THE SCOREKootenay 4 – Saskatoon 3 (OT)WHAT HAPPENEDThe Ice who played better overall that the night previous and managed to stay out of the box most of the night didn’t come out of the gates guns-a-blazin’. The Blades carried the play most of the night and deserved two points not one. Somehow someway though the home side squeezed out the win. THE (NON) GOALAfter a lacklustre first period in which the Blades were about to go to the dressing room with a 1-0 lead goaltender Thomas Heemskerk kicked out a fantastic save that Ben Maxwell picked up raced down the ice and found Dustin Sylvester in the slot. Sylvester buried it and the red light came on or so he thought. The puck was still out amongst the goal-mouth scramble and the referees let play continue. At the next stoppage the referee Ryan Thomson consulted with the goal judge and allowed the goal to stand. Checked with some Section V spectators and they verified the goal judge’s decision saying the puck went in one side and out as fast as it came in. Though those views aren't exactly objective. SYLVESTER THE CATConverted Left-Winger Dustin Sylvester had the hottest hand all weekend with five goals in three games. The diminutive 18-year-old is starting to emerge as a leader on this club. THE “BOOMER" SHOTForward Steele Boomer had a lot chances this weekend but the unlikeliest – a weak shot from just inside the blueline that hit one of the Blade defenders and fooled Zemlak – counted as his first WHL goal and the game-winner. THE OVERAGERSTonight it was D Chad Greenan’s turn to sit out though through the club’s first six games none of the four 20-year-olds have stood out. GM Jeff Chynoweth is committed to rotating them until the league deadline of October 11 when the top three will play their way into the roles unless a deal materializes first. THE FINNThe Blades have themselves a good one in Jyri Niemi. He had two goals has good size an NHL-type shot and can skate. The ten or so NHL scouts in the stands got a good look at him you can bet. THE CONCUSSIONThe goaltender rotation will likely continue for a while yet as the back-up role has yet to won by either Thomas Heemskerk or Nathan Lieuwen. Delaying things further is the fact Lieuwen suffered a concussion after being involved in a vehicle roll-over with teammate Jordan Wilkins earlier in the week. Wilkins suffered a few scratches and was a healthy scratch all weekend but Lieuwen isn’t expected back until next week. THE CROWDThe smallest of the season at 2708. Were louder than the 3055 the night before however. THE REC PLEX THREE STARS1. LW Dustin Sylvester – He’s got the hot hand and was the club’s best player.2.
