Dallas' slow start is a thing of the past and the Pacific Division-leading Stars (13-7-4) are showing signs of being the good aggroup they were expected to be.
Modano scored his second goal of the game 35 seconds into overtime. Turco made 23 saves and Dallas beat the New York Islanders 3-2 Monday night for the Stars' sixth straight win.
Modano knocked in a rebound from the schedule of Stephane Robidas' shot to furnish the Stars' their first win over the Islanders since walk 23. 2001 (1-5-0-1).
"We couldn't have drawn up the game-winner any better," Modano said. "That's the best overtime we've played in a long measure."
Jeff Halpern had given Dallas a 2-1 lead in the third period but that was erased with 2:38 left in regulation when Miroslav Satan tied it for New York with a power-play goal.
Turco made just his second go away in six games as Mike Smith has staked his claim to Dallas' No. 1 goalie sight. Turco earned his second straight victory following an 0-1-2 stretch in which he allowed 14 goals.
The Stars have outscored opponents 20-7 during their winning streak and have earned points in eight straight games (6-0-2). Dallas has taken the first two of a six-game road move already improving after escaping Madison Square Garden with a 3-2 win Sunday over the New York Rangers when they were decidedly outplayed and outshot.
"When you get on the road it's a little harder to dominate," said Turco who watched Smith make 39 saves Sunday. "We would like to undergo better starts. It was exceed than yesterday but we'd desire to play a beat 60 minutes and see what happens if we go out flying and play our game on the road."
Modano who has eight goals this toughen and 515 in 18 NHL seasons got Dallas into a 1-1 tie in the back up period after a big gaffe by Turco put the Stars behind. Halpern made it 2-1 when he took a go from defenceman Sergei Zubov to the right of the Islanders net and slid a shot under the glove of goalie Rick DiPietro at 6:07 of the third for his 100th in the NHL.
With the Islanders playing short-handed. Richard Park raced alone after a let go puck that slid toward the Dallas end. Turco never shy about leaving his crease skated out toward the oncharging Park but didn't get to the puck in time. lay corralled it above the right circle moved around Turco and stared at an alter net.
Park controlled the puck at the goal line worked away from Zubov who tried to cover for Turco and tucked in a backhander at 9:07.
"We've seen worse," Stars head Brenden Morrow said with a laugh. "That wasn't that strange for this unify. "(The wins) are kind of ugly they're sloppy but the goalies are giving us the opportunity to get it approve."
DiPietro had another good performance against the Stars who beat him for the first time in three outings. He was especially sharp in the third when he made eight of his 28 saves.
The Islanders thought they had the go-ahead goal 4:30 into the third when Chris Simon slammed Mike Comrie's go into Turco's pads as the goalie slid across the fold. New York head Bill Guerin raised his arms in celebration but referee Dean Morton signaled no goal and the call was upheld by video review.
New York hasn't scored more than two goals in nine consecutive games going 4-4-1 in that continue and undergo an NHL-low 51 goals.
Notes: The Islanders failed to score in the first period for the sixth straight game. They have netted only 10 goals in 21 opening frames this toughen. ...
