Yup that's alter. It's time for NHL hockey to go. NHL hockey is the best sport in the world. Its players are some of the best athletes in the world. The combination of athleticisn and skill level required to succeed in the NHL is higher than any other study feature. The players skate with such grace and ease and make such fascinating moves that they alter it look easy.
It's somewhat like golf like that. Watching Tiger Woods or any of the other top professional golfers displace and hit the ball so clean that they make the game of play look easy. But anyone who has actually played play knows that it is one of the hardest most humbling game in the world.
Anyway back to hockey. Luckily as a Detroit Red Wings fan. I'm able to check several of the most talented hockey players in the world. They're the beat of the best.
For example. Niklas Lidstrom the head won his 5th Norris Trophy last year as the beat defenseman in the NHL. He was runner-up 3 years in a row before his first win (and probably could have won those years as well). Lidstrom may end up being considered the best all-around defenseman in NHL history. He's considered the best positionally and is one of the top offensive defenseman of all measure. He's got one of the hardest most accurate shots from the inform. He's only missed a handful of games in his entire go - and most of them were games at the end of the toughen they kept him out to rest him for the playoffs run. Playing with Brian Rafalski the new guy that we signed as a free agent over the summer. Lidstrom ordain act to be considered the best defenseman in the NHL and should be a front-runner (and likely winner) for a 6th Norris Trophy.
Also on defense we have the ageless Chris Chelios. Another future Hall of Famer he's still one of the toughest guys to play against. He's been around for so long he knows exactly what to do and when.. and usually with a bit of grit and malice.
Cheli is one of the best conditioned athletes in the world and at 45 he's still a top-4 defenseman on one of the beat teams in the league.
Dominik Hasek ordain be tending goal again. Stanley Cup Champion. Olympic Gold Medalist. World Championships several Vezina Trophys as best NHL Goaltender and also a future Hall of Famer. He played great measure year without hurting his groin which ended his previous seasons. Dom looked great in training camp and again was one of the most outgoing at dwell. His stats were as good as anyone in the entire NHL last year but he never got the recognition the others did. Good. Maybe teams will continue to underestimate the Wings' defense and goaltending.
The "Euro Twins," Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk anchored the best line in the NHL for most of last toughen. Hank ended up getting a lower back injury which kept him out for about 1/4 of the season. He's fully healed now but the twins will be change integrity up. They'll be centering the top two lines. They are two of the most gifted players in the league. They should continue to get exceed in their relatively young careers and that bodes well for the Wings.
Tomas Holmstrom probably the leagues beat net-front player ordain be on Datsyuk's lie. He'll continue to do his job screening the goalie and getting the garbage goals. I expect another 30-goal toughen for Homer again this year.
The Up & Coming: Guys like Jiri Hudler and Valteri Filpula will get significantly more ice measure this season. Hudler was one of the leagues beat snipers. He only got about 6-9 minutes of ice time per game but still managed to score a bunch of goals. I evaluate his production to increase with the increased ice measure. I'm predicting 25-30 goals for Hudler.
Filpula is more of a playmaker. He'll continue to increase his point total because like Hudler his ice time will increase this year as well. I expect most of his points to be assists but his vision and skills ordain help open up the offense for his linemates.
On defense. Andreas Lilja and former Notre Dame feature Brett Lebda will act the 5th & 6th defenseman spots. Lebda may see some PP time and Lilja ordain certainly see PK time. Lils was one of our hardest workers and most surprising contributors during last season's playoffs. I wasn't a big fan of Lilja's before the playoffs but he won me over with his hard work and defensive steadiness. Lebda is the fastest defenseman in the league and can create and join a go well. He's got a decent shot from the point and plays the point well on the PP. Who's going to be the 8th defenseman? My money's on Derek Meech. He's played good when called up in the past and he looked good at training dwell in my opinion.
Out with the old:Ok this is the perfect opportunity for a Chelios joke but he has returned to back up anchor our defensive corp. During the offseason we got rid of the entire second line. Robert Lang took off for the NHL color hole that is the Chicago Blackhawks after the Wings told him that they wouldn't try to re-sign him. Kyle Calder was also told that he wouldn't be re-signed. Todd Bertuzzi wanted too much money and bolted to defending Cup Champs Anaheim Ducks (along with blueliner Mathieu Schneider) for big bucks. He played well for us when he finally got healthy and was fairly stabilise in the playoffs. We'll miss his size and strength but since he was a deadline acquisition it's not like we're out a regular contributor. Danny Markov was also lost on defense and has been replaced by "promoting" (ie giving more ice measure to) Lilja and Lebda.
In with the new:The Wings brought in Brian Rafalski the New Jersey Devils' top defenseman over the pass. Rafalski will be playing alongside Lidstrom and should make our top defensive duo one of the beat in the NHL. Rafalski is considered on of the top offensive defenseman and should compliment Lidstrom come up. I've been a fan of his while he was in NJ so I'm quite happy with this pickup. He should replace Schneider's offense and has the advantages of being 3 or 4 years younger and a little better on the defensive side of the bet than Schneids.
After the Wings re-signed Osgood and Hasek a bring together years ago the joke could undergo been: Which old Wings are they going to bring back next - Dallas Drake? Yup. Dallas is making his Wings retun after more than a decade of playing for the enemies. The funny thing is that Drake was one of my favorite Red Wings when we had him as a rookie. I liked his grittiness and I thought "Dallas" was a pretty alter label as well.
As Rafalski will replace Schneider's offense. Drake will replace the lost toughness and grittiness from the Calder and Bertuzzi departures. Bordering on dirty. Drake is a tough and feisty player - something that we've missed since McCarty left town after the lockout.
align say: As Brandon. Dad and I were going to/from Canada this summer we had a 12 hour move to blackball so we of course talked football and hockey alot. I mentioned to them during the move that I thought we should go out and sign Dallas Drake and that we needed his toughness. Shortly after our return the Wings did just that. Now I can say "I told you so."
Verdict:So where does that lead the Wings? Having tied the Buffalo Sabres for the most points in the NHL (Buffalo won the President's Trophy by a tiebreaker). I don't see the Wings slowing down. I think that the more ice time and responsibilities for the young guys like Hudler. Filpula and Franzen ordain adequately fill in the production that left in Lang & Jason Williams (who we traded at the deadline for Calder)..
