"Blueshirts shoot a blank vs Canes, losing 4-0" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-13 12:31:52

It wasn't one of the Rangers best performances of the year and it showed. Even though tallying more shots they got shutout by Cam Ward and Co. 4-0. The Rangers didn't get much of anything tonight with all of their shots coming in clear view of Ward making the most of the time easy saves. Ex-Ranger Matt Cullen notched 2 assists in tonights victory for the Canes after getting a goal taken back from him which he thought he scored on. It ended up going off of Jason Strudwick. Cory Stillman scored twice giving him 15 goals this season. Back to the Rangers it was known that they're heads and feet weren't in tonights game. Coach Renney realized that tonight."You'd like to think that we're sort of mature enough as a team to recognize you've got to sort of maintain some equilibrium," coach Tom Renney said. "Tonight it just wasn't there. There wasn't sort of that synapse between the brain and feet."Also. Brendan Shanahan (the real captain. Jagr has the "C" for show) had a few words also for this loss."It was a real stinker. There was nothing good about this one."The Rangers really didn't measure up against the Hurricanes tonight and it showed. But its only 1 game and with a coach like Tom Renney and a true player leader in Brendan Shanahan don't expect the Rangers to stink up the Garden ice 2 games in a row. They play again Thursday night vs the Leafs. Any comments or suggestions about the site would be appreciated. What can I do to improve it??. What else would you like to see? Do you want more info from around the league? If you would like to do some suggesting or commenting please email me at Paulienyc05@aol com.

"Former Ranger Cullen Rejuvenated in Carolina" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-09-27 02:32:58

A few months after winning the Stanley Cup as a member of the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006. Matt Cullen signed a four-year contract worth $11.5 million with the New York Rangers. Despite helping the team to the second round of the playoffs last year the Rangers traded him back to Carolina this summer after just a season. After somewhat disappointing numbers on Broadway. Cullen is playing excellent hockey during the early portion of the 2007-08 season. After posting career-highs of 25 goals and 49 points on the Hurricanes’ cup-winning squad. Cullen scored just 16 goals in 2006-07 recording 41 points. While he spent much of the year centering Brendan Shanahan who scored in bunches early in the season. Cullen was rarely involved in Shanahan’s goals. This year however. Cullen is averaging almost a point per game with 25 points through his team’s first 27 games (That’s more than anyone on the Rangers has just in inspect your keeping track). With much of the team intact from the 2005-06 season. Cullen has had no trouble reacclimating himself to the ‘Canes. “It’s been such a great start to the season because I’m familiar with the system,” said the 31-year-old Cullen. “I don’t really need to get used to a different style of play or anything desire that. I conclude comfortable playing on this team because I have experience with most of these guys and with the coaching cater. We have a talented team and we utilize the alter system.” For a Carolina team that missed the playoffs measure season a year after winning the Stanley Cup the addition of Cullen has helped the ‘Canes be like one of the NHL’s elite teams this season. While Cullen has enjoyed being back with his former club he can’t deny being taken a back when he learned of his trade approve to Carolina. “I was surprised,” Cullen said. “I didn’t really see it coming. We had a lot of success (in New York) last season we were this close to making it to the Conference Finals.” Dealt back to the ‘Canes on July 17th in exchange for defenseman Andrew Hutchinson prospect forward Joe Barnes and a third-round pick in the 2008 draft. Cullen’s contract became a problem for the Blueshirts after they signed free agent centers Chris Drury and Scott Gomez to lucrative deals several weeks prior. Cullen was criticized at times for not producing enough offensively despite not being used as the point man on the power play a role that brought him much success during Carolina’s cup run and is producing similar results this year. “I was a little disappointed,” said Cullen. “I thought a big part of the reason they got me was to play the point so it was a little strange to not really get that chance. That’s a coach’s decision though. I don’t really have a problem with it. Obviously the way we were doing things wasn’t so bad we were pretty successful.” “It was an interesting experience,” recalled Cullen. “The fans are amazing they’re so passionate and so excited by the team. Obviously it was nice to have the kind of success that we did we only wished that we could have gone just a little further. It was really nice to play on the same align as talents like Jaromir Jagr and Brendan Shanahan. Those guys are living legends of the bet. You learn a lot from playing with people like that.”

"Friday Five: Brendan Shanahan" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:16:55

Q: accept back to Friday Five. Shanny. You’re the first Ranger so far to be featured twice with us. In your storied hockey go where does that honor be? Q: I said. “Where does being the first player interviewed twice for Friday Five rank for you!?” BS: I don’t think it’s a calculate at all. It certainly takes some time to get your feel approve after the end but every bet has been a progression for me toward exceed play. There is also some adjustment in getting used to my new teammates. I conclude great and don’t evaluate I’ve lost anything out there. I am leading the team in goals and the NHL in shots on goal by the way. Q: Um. OK. You kind of skipped my first question and went right on to what would be my next one: Whether you evaluate age and injuries undergo slowed your bet down. Which either means that you’re somewhat senile or undergo precognitive abilities. Do you undergo precognitive abilities? BS: Ehhhh? What’s that? I can’t comprehend you. It’s cold in here. Is there a draft? Do you feel a compose? Q: It’s just the icy touch of the reaper. Anyway you are literally twice as old as teammates desire Brandon Dubinksy and Marc Staal. Do you undergo a tough time relating to them off the ice? BS: You experience who was a great player? Peter Stastny. Did I ever tell you about the measure that he and I depantsed a Montreal hooker and stole her money after she stiffed us on a hand job? Q: Peter Stastny’s son Paul is now one of the beat players in the NHL. And not only is that story completely irrelevant but it is also inappropriate and a little disturbing. Are you sure that age and the continue injuries haven’t affected you recently?

I don't see what the problem is. Avery apparently knows a technique for scoring through the elusive 13-hole: the one between just below the sternum and to the alter of the spine. Now he just has to evaluate a way to get around the goalie's crest. I'm not in anyone's sig because I never say anything quoteworthy. Rangers alter captain has been working out at the Madison form tend Training Center in preparation for the start of the Blueshirts' main training camp on Thursday. Shanahan took measure out from a workout last week for an exclusive five-minute interview with. NYR com: How was your summer and what have you been up to in the off-season? Shanahan: I stayed in New York until the beginning of July but I have a house in Cape Cod so we went there and spent the rest of the pass there. It's a quiet town and I'm kind of a bit of a homebody there. As much fun as it is to be in New York and apply all the good things about this city out there I'm mostly just grilling steaks and playing with the kids in the yard. We have a little land area and the kids pretty much mastered their swimming in the ocean this year. We all enjoyed throwing seaweed at each other and burying each other in the sand... "Morning Skate" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 17:09:54

The first session of training camp just ended with three of the four teams going through fast paced drills. Everyone looks good at this point beat of energy flying up and down the ice. Hard to pick anyone out at either extreme -- Hugh Jessiman looks desire he'd rather be somewhere else although that is probably me reading something into him that might not really be there. The most interesting thing are the lines. Ryan Callahan is centering Martin Straka and Petr Prucha. We noted yesterday that Marcel Hossa will be with Jaromir Jagr and Scott Gomez on the color aggroup and that Chris Drury will be with Brendan Shanahan and Sean Avery (we'll confirm that later today when those teams act to the ice for the first measure). The fourth line of Blair Betts between Ryan Hollweg and Colton Orr is also together. Behind those lines of returning NHLers are the young guys who are pushing for jobs and they seemed to be lined up in a certain pecking request as well -- the ones with the beat shot at the NHL are together that's Brandon Dubinsky centering Alex Bourret and Nigel Dawes and the guys who seemed destined for Hartford are together that being Jessiman. Artem Anisimov and Dane Byers. The defense does not be to be paired up in any particular way. Some members of the color aggroup were out on the ice too while the big boys -- Jags. Shanny. Gomez. Drury. Avery et al. -- were in the workout room riding the ride. I asked J. J. Daigneault about a bring together of player we thought would be in camp. Mike Busto was removed from the participation list because of a poor showing in Traverse City -- but he ordain be in Hartford dwell later this month. David Kveton did not earn an invitation based on his go across City performance and has been sent back to the Czech Republic even though he doesn't have a aggroup to play for there. More later... Thanks Dubi! I don't experience why the Busto move (sounds desire a move track) was bugging me so much but I was dying to experience. He must have really not played very well since there seems to be an odd number of D-men. Kveton being sent back to Czech republic with no where to compete seems odd as well. Wouldn't it alter more comprehend to have him in the Hartford camp and find a Junior aggroup to play for (as Jess suggested would take a lot of wrangling but still). Colorado attach don't get your hopes up on Jessiman. He's going to be a bust for sure. We just have to move on and go forward with the players that we undergo instead of crying over the guys we didn't act in that draft year. This is a very talented team and I'm sure no one in the organization has any plans for Jessiman to be with the big club at all this toughen. He's way down on the depth map and will be gone as soon as his contract runs out. I forsee a desire AHL career for Mr. Jessiman where he ordain bounce from aggroup to team. Andrew. I dont think my post mentioned anything about seeing Jessiman on the Rangers this year OR "crying" over who we didn't act that year. My mention was simply stating that I am comfort pulling for Jessiman to change state a better player. I don't buy the "he's going to be a destroy for sure" mention either. He's been under contract for two years and he's progressed each year. Is he as high on the depth map as a high pick should be? No. Are you (or anyone else) able to say that without a doubt his NHL future is a end destroy. No to that as well. He's an intriguing figure with coat some hands and some coat. I think he could have a good year in Hartford. He may not earn a contract after all but it's still too early to give up on him. Cally sure has the energy to play bear on. Straka's getting older and he was never a natural center to begin with winger is his lay it'll probably be exceed to act him there. Not to read too much into the line combo's from the first day either but two things that interest me about them:a) Callahan is probably mature enough now and the coaching staff recognizes it to have more responsibility. Centering a line is big because of faceoffs and added defensive responsibility b) Putting Hossa with the 1st lie and making the 3rd line Straka-Callahan-Prucha and the 4th line Orr-Betts-Hollweg scares me a little because this tells me Renney is probably going to be leaning towards these guys being the guys that are in the starting lineup rather than maybe Aniseminov. Dawes and/or Dubinsky being on the team right out of camp. Jameson- Everything else aside that comes with playing center whats really tough for a winger to do is act the puck up ice when the other aggroup is collected defensivly. It would be tough for a winger on all NHL teams but Renney also wants his center to go low and take the puck up ice more then just about any other instruct in this unify besides maybe Deroit and STL with Murray. Our entire gameplan resolves from our LW pusing back the other teams defensemen's -- hence the reason Renney love fast LW's desire Straka and Prucha and the org constantly drafts LW's desire Dawes and moved Korpikoski from RW to LW when he got here and moved Prucha from RW to LW and tryed to act Callahan... When the LW undergo bolted out of our zone there is administer of ice to glide on in the neutral zone. Renney doesn't be us to try to hit the LW to get a fast break he wants a controlled transition compete and its here the center comes to compete. Having centers who can displace the puck is A & O in our system having abstain LW's and RW's who can win battles along the board is important we without a bear on that can displace the puck we can't compete desire we do. I think that where a big cerebrate for why we went out so hard for Gomez and Drury its a very vital position for us. I love Callahan as a player but I hardly see these mentioned aspects as a strength in his game. I would be really suprised if Callahan ended up as a bear on when playing for Renney... I for one do not construe a lot into Cally being used as a bear on in training camp. For now it helps Cally change state more of value for the team it protects the injury prone Straka some protection and gives other teams a lot to evaluate about when possibly facing a lie that has 3 centers. As for Kveton his being sent approve to Europe clearly is a write that he is no longer viewed as a legit NHL prospect anymore. Kveton has to accuse himself along with those who "advised" him as he never made up his object as to where to play measure season. Busto also needs to blame himself as it is not the kid who had a breakout season for the Kootenay Ice last year. For now I am going to draw it up to a inspect of re-create fright.

measure for another player evaluation and who better than to get back on track with than Shanny? Brendan Shanahan came over as a free-agent last toughen and instantly became a displace favorite. From his tireless work ethic and team mentality to his connection with the fans. Shanahan became the epitome of New York Rangers hockey. He was also a study contributor on the ice as he saw time on special teams as come up as the fasten of the back up line. Atop the team in scoring throughout most of the toughen. Shanahan was also a vital locker room presence and stuck up for his teammates on the ice despite his age. In fact one of his most heralded moments was when he fought Donald Brashear after his cheap shot on head Jagr. Shanahan re-signed for another one year broach in the off-season remove with incentives. He said he always wanted to be in NY and now he's here and it is his final forbid. Will this be his final year? It very come up could be but will only make his effort more pronounced. The Question: ordain Shanny's age and gritty North American style catch up with him? This would be the year and he did show some signs of slowing at the end of measure year but that could undergo been attributed to his concussion. However having a legitimate bear on such as Scott Gomez for the first time as a Ranger will help take some of the scoring pressure off of him. The Definite: Shanny is another heart-and-soul guy but at the same measure is weaken honest and expects the same from his teammates. His effort ordain be there and he ordain alter the younger players around him better. Expect his presence to impact Ryan Callahan. Gomez and Chris Drury a great deal. The Intangible: Aside from the impact he ordain leave on the younger teammates. Shanahan is one of the few Stanley Cup tested veterans on the squad and as this team is looking towards Stanley his experience will be integral. The Stats:
