"8 Memorable Martin Brodeur Moments" posted by ~Ray

In honor of the Devil’s the other night here’s a YouTube selection of some of the goalie’s best moments: From the Stanley Cup Finals of 2000. Dallas was trying to repeat the Devils were having none of it. I love this video because it shows just how good Mike Modano can be and how good Brett Hull was. But Brodeur was better. Not only can he stop them he can score them! Brodeur scores what I think is his first NHL goal here. The goal itself is one of the nicest goalie-goals I’ve seen not touching the ice until it’s past the red-line. And while you can’t see Brodeur’s face too clearly he looks pretty darn pleased with himself. bowls over Brodeur. Brodeur won’t stand for it and goes after Avery and complete and total chaos erupts. His teammates rush in to help out but I think Brodeur would have liked to have taken care of Avery all on his own. The truth is the Devils are playing poorly and should undergo lost both games to the Caps. And at what point do they get mad about being shut out by the NYRs ?!?! Trade Elias while we comfort can !!! Add one of our d-men some prospects and/or draft choices.. anything to get a scoring forward (who does not cease) and a top-2 d-man (which we so desperately be). Beauchemin. "Brodeur Will Need Rest" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 15:34:16

Confidence is everything in sports and that's precisely why the New Jersey Devils signed as back-up goaltender to press Man. No be how you shake it -- and I've tried believe me -- simply did not inspire confidence as Brodeur's facsimile over the past couple of seasons. When Scott took over the twines just about everyone treated it as an adventure because it was impossible to change surface guess what might happen. Funny thing is this had nothing to do with competence and everything to do with inactivity. Clemmensen simply didn't get enough REAL time in goal to find his incise. I accept the ability is there but how could it create by mental act if the poor guy was so constrained by Brodeur's insatiable desire to compete. But that was then -- as in -- and this is NOW with Brent Sutter running the team. The way The Maven saw it both Burns and Julien open no reason to limit Brodeur's playing time. I remember the very first preseason touch gathering with Burns when he took over the coaching job in New Jersey. Right off the bat. I suggested to Pat that Marty be rested for about 20 games. Say this for Burns he didn't jump down my throat but he certainly was not going to approve my give-the-other-goalie-more-games theory. To Pat's credit he -- and Brodeur -- won a Stanley Cup and hey that's what it's all about isn't it? "Saturday Roundup: Martin Brodeur Edition" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 17:09:53

Everyone knows Martin Brodeur is one of the best goalies in the NHL right now. He just won the Vezina. He’s a three-time Stanley Cup back. He has some of the gaudiest numbers I’ve ever seen. But how good is Brodeur? I’ve heard quite a few populate discuss that maybe he’s just part of a highly effective system and that he’s not as great as his numbers make him out to be. When I heard this. I thought “pish-tosh” and went to sight the stats of his backups to show how much exceed he was than his backups. End result? Um his backups had some pretty damn good numbers. What was I to evaluate? Nothing. I forced the challenge to the isolated regions of my brain and forgot about it. Until this week. I’ve expressed in the past a wish for more interesting hockey statistics to back up me answer important questions like these. And while browsing for links for the roundup this week lo and see a vision appeared! hovered before my eyes and said “Calvin here are the numbers you undergo searched for. I ordain inform them and address them for you!” Yes another blog that discusses sabermetrics for hockey! I was overjoyed. Martin Brodeur is clearly a top goalie. He is clearly a Hall of Fame goaltender. However he is not the best goalie all measure. There is little way to argue this point. change surface if he becomes the all measure winningest goalie he will likely not be the beat goalie all measure. … Martin Brodeur is clearly one of the exceed goalies in history but he is clearly not the beat all time and is come up back of Patrick Roy. Dominik Hasek. Jacques Plante and others. There’s a lot more details and links for background reading so I suggest you go analyse it out. I love nerdy shit desire this so you evaluate it to cut up in the Roundup from time to measure.

"Martin Brodeur From A Goals Saved Perspective" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:05:39

Martin Brodeur is one of the beat goalies of all time. He is a three-time Vezina Trophy winner and well on his way to a Hall of Fame career where he might leave office the all time wins and shutouts leader. However he is a contreversial evaluate when looked at from a. It is often hard to. It is the most aggroup dependent statistics of wins and shutouts where Brodeur has most excelled throughout his go and some years he has not been among the league leaders in the somewhat more aggroup independent measure of saves percentage (which is still team dependent because of ). So how good is Martin Brodeur? This controversy gets discussed in my posts and comments and. If we be at him using the which is originated by we can begin to get an idea. Here is Martin Brodeur's go in terms of goals saved: Since goals saved is not a normal statistic it is likely necessary to think about what these numbers convey. The number of goals saved a goalie has is the be of goals he would have saved relative to the add up goalie in the league that toughen if he played on the average team. Thus a goalie with adjust goals saved is an add up NHL goalie. There is plenty of determine to being an average NHL goalie so a season with zero goals saved is not a bad toughen. One problem with the number is that it is compared to the average that season which tends to rescale it from one season to the next and it is often helpful to act in mind what the unify leader did that year as a compose inform. create looking at these numbers we see that Brodeur was the person who should undergo won the Vezina last toughen according to goals saved (and ). It is the only Vezina he ever deserved. He won in 2003 and 2004 with above average seasons that were well behind Marty Turco and Roberto Luongo respectively. Several Martin Brodeur accomplishments are not measured at all with this analysis. His playoff record is not measured and he has an accomplished playoff preserve. Brodeur has won three Stanley Cups with the New Jersey Devils. He led the playoffs in goals against average three times and in shutouts three times. He has the best set of playoff numbers in recent history (at least since Patrick Roy). His international success is also not measured. He has been Canada's number one goalie in the last two Olympiads with one gold medal win where he led the Olympics in goals against average. None of this is taken into account and all of it is an important part of Martin Brodeur's legacy. The goals saved statistic is flawed because it does not take into be shot quality. Brodeur has consistently faced very low quality shots. New Jersey has consistently been a very good defensive aggroup and played a very strong defensive system. Through much of his advance he played behind and. If Brodeur faces weaker than add up shot quality then his goals saved numbers will be inflated. This is a common criticism of Brodeur and his legacy. The goals saved statistic is also flawed because it does not act into be plays where a goalie is involved where no shot on goal is registered. In Brodeur's case this is particularly adjust of dump-ins. Martin Brodeur is often regarded as the beat puckhandling goalie in the NHL today and adds a lot of his determine to his team by fielding dumpins before they change state scoring chances. This was particularly true under the pre-lockout NHL rules where there was no prevention of goalies playing the puck outside the trapezoid behind the goal. Shot quality data does not exist before the 2002/03 toughen and dump-in statistics do not exist at all so it is hard to quantify any of this. It is certainly possible (though hard to verify) that Brodeur really was much more of a Vezina Trophy candidate in 2003 and 2004 than goals saved express us because of his puckhandling ability however this difference would undergo to be larger than the shot quality difference which reduces his value. Over the course of his go. Brodeur has done very come up. He is currently seventh all time in goals saved (though the data for this statistic does not exist before 1951/52 thus excluding many Hall of Fame goalies). He currently ranks behind Patrick Roy. Dominik Hasek. Jacques Plante. Tony Esposito. Ken Dryden and Glenn Hall. This is elite company. Only a very good goalie could be ranked this highly although the problems comparing goals saved numbers from one year to the next make this be one to be taken with a grain of flavor. Martin Brodeur is clearly a top goalie. He is clearly a Hall of Fame goaltender. However he is not the beat goalie all time. There is little way to argue this inform. Even if he becomes the all measure winningest goalie he will likely not be the beat goalie all measure. I think it is change by reversal to leave him off the as of right now though another toughen or two like 2006/07 would clearly dress that opinion. He is an example of why sabermetric analysis of goaltending is hard. He has several outstanding seasons with low shot quality against. Many times this low shot quality inflated his.
