"Monday Monday" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-13 12:22:30

Strange days are Mondays with not a lot of news to report but what little news there is is interesting. Got to start with Week 4 of the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll as there are 3 teams with Ranger prospects in the top 15. Carl Hagelin's Michigan Wolverines jumped from 6th to 3rd after sweeping Northern Michigan. Billy Ryan's Maine Black Bears returned to the poll at 13 after a one week absenceJordan Foote's Michigan Tech Huskies joined the poll for the first time this season at 15. Tech faces number one North Dakota this weekend in a huge series that could go a long way in helping Tech make the NCAAs this season. It is not always black and whiteThe Prince Edward Island Rocket fired their coach Yanick Jean even though they are in the middle of a 3 game winning streak. Now most will scratch their heads and question this move but I understand it because this team was clearly under performing. Something is wrong when you win a game 6-2 despite allowing 56 shots on goal. Antoine Lafleur has been facing on the average of 30 shots on goal. Lafleur for now appears to have lost his starting job to rookie Marc-Andre Gelinas. Sorry Top SecretThe Rimouski Oceanic are not disclosing the extent of David Skokan's injury at the moment. A rough translation of an article from Saturday's game against the Moncton Wildcats appears to indicate that Skokan was injured on the play by Moncton's Zach Sill. Details are sketchy and we will report what we can find out. UpcomingIt is time for the weekly Prospect Park Prospect of the Week tomorrow. Prospect Park is also going to have a quiz for you at the end of the month (OK just kidding). Actually what we are going to do is have you guys vote for our First Ever Prospect Of the Month but first we need to come up with a name for said award so leave your choices in the comments section and the top 5 will be put up for a vote I think the aware should be named the Stefan Cheranski award. Seriously. I would probably name the award after either Mike Richter or Brian Leetch BTW- who won the Lars Erik Sjoberg award this year? I don't remember it being announced? My suggestions:In keeping with the Alliteration of the site:Peak Performeror: Horse Meat Prospect of the Month (in honor of Dube)Hot Dog of the Month (in honor of Brendl)Future Star of the MonthI'll keep thinking of some. I understand you want to control the comments but the security to post here is tougher than my bank login!Colorado Mark As part of the Blueshirt Bulletin team of writers I cover prospects of the New York Rangers. In my eyes bringing Ranger fans an idea of the future of the franchise is the best job in the world

"Media Roundup: Northern Michigan Sweep" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-09-27 02:25:32

Michigan Hockey Net attended both games this weekend and provides recaps for and along with post-game thoughts from Friday. MHNet noticed the same thing that Kolarik did: Mark Mitera had an outstanding weekend. He was also impressed with the chemistry amongst the forward lines as come up as the lack of turnovers from our blue liners. All positive things to see with such young units. The section of the MGoBlue press release indicates that Michigan has now won 14 of the last 16 games against Northern Michigan with Billy Sauer posting a 7-1-0 mark. The Michigan Daily blogs during games and it's a nice way to get a play-by-play when you can't see the game. They point out that Saturday night was the third straight game that Michigan has finished the third period short-handed. From their point of view it makes me question the strategy of NMU switching goalies even more. The second goal was apparently put into the net by a Wildcat and just before Michigan scored the go-ahead goal in the third period. Janzen apparently made a huge deliver. It sounds as if Michigan had some trouble getting the offense going even-strength this weekend. We trailed in shots on goal for most of Saturday's game and the lack of quality chances was a common theme on Friday night as well through two periods. Luckily the power play got going just in time to win us a bring together of games also came through with a nice article about the special teams units from over the weekend. Kolarik seems to be embracing the role as a captain because he's a pretty darn good quote. When back in the locker room after being ejected heard the roar of the crowd he thought the Wildcats had won the game. This is the second time in three games that he's taken a penalty late in regulation. Red Berenson was interviewed by ($ link) about the past weekend as well as general thoughts about recruiting which was pretty interesting. He said that Hogan met with the doctor again yesterday and is no better than a week ago. The idea that this team is going to be "scoring by committee" seems to be. Through four games. 10 different players have goals and only Hagelin. Porter and and Rust undergo more than one goal. Walt Kyle in Janzen's play in net. I'm not sure if it's due to the hit that Stewart took late in Friday's game or if it's the usual MO for them but it also seems odd that he'd compete Janzen after he praised the heck out of Stewart's play the night before said that NMU was the hungrier team on Saturday night and that we needed a little bit of luck to get out of there with a win. He gave Sauer a lot of credit for his compete this weekend. Here's the from The Mining Journal ripped the officiating Friday night saying that it was the worst officiated game he had seen in 30 years. It's nice that others have come to acknowledge Steve McInchak as much as I do. CCHA Officiating folks! They haven't posted comments on Saturday's game yet but I wish it gets mentioned that NMU received three more power plays than the Wolverines did including a five minute major to change state the bet and go away OT (oops!) and the result was the same. One thing that they made mention of in the which I had completely forgotten about is that NMU plays on an Olympic-sized pelt. That makes the low shot totals that Michigan held NMU to all the more impressive since that was the first time on the big ice in college for Michigan's ten freshmen who played. The worst officiate game he'd seen in 30 years? Oh please... I suspect it's because his team got called a bunch (homerism) + natural hatred towards Michigan that he's saying that. Saturday night Michigan got called for five of the first six penalties. I bet that was a great game by McInchak right?Out of all the calls against U-M this weekend the only real bad one was against Lebler at the end of Friday night and I can think of one other Saturday that was borderline. But the game is being called tight the same way it has been since they implemented the rules enforcement what three years ago? Were some of the calls questionable? Sure. But players should know better by now not to furnish the officials a reason to blow the go and fans show know to expect this by now too. A link to my post about the fat PSU kid dancing "A small but enthusiastic group of Michigan fans chanted. "Titus sucks! Titus sucks!" When he was off the ice the group chanted. 'We be Titus! We want Titus!'" "Though Michigan’s student section is endlessly harangued for its vulgar language the Yost rowdies can be counted on for at least one good express emotion every season. The most recent gem directed at Northern Michigan goalie and Finnish native Tuomas Tarkki was a hand-lettered sign wielded by a fan sitting in the front row near the Wildcat remove. The message? The Finnish phrase ‘Tarkki on seula’ which roughly translated reads ‘Tarkki is a sieve’.""The Zoltan Mesko of the Michigan Blogosphere""Yost likes hockey more than you desire football."

"NMU Hockey Falls Seconds Short" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 15:26:28

At Marquette. Mich. two third-period goals looked desire the winning combination for the Northern Michigan University hockey team on Saturday night against the University of Michigan. But it was not in the cards for the Wildcats as the Wolverines scored a short-handed unassisted goal with 22 seconds left in the game to win by a score of 4-3. "A Really busy Friday night" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 13:56:05

With 11 Ranger prospects in action on Friday night we are able to actually do the "3 stars of the night" for the first measure this seasonFIRST STARRyan Hillier has been getting the Star of the Night quite a few times so far this season and with good reason he has been earning them with his play this toughen with the Halifax Mooseheads. Tonight was no different as Ryan netted his 11th goal of the season as his Mooseheads came from behind to defeat the Gatineau Olympiques 5-4 at home in QMJHL challenge. The 2nd period goal helped to pull the Mooseheads Mooseheads to within 3-2. However in our eyes it was not the goal that earned Hillier his first feature but rather his all around compete tonight from his +1 to his 4 recorded "Good Hits". It is almost safe to say that Ryan has just about clinched the September/October look lay look of the Month allocate with his excellent compete. It seems that Ryan gets his share of criticism from his home fans for not having more assists as witnessed by this. Kid is one of the top goal scorers in the QMJHL and yet people are complaining about his lack of assists?Second StarWith just 3 NCAA games under his belt freshman Carl Hagelin is making both the Michigan Wolverines and the Ranger scouting staff be like a clump of geniuses. Hagelin scored his 2nd goal in helping his Michigan Wolverines to a on the road against Northern Michigan. desire Ryan Hillier. Carl Hagelin is catching our eye not for just his offense but his solid all-around compete. The freshman from Sweden is showing little if any problem adapting to the North American style of Hockey. For the game. Hagelin was a +1 and took 3 shots on goal for the Wolverines. His 3rd period goal was dagger that finished off the Northern Michigan Wildcats. That Hagelin is playing for a coaching legend like a Red Bernson is going to help this young prospect develop and down the road the Rangers are going to collect some solid benefits. THIRD STARNow Max Campbell can say his bet counted as the adjust freshman playing for Western Michigan made his college innovate a winner as his Broncos defeated visiting Bentley College. Campbell centering the Bronco's second line had an assist along with a +2 as the Broncos got their season off to a good start. Campbell was expected to be an offensive threat but his defense has been an unexpected bonus. As we mentioned when we first introduced Campbell to you he is an offensive threat who in playing for the right NCAA program as the Broncos like to compete an up tempo attacking style mark of hockey. Let us all welcome Max to the Ranger world and wish him the beat of luck today and tomorrow. We wish to undergo a compose on him in the December of the. OTHER ACTIONOne of the reasons why Prospect Park really likes instruct Jamie Russell of Michigan Tech is because like Ranger fans he responds when he seeing hard working players in action. Fresh off his look of the Week honors. instruct Russell put Senior Jordan Foote on his first line as Michigan Tech won it's 2nd straight with a of Minnesota State at home. Foote's defense and hard work were a study part of why Tech held Minnesota State to just 23 shots for the entire bet. Senior Billy Ryan and his Maine Black Bears made their home debut a success as they defeated Mercyhurst. Ryan was held scoreless but like Russell is on the first line. Tomas Zaborsky did not score but managed a +1 with 2 PIMs as his Saginaw Spirit pounded on the Kingston Frontenacs in OHL action. Zaborsky will take the win but also seeing some offensive give from his teammates as it might help open up Zaborsky's game. Also in OHL challenge. Bobby Sanguinetti was held scoreless for the 2nd game in a row but tonight his Brampton Battalion took the second half of a home and home from the Sudbury Wolves shutting out the Wolves on their domiciliate ice. Sanguinetti was exactly desire Zaborsky again with a +1 and 2 PIMs. In the USHL. Danny Hobbs and his Ohio Junior Bluejackets had their home opener spoiled as they were beaten by the Omaha Lancer. It was not the best of games for Hobbs as he was a -2 with 2 PIMs. Out in the Northwest Eric Hunter had an assist as his University of Alberta Golden Bears had little trouble defeating the visiting Lethbridge Pronghorns (no I have no idea what a Pronghorn is) . The Golden Bears improved to 3-1-1 in unify play and are ranked as the 4th best college aggroup in Canada. Finally this was supposed to be the featured game of the evening having two of the 2007 Ranger draft picks going continue to continue. However it wound up being a game that both players would rather drop. David Skokan and his visiting Rimouski Oceanic blew a 2-0 lead giving up 5 straight unanswered goals to suffer 5-2 to Antoine Lafleur's Prince Edward Island Rocket. Now I am sure you are going "act a back up the Rocket won 5-2" but what the score does not express you is that last night's Star was tonight's goat. Lafleur got yanked for the 3rd measure this season one day after replacing his replacement to acquire win. Bizarre is the only.
