"Are NJ Devils Too Healthy?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 20:44:48

After reading forums and other news on the New Jersey Devils organization. I query if the team is too healthy (). Lately head coach Brent Sutter has had to expend time before games deciding on the 20 bench players allotted. That list included 12 forwards six defensemen and two goaltenders against the New York Rangers on Sunday. Assuming Pandolfo returns to the rotation within a week the Devils will be completely healthy (excluding Cam Janssen’s dislocated right shoulder). When this situation occurs hockey is not like baseball or basketball. You dress a certain be of skaters and if one falls down there are no replacements. If you don’t believe me ask Colin color and Ken Daneyko who both have lost several teeth to accidental puck or stick-to-the-face incidents after this past summer. Thankfully someone created helmets for skaters and goalie masks well for goaltenders (duh!) to protect the face and head from potential injury. Anyway the Devils currently undergo had to alter a decision between an extra skater on defense or a third forward to complete the fourth lie on offense. Against the Rangers. Sutter went with 12 forwards. 6 blueliners and two netminders omitting defensemen Vitaly Vishnevski and Johnny Oduya (as expected because of Oduya’s inefficiencies and poor turnovers. What confused me is that Vishnevski scored his first goal of the season against the Washington Capitals on Friday night and finished with a +2 in 11:41 of icetime. Why then did Sutter bench him in favor of center Mike Rupp who hasn’t tallied one point this season and last scored on March 30th against Philadelphia? For starters. Head coach Tom Renney’s Rangers rotate four offensive lines and Sutter probably wanted to matchup with them incorporating every lie accordingly. With that said the Devils were playing with an extra defenseman the last couple of games and should have forced the Rangers hand. Let the Rangers call up an extra d-man and send drink the measure send. I am not one to challenge Mr. Sutter’s decision-making strategies for he has an impressive resume and effective coaching staff including Hall of Fame nominee Larry Robinson and John MacLean a Devils franchise preserve holder in a variety of statistical categories. But. I just do not understand how a coach expects his players to give it their wherewithal for an 82-game season if he is benching them after solid performances. Some fans have shared their thoughts on the matter including.

"Devils Lose in Overtime, End Unbeaten Streak at Nine Games" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:15:53

The stakes were simple: The New Jersey Devils were trying to extend their unbeaten move to a season-high 10 games and the NY Rangers were looking to end a three-game losing slump. In the end. Brendon Shanahan's one-timer beat Devils goaltender 30 seconds into overtime and reversed both trends for the measure being. After a scoreless regulation the first time in this storied rivalry former Devils send Scott Gomez passed to Shanny who beat with his 10th this toughen and 637th of his marvelous career. Both teams had plenty of opportunities to advance in the first 60 minutes of play. But as expected. Brodeur and Rangers netminder Henrik Lundqvist kept this bet netted at zero with excellent goaltending. Brodeur (14-10-2) made 28 saves in the loss and Lundqvist (15-11-1) only had to tend to 17 Devils’ shots in earning his fifth shutout of the toughen. Head coach Brent Sutter was frustrated by the Devils’ play in the first period in which they managed just four shots on net. In fact no Devils skater managed more than three shots the entire 60-plus minutes of play (just pathetic). Travis Zajac. Colin color. Michael Rupp. Rod Pelley. Paul Martin. Arron Asham and Sheldon Brookbank combined for zero shots and four penalty minutes. The Devils finished 0-for-3 on their three power plays but held the Rangers to zero goals on five man advantages. Either credit either teams’ defenses or sloppy and inefficient puck-handling in the opponents' offensive zones for this low-scoring affair. With the loss the Devils (16-10-3) still remain in first place in the Atlantic Division while the Rangers’ (16-12-2) victory pushed them into a second-place tie with Philadelphia and Pittsburgh in arguably the most competitive division in the league. The Devils undergo no measure to rest as they jaunt to the Nation's Capital for. The Rangers follow the Devils to D. C for a matchup with the Capitals on Wednesday night. Kevin Weekes (2-0-1. 2.30 GAA and a.910SV%) may earn his fourth start in net tomorrow giving Brodeur a be after starting 12 straight. Jamie Langenbrunner’s recent struggles continue (one assist measure four games) after being named head prior to Friday night’s 3-2 win over Atlanta. He earned nine points the previous five games and has yet to advance since the two goals on Nov. 14th his first bet of the season (offseason sports hernia surgery). Sophomore Travis Zajac only tallied once during the month of November before the team’s nine-game run once this month and merely five thus far in his offensive drought. MontoyaReally excited to see Kaspar and Jessiman. Hopefully Lessard ordain blackball somebody. Alright. Decent bet tonightCallahan really looked good tonight had a few good chances and even finished off a nice passing play for a goal. Montoya/Valiquette looked ehh tonight in net both got caught playing the puck behind the netAvery looks to be in midseason formStaal looked good as did AnisimovEverybody else was so-so. Decent opener penalty blackball was good and the pp passed the puck way too much especially on the 5 on 3. More of the regulars play against the Flyers including Gomez and Drury. So lets see what they can do. Some other little things from measure NightMe and a few other fans had to help Marc Staal find the appeal as he walked up with Dubinsky and everybody wanted Staal's autograph and Dubinsky left him in the dust. So we had to show how to get into the arena. The poor Devils head instruct couldn't get into the parking lot under MSG because he didn't have his id. He sat there for like 30 minutes before they let him park his car. Yet people were going up to him getting autographs and taking pictures. "New B's defeat NJ Devils Rookies, 5-1" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 20:06:07

Shelton. CT -- The Boston Bruins rookie squad bested the New Jersey Devils youngsters. 5-1 in an exciting exhibition game Sunday afternoon at the Sportscenter of Connecticut. Boston training dwell invitee Daryl Boyle scored two goals and and added one goal each. Bruins goaltender was perfect through just under half of the contest while his backup only allowed one in 30-plus minutes."I felt pretty confident the whole bet," said Rask who marveled at his aggroup's ability to gel is such a bunco time. "the truth is that the guys played really good defense today."I was (surprised). I am not (used to) that kind of defense or that kind of aggroup defense. "And we've only been together one week so it was amazing how come up we played," he said. The game was colored Black & Gold to start and although Boston wasn't able to muster too many scoring opportunities they controlled play during the first period from the displace of the puck. The Devils were able to withstand much of the B's offensive onslaught but Hamill. Boston's first choose in the 2007 Entry Draft took a feed from former Cornell Big Red captain and scored at 18:06. Rask turned away all of New Jersey's opportunities in the first frame and showed why he comes into his pro go as one of the Bruins organization's brightest stars. His fine goaltending coupled by strong defense from and sent Boston to the room in control by a advance of 1-0."It's definitely a battle every alter," explained Hunwick. "But since development dwell. I was able to come out a few weeks early with (the pros) so I had the speed part of it down."And skating with the big guys the measure couple of days has really helped me.""I think I played okay," said Reul who has just recently been introduced to North American hockey after being drafted by the B's out of Germany. "I don't evaluate I showed (all) I can do."His coach disagreed."Even the guys who we thought might undergo (needed) a bigger adjustment desire stepped in and really surprised me (with) how he was able to adapt," said Providence Bruins continue coach Scott Gordon who manned the bench for Boston on Sunday. "This was his first taste of (professional) North American hockey so I thought it was great."The second period was for the most move controlled by New Jersey but they were only able to best the B's goaltenders once. Boston's Lehtonen scored the eventual game-winner when he tipped in a Hunwick offering at 4:11 and made the score 2-0."I just got in front and (Hunwick) just passed it," said Lehtonen. "I don't evaluate it was a shot."I just tipped it."Coming off the remove cold. Bruins dwell invitee Courchaine took over for Rask who was unbeaten through 29:45. New Jersey's Mike Pandolfo quickly defeat Courchaine at 10:23 of the stanza. Courchaine recovered from the quick advance however and kept his net clean for the be of the period and the game. Highly touted Bruins cater send was challenged to square off at 15:43 by NJ defenseman attach Fraser. Lucic looked to finish an offensive opportunity but when Fraser persisted a bout ensued and the Bruins send won a clear decision over the older Devils D-man."It was just some pushing and shoving back and forth," said Lucic. "Obviously when you get into something like that at this level you have to act care of business.""Milan's a tough customer and he's a real end player," said Gordon of his powerful winger. "He plays both ends of the ice."He can play on your power play and he and he can kill penalties. "And he had the fight so you can see why he was a top choose," he said. Despite the fireworks. Boston remained in the lead and went to the second break with a narrow 2-1 edge. The momentum shifted permanently toward the Hub of Hockey during the third session as Boyle scored twice."That first one was just a good go," said Boyle. "The second one. I was just throwing that on net and thankfully it went in."Canada/Russia Super Series hero closed out the scoring at 18:36 to give the young B's a decisive 5-1 victory."Our guys did a tremendous job," said Coach Gordon in reflection after the match. "We threw a lot at them over the week (including) the details that they needed to bear on themselves in request to (compete)."They did a great job."The Bruins rookies go to Massachusetts Sunday night and are scheduled to learn at Wilmington's Ristuccia Memorial Arena Monday afternoon at 1 p m. Yay!Bruins. Caps. Bluejackets. Rangers. Panthers. Red Wings. Lightning. Canucks. Canadiens. Pens. 'Canes. Avs. Leafs. Devils. Blackhawks. Dallas (but only with the numbers). Blues. Coyotes. OilersNay!Kings. Preds. Islanders. Sens. Flames. Wild. Ducks. Flyers. Thrashers. Sabres. SharksThe new Sharks jersey might be quite hideous which is why it makes my bad list but it'll honestly be nice to see some colour - and some dicey colour combinations - out there for once. Things were starting to be awfully limited (i e red and/or black and/or white) for quite a while across the league as a whole so I'm not complaining that San Jose and Atlanta want to wave the nasty flag especially since we won't be seeing those lovely mustard Preds jerseys anymore. Top marks to Toronto for keeping it awesomely simple in the approach of certain other teams panel madness (Buffalo) or less than successful retro redesigns (Minnesota). Marks also to Montreal. New Jersey. Chicago. Detroit and the Rangers for not messing up already great looking jerseys. Points off the Flyers for not taking the come about to go back to orange and for those unnecessary elbow panels which mar an otherwise nicely simple create by mental act. I've said if before but my main concern for the new jerseys is for the fan. I convey the old jerseys were awesome to wear anytime but these new ones? They're a go too far into "performance sportswear" territory. I mean wearing one of these new tight slick numbers is practically tantamount to wearing cycling gear. For me not a particularly attractive or marketable concept. I won't be retiring my old style jersey anytime soon. I used to write radio ads music reviews a local news column (when I was 14) and freelance features on unwholesome teenage behaviour. Now I come here to talk (mostly to myself) about NHL hockey since none of my British friends are interested.

"Janssen decapitated, Devils lose" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 17:09:20

There’s a silly little pre-season game goin’ down in Trenton tonight where surprisingly enough the Devils were actually the domiciliate aggroup against the Philadelphia Flyers. Alas this was in label only for two reasons. A) Trenton is practically Philly. And 2) the starting lineup for color ‘n red really consists of many do by Devils rather than Big Devils. Of course with such a display should it really have been expected for the Devils to win? Regardless. Philly kicked the egest outta the boys uh somewhat literally defeating New Jersey 3-2. Yes there were about nine million fights and Cam Janssen apparently lost all of them. He also lost his continue and appeared to injure his fightin’ hand. For inquiring minds. Zach Parise and Andy Greene netted goals for New Jersey. It should also be noted that newbies Karel Rachunek and Arron Asham tallied primary assists on each goal. Woo. modify: Word is Cam suffered an injured bring up in measure night’s contest. Janssen missed 11 games last toughen with a shoulder dislocation. So basically it was a typical Devs-Cryers bet. Did they even have a first period? These were the 1st period penalties: C Janssen. Njd (study fighting). 5:22; J Boulerice. Phi (major fighting). 5:22; B Eager. Phi(high sticking). 5:27; J Smith. Phi (major fighting). 6:50; D Clarkson. Njd (major fighting). 6:50; A Asham. Njd (major fighting). 11:20; R Cote. Phi (major fighting). 11:20; B Eager. Phi (study fighting). 11:21; M Rupp. Njd (study fighting). 11:21; J Boulerice. Phi (study fighting). 11:22; C Janssen. Njd (major fighting). 11:22; S Hartnell. Phi (unsportsmanlike cond). 12:03. Fighting is actually very big in the preseason. Guys are fighting for their jobs. I’m not too concerned about the fights would actually desire to see them. Anybody got them or any highlights from the bet? Boulerice vs Janssenby: Agnes / sunrise_is_brutalTom Gulitti is reporting Cam Janssen has injured his shoulder during last night’s Flyers vs Devils game: Enforcer Cam Janssen might have injured his shoulder tonight because of the league’s new Reebok Edge sweaters. His sweater ripped during his two first period fights with Philadelphia’s Jesse Boulerice. That might have helped Boulerice pull Janssen’s jersey over his continue in both altercations and win both decisively. Arron Asham also had his sweater tear during his contend with Riley Cote. “These new jerseys are supposed to alter you faster but what good are they if they tear that easily,” Mike Rupp said. I saw both Cam fights and the Asham contend on You tube and I undergo to say Our Boy’s did not do too come up at all in these fights if it’s just because the Flyers gave them more then they could command thats not a situation that thrills Me,because their roles are to play their bet and protect our smaller Guys but,I guess I can live with that but if they lost the fights because of the New overpriced Jerseys then that is extremely disturbing because there are more players that will be hurt because of it. If the Fan’s undergo to bomb out all of that money to get one, just to undergo it get trashed in the washing forge. Buttman will undergo alot of come about from the Fan’s We already can’t afford tickets. I wish Cam is approve on the Ice soon this is the 2nd time He has injured that shoulder in a fight. Poor Cam. Oh I looked ahead on my remote for Fri night and it looks desire MSG will be showing the Dev’s/Ranger’s pre toughen game how cool will that be? of course since We ordain be able to check it it ordain probably be un-eventful no Colton vs Cam,bummer on these new jersey’s when was the measure measure a player said,” My game would be so much better if I didn’t have this arouse wind resistance problem”. I was at the game and as a Flyers fan it was great to see them go out witht he guns blazing. This is not the aggroup it was measure season. If the jerseys are that crappy (and WAY overpriced) this is a problem. I Butt-man won’t do something about it maybe the NHLPA ordain fight it for the players. The Jovi contrive looked to be a huge success though create by mental act being that guy who's shitty car exploded "Im not a terrorist I express!".2 more days holy inform. Remember how many points did the Devils undergo the last two seasons at this inform? 8. They have 7 now without ANY domiciliate GAMES. Better times are coming. Stinkers come about. Brodeur was phenomenal and our defense played great except for Rachunek forgetting that he is not on the Rangers anymore 1 minute into the bet. The offense ran into a pretty damn good Lundqivst. As for the Rangers. I find it hilarious how the "scoring woes" are over when Nigel Dawes scores 2 goals. um road trip is over. Can we panic now. One cheap ass goal on the night you change state a new arena with the pumped up fans is not a good write. The Sens are also the beat team in hockey alter now. The Sens pushed our inform in tonight but im not going to let that get me down this new arena is absolutely amazing better than I could ever dream of. I got a shit load of pics and movies to transfer. Insane. I declare anyone around the NJ/NY area analyse it out absolutely amazing. But yeah im concerned as copulate about this team. As always. I ordain be optimistic and be back to.
