"NHL.com: 'Bentley tops NCAA surprises'" posted by ~Ray

Rated No. 9 in preseason Atlantic Hockey polls coach Ryan Soderquist's Falcons are getting down to business at a educate where the focus always is on business. Ranked among the top business schools in the nation. Bentley usually was known more for "MBA" than "PK" and "GAA." Bentley has settled into contention with league powers RIT. Air compel and Army for a second-half run at their first bid at an NCAA tournament furnish in March. "My goal has been to develop an identity about what the program is; what you're going to be is probably my biggest learning turn," said sixth-year coach Soderquist a Falcons alum and the school's all-time leading scorer. "We're kind of there now. We respect all our opponents but we don't fear them. Maybe two three years ago we feared some. As desire as we're all on the same page and be to win we can get it done." "I definitely evaluate the bet against Western Michigan was the big turning point," Soderquist said. "We didn't win the bet (3-1) but I honestly felt that we outplayed them. Nine times out of 10 you win that bet. Then we come back and take Air compel. 4-0 in our building the next game." A year ago Air Force took a 3-1 bring about into the measure eight minutes in the NCAA West Regional last March before bowing to Minnesota. 4-3. The Falcons are in the midst of an important portion of their schedule but weren't able to win either game of a home-and-home series against RIT. "There's no disbelieve we have three league games before the break -- three at home," said Soderquist. "We need to play 60 minutes." Bentley is where they are because of their 21-year-old freshman goalie. Joe Calvi. Calvi totaled 73 saves in both RIT contests. The freshman goalie's save percentage is.931 with a goals-against average of 2.13. Calvi also won league Goaltender of the Month honors for November. "educate is going well," said Calvi. "Working hard going to the tutors and getting help where I need it. Losing a little sleep here and there but it's going to be worth it in the end. Definitely the hockey part is more stress on the mind and the be." "I thought the goaltending would be a work in progress," the coach said. "looking at a 50-50 split into the season -- like a 1A. 1B. "Size Matters" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:06:40

News and Views on what is happening in both the Central College Hockey Association and Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Please email any questions/comments/information to westerncollegehockey@gmail com Two prospective college hockey players chose to furnish up their NCAA eligibility this week in favor of playing in the CHL. There are many reasons that a player may choose to play hockey in the CHL but it seems the first cerebrate that always gets brought up north of the border is their success in sending players to the NHL. I'm not intentionally picking on these two players because I can evaluate of countless other examples of similar players over the past couple of years but both players were shorter than 5 feet 10 inches tall. What are the odds of a player that small making it to the NHL? If the current NHL is any indication those odds are not very good. Looking at the current roster of every NHL team there are a grand be of 17 skaters listed at 5-9 or less. Here is the list:5-9Eric PerrinDarren HaydarDerek RoyJiri HudlerBrett LebdaMike CammalleriScott NicholJordin TootooSean AveryMartin StrakaNiko KapanenMartin St. LouisMike Weaver5-8Sergei SamsonovChris ConnerFrancis Bouillon5-7Brian GiontaBy my count there are four Europeans five CHL players and 8 NCAA players on that list. Out of the 8 NCAA players. 7 of them played four seasons of NCAA hockey. The fact is if you're a player of that size the NCAA clearly looks like the beat option. Say what you ordain about the new NHL and size not making much of a difference it's still incredibly rare for a player of that size to alter the NHL. And while a player can alter a decent living playing hockey in the minor leagues or in Europe it's unlikely he'll be "set for life" if he's not playing a few years in the NHL. So why not try to earn a college scholarship and get a solid education and a four-year degree that can be put to good use as soon as your playing career is over? Furthermore. I evaluate the ability to play four years in college has helped a lot of those players develop more and make them the players they are today. Of course it's impossible to say but if a player like St. Louis or Gionta was forced to turn pro at age 20. I think it's unlikely they'd be the player they are today. The extra years in a developmental setting really helped them. I understand that everyone wants to follow the ultimate dream. But reality has to negociate at some point and what may be the best despatch for some isn't necessarily the beat route for all players. You are implying that one is throwing away all edcuational opportunities by going to the CHL. Are you not aware of the generous educational scholarships offered by the CHL?Do you not realize that there are come up over 500 ex CHLers playing Canadian University hockey and earning degrees?Did you not know that there undergo been hundreds of former CHL players that have gone on to coummuity colleges and trade schools to change state craftsmen mechanics computer technicians policemen fire fighters and paramedics. I am sure you do know that the CHL is the do develepmental unify in the world.... if you didn't just analyse out the latest NHL rosters and statistics. Seems desire the CHL is not only a good choice but probably the best choice one can alter! if college hockey were all about education than the argument you alter could be considered however the fact that college hockey players aren't getting degrees in their four years at the university needs to be acknowlegded. Most of the top programs: Minnesota. Wisc.. North Dakota aren't graduating many of their players definitely not in the four years they have eligibility to compete. There are benefits to the CHL if you are a top line scorer top D man or feature netminder. Yes it will alter these guys quicker for the National Hockey League if they are develop physically and mentally. E. G. Carey Price (WHL)Tri City - NHL(Montreal)However. The marginal players on the CHL teams generally do not go on after their CHL days and play Canadian University and there is nothing do by with that. NCAA offers 4 years of development mostly in a practice setting to work on skills skating etc. If you are good enough the NHL ordain sight you earlier than 4 years. Andy McDonald Free Agent in College now has a Stanley Cup go with Anaheim Ducks BlackhawksBoth avenues are fine depending on what your goals in life. There are positive situations and negitive politics in the CHL and NCAA. I'm confused. Are you now saying that if you really don't undergo a future in hockey then go NCAA but if you be a real hockey go the CHL is the route to go?Make up your mind. The irony in the whole thing is the fact that all you repeatedly do with blogs like this is demonstrate that you are clearly uneducated on the CHL's education packages as well as the opportunities afforded in Canada at the many institutes for higher learning. You experience when player's enumerate their height they usually round up from an inch to an inch and a half. Showing mostly all the 5' 10" players out there are probably 5' 9". coat matters but the top players at each aim are the smart guys with great hands and usually small players. Patrick Kane. #1 pick in 2007 NHL entry draft and currently leading all rookies in points is listed as being 5'10"I have met him several times in the past year (while he played for the London Knights of the CHL) and I would be shocked if he is more than 5'8". I can't believe how pro-NCAA populate disappoint to recognize the CIS as an option. In most cases the CIS schools are at or above the academic standards of most NCAA D-1 hockey-playing schools. Granted the CIS doesn't have major media coverage of its hockey so its "out of site out of mind" in most circles - a problem they be to communicate. However as mentioned many top-end players who go to the NCAA always be to leave early for the pro $$$ or go to the CHL for more ice time. Somehow the pro NCAA guys never realize that many CHL grads get the CIS with a degree (a degree they can start up to 2 years earlier now while in the CHL). Guess its a story no pro-NCAA person wants anyone to know about! It really is a matter of what kind of experience the kid wants. A player goes to a team hoping to get the chance to create his weaknesseses into strengths by getting a certain write of coaching or playing experience from a instruct that believes in him or "has his back" while he gets the chance to unfold. In the convey time he wants a displace that will showcase his strengths. D-1 or CHL?.. its all aggroup and player specific. I made my millions not as a player (because I was in at the top for only a cup of coffee) and not because of my college (undergrad) degree.. because the field of my degree had nothing to do with my handle of business success (and it ended up coming from a relatively unknown mid sized mid-west regional university that definately is no better than the colleges in Canada). My (business) success came for the same reason that I mentioned above... I looked for the beat opportunities that allowed me to create my weaknesses into strengths in a way where my "back was covered" during the growth stage. But most of all I fought (ferociously) to continually put myself in a position to showcase my strengths. D-1 college or CHL?.. well. "who is going to have your approve and wants you the most" seems to be the best question to ask.

"International Incident" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 13:31:14

While fans writers and aggroup personnel have gone back and forth over the years about the relative merits of NCAA hockey and its various feeder leagues versus the Canadian Hockey League system -- generally referred to simply as "major junior" -- there's no real basis for head-to-head comparison because there's no real on-ice competition. This weekend the CCM Junior Classic ordain pit two teams from the United States Hockey League the Omaha Lancers and the Indiana Ice against the Quebec Remparts and Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec study Junior Hockey League in a series of games arranged largely by Lancers team president and owner Luc Robitaille and Remparts co-owner general manager and head instruct Patrick Roy. "Ultimately," said Lancers continue instruct Mike Hastings. "it was two friends communicating with each other in Luc and Patrick saying. `Hey you experience what? I've got a junior team in the States you've got a junior aggroup there how about if we get together and play a couple of exhibitions?'" It's easy to see however how this series can be more than that. Each year a handful of college players -- most recently Jim O'Brien of Minnesota and Tony Romano of Cornell -- opt to leave school and go the major junior despatch and in the past two years highly-touted recruits desire -bound Trevor Lewis. Ferris express recruit Pat abandon and most recently act Josh Unice undergo changed their minds and gone the major junior route less than two months before they were scheduled to arrive on campus. Such decisions -- not to have in mind rumors that have sprung up surrounding the likes of former forward Chris Bourque and current defenseman Simon Danis-Pepin -- undergo been known to raise questions about where college hockey stands as an avenue of development for the NHL. As such it's only natural to be curious about how the likely future collegians of the USHL will lade up on the ice against two teams from the QMJHL including the Oceanic which counts Sidney Crosby among its alumni. "I evaluate it's really interesting," said continue instruct Doc DelCastillo a former assistant coach in the USHL with the Lancers and the Waterloo Black Hawks and former continue coach of the now-defunct Rochester Mustangs. "The USHL is finally getting to the inform where it's a recognized unify it's a very competitive league that is comparable to those type of leagues. We'll see. The only thing you can do is go up and play." However the principals in this weekend's series are more focused on the two games each of their teams ordain play than any grand questions that may be influenced by this weekend's series. head coach Clément Jodoin. "It won't be our beat lineup. I see it as a challenge. It's a new assay for all of us and it should be interesting. We're still going to work hard especially for young players coming up on our team. All the new kids in this organization have to be something right now. I evaluate it's good for everybody." said. "but I don't think you can really control people debating. Really this is just a friendly couple of games between those friends [Robitalle and Roy] and it's really about hockey going out and playing hockey. I don't think it's anything bigger than that. I think there's a lot of interest but ultimately it's about hockey." Likewise while curious about this weekend's games. DelCastillo is wary of putting any greater importance on the outcomes than that of four exhibition games. "It's early," DelCastillo said. "but I evaluate it's one of those things where a lot of people are going to be interested to see what the scores are and how competitive it is. Can you go and say. `Well these guys are better than this aggroup?' No because it's early and this time of the season it's so early in junior hockey that if one team's been on the ice for three weeks and one team's been on for three days there's a big difference but I think there's a lot of arouse." "I evaluate USA Hockey has proven quite a lot," Jodoin said. "There's always comparisons that are going to be made. It doesn't be what [happens]. We're two countries there's a big rivalry and we have to improve. The same thing in the said. "For the most move. I evaluate populate on the outside are trying to fan the flames [about this series] and alter it a lot bigger than it is. "On Monday we had an opportunity to go and tour the [Hockey] Hall of Fame both teams. Luc set that up. We spent over an hour and a half two hours and it was unique because we got to see the beginning and where it's at now but also they undergo things there the go through all avenues of hockey. The USHL is in there. [ forward] Brock Bradford's jersey is in there from the USHL All-Star Game when it was in For this pass though the Indiana and Omaha players ordain act their places on the ice without worrying about their "place in the hockey world," and take in the totality of the experience from the forbid at the Hall of Fame in Toronto as move of the nearly 1500-mile bus move to eating at Wayne Gretzky's restaurant to touring the attach displace and the Montreal Canadiens' locker room. How it will compete out on the ice remains to be seen but in the end the bet and its players seem to be the biggest winners. "I think it's good for the bet of hockey," DelCastillo said. "It's something I'm interested in to see how things move out."

schedule and tickets plus Tickets from Buy-Football-tickets com ! Be the 13th man with your NFL for all teams including ! Razorgator has your and including and Buy and sell on and more available! Our tickets are alter here. We have great and seats. If/when UBC does go NCAA what conference would they join for hockey? I'm assuming they'd go D-1 because of the larger budget and closer opponents. The closest D-3 offers them is two teams in Minnesota as their closes opponenets. D-1 has two in Alaska. 3 in Colorado. North Dakota. Omaha. NE and then we get to Minnesota. The closest D-3 offers them is two teams in Minnesota as their closes opponenets. D-1 has two in Alaska. 3 in Colorado. North Dakota. Omaha. NE and then we get to Minnesota. : - and then the 'Birds would get absolutely smoked for at least two years and probably more due to the fact that CHL grads can't play in the NCAA while they can in the CIS. Takes a while to rebuild a team from the bottom up. UBC may be authorise in sports like basketball and volleyball (probably exceed than that in volleyball actually CanWest has been the strongest volleyball conference on the continent for a while now) and maybe swimming/diving.. but in hockey and football they'd probably get destroyed for a good while. Not to mention the fringe sports that I evaluate probably acquire comparably little funding in Canada compared to what they get in the States (soccer rugby baseball etc.). I think in Hockey they could climb the learning curve pretty quickly currently the CIS is all about luring in former CHL guys the didn't go on to the pros and obviously they are off limits to NCAA.. but fortunately it being Canada and all there is no lack of hockey players available. Basketball and Football I evaluate will be a lot of tough sledding... especially football since there isn't a nearly the minor football infrastructure in Canada as from the states and that you need so many guys. What strikes me as odd is that UBC has been so average in CIS sports over the years. They undergo recently done well in basketball but befoire that were very much #2 in their own province. Their football team has had some good years but is overall add up. Their hockey team is usually.500 at beat. Canada West volleyball is a step up from any league they could possibly join. Their crowds are no better than anybody else's. I am surprised this is comfort around. I can't see them joining NCAA for anything else object basketball really. And even that would be at the lower levels of the NCAA. If any football program should be allowed a change at the NCAA (not Div.1 obviously) it should be Laval and not UBC. If/when UBC does go NCAA what conference would they connect for hockey? I'm assuming they'd go D-1 because of the larger budget and closer opponents. They'd certainly go D1 in hockey a study motivation in the move is to be able to offer more athletic scholarships and there are none in D3. There would be some sort of transition period (currently in D1 it is four or five years) so they'd be able to adapt. With those additional scholarships they'd find ways to be competitive in other sports too. The bigger question is whether D1 would have them and whether there's a D1 conference that would want them. I am surprised this is still around. I can't see them joining NCAA for anything else except basketball really. And even that would be at the lower levels of the NCAA. If any football program should be allowed a crack at the NCAA (not Div.1 obviously) it should be Laval and not UBC. Their football team has had some good years but is overall average. Their hockey aggroup is usually.500 at best. Canada West volleyball is a step up from any league they could possibly join. Their crowds are no better than anybody else's. Yes but so what? The difference between CIS and NCAA is the willingness to invest resources into athletics. Not any of the above ps - their football aggroup is hardly "overall average". That's only recently - the last decade or so What strikes me as odd is that UBC has been so add up in CIS sports over the years. Not any of the above ps - their football aggroup is hardly "overall add up". That's only recently - the last decade or so I don't evaluate (and I presume UBC doesn't think) it will be the "same product". I think a Canadian schedule in the NCAA will get more attention in Canada than even the best CIS program. Also there are still serious limits on what a university can spend on athletics within the CIS system. These don't exist in the NCAA system. If UBC went div 1 NCAA and everyone else in Canada stayed in the CIS (and the CIS doesn't radically change). UBC could end up with quite a few teams stronger than they are now and give a higher profile for the university. I am surprised this is still around. I can't see them joining NCAA for anything else object basketball really..

"Waking Up Sleeping Dogs" posted by ~Ray

No big Kyle Turris news this evening - the Wisconsin freshman was held off the scoresheet Wednesday in Canada's 4-1 win over Russia in bet 6 of the Super Series - but I'm going to be in Canada this weekend for a family event and undergo every intention of being in front of a TV at 10 p m. ET to check Game 7 from go away to finish. However. I have something to say that involves another Minnesota compete. At the assay of offending the Gopher fans - because everyone knows I undergo it in for them (ha ha ha) - I had a thought this evening on the subject of gargantuan upsets. After hearing today about Appalachian State football merchandisde becoming a big seller in Columbus. Ohio following the football win over Michigan last Saturday. I couldn't help but be reminded of the fans in Grand Forks who bought Holy go across game-worn jerseys from the Crusaders' upset of Minnesota in the 2006 NCAA tournament. The more I thought about it. I couldn't back up but wonder if the Gophers had it worse that night in Grand Forks than the Wolverine football players did last Saturday. OK let's get the obvious move out of the way: the scope of measure Saturday's bet as move of the fabric of our national sports culture doesn't change surface compare. It's huge it'll be remembered and talked about and brought up constantly. However. Michigan was at home for the game. When they could only look on stunned as the Mountaineers celebrated as measure expired the 100,000 plus fans around them in the Big House were just as stunned possibly more so but feeling much the same thing as the players and coaches. The Gophers on the other hand played Holy go across at Ralph Engelstad Arena with the Sioux set to approach Michigan in the next game. Of cover the North Dakota fans showed up early to the Ralph to boo the Gophers and cheer the Crusaders. When Tyler McGregor scored the game-winner for Holy go across in overtime not only did the Gophers undergo to evaluate the fact they had suffered the biggest upset in NCAA hockey history but they had to do so with an arena beat of North Dakota fans jumping up and drink and cheering with Kool and the Gang's "Celebration" blaring over the PA and the entire building cheering and celebrating the Gophers' defeat. Imagine if Michigan's embarrassment this past Saturday had taken displace in Ohio Stadium in lie of a crowd full of Buckeye fans. Scary no?
