"Arbour returns as Isles rally to beat Pens" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-13 12:11:02

Uniondale. NY (Betting Express) - Miroslav Satan scored two goals both in the third period as the rallied to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins. 3-2 at Nassau Coliseum. It was a good result in the return of legendary Islanders coach Al Arbour who was brought back in place of head coach Ted Nolan for one game his 1,500th with the club. "This is my second home. I was on Long Island 27 years and I liked every bit of it and the fans were always good even when we were having bad days they were always behind us," Arbour said. "I'd like to thank them for coming out tonight. I hear it was a sellout. They were very vocal." Trent Hunter added a goal and Rick DiPietro and Wade Dubielewicz combined to make 23 saves for the Islanders who have won four of their last five. Josef Vasicek and Marc-Andre Bergeron had assists for New York which went ahead of Pittsburgh in the Atlantic Division standings. "There are certain games you win on hard work and certain games you win on skill and sometimes you will yourself and tonight I think it was one of those games," Nolan said. "If you're going to write a script you can't write one better and that's what we jokingly told Al going out the third period we lost the first period we tied the second let's go win the third it's written and that's how it ended up." Ryan Malone and Tyler Kennedy scored for the Penguins who have now dropped four of their last five games. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 36 shots for Pittsburgh. Satan who had just one goal before Saturday's game was the spark in coming back from a 2-1 deficit entering the third period. About five minutes into the final 20 minutes the Islanders collected the puck in their defensive zone as Vasicek started racing across the neutral zone. He accepted a pass just as he crossed the blue line and skated to the right circle. When he got near the right faceoff circle. Vasicek stopped and dished a pass to Satan skating up the middle of the ice and Satan put it past Fleury. Nearly 12 minutes later. Satan struck again. An Isles shot blasted from the right side of the blue line caromed around to the left side where Bergeron controlled the puck and rocketed a shot back towards net. Fleury made the save with his left leg pad but the puck bounced out to Satan who put it in for the deciding score. Though it was a less-than-ideal contest for DiPietro who left in the second period after a collision with Sidney Crosby's stick. As the Penguins' captain skated by the right side of the net with about six minutes left in the period his stick caught DiPietro in the eye. The Isles' starting goaltender came out of the game in line for the loss as his team struggled to get back in the game. They outshot the Penguins 29-19 through two periods but had just one goal to show for it. That came 8:20 into the second period after the Islanders had just ended a power play when Hunter slapped one from the slot past Fleury. Pittsburgh raced out to a 2-0 lead after Malone scored on the power play with just under eight minutes to go in the first period. Kennedy notched the second Penguins goal - and his first the year 1:48 into the second period on a strange shot that went into the top left corner of the net but wasn't initially called a goal. Crosby's assist extended his points streak to 12 consecutive games... Pittsburgh has scored at least one power play goal in all 13 games this season.

The Pittsburgh Penguins lost their back up game in a row in which they were leading by two goals. Tonights debacle game at the hands of the New York Islanders. The Islanders set this up as a gimmick bet in which former bench boss Al Arbour was signed to a one day contract in order to coach in his 1500 bet. He didn't do any coaching he just stood back there and looked stupid. Al Arbour "coached" his 1500th gameAnyways approve to relevant hockey stories. The Penguins started off the scoring on a Ryan Malone powerplay goal. Malone was obviously set up Crosby and Malkin. Crosby's point move has reached a personal best 12 games. The Penguins also extended their streak of scoring a powerplay goal in every bet played this season. Ryan Malone loves playing the Isles. The Penguins made it 2-0 on rookie Tyler Kennedy's first NHL goal. It took a few minutes for the rookie to get the good news as the ever inept NHL referees completely missed the goal when it was scored. Only after a stoppage in play did the call from the booth go down to let the officials know they missed one. Trent Hunter got the Isle on the come in at 8:20 of the back up period. Pens goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury has nothing but bad luck as the puck took a weird bounce of the glass and ended up alter on Hunter's stick. Miroslav Satan scored two third period goals to displace the Islanders to victory. Poop blowing two goal leads on the road is a bad thing. Notes: Colby Armstrong sat out tonight due to poor performance. Ryan Whitney is day-to-day with a groin injury as well. The Penguins head instruct Michele Therrien will probably be looking to change up the lines as the Pens undergo had no offense (except for Kennedy's goal) from any of the furnish three lines.

From the pre-game video tribute to the post-game banner ceremony the Islanders made Al Arbour's 1500th game something special. New York pulled through in true Arbour fashion by coming approve from a two goal deficit to top Pittsburgh 3-2 in front of an electric Coliseum displace. The Islanders came out looking strong in the opening minutes of period one but a nifty cater play be by the Ryan Malone and the Pittsburgh cater play at 7:54 of the first killed the Isles' momentum. Pittsburgh added to their lead when rookie Tyler Kennedy roofed one past DiPietro early in the second. The goal was initially waved off but after video replay it was deemed to have gone in. Sid the Kid drew 4 minutes as Dipietro drew blood and Wade Dubielewicz came on in relief of DiPietro who didn't go. The penalty prompted a emit of boos for Crosby every time he touched the puck. New York put a lot of pressure on the Penguins penalty kill but couldn't end through. The momentum carried over though into the third. 5 minutes in. "Al Arbour Wins 740" posted by ~Ray

As awful as that Notre Dame oppose was to watch on Saturday afternoon. I had a nice walk drink Memory Lane on Saturday night. Al Arbour came back to coach the Islanders in a one-night save against the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Nassau Coliseum. Arbour had coached 1,499 games with his two stints on Long Island and the team came up with the idea of bringing Al back for one final game to make it an even 1,500. (He coached his last game 13 years ago.)It was so special to see the man who led the Islanders to four Stanley Cups in the early 1980s approve behind the Islander bench again. He had current Islanders coach Ted Nolan beside him as his assistant. Pittsburgh led for most of the oppose 2-0 but the Islanders came back in the third with three goals two by Miroslav Satan. The Coliseum erupted when Satan put in the game-winner with just more than two minutes to play. The Islanders held on for the win and furnish Arbour his 740th win. 740 wins and 1,500 games are both NHL records for a instruct with one unify. After the bet the club had a special ceremony honoring Al as they brought out his family as well as many of his former players desire Mike Bossy. Bryan Trottier and Clark Gilles. The "739" banner that hangs in the rafters for Arbour was lowered and a new "1500" one was brought out and raised to the top of the Coliseum to the cheers of the sellout displace who stayed to witness it. (A new "740" banner will be unveiled later this season when the Stanley Cup championship teams are honored as come up.)It was a very special moment to see and the Islanders did a wonderful job honoring their beloved. Hall of Fame instruct. Al Arbour has always been one of the classier men in sports and was genuinely touched by the outpouring of affection for him by the Islanders fans. It brought approve such great memories for me when the Islanders were the class of the NHL and winning four consecutive titles. It sure doesn't seem desire it was over 25 years ago. But for one night they were ruling the sit once again. It was good to see you back behind the remove again. Al. Thanks for the sweet memories.
