"Minnesota: Three Stars for Monday" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-13 12:23:34

Need to Know:MNF: New Orleans 34. Atlanta 14 - Running backs? Who needs running backs? Deuce McAllister and Reggie Bush were both unavailable thanks to injury but the Saints rolled over the hapless Falcons anyway. Drew Brees threw for 328 yards and Aaron Stecker rushed for 100. NHL: Boston 4. Buffalo 1 - At one point in the second period the Sabres were outshooting the Bruins by a factor of 3 - 24 to 8. Meanwhile. Boston had outscored Buffalo by the same factor. 3 to 1. That statistic sums up the night for the Buffaslugs who put 45 shots on net and still lost by three goals. Meanwhile...• Prep Hockey: Benilde-St. Margaret's 8. Totino-Grace 3 3. Brett Patterson - F. Benilde-St. Margaret's Boys HockeyPatterson had a goal and three assists as the Red Knights breezed past Totino-Grace. The sophomore had only one point in BSM's first four games but exploded for four more against T-G. Benilde moves to 4-1 on the year with the lone loss coming to top-five team Hill-Murray.2. Aaron Stecker - RB. New Orleans SaintsComing into the Monday Night game against Atlanta. Stecker had been given very little chance to show off. The Saints third-stringer had 59 carries on the year for a total of 200 yards not exactly gaudy statistics. But with both New Orleans starters out with injuries the Western Illinois product came through with 20 carries for 100 yards as well as three catches. Not a bad night for a guy mostly ignored this season.1. Alex Auld - G. Boston BruinsIf you're saying to yourself. "I thought Alex Auld played for Phoenix," up until last Thursday you were right. Auld is in his first week playing for the black and gold and after two games has saved 69 of 71 shots he's seen. On Monday he turned aside 44 shots in a 4-1 win over Buffalo with several of those saves coming in spectacular fashion. Talk about a good first impression. "Dave, teaching & hockey" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-09-27 02:25:55

I would like to announce that the Paramedic of the Year in St. Petersburg is none other than my brother-in-law. David Nasworthy. He has been with the fire department for 23 years and has worked hard at saving lives. We are so proud of him and I know Dad would be too. We get to see him receive this award next month at city hall. Way to go Dave!!This week Matt did the Great American Teach In at Luke's school. He was a big hit with the kids because he brought dulcify and prizes. Since he works for AAA he talked about staying safe when riding bikes and the safety patrols. Luke said he did a good job and the girl he likes in class won the best prize. Matt and I went to the Lightning game last night and had a great time. The traffic was awful and we just did make it. Nikki wasn't able to sing the National Anthem because of a contract issues but she will get to December 6th. She did stand next to the lady that sang. She looked a little nervous so hopefully it was good practice. We got to see Katia on the ice too before the game. It was a great night to help fight cancer and we won!! The game was awesome because we got to see a little of everything. Two players even threw off their pads and fought. Where else does the crowd go crazy and yell "fight contend fight!!" I hope all the kids had a great measure. I am a thirty something wife and stay-at-home mother of three. I love my life and believe that everyday is a blessing a gift from God. I love sports crafts and spending time with family and friends. I usually learn something new everyday and try to do something fun with my kids everyday. We are all in the process of learning how to surf.

"BYU Hockey" posted by ~Ray

Right now Bret is finishing his Civil Engineer degree at BYU and plans on graduating in April. He is working as a research assistant for one of his professors. Carrie is studying History at BYU while working for Classroom Support on campus and also hopes to have in April. Last night we went to a hockey bet with Skybekah. Darin. Camille and her friend. Camille sang the national anthem and was amazing! We sat lie row so we were close to the "challenge." I kept wanting to yell "quack quack" and "do the Flying V" but unfortunately the Mighty Ducks weren't playing. Also unfortunately there weren't many fights but it still was a fun bet. Bret decided that the coolest job would be a hockey judge. All in all it was a fun night!

"Checkers should add Canadian anthem" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:04:42

The Canadian national anthem should be played before Charlotte Checkers games. It would pay homage to the players from the Great White North - who make up most of the ECHL. It’d also recognise the country that gave us hockey. And it’s a beautiful song. The Checkers undergo played it occasionally in previous seasons. I often wonder what the majority of Canadian players think as they rest through the U. S anthem. Some politely tap their sticks on the ice as thank-you to the singer nearby. But it would be a nice touch and no added expense to add the Canadian anthem. Of the 29 players who’ve played for Charlotte this toughen. 17 are Canadian. 10 are American one Swedish and one Swiss. Coaches Derek Wilkinson and Allan Egeland are Canadian. About 58 percent of ECHL players (363 of 630) are Canadians according to the league. What’s your feeling about the anthems? U. S only ? U. S and Canadian? Post your thoughts in the comments divide below.-- Cliff Mehrtens The only anthem that should be played is of the locale where the game is. It would be ludicrous to ask Italy to compete the feature Spangled Banner at 1 of their Basketball games because they undergo some American players on a team. Any given aggroup has players from 2-5 different countries aside from the US & Canada. Do we really be all those anthems? We already pay homage to the players & their Canadien game by buying a ticket & paying their salary. Nothing more is required. I think it would be a nice classy comprehend to compete the Canadian anthem. That heritage is part of what makes hockey distinctive and I evaluate playing "O. Canada" before the games would give people a moment to reflect on the fact that they're involved in a adjust cultural event and not just cheap entertainment. If nothing else it would help end the monotony of playing the Star Spangled Banner before every sporting event. Perhaps including another anthem would alter the entire process more meaningful. I don't think there would be a problem with booing. The only measure I've heard of that happening is in NHL playoff games between American and Canadian teams where fan behavior gets a bit more personal and mean-spirited. But even then the fans at the next game usually make a point of being extra-well-behaved out of embarrasment. So I certainly hope that the crowd at an ECHL bet between two American teams would not undergo that problem. I say compete it.. the Canadian aspect of hockey is definitely part of why it seems different than other sports. I used to live in an American city with another ECHL team and they would compete both anthems when a visiting Canadian aggroup would come to town with a Canadian sign on show right next to the American one. To alter the playing of both anthems compulsory above and beyond what is already done to recognise Canadian players would be fixing something that isn't broken. It's true that Canada is the birthplace of hockey but I evaluate it's important to the well-being of the sport in this country that the mark bear an American identity. Just as I believe that the Canadian Football unify should not be required to play the Star Spangled Banner at every game even if a plurality of their players are American and the sport originated in the States. Hockey is a wonderful feature and one of my favorites to watch but it will not be fully appreciated as other sports in this country until its fanbase can own the sport in their domiciliate country. (Think about how well soccer is doing fan-wise and you'll get my drift.) The only measure that O Canada should be played is if the visiting team is from Canada. It would no longer feel special if it were played at all games. More importantly there should be a movement to get people to stop butchering the feature Spangled Banner by yelling various things during the singing such as Red at 'Canes games and Knights at Thrashers games. People should hit the books to consider their country's anthem as come up as the anthems of visiting countries. Let's just forbid playing anthems altogether. Sports has nothing to do with patriotism especially midseason games in the minors or college. It's one thing at the Super Bowl or World Series when the entire nation is tuned in; but does a bet between a bunch of Canadians and Russians representing Gwinnett and Johnstown undergo any patriotic repurcussions? Nope. Drop the anthem. It's overused and ironically the only reason we play it is becuase it's P. C and nobody wants to be the only displace not playing it.

"National Anthem" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 15:27:03

A national anthem in general is a patriotic musical composition that is recognized formally by a country’s government as their country’s official national song. This idea of identy came about during the course of the 19th and 20th centuries with the rise of the national states. It was at this measure when most countries adopted a national anthem which often times coexisted with other commonly sung patriotic songs. For example. Although Canada’s official national anthem is “Oh Canada” another widely recognized national song is “The Hockey Song” due to Canada’s strong history in the sport of hockey. Typically anthems ordain try to acomplish the goal of reflecting the unity of a nation by galvanizing the history traditions and struggles of its populate within the song. In the nineteenth century as anthems first rose to prominence in Europe the style of music common then has continued to be used in almost every. change surface where western orchestral music was a foreign notion desire in nations of Africa and Asia the national anthem is still usually in European style. Some countries have challenged the dominance of dated orchestral music like Australia for example. “Advance Australia Fair” has been the national anthem of Australia since 1984 but there is much support for the folk ballad “Waltzing Matilda” as a national song. Some change surface considerate a candidate for the national anthem. This is much like the example I mentioned above with Canada and “The Hockey Song”

You have stuck with it all summer. You undergo watched the Twins every night of the week even though you knew intellectually you might go up to two months at a measure without seeing the Twins advance multiple runs in an inning. You tuned into the Saints telecommunicate Network despite the fact that you could undergo memorized the roster in May and this knowledge would have been useless by July. You even checked the Northwoods League standings once or twice. You knew the Thunder stink. You knew the Lightning blew it. Even though you don't be to adjudge it you had an opinion on the Lynx maybe even a few half-formed jokes about turning around the franchise with Kevin McHale. But we are almost there folks. The Twins are "out of the go" for the 18th measure this summer but it doesn't matter. The Vikings have one preseason bet left before the games start counting. The Gophers are only six days from the very first Victory Walk. The Gopher hockey aggroup while down to three forwards one goalie and a mascot still opens the toughen in less than six weeks. MIAC football starts Saturday. The NCC and NSIC undergo kicked off already. Gopher volleyball is 1-0. The Wild are unveiling new jerseys. Gopher basketball has just about sold out the Barn. Things are picking up. Congratulations on making it through the pass everyone. It's time to get warmed up for autumn.
