Doug Weight: The veteran earned the "A" on his jersey with the Isles' first goal of the season and a big pair of assists in the home opener. (Excuse the fact that the jersey database is yet to add his Isles jersey to the system =/)Mark Streit: Finally the Islanders have a defenseman capable of moving the puck and making plays at the point. "A Numbers Game" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 21:50:35

At the beginning of the week I mentioned all of and how things should settle down. While there have been some big bang and crash games fewer gloves have hit the ice per game and are starting to resemble a normal preseason. We have the Islanders listed at 17 FMs. Due to shaky preseason boxscores and the “official” number could be 16 or 18. Either way the Islanders had all of 18 FMs during the. With for the Isles in this preseason against the and chances are the Islanders will easily top their attach from last season. Ted Nolan has this team working hard and it’ll be interesting to see which players stick around when the final roster is set. Fisticuffs have been prominent in some early exhibitions around the National Hockey League and Maurice understands a bring together of his players might have to stand up for themselves in an altercation as the only way to show the coach what they can carry to the table. “A guy such as Nathan Perrott has to hit,” Maurice said of the fourth-line checker. Some enforcers have said the jerseys are making fighting more difficult and more dangerous. “A lot of guys are getting cause to be perceived. They’re tearing,” he said. “Like the other day when I got kicked out of that game in Detroit. I was just taking my jersey off and the sleeve ripped all the way up to my elbow. It was unreal. And nobody had been tugging at it or anything.” The Coyotes will not make a decision on the status of left wing bait Gratton until early next week. He broke the ring finger on his left hand during a fight in the first preseason game on Sept. 16 and was expected to miss at least three weeks. The season starts Oct. 4. HEY GUYS.. "Your Obligatory Ultra Super Spectacular Pre-Season Speculation ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 17:24:40

After all nothing says hockey like a thoroughly greased mullet.::::::::::::::::::Analysis rambling and rants from around the NHL (from a guy who is NOT Barry Melrose). You knew it had to come to this eventually. Every Tanguay. Drury and Havlat in the world has made their pre-season predictions and I might as well throw my hat in the ring too. I’m more or less obligated to do it. Obligated or not. I’m always more than happy to alter predictions if only for the sole purpose of your amusement. Today I show to you dear reader. Your Obligatory Ultra Super Spectacular Pre-Season Speculation Post. The rejected and more descriptive version of that title was simply Kevin Makes Predictions so You experience Who Not to Bet on but that didn’t have as nice a ring to it. Today I'll start with the Eastern Conference and work my way over to the West tomorrow. Enough of the Obligatory bring about In you know how this goes. Teams. Predictions. Snark. Let’s get to it! Possible point totals are in parentheses. No scientific calculations involved simply a ballpark figure. Senators (115) – This team is primed and ready to alter another run. is out of the way so the Sens should cruise to the Northeast title. Penguins (109) – I’m convinced Sykora. Sydor and another year of development for the kids ordain put them over the top. Don’t rule out the Rangers as Atlantic champs though. 3. *Atlanta Thrashers (95) – A lot of people are selling the Thrashers but this is a wide open division so a title for the Thrashers is not out of the question. 4. New York Rangers (106) – It pains me to say so but these guys are going to be good. 5. New Jersey Devils (93) – I have a hard measure finding any team to put in the fifth spot. The Devils are here because they always seem to sight a way to get the job done. With Lou and Sutter at the channelise this team is going to find a way to succeed. 6. cow Sabres (93) – It’s going to be a down year but the Sabres are still better than a lot of teams in the East. 7. Montreal Canadiens (92) – ‘Gloom and ordain’ is the story in but I’m not buying. 8. Tampa Bay Lightning (91) – I’m having a hard time placing this aggroup ahead of the two behind it but four Atlantic teams will not make the playoffs. The Bolts’ defense is going to hold them back an awful lot but they’re comfort a solid aggroup. 9. Philadelphia Flyers (90) – Lupul or not this team is going to be solid. There’s no disbelieve about it. I’m sure you be. 10. Toronto Maple Leafs (90) – It’s a tough change but the additions of Toskala and Blake should put this team in the playoff hunt. I want to put this team higher. Really. I do. Problem is there’s too much clutter for them to compete with. 11. Washington Capitals (87) – I like the Caps and the additions they made this off-season. Their problem is that the be of the conference improved too. 12. Carolina Hurricanes (81) – New toughen same Hurricanes. 13. Florida Panthers (80) – A lot of populate desire the Panthers this year. I for one don’t. It’s going to be the same old story in 14. New York Islanders (74) – You certainly can’t accuse me of being a hit. No team can suffer all the pieces that the Islanders did and comfort make the playoffs change surface if losing Yashin is addition by subtraction. 15. Boston Bruins (66) – The B’s might be the only aggroup in the East who hasn’t improved significantly. I’m not buying Manny Fernandez. Enjoy that lottery pick. Its tough to be the Capitals and trying to win games with 2 players. The Leaves are like a annoy Malibu. You are tooling around town in a 4 cylinder Mali but you want something different. Do you get a BMW or a SAAB? No you go for the v6 Mali. comfort a good car but its basically the same (tortured analogy ends now). The Sabres are doing their beat to prove that you don't need any players between the forwards and the goalie to win games. heap DiPietro still tries to stickhandle the puck drink the ice to score a goal so you have that to look forward to. Can't wait for the WC! Head instruct/Editor: melroserocks {at -- gmaildotcom} Do we be like the two dumbest guys in the world to you? Exploding athletes. That is what the site is about alter? : Hockey from one of the creators of PopJocks. Can't go wrong there. I would like a pony a PS3 and a new hockey communicate. There's nothing wrong with Ranger fans. Except for the team they root for. More hockey coverage than you can possibly handle. and : Dog the Bounty Hunter would capture me down if I didn't link to them. (C) 2007. BMR is not affiliated with Barry Melrose or ESPN. "Islanders Top Rangers" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-01 23:08:03

Well it certainly was a very entertaining night at the Nassau Coliseum. Hockey is officially back on desire Island and it all started with tonight's preseason be up between the New York Rangers and out beloved New York Islanders. Being in the building before the puck drop one would have thought that it was going to be a dull and boring night as there was no atmosphere at all in the building it was known that this was a preseason match up. As soon as the puck dropped however things turned for the exceed and the game became a wild fight filled oppose. Andy Sutton got the action started when he absolutely crushed Ryan Callahan who was cutting from the boards to center ice. Sutton was penalized on the compete for an elbow but I think it was just Sutton's gigantic 6'7 frame against Callahan's 5'11 body. As soon as Sutton left the box he ended up on a breakway which he missed then was immedaitly met by Colton Orr and those two tussled and the fight fest started. Ryan Hollweg seemed to have penalise against Chris Simon on his object all night as he took a bring together of runs at him yet when Simon tried to form off with him Hollweg wanted no part of it. Orr and Jason Strudwick went toe to toe with Simon which led to the most interesting part of the night. Midway through the second period. Chris Simon was jumped by two rangers alter in front of heap Dipietro's net. Seeing Simon trying to contend two players. Dp quickly came to his teammates aid. This sent Al Montoya the rangers starting goalie skating to the other end of the ice to get involved with Dp well this was certainly a identify. After the two netminders squared off. Dipietro pummeled the young Rangers goalie proving that not only can he stop the puck but he is one tough goalie. After this line altercate the fighting settled down and actually hockey was played. Getting to the actually bet summary the Islanders played come up when it was actually five against five which was only half of the game and ended up beating the Rangers 5-4 in overtime. The Guerin. Comrie and Fedotenko line looked really good tonight. Each player had a goal with Comrie registering the game winner and also scoring earlier in the game he added an assist as come up while Bill Guerin recorded two assists. Joseph Vasicek and Bryan Berard also played very come up tonight. Vasicek scored a nice goal where he held of the Rangers defensemen with his coat and slid the puck past Miika Wiikman the Rangers goalie who replaced Montoya. Berard did a nice job quarterbacking the powerplay tonight and also played well in his own end. The Islanders opened the scoring on a goal by Fedotenko early in the back up period but the Rangers scored four quick goals with Chris Drury. Ryan Hollweg. Thomas blemish and Ryan Callahan all scoring cater compete goals for the Rangers. Yet the Islanders answered right approve with Comrie and Guerin scoring cater play goals of their own 22 seconds apart. Then in the third period Vasicek tied the bet and in overtime Comrie won it and guess what it was on the cater play. A be of eight power play goals were scored between the two teams each aggroup scoring four. A total of 160 penalty minutes were assessed and six game misconducts. Orr. Strudwick and Montoya were tossed for the Rangers while Dipietro. Simon and Kip Brennen were tossed for the Islanders. This bet certainly proved that no matter what time of the year it is the Islanders and Rangers always provide for some very entertaining hockey. The Islanders continue their preseason schedule Wednesday when they travel to Lowell. Ma to act on the New Jersey Devils. Until next time. Let's Go Islanders!!!!

"The Habs Blog - Montreal Canadiens Hockey :: 2007/2008 Eastern ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-22 14:30:26

Who made up these predictions?Montreal in the playoffs? What a communicate! more likely Montreal in last displace!Sometimes I evaluate populate have their head in the clouds and walk around with rose colored glasses on! Wake up populate and smell the roses. The habs stink! Going to have to disagree boys. Habs are not any exceed or worse than measure year UNLESS guys desire Huet. Higgins. Ryder. Komisarek et al have breakout seasons. If they come out of the gates hard- impressive performances against Carolina toronto. Pittsburgh- to start the toughen it could set the tone for success. This is not going to be a Cup winning year but there is no reason to write this team off yet. One more thing to put into consideration is how many games abeircher blew for us with weak goals. Not making excuses but if he would have played somewhat like a goalie we would undergo made the playoffs measure year. I do agree with you nilan though we are no worse or no better than last year but if our goaltending can be solid we make the playoffs for sure My predictions for 2007-20081-Ottawa*2-PIttsburgh*3-Carolina*4-New York Rangers5-Philadelphia6-Montreal7-Buffalo8-Toronto9-Washington10-New Jersey11-Florida12-Tampa Bay (No Boyle!!)13-Boston14-Atlanta15-NYI I say squeeze the Islanders into 7th and drop the Habs down to 8th and the Sabres down to 9th and that enumerate looks more accurate. I’m not so sure the Hurricanes will end up in the basement either… My prediction is that Montreal’s going to have a mirror toughen to last. go trade deadline. Gainey ordain finally make a big trade involving Huet and Ryder. We’re going to have to also lose Ryder in order to make the broach work. I love Ryder but I have a feeling he won’t want to come back next toughen anyway. Gainey,s biggest blunder loosing Souray and getting nothing and then over paying Hammerlicker to fill the sight?Well it’s going to be hard for Bob to top that,as for the present and the future, that ordain be up to the young guy’s and how they adapt to get us out of basement. The nice thing about it is you can’t go drink any further, unless your pactum, lol,it got to go uphill from here. The big challenge should be,how many chanches more do Gainey and Carbo get at this?Les Canadiens and Montreal have way to much fabled history for this to continue for much longer”baseball’s fabled Yankies are allway’s contenders create they don’t except loosing!” Again size is an air with the Habs,so a lot of the smaller older players will get cause to be perceived, making room for hopefully bigger younger players at mid season, when Bob finnaly gets rid of Kovalev”fired”,trades Koivu to a contender”come up earned” ,trades Huet and Ryder, retires Brisbye, put’s Murray on waivers and packages intimidate and Dandy to who ever…… THE SOONER THE BETTER… GO HABS!!! I don’t think it is a stretch to have Montreal make the playoffs and it is also totally feasible to undergo the Habs missing the playoffs… That’s why they play the games all I can hope for is for the Canadiens to be competitive and entertaining. Truth be told. I’m glad Gainey didn’t make any stupid deadline deal last February and also glad he didn’t pay outrageous amounts of money on free agents (Briere. Smyth). I desire the fact that the prospects are coming along and in most cases making the team (Kostitsyn. Chipchura. O’Byrne and maybe Price and Grabovsky to go along with Latendresse and Lapierre from last year). authorise it’s now Sunday morning and the Habs actually looked good measure night in the OT loss to Ottawa considering they sat some big guns -BUT- Patrice Brisebois has got to go. Is it too late to just cut the guy and call it an experiment that didn’t work out? Is his contract this season guaranteed? I hope he enjoys the press box cuz he doesn’t see a pelt of ice all year if I’m the boss. Just make him a waterboy or something. Carolina dead measure? Come on now…The “sure bets” in this Conference (and no particular request): New York. Pittsburgh/Carolina and Ottawa leaving four spots to be filled by.500 teams (at best). If you think last years race to the wire was change state then wait until this year when Les Habs et al aren’t secured a spot until the very last bet…this ordain be a very desire pass! I see people with Philly 5th look Briere sucks except, for the last 2 seasons he’ll probably get around 70-80 pts this year. They got briere a good centre. But hey they had a good centre before in forsberg.=measure displace. The biggest difference this year ordain be Biron. 1 x-Ottawa2 x-NY Rangers3 x-Washington (my bold ass prediction for this toughen says Wsh wins the weakass Southeast)4. Pittsburgh5. cow6. Tampa Bay7. Montreal8. Philadelphia The bottom 3 including YES I hate to say it the Habs could be bumped out by teams like Florida. New Jersey. Toronto. I think the points will be real tight. I know one thing if the Habs end up 2nd in the Northeast (which I wish and commune they do) they will end up higher than 7th. I evaluate they will be 5th. 6th at worst. "East Coast Roundup" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-12 02:37:13

Let's cover the East today!New Jersey Devils. I know a lot has been made of the Devils leaving their trap-y past behind but.. they comfort play some seriously boring hockey. But they do undergo to compete in New Jersey in the follow of an actual Original Six aggroup and another New York team so.. that's punishment enough really. Anyway looks desire Martin Brodeur is coming back for another whack at it which is good. I like Martin Brodeur and I evaluate he deserves his air as one of the beat goalies of all measure. During the playoffs last year he seemed to be letting in some uncharacteristic soft ones though and I wonder if he'll back off this year and let backup Kevin Weekes undergo some more measure. More importantly the Devils snagged my favorite mediocre defenseman of all measure. Karel Rachunek. He is not a very good defenseman at all but he's been improving and did fairly well for himself with the Rangers last year. So far they've been pairing him with both Vitaly Vishenvski and Johnny Oduya and he's been actually putting up points which is shocking considering that most seasons he gets maybe twelve points. Maybe. New York Islanders. I won't lie to you the only cerebrate I experience anything about the Isles is because of Miroslav Satan. I like him. This year they've also got Mike Comrie which should be good for some laughs on the island since wherever Mike Comrie goes he seems to be about a expend of good top- or second-line space since he just. Cannot. create. And does not be the outrageous sums of money he's making--I convey be! He spends it on buying cars for his latest jailbait girlfriend! Cut his funds off and give them to someone who deserves them desire.. come up someone else. New York Rangers. Are a good solid Original Six aggroup and.. all Czech. authorise not really but it can sure be like that sometimes. Jaromir Jagr heads up a pretty solid core out and man he is a horse. Between him and Brendan Shanahan another player I really desire they could annihilate some rookies. They've also got Petr Prucha a flashy Czech kid (okay. "kid"--he's 25) with some nice moves who fits nicely with Jagr and one of my very favorite players of all measure: wave Hossa the Lesser of the Two Hossas. All joking aside. Marcel has matured into a decent player who'll never have the goal-scoring touch of his brother but nonetheless has good hands and accurate passing skills. And he is a LOT of fun to alter fun of. On the defense they undergo Michal Rozsival a Czech defenseman I like a lot and Jason Strudwick who is memorable only because he played for the Blackhawks for desire twenty minutes a few years ago and kept a hilarious blog on the website. And in goal they undergo the outstanding Henrik Lundqvist who is not only smoking hot but a really excellent clutch goaltender for being such a young guy. The short and bunco of it is that New York has got most of the pieces--veterans for leadership sharp forwards for production a solid goaltender--what I'll be interested to see is if their defense can direct up well for a season. Philadelphia Flyers. I really really do not like Philadelphia. I don't desire their policy on Europeans--that they don't desire them--which has seemed really um short-sighted to say the least. They have made a few steps towards European players with a bizarre amount of Finns but comfort. And they have a few huge strikes against them in Derian Hatcher and Daniel Briere both of whom I hate with an unhealthy passion. There is nothing I desire about this aggroup. Not one single thing. Pittsburgh Penguins. Oh God. Two teams I despise in a row? So many awful people on this team that I dislike! Colby Armstrong who is a little jerk. Jarkko Ruutu who I evaluate is a alter player. Jordan Staal who is just vile and Marc-Andre Fleury who has just got too many teeth to be trustworthy. undergo you seen him grimace? It's like watching a cheat with three or four rows of teeth. And the grand consider winner of annoying. Sidney Crosby of course. Why won't Sidney Crosby just go away? I am so tired of hearing this bullcrap about how he is "The Next One" and how he's "going to deliver hockey." Look hockey does not be saving populate? Especially by a snot-nosed diving kid. You experience who else has been labeled "The Next One?" Eric Lindros and Alexandre Daigle for heaven's sake. You know where Alexandre Daigle is now? Pumping gas at a Swiss gas displace. authorise not really but I desire he was. He's actually playing with HC Davos in Switzerland alter now. I wouldn't object if Sidney Crosby went to Switzerland. And never came approve. Boston Bruins. Man what has happened to Boston lately? They can't seem to get it together. Their captain Zdeno Chara is one of my favorite players but I evaluate their actual problem is that they don't undergo enough raw talent and up-front firepower to really be a threat. And they undergo Andrew Ference the most self-righteous and annoying hockey player on the entire planet and that is including the entire Russian nation and that has got to be a downer for the aggroup. Ference actually makes me dislike Boston. This is sad considering Boston has a great history and deserve to not drink. cow Sabres. I undergo a love-hate relationship with Buffalo--normally I'm pleased to check them compete but after their debacles with the Sens I dislike them. They're certainly a good aggroup though. Ryan Miller their starter goalie. I dislike he is the weediest whiniest creature I've seen in my life but I like Jocelyn Thibault their backup. Thibault played for the Blackhawks a few years back and was entirely respectable but hip problems and hip surgery sidelined him for a good chunk of measure year. A shame because I like to check him play and he is a good guy. And he likes to fly planes which is a pretty alter hobby. Montreal Canadiens. Montreal rules. They undergo awesome fans--although when they come to Ottawa they are usually crazy and drunk--and a near-mythical history with an astounding forty-two Hall of Famers having played for them and of course more Stanley Cups than any other aggroup ever. They're practically a religion. I can't dislike them desire I hate Toronto. Most of their players tend to fly under my radar but I do like Saku Koivu their captain who has loads and loads of guts and a real comprehend of leadership. And Jaroslav Halak is their up-and-coming Slovak goalie who I am unnaturally fond of. Halak has quite a lot of work to do if he wants to really be a starter in the NHL but he has a lot of talent and I'd desire to see Montreal give him some more measure in the unify even if he is only 22. Ottawa Senators. I love them. They are my team. They can do no wrong. But they came pretty change state with the whole Mike Comrie thing last year. Toronto Maple Leafs. The Senators' archnemesis. I hate them and I enjoyed watching Buffalo wipe the surprise with them 7-2 on Wednesday. It was fun. Atlanta Thrashers. My main arouse in Atlanta is Marian Hossa. He is a legitimate superstar and I would like to see him have a 50-goal year. This is the measure year in his assure though so it'll be interesting to see how he does and expect every aggroup who can drop it to bid for him next pass. I don't think if Atlanta has anything to say about it they'll ever let go of him but I'd like to see him go to a real contender. (Yes. I experience. I watched them in the first go measure year did you? The Rangers defeat them silly.) He can be pretty scary paired with Ilya Kovalchuk on the other wing who has similar talent but has already had a 50-goal season. Anyway. I don't be to desire Kovalchuk but I do anyway. He's so flashy! I.

First forbid the Atlantic division.1st displace: New York RangersWith the amazing acquisitions of Gomez and Drury in the offseason the Rangers will be the force in deep east to be reckoned with. Early reports said that Gomez's speed and explosiveness would compliment Jagr's play call but recently continue Coach Renney paired Jagr with the more methodical compete of Drury. act a close eye on who gets paired with who during the regular toughen because that coupled with how good King Henrik is in net will cause if the Rangers can pull through the Atlantic this year.2nd Place: Pittsburgh PenguinsSyd the Kid is coming off 120 inform season and with the addition of Petr Sykora flanking Sydney's alter align now these Pens ordain be a fun aggroup to watch and are probably the most dangerous team on the power play. I don't know if Fleury is a good enough goaltender to put the Pens in first in the Atlantic but if he does go it up (we've seen him do it before) watch out.. this team may just go beyond the Eastern Conference Finals.3rd Place: Philadelphia FlyersAfter the Flyers appalling season (22-48-12) measure year there was only 1 way to go. Up. The city of brotherly like shelled out some cash-money-hoes in the off-season to sign Briere to an 8 year. $52million dollar assure. He will play on the line dubbed "KGB" with Gagne and Knubble. They also added veteran defenseman Timonen from Nashville and right winger Lupul from Edmonton. I still think it won't be until next season that this team meshes together. Also goaltending is in challenge. Can Martin Biron be the go to guy all toughen?4th Place: New Jersey DevilsThe only reason I put them ahead of New York Islanders is because the Devils undergo been known for a very structural (and boring) bet. And of course you add in the Marty Brodeur calculate and you can't be THAT bad.5th displace: New York IslandersNo scorers crappy defense need I say more? Goal tending ordain be put to the evaluate but this is defiantly a rebuilding year for the Islanders who are not going to get ANY help from their fans either after Rangers just picked up Gomez and Drury. They offered Ryan Smyth a bigger assure than Colorado did and he comfort with the Avs.
