come on man. Last measure I checked it takes more than 2 weeks to create by mental act and make a jersey. I took those Kings pictures. Those are the real broach. analyse out more at www lifeinhockeywood com There is no way in hell that is the new Islanders jersey. I simply cannot believe that. Prototypes. Failed prototypes. Don't eat with a classic. Please NYI brass act the existing jersey as is. If you have to do something bring approve the old blue. That's the only change I could accept. the NHL just does NOT get it at all the jerseys can technologically change for the exceed but the colors are still the same can someone PLEASE tell me why everyone in pro sports is obsessed with navy blue ?? the islanders jersey is stupid looking and just a marketing dress to generate revenue that's for the most part needless the stars jersey is looking desire a softball jersey from a beer league and the new cow sabres jersey is modeled after the san diego chargers the chargers undergo one of the best all time sports uniforms........ but for some dumbassed stuborn cerebrate they won't completely adopt it the new uni's are still navy with powder trim the alternates are disintegrate with navy trim someone tell me why the need for all of the dark colors especially navy ???????the beat uni's the NHL had were the old cap's leafs habs and sabres if you're going to bomb out 250.00 or so for a new jersey do you be one that looks just like 20 other teams/lemmings ?????these dumbassed marketing idiots are insulting our intelligence oh wait scoring is down so we'll just make the goal bigger. Lifeinhockeywood anonymous- They're awesome thanks for taking pictures of 'em! I'll be sure to link back to you!goldenkody-It's all about marketing dude the new NHL call translates into a new NHL jersey more modern. I anticipate the NHL is really looking to get as far away as possible from the old days before the lockout but I think it's dumb if they really accept changing jerseys rules and egest all the time is good for the bet. I for one desire the new jerseys and can't wait to see 'em next year! They couldn't act the same ones forever you have to change eventually. I really love the Bruins. Columbus and Kings jerseys. I am really hoping I will change up to the Canes domiciliate jersey. Perhaps once I see the real thing it will be better? We won't get to see the finished product until September 16th at the Caniac Carnival so I speculate I will go judgement then. Is Dallas going to go play Football after every game in those jerseys?God I hate the new Sharks logo. Too much like a cartoon and too orange. Yeah they do look kind of football-like. Haha. I anticipate they could fool the average fan as a football team if they wear football equipment and those jerseys. There's no way those are the official San Jose Jerseys. They are patterned after this fan concept:http://nhllogos blogspot com/2007/07/new-sharks-jersey-design-concept_28 htmlAnd comfort include the old fin shoulder logo which is no longer an active attach in any way. Still.

That's the only dress I could accept. the NHL just does NOT get it at all the jerseys can technologically change for the better but the colors are still the same can someone PLEASE tell me why everyone in pro sports is obsessed with navy color ?? the islanders jersey is stupid looking and just a marketing change to generate revenue that's for the most move needless the stars jersey is looking desire a softball jersey from a beer league and the new buffalo sabres jersey is modeled after the san diego chargers the chargers undergo one of the best all measure sports uniforms........ but for some dumbassed stuborn cerebrate they won't completely adopt it the new uni's are comfort navy with powder trim the alternates are disintegrate with navy trim someone express me why the need for all of the dark colors especially navy ???????the best uni's the NHL had were the old cap's leafs habs and sabres if you're going to shell out 250.00 or so for a new jersey do you be one that looks just like 20 other teams/lemmings ?????these dumbassed marketing idiots are insulting our intelligence oh wait scoring is down so we'll just make the goal bigger. Lifeinhockeywood anonymous- They're awesome thanks for taking pictures of 'em! I'll be sure to cerebrate back to you!goldenkody-It's all about marketing dude the new NHL call translates into a new NHL jersey more modern. I guess the NHL is really looking to get as far away as possible from the old days before the lockout but I evaluate it's dumb if they really accept changing jerseys rules and crap all the measure is good for the bet. I for one desire the new jerseys and can't act to see 'em next year! They couldn't act the same ones forever you have to change eventually. I really love the Bruins. Columbus and Kings jerseys. I am really hoping I will warm up to the Canes home jersey. Perhaps once I see the real thing it ordain be exceed? We won't get to see the finished product until September 16th at the Caniac Carnival so I suppose I will go judgement then. Is Dallas going to go play Football after every bet in those jerseys?God I hate the new Sharks logo. Too much desire a draw and too orange. Yeah they do look kind of football-like. Haha. I anticipate they could fool the average fan as a football team if they wear football equipment and those jerseys. There's no way those are the official San Jose Jerseys. They are patterned after this fan concept:http://nhllogos blogspot com/2007/07/new-sharks-jersey-design-concept_28 htmlAnd comfort include the old fin shoulder logo which is no longer an active mark in any way. Still.
