"Thrashers Unable to Slow Down Leafs" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-13 12:28:53

Marian Hossa had his seven-game point scoring streak snapped tonight after recording nine points (three goals six assists) in that span … Hossa ranks second on the Thrashers with 28 points (12 goals. 16 assists) in 28 games this season. The Thrashers travel to Ottawa for a 7 p m contest against the Senators tomorrow night before returning home for three games next week on Dec. 18 vs. Tampa Bay. Dec. 20 vs. Ottawa and Dec. 22 vs. Montreal … All three home games next week are scheduled for a 7 p m start. - The Penalty Kill. The Thrashers successfully killed off all three penalties allowing only three shots on goal in the process. Kovy continues to get time in spurts while shorthanded and he was successful at putting the leafs on the defensive when they lost control of the puck. The penalty kill is now 29-30 over the last eight games. - Early action. The first period saw both teams miss out on goal scoring opportunities but the Thrashers looked to be skating well and out-shot the Leafs 8-6.. - The power-play. The Thrashers failed to score on either of their power-play opportunities and had trouble setting up in the offensive zone with control of the puck. - Another late goal. For some reason this team is prone to giving up goals in the dying minutes of periods and more often than not it's when they're up by one. If the Thrashers had have been able to go into the third with a lead they likely would have won the game. - The last 5 minutes of the game. The first two goals could partially be attributed to bad luck or an unfortunate mistake. After the Thrashers failed to find the back of the net during their power-play that ended with just over seven minutes remaining the team lost some enthusiasm and Toronto took advantage by scoring the two late goals.. Bullet points for what you missed while having nightmares of Vesa Toskala on a shutouot streak... Leafs come in to the telecommunicate Booth hot as hell. 4-zip. Now it was against Atlanta but still. Leafs are. ONE POINT. Arrrrghhhhh; Awesome piece this morning on TSN's Sportscentre - . The nervous chuckle from Carbo when asked "is it easy coaching an artist?" is priceless; Here's some self-pimping. Pookie and Schnookie (note: may not be their real names) two of who run the excellent are trying to get to the bottom of this whole blogging thing. They are running a series of skill-testing questions and. I sound like a pompous ass and used "imho" about 300 times but otherwise it's semi-coherent. K I'm off to find the perfect male stripper for the game tonight. Ugh. HF29. IMHO (sorry couldn't resist) those were some kick-ass answers to that questionnaire. While I'd normally be upset with anyone who makes me evaluate on a weekend. I have to say you've certainly captured this whole "blogging" thing far more eloquently than I could have. Well done! thx SLC i wrote it during the week so i had some hit cells to think with i can imagine reading it on the weekend was unpleasant Next Habs Game That means something October 10 @ Buffalo what the interwebs are saying about fhf "Vulgar nasty and tasteless"- Greg Wyshynski. HabsFan10 grew up watching Le Demon Blond on Radio-Canada with his unilingual English Dad in a WASPy little town in Maple Leafs country at least until the playoffs each year when he got to hear Danny Gallivan and Dick Irvin because the Leafs played on opposite nights (if they made the playoffs at all). We've heard players do the lie before: "If you can't get up to compete in a Habs-Leaf game then there must be something wrong with you." I think the fans of both teams would accept with that statement. In the meantime here come the Leafs to Montreal on a tear in their measure 8 games. The Habs undergo been absolutely dismal at home but that doesn't mean they can't pull it out against the Leafs who they've beaten in their measure two outings. The Canadiens also played their best game in a month. Thursday at Wachovia. Kid Kostitsyn will get his first taste of peruse action.. hopefully he'll get his first crack at the scoresheet as come up. He'll be up with Koivu and Higgins but no one should be surprised to see him skate a couple of shifts with his brother (barring his injury is not to serious) and Tomas Plekanec. "Game 33 - Leafs at Montreal" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:12:43

Leafs 14-12-6. Habs 15-11-5. John M 9-23Last night's bet in Atlanta was a positive sign that the Leafs as a team are finally doing the small things to be focused whenever it's easy to let it slip tonight's game in Montreal ordain be very similar to the Atlanta game however the temptation to suffer that critical cerebrate ordain be change surface greater amongst the circus atmosphere of the attach Centre during a Leafs - Habs bet. The reason I carry this up is because ever since the beginning of the Pat Quinn era when the focus was more on offensive skill while abandoning any write of defensive game there was always a tendency for the team to tank it after Christmas for several weeks during that inform of the toughen where injuries begin to act it's knell on players this is where a strong commitment to team compete insulates individual weakness that arise from time to time that's how teams like Detroit. Dallas. New Jersey and Colorado kept maintaining consistent records through out the mid 90's and beyond it's no query they horded the Stanley Cup between themselves for that period as come up. The Leafs are probably not change state to achieving such a lofty goal but if they act to do what they've been doing for the last several weeks (I'm not talking about winning here. I mean their commitment to basics) then they'll act to see successes to create on and you never experience what can happen once they get their foot in the playoff door in April 2008 or 2009. Now will they win tonight in Montreal they most certainly ordain as long as they stay focused. The Canadiens are a team who have little in the way of confidence right now and their goaltending can't be relied on to free them out anymore as Christobal Huet has gone down to injury and the load has been left on rookie Carey Price he's has all the skills to be a superstar netminder drink the road but now is not the measure to ask him to carry the aggroup. There's something preventing this Habs team from going anywhere and ten different populate will tell you ten different explanations as to what exactly it is personally I think you can go away with Alexi Kovalev he's both their beat and highest maintenance player and I accept he's playing a large part in killing the dressing dwell and if it's not him then it's someone else. Final - Leafs 5. Habs 4.

"Howard Berger: Leafs Will Probably Need a True No. 1" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 13:36:08

EDMONTON (Sep. 17) -- Andrew Raycroft made a salient point last week when extolling the virtues of a goaltending tandem with the Maple Leafs this toughen. Though he was off the attach with his number (20 of 30 teams). Raycroft accurately indicated that NHL clubs did use two -- sometimes three -- goalies on a fairly regular basis in the 2006-07 season. In fact nine clubs had No. 1 netminders that played in fewer than 55 games including the aggroup with the beat regular-season goals-against add up. Minnesota. Manny Fernandez (44 games) and Niklas Backstrom (41) almost split the chores drink the middle but GM Doug Risebrough understood that the top teams in the unify were using one primary goaltender. Backstrom won the job with his 1.97 GAA and Risebrough traded Fernandez to Boston over the summer. Raycroft failed to mention that 21 of the 30 NHL clubs deployed starting goalies that appeared in at least 55 games (generally considered to be the minimum be of appearances for a true No. 1) and -- most importantly -- the teams that made noise in the Stanley Cup playoffs ALL had undisputed No. 1 puck-stoppers. Ironically the unify that won the Cup (Anaheim) bucked the turn the most. Jean-Sebastien Giguere played in 56 games during the schedule (to 27 for Ilya Bryzgalov) but Giguere clearly went the distance for the Ducks in their championship run measure spring. In fact seven of the eight clubs that advanced to the Conference semifinals were led by stand-out No. 1 goalies who were spelled occasionally by their back-ups but were not involved in tandem arrangements. Here's the run-down. OTTAWA: The Senators obviously didn't accept Ray Emery was the real broach prior to last season and that's why they lured Martin Gerber away from Carolina with a lucrative long-term deal. But. Emery took over for a shaky Gerber and emerged as a clear No. 1 netminder. He played 58 games in the regular toughen; Gerber. 29. Emery then went all the way for Ottawa in its romp to the Eastern Conference call. DETROIT: The ageless Dominik Hasek played in 56 games during the season then took the Wings deep into the Conference final before losing to Anaheim. Chris Osgood got into 21 games. Joey MacDonald played in eight. BUFFALO: It was pretty much all Ryan Miller once again as he played in 67 games. Martin Biron tended goal in 19 before his trade to Philadelphia and Ty Conklin had a mere five assignments. NEW YORK RANGERS: Henrik Lundqvist is the undisputed No. 1 man on Broadway. He played in 70 games during the regular season then was single-handedly responsible for a near-upset of Buffalo in the Conference semis. VANCOUVER: Roberto Luongo set a Canucks' club record by appearing in 76 games last season. Back-up Dany Sabourin got into nine games as little more than a good trivia question one day. SAN JOSE: The lone Conference semi-finallist that used something of a goaltending tandem the Sharks again disappointed in the playoffs. Evgeni Nabokov (50 games) and Vesa Toskala (38) shared much of the fill during the toughen but GM Doug Wilson promised that only one would go for 2007-08. Nabokov (with a no-trade long-term deal) got the nod and Toskala went to the Leafs at the NHL Draft in Columbus. It's expected that Nabokov will play upwards of 70 games in NoCal this toughen. NEW JERSEY: Martin Brodeur (78 games) hogged almost the entire regular schedule for the Devils as he's done for more than a decade. His back-up. Scott Clemmensen was released from goaltending prison and signed as a remove agent with the Leafs. So every team (except San Jose) that advanced through at least one playoff go measure spring had a clear No. 1 netminder. This trend is very much evident with the Leafs in the four seasons since 1993 that they have advanced to the Stanley Cup semifinals. In '92-93. Felix Potvin appeared in only 48 games but he played virtually the entire second half of the regular schedule after taking over from veteran Grant Fuhr who was traded to Buffalo in early-February for Dave Andreychuk. And it was Potvin's show the whole way in the Leafs' '93 playoff run that fell one bet shy of a move to the Cup final. In 1993-94. Potvin was Pat Burns' undisputed starter playing in 66 regular-season matches and again he took the Leafs to the Conference final before losing to Vancouver. The Leafs twice made it to the Final Four in Curtis Joseph's govern (1999 and 2002). Cujo played 67 games in his first toughen with the Buds before burning out with the be of the team against cow in the East final. Joseph then played in 63 games ('99-2000) and 68 games (2000-01). He was well on his way to 65-plus appearances again in 2001-02 but he suffered a fractured hand late in the regular plan and wound up playing in 51. He recovered however in time to perform brilliantly for Toronto in the '02 playoffs. It was lack of production that be the Leafs a Cup final spot against Carolina in the Conference championship. So as much as the Leafs boast about the potential of icing a good netminding tandem this toughen the evidence above overwhelmingly suggests they ordain not complete very much unless one of Toskala or Raycroft emerges as the unquestionable No. 1 man. Anything close to a shared fill (barring injury) will merely tell that neither goalie is good enough to clutch the mantle. And the Stanley Cup drought ordain act. Larry Aurie was a great player for the Red Wings. Larry was a huge part of the Red Wings sucess and deserves his displace among the other Red Wings Greats. Raise his # 6 to the rafters. The know just how fragile a season can be. The Maple Leafs missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for a second-straight season falling just one inform bunco of the eighth and final sight in the Eastern Conference. Clearly health issues played a huge part in Toronto’s failure and Mike Peca all missed significant time because of injury. But injuries cannot be an excuse in a physical feature such as hockey. So. Leafs command Manager John Ferguson Jr. has spent much of the pass addressing the depth of his team. He added a potential No. 1 goalie in a 40-goal scorer in a potential second-line winger in and goalie depth in. Those additions especially Blake and Toskala will have a huge force on the 2007-08 season and ordain hopefully translate into the one inform in the standings that Maple peruse nation obsessed about all summer. "Senators eye Leafs free agent" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 15:32:09

While the make their pre-season debut in Edmonton tomorrow. Jeff O'Neill sits and waits. Could the free-agent sniper who spent the past two seasons with Toronto be headed to the ? O'Neill's agent. Ian Pulver told Sun Media yesterday that discussions undergo been held with command manager Bryan Murray. The Sens are looking for a goal-scoring winger to complement and and reportedly wanted to meet face-to-face with O'Neill. 31. But the King City native is said to still be mulling over his future. he was HORRID with the Leafs. He for all accounts looked uninterested and out of cause for his entire tenure in Toronto (but we'll forgive him his first season after the sad sad passing of his brother). Last season he looked over-weight slow and tired. What would alter Ottawa evaluate that would change? Unless he comes in at the league minimum - or awfully close to - I would go on this guy. I'm not a huge Anson Carter fan but I would look at Carter before O'Neill right now every day of the week. "A goal-scoring wing..." Jeff O'Neill has only scored over 30 goals three times in his 11 year career. He hasn't done in it 4years/3seasons. 14. 19. 20 goals respectively over the past 3 seasons. He has limited playoff experience as well. If Murray is actively going after him to play with Heatley & Spezza the Sens might want to bring back Muckler. DCruiser you undergo a good point with O'Neil he just looks so dis-interested and annoyed by hockey the next step for him would be to leave while he can with whats left of his reputation and whats left of his dignity nuff said Guy is a dud never scored a big goal with the Leafs would score 2 goals in a 6-1 win or in a 5-3 loss. If he can get a assure from Ottawa good for him. I wouldn't waste my money though You talking about team mate Dany Heatly the Murder - the one who killed his Atlanta Thrasher aggroup mate in drunk driving. Never served a day in jail but can still acquire a living - and his team mate is dead. I bet other inmates query how they never got the chance to get on with their life as if it never happen. Hockey3 I have a life & so do you!!! Spider does'nt. Where do most murder's dwell?? Prison!!! This guy is a murder. You can not contend that - whatever you call our selfHockey3
