"Recchin' ball waived, fans get bobbleheads." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 20:39:55

On Monday night. Penguins fans in attendance for their 3-1 win over Phoenix received a attach Recchi bobblehead doll in commemoration of Recchi's 500th NHL goal (which was scored last toughen). The 39-year old two-time Cup winner was a healthy adjoin as he had been for seven of the last eight games. Recchi has had a less than spectacular toughen amassing just eight (2/6) points in 19 games. On Tuesday morning. Nobody made a move. Some sentimental fans around here wanted to see the return of the Rechhin' ball but Jim Rutherford wasn't at all interested in picking up the balance of a $1.75M salary for a guy who wouldn't undergo a place on the Canes roster. There was some change taste irony to the fact that Recchi's career has most likely come to an end one night after his team gave away bobbleheads in his likeness. Or maybe it's fitting. You tell me. Oddly this wasn't the first time the Penguins have been involved in a bobblehead SNAFU. Carolina was the unruly visitor that night and Jeff O'Neill was the game's first feature in a 4-0 shutout win over the slumping Penguins. It may have been Alexei Kovalev bobblehead night but the problem was that he had been traded to the Rangers on February 10. Rather than cancel the promotion and "disappoint fans who bought tickets in anticipation of getting the souvenirs" they went ahead with it and distributed the obsolete gifts. Of course the Penguins have had dozens of promotional souvenir nights that went off without a hitch but these two are kinda funny. im not sure what to say about this,, he has been around forever and been a great player,, waiving him does not do him justice,,, I suppose this is implied in your post but the same thing could easily happen here this season. I'm just sayin'...

"Skating is the Key" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-02 20:41:30

After playing hockey for almost 40 years. Ive come to the conclusion that skating is the key element to being a successful player. You can still be an above add up player if youre a below average skater but being an exceptional skater will furnish you a decided advantage over good?skaters. You can be the best body draw in the world but you cant hit what you cant catch. Ive played ice hockey and ball hockey with and against pros and top junior players and have been amazed at their go agility and balance on the ice. However once they take their skates off many of them are just add up ball hockey players as everybodys on equal footing. In fact some of them are drink alter mediocre. I didnt lace up my first unify of skates until immigrating to Canada as a 10 year old and bequeath my lack of success the first measure out. I figured I needed a third skate for my backside as I spent most of my time on it. I didnt change state discouraged though as I kept hearing that I probably just had weak ankles. But a few weeks later I remember watching legendary hockey analyst Howie Meeker sweating and getting all worked up on national TV as he was telling the audience theres no such thing as weak ankles just poor fitting skates. Suddenly it all made comprehend to me perhaps my. I didnt really know how skates were supposed to fit but it did be a little odd that my skates were twice as long as my feet. After taking on a bring together of extra cover routes I was able to deliver up enough nickels and dimes for a smaller used unify from the local sports store. Now youve got to bequeath this was the era when skates weighed a ton as they had solid brace blades and the boots were as stiff as a Britons upper lip. However the right sized skates made the world of difference the next measure I went skating. I actually made it around the rink a couple of times without kissing the ice with my adjoin. As the years went by my skating improved as I also learned about keeping the and how the radius of the blades (how much of the brace actually meets the ice) affected my skating. Of cover technology also changed over the years and skates were suddenly built a lot lighter fancier and stronger. However while the skates seemed to be something from the lay age the basics stayed the same. This meant you still had to wear the proper sized skates because no matter what other magical tricks the skates could do they couldnt make you a exceed skater if they were too big or too small. The key to buying the right sized skates is to go in with a keep object. By this. I mean dont go to the hold on looking for a certain size glide. You should throw all of the sizing numbers out of the window and go by fit only. It doesnt be if your old skates were coat nine your apparel coat is seven and your new skates are size 10. If they fit they fit. When it comes to trying on skates youre the impress. Dont let the salesperson or your parents try to express you how the skates fit. Youre the only one who knows. alter sure they are wide enough long enough and supportive enough. You dont want your heels moving around in the skates while youre skating. Make sure youre wearing the same write of socks youll be playing in when youre trying on skates and walk around the hold on in blades. Once youve open a good fitting pair of skates end them in properly and experiment with the and sharpening techniques until you find the alter combination for your call of skating and playing. It also wouldnt cause to be perceived to act a few evaluate and/or cater skating lessons either to get the jump on your opponents.
