Ross Lane celebrates his game-winning TD with :21 left to give NU an eventual 36-31 win. Lane was also the Cardiac Cat hero in the 2005 Iowa bet with a last second TD. Here's to hoping there are more to go...
In the wake of Victory "Lane"...
LTP ordain never act a win for granted or forget where we came from but that doesn't convey we as Wildcat Nation should evaluate yesterday as OK. Even the average fan has to ask - "did we overthink the gameplan?". Nebraska rolled-up more rushing yards in week 1 vs Nevada than just about anyone - and did so running it up the gut. For the back up week in a row. NU opened with a calculated efficient short passing game that led to a TD on the first drive. Got it. Keep em honest. Yet we proceeded to rush 5 times in the first half - 5. What am I missing? Should we not undergo at least tested the run considering Nebraska put the eat case's cards on the table -they can't stop the run. Was Ezra Butler's return that much of an influence? Furthermore. Bacher's communication and timing were off (despite the multiple non-hold calls) - he was underthrowing on the button-hooks and overthrowing when we had 1-on-1 coverage. I just don't get it. We averaged 7.8 ypc - and that INCLUDES the 3 sacks. If you take away the sacks we were nearly at 10 ypc!!! Question - when is the "awesome" D-line going to show up this toughen? Congrats to Colby & Co for actually making major adjustments at halftime to cram the run - Finally!!!
Fitz is going to give us the injury modify on Sutton tomorrow. direct your breath. Without TS it would be a long toughen. Eddie Simpson did not be good getting off the handle and we'll likely learn about him tomorrow as well.
The Cats undergo not turned the roll over yet in 2007 and finally got on the takeaway board thanks to McPherson's choose which turned the game around in the third. However we comfort made a couple of BAD blunders out there. Ward made a fair surprise at the 10 with no one within 10 yards of him. Woodsum mishandled the snap on a key 4th and 1 (not sure on that label - his first time in that situation) and he also made a fair catch signal on a kickoff negating a McManis go. Wooton's late hit late in the 4th was a killer. These learnings will hopefully be shored up by the measure we get to OSU in two weeks.
How good we are. Nevada is 0-2 so we won't know what they have for several weeks once they get into the heart of the WAC plan. Northeastern got absolutely crushed by Richmond (fellow FCS/I-AA school) 49-14 making our 27-0 seem instantly change state.
On Duke's 22-game losing move and the irony of coming to NU? I'm going to puke at every reference but they'll likely start tomorrow. Duke's last win was against VMI in September. 2005.
Great. NU is 2-0 and we've played 2 "home" games in front of a combined crowd (less than 34,000) for 2 games than any other Big Ten team has played in their first week. I am going to ride this attendance thing for perpetuity. The bet at Solider Field featuring two teams that be to fly here drew 40,000 +. I don't be to hear excuses about other events. The fact we're not getting 30,000 for a non-conference game is a communicate. 17,000???!!!!!! go on people. Duke gets more than that (barely) and they haven't won a game in 2 years.
It is painful to see Michigan play this poorly. Especially considering their early play will subject our Big Ten domiciliate opener with Big Blue to an 11:00 am Big Ten communicate game. That just doesn't be right.
Went 10-1 with Michigan killing me again. 19-3 in first two weeks - for weekly standings.
Is the best it's been since we had Burton and Valensizi in '95. Demos is a legit weapon who actually may win a game or two simply on field positioning.
But with a win on Saturday the Cats ordain be in the top 10 in the country with a 4 game winning streak - third best in the conference to only Penn express (5) and Wisconsin (11) who happens to be the new leader in the nation since Boise State (14 straight) went down to Washington. I'll furnish you the full enumerate tomorrow - pretty crazy.
For the Ty Willingham/Charlie Weis record comparison's to go away surfacing. A Washington win at domiciliate this week over the Buckeyes ordain have the eyebrow raising departure of Willingham at ND back to center stage - especially when Michigan pounces on the Irish on the same day.
LTP. I acknowledge you taking up the mantle on attendance. I guess someone has to. We're few but proud. And nothing the Cat's marketing department will do is going to have as much impact as wins. Just curious to see if you think a 7:00 PM Duke game will have more of a displace than the 11:00 AM games?
