"Murder on Ice (Hockey)" posted by ~Ray

After all what goes together better than ice and a consume? Hold the murder. Hockey games pack the rare combination of drinking eating good-looking guys adrenaline rushes and clanging cowbells into a single venue. For Anchorage party people that venue is Sullivan Arena. As the hockey season arrives here are some reasons why going to a game is one of the beat ways to advance a great night. The Alaska Aces furnish you the option of sitting on the wet side which means you can drink in your lay and the bar is nearby. Also everything is served in a plastic container and you're surrounded by concrete so dropping your drink and making a mess isn't an issue. There's a variety of beer wine and wine coolers (from Bud Light to Red Hook to Kenwood Yalupa) ranging from $5.75 to $6.25. There are also people who will come to your seat to sell you a beer in case you don't want to miss any challenge. If there's a hockey hang-up it's that UAA Seawolves games don't have a wet side. But there is a bar so between periods find an enforcer glide through the crowd and try to end a 24 ounce draft ($9.50) before the next period starts. desire quarters hockey is a relatively easy bet to hit the books and follow even if you're having a good time and not paying too much attention. And you can keep track of the score with your fingers since it rarely reaches manifold digits. Jeter. Favre we love you. But Sergei Fedorov? No contest. Hockey players are hot even if they're really not. They're all attitude. Their language is crude they swagger on skates and they have -- inexplicably -- enhanced the sexiness of the mullet against all odds. Women encourage for hockey players because they conclude desire they can dress their rowdy ways. Guys like to have the players' backs when the other squad gets a little too rough. With all this sexual tension in the air the opportunity for some beer-line flirting is high. Get the celebrate started early and save gas money by taking remove shuttles to and from the Sullivan for Aces games from the Peanut Farm (5227 Old Seward Highway. 563-3283). You'll still have to pay for a cab home if you have too much fun but it's worth the cost to avoid the parking lot walk at the Sully. A great post-game celebrate option is the Crossroads Lounge (1402 Gambell St.. 229-6897) just a block and a half away from the arena. Remember with hockey season comes ice outside the arena too. And if you intend to party hard get an assist from a cab or a designated driver. Nobody likes the penalty box. Contact nightlife columnist Jessica Bowman at or visit Play's Lush Life communicate at. This story was in the cover today. Its got me wondering: The tickets I bought for the Governors Cup say the "wet" section. We (the University of Alaska Nanooks) will be playing the UAA Seawolves. According to this story the UAA Seawolves games don't have a "wet" side. I hope they mak e an exception for the Governors Cup! Maybe it means it's OK to carry a flask if you sit in the Wild. "Nye Tournament: Night 1 Wrap-Up" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-18 05:28:22

I'm not going to give extensive analysis/commentary since it's almost 11pm as I start this and I need my beauty rest. A couple of comments first then onto the two games. I hate to have to get on the bash the referees bandwagon this early in the season (not that I'm ever necessarily shy about it) but since everyone always likes to point out that the WCHA is the "premier" league in college hockey. I have one serious question. Can this league ever go a weekend without legitimate questions about the performance of it's referees? Tonight in the Ice Breaker tournament at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. RPI got jobbed by a WCHA referee. I think few people would dispute it. Late in a tied game (at 15:31) referee Brian Thul (Tool) called a 5 min CFB against RPI which allowed the Gophers to have the man-advantage for the remainder of the game. 3 minutes and 18 seconds into the penalty the Gophers scored the GWG. I didn't see the game or the call. I'm confident though from reading commentary here on the Interweb that it was a bogus call (I base that on Gopher fan comments primarily). Here in Anchorage I honestly couldn't be happier that RMU defeated BU 3-2 but the WCHA refereeing in this game was questionable as well. Over the first two periods BU had 5 power plays and RMU only 2. I didn't think it was necessarily out of line. After BU went up 2-0 in the third period and in a nearly empty arena during play I yelled (loudly mind you) "Hey ref! Even it up!" three times. Not more than 30 seconds later Albers whistles BU for hooking. It was technically a hooking call but even with the tighter standards it was a play that would just as often be overlooked as called. During the ensuing RMU 5-4 Albers nails BU with a cross-checking penalty to give RMU the 5-3 advantage. All credit to RMU for converting on their chances but come on! I'm not saying that Albers heard me and it influenced him. But it was about "that" time in a WCHA refereed game where we see this sort of thing all the time which is why I "sarcastically" yelled what I did. So why am I droning on about this late at night when I'd rather be kicking back? Because we see this sort of crap from the WCHA refs year in and year out. People rightly complain (and yes sometimes they're just "whining") yet nothing ever changes. It's embarrassing when the "premier" league in college hockey has events like these virtually every weekend. It's clear that whatever mechanisms (if any) the WCHA has in place to evaluate and improve it's officiating are a complete and utter failure. Game One: RMU 3 - BU 2BU did not get jobbed tonight. They had every opportunity to win this game vs. RMU. They dominated the RMU zone for virtually the entire game. They fired a lot of shots at the net outshooting the Colonials 35-15 but must have had upwards of 60 attempts I'd estimate. RMU won the game for three reasons. Their goaltender Christian Boucher was outstanding the defense in front of him was effective and they showed a lot of heart in capitalizing on the chances that presented themselves. Prior to the 5-3 when they tied the game the Terriers had 5 power play chances. Following that they had two more full chances on the power play. They dominated the game at full-strength and went 0-7 on the power play. While I don't dig the whole "even it up" philosophy of WCHA refs. I have to say that BU had it's fate in it's own hands and didn't take care of business. Credit has to go to coach Derek Schooley who ensured his team packed it in tightly on the defensive end. I didn't count blocked shots but Boucher (even with his excellent perfomance) should be grateful for the effort of the players in front of him. It's possible RMU's style was just as much an effect of the pressure but I'm going to give Schooley the credit for realizing his team was "outgunned" and for packing the slot to limit the quality chances. The game winning goal came as a result of some flukey play and actually went in off Karson Gillespie's back but the RMU forwards were playing with great heart and desire at the time. The majority of the 1000 or so folks in attendance were cheering for the underdog. We know what being the underdog is like here in Anchorage so we appreciate being in that position. So.. congrats to "Bob" for the excellent and fun first game. They deserved the win; regadless of the wanker ref. Best player on the ice for RMU. #10 Tom Biondich. Best player on the ice for BU. #28 Brian McGuirk (he played passionately). MVP of the game Christian Boucher. Game Two: UAA 5 - Wayne St. 2It's not good form to gripe about a 5-2 win. And I'm not really going to gripe. But there was some pretty sloppy (early season) points in the game for the Seawolves tonight. An awful lot of little things that will likely be "clicking" later in the season were just not happening tonight. I won't gripe about a guy who had a 3 point night but Josh Lunden didn't have his best game. He was sharp on both excellent assists to he made and sharp on his goal. He had other good moments as well. But he had more than his usual share of little goofs. I don't want to single Josh out (even though I guess I am) but moreso use him as an example. Obviously its only the first game of the season but frankly if things had been "clicking" then UAA could have put up a much bigger number. Freshman Brad McCabe had two beautiful scoring chances in the 1st period that both went awry the moment the puck and his stick met. Easy to write those off to anxiousness/nervousness in his first NCAA game. Merit Waldrop however made sure Brad got on the board with the most unselfish play of the night on a 2-0. Kevin Clark was one Seawolf that didn't have any gaffs on the night. Both of his goals were results of excellent choices to go hard to the net. His assist (he didn't get one on the boxscore but trust me he made the play) on Josh Lunden's goal was a thing of beauty as he beat a Wayne State forechecker to the boards in UAA's zone and sweetly popped the puck to a breaking Crowder and Lunden who took it 2 on 1 from UAA's blueline to score. Craig Parkinson. Tommy Grant and Winston Daychief all had good scoring chances but only Craig managed to get a goal in his first NCAA game. Tommy Grant showed some good turns of speed and a quick release. Winston Daychief looked intense and showed he knew where the net was. Jonny O was solid. He made two great saves wasn't responsible for either goal against and was in control of everything that came his way. The blueliners all had good games. Mat Robinson is a stud. Luke Beaverson had a strong game. Trevor Hunt had a very solid outing as did Nils Backstrom. Lafranchise and Vidmar didn't much look like rookies. They're both going to grow into dangerous offensive defensemen at some point. In summary it was a bit of a mixed bag which is to be expected I suppose in the first regular season game so if I sounded like I was griping then I apologize. The team can play better but winning 5-2 means griping should take a backseat eh? Best player on the ice for UAA. #9 Kevin Clark. Best player on the ice for Wayne State. #11 Derek Punches. MVP of the game Kevin Clark. in response to Jason. I did think that there were some large chunks of time that the Wolves were not playing well enough if it were against most probably all. WCHA opponents. That is why I think that tonights game will be so important with BU you are getting much closer to the talent level that you will see in the W. In the loss BU was by far the faster bigger stronger team and I do mean by far. It really just seemed that they didn't do a good job of capitalizing on their scoring chances. They are going to come out hard after that loss. You know Jack doesn't want to losses to start the season. And to Anonymous 10:19am,I did read the 'positive' articles from Andrew and Doyle although Doyle started well and ended fairly well the middle seemed like another shameless promotion of the Aces he calls them consistent after the team was sold on ebay 5yrs ago. But it was a step forward for Woody even if he usually seems a little more positive in the early part of the season. Andrew's article as good though. Also to close my long spurt there were things that weren't that bright for the team like their PK. And these things HAVE to be fixed before tonight and before the rest of the season Gov cup and WCHA. But the team did look more confident and hungry to score. The team should put up more goals than last season which would be very good. Hopefully Johnny O will be very steady in the net. He seems like he is a little more steady than Nathan was but it is how well he performs that will be the question which I think he will do great and surprise many people. I am glad to see UAA win last night despite being what I thought was terribly inconsistant. They took several uncalled for penalties. Despite all this they still won. Mcabe missed (the puck) twice right in front of the net until he finally buried his third try. If he keeps getting ot the net we could have what we've been missing for years - someone to pass to in front of the net! Grant reminded me of a mix between. Charlie K and Justin Bourne. He'll be a good player for UAA. Daychief was kind of quiet. I'd like to see him get a coouple of points soon so he can build some confidence. I really think that we will see a lot of points from Crodwer/Lunden/Clark this year. Did anyone notice that Waldrops second shift lat night came with 8 minutes to go in the 1st? Beaverson caught some pine time too. Something happened and I believe a message was being sent. Olthius wasn't really tested in goal. Wayne State didn't get much traffic in front of him. We'll see tonight when BU dumps half the team in front of Johnny O. Here's the comment I left at the bottom of Doyle's commentary today regarding UAA on adn com:"Doyle:You are wrong when you say "number of seats sold" and compare it with "butts in seats". Ever notice the bar code ticket readers? Oh of course you wouldn't. You haven't paid to get into a hockey game in 20 years. In any case the ticket takers use bar code readers to um.. count (something we all should doubt your veracity as being able to do) the number of people through the door. If folks want drunken crowd rowdiness and fighting on skates with some hockey mixed in go to the Aces games. If they want to see THE highest level of amateur hockey in the world then go to a WCHA game at the Sully and watch the Seawolves challenge this year. Kids all across this country put their heart and soul into the game for the sake of an education. They should be respected and honored and not judged by ECHL or other professional standards (even though the majority of them are fully capable of playing at that nearly lowest of professsional levels). Your abondonment of the team on which you cut your hockey writing teeth is evident to all Seawolf fans. They understand the fiscal and bandwagon nature of that decision by your employer. They don't understand nor do they forgive the negativity (such as all the "backhanded" compliments) you show for the Seawolves (the team that essentially built your precious Aces) virtually anytime you deign to comment on them. Do us all a favor. Stick with the Aces. Let Hinkleman establish himself. As a relative "noob" to this community hopefully he'll grow into a positive media presence. That is of course if you're not mentoring him."

"Warming Up: The Roots of the Rivalry" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-04-08 04:00:57

Dear Readers: I'm taking the words "off-season" seriously.. see you sometime in mid-August probably.... Note to Seawolf Players: We are proud of you guys. You showed tons of experience and it's clear to every Seawolf fan that you each have loads and loads of personal engrave. Be proud of yourselves and have a great offseason and come approve refreshed eh? beat of luck to the departing Seniors. Merit. Luke. Peter. Blair and Chris we ordain miss you guys. Congratulations on your book careers! Best of luck in your futures. Anchorage versus Fairbanks. Why the rivalry? There are any be of reasons for these two schools to dislike one another that undergo nothing to do with hockey. Alaska is an incredibly variable state. Environmentally speaking it ranges from the only rainforest on Earth's northern hemisphere where temperatures rarely go below 50 degrees to the Arctic where in some places the temperatures rarely go above 50 degrees. There is a region; a wicked ; North America's ; vast stretches of and deciduous ; thousands of ; innumerable lakes and streams; nearly and of course vast precious resources from gold to crude oil. Populations across the state are equally as disparate. The two largest cities have less attributes in common than they overlap. Fairbanks and it's immediate surrounding area has a population of about 80,000. Anchorage and it's surrounding area is nearing 300,000. Fairbanks is colder and darker in the pass but transport and generally warmer in the summer. It's much more a displace of extremes than Anchorage. Alaskans of all stripes though believe themselves rugged and individualistic. A good example to dilate the point would be the recent channel of the Sean Penn movie. While much of the rest of the world seems to be enamored with the a spiritual journey of a unique soul. Alaskans see an unprepared schizophrenic boob who failed badly to assess his actual situation. Not to baffle what I'm sure is an otherwise book tale but; the truth is that one day the Teklanika River is impossible to cross but on another it's not too dangerous to cover at all. Had he simply camped out next to it for a few days he would likely be alive today. On this point Alaskans are pretty much united; it is one of few such agreements that become up here anytime "outsiders" try to express us about our state. While many of us appreciated the unique humor of the TV show pretty much none of us liked the continuous inaccuracies. Aside from these sorts of commonalities though. Anchorage and Fairbanks don't dig each other. What's up with that? It's a big vs little thing. It's a resentment thing. It's about distribution of resources. It's about frontier-life vs city-life. Folks in smaller cities don't fully understand why people like living in larger cities. Those in the big city don't understand the appeal of a smaller town. populate in Fairbanks resent the attitude of those in Anchorage they think we undergo a "high and mighty" attitude. populate in Anchorage resent the disproportionate funding that UAF receives when compared to UAA (more on that later this week). Anchoragites can't create by mental act doing without their much greater range of choices of where to pay their money. Fairbanksans don't get the need for 49 movie screens in 8 locations when they get by with 16 in one place. All this and more carries over to the ice. There are only two schools in the express that compete in NCAA athletics. UAA and UAF. UAF is the flagship school of the UA system though. UAA however is the recognized flagship athletically. UAF has more graduate programs. They are a recognized bear on for arctic studies both environmentally and geophysically. Though they're 400+ miles from the ocean in 3 compass directions they host the only oceangraphic studies in the express. There is much experience in that for UAF alumni and students. There is much resentment of that here in Anchorage (located on the Pacific Ocean) at the school with a much larger enrollment. The resentment and rivalry change surface likely played some small role in the departure of former UAA president Elaine Maimom. Wow. Ousted because you wanted the bigger school to get funding that was inline with it's population? I can't help but think there is some defensiveness among the fully funded professorial elite in the Interior if they're gonna boot someone simply for bringing it up. No doubt UA President Mark Hamilton likes his status as a big look for in a small pond in Fairbanks and isn't about to let anyone be that with something like logic. For most of the earliest years of competition in D1 hockey UAA flat out dominated on the ice. The teams played each other as many as 8 times a year at one point. I can bequeath being egest and tired of seeing Nanook jerseys change surface if we mostly pounded them. Even during those early years both teams had their overlap of studs; in Fairbanks they had Steve Moira who led all of the NCAA in scoring one year. They had a couple of -chuks most notably Dean Fedorchuk who was no slouch at burying the puck. They had a couple of hurt in the ass pint-sized guys (Ricky Pitta and Shawn Ulrich) who both always played their beat games vs. UAA. UAA had it's share of Fairbanks killers in Dean Larson and Robbie Conn and Brian Kraft always seemed to be a thorn in their align. Aaron Voros scored more than a few goals in the series for UAF while Mike Scott returned the favor quite often for UAA. Anchorage born and raised Derek Donald and Paul Williams scored their share of goals vs UAF. No doubt Fairbanks born Greg Milles and Pat Williams have both fond and not so fond memories of the series; I seem to bequeath Greg's brother as a linesman/referee on a few occassions vs. UAA back in the day when "home-cooking" was more prevalent than it is today. Of cover we in Anchorage had our own famous "chef" referee (whose name escapes me damnit! .. who was always yapping at the players.. argh! I can't think of his name but maybe some kind soul from Fairbanks who remembers getting screwed ordain comment with the name and I can edit this frustration out) EDIT: open Brett who didn't ever compete for UAA but was "all-Anchorage" through and through. Over the years a number of players went from one school to the other (mostly UAA to UAF): Todd Skoglund. Tom Kowal. Nathan Rocheleau and recently Dustin Molle (who's dad played at UAA) all left UAA and turned up at UAF. A couple of brothers from Palmer chose differently with like pierce going to UAA and Forest pierce choosing UAF. Don Lucia went from UAA assistant to become the Head instruct at UAF. As he brought that program up in respectability the rivalry intensified. Former UAF coaches Tavis MacMillan and walk Klippenstein both played against UAA. Fairbanks radio color commentary man Erik Drygas played for UAF against UAA. There hasn't been a measure that I can bequeath though where players on either side of this rivalry didn't passionately want to beat the other. Multi-generational sports rivalries sustain and tend themselves by remembering the past. Any desire time fan of either of these programs surely have memories from the past fueling their current passion to see the other aggroup beaten down. I experience I do. Nye has been bought out. If I understand correctly the sponsorship agreement is for 5 years and this was the 4th of that 5 years. Perhaps UAA has let them out of the 5th year since they sponsored it for the past 9 years. I'd guess another sponsor ordain be open with no problem. Next year UAA and UAF agreed to only compete each other twice and both are hosting tournaments of their own in which they're both participating. I'm also heard the arrangement to play each other twice is a home and home series. My assumption is that both tournaments will be of the fixed bracket variety. For example; Next year UAA is hosting UConn. Northeastern and UAF... UAA will play UConn and Northeastern. UAF will compete UConn and Northeastern. UAA and UAF will not compete each other in the tournaments. So that ordain take up the 6 available non-conference games. I don't experience who UAF has lined up for their tourney. I think neither schools will have problems lining up schools with the games exemption that comes with participation. I hope my assumptions are change by reversal. I did ask about all this but could have misheard the responses. I should undergo written it drink.

"UAA Preview for BU Fans" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-22 14:31:33

Since the creation of the known universe four-thousand three-hundred twenty-six years eleven months twenty-two days four hours and thiry-nine minutes ago the University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves (a mythical figure from the of Southcentral Alaska) undergo never beaten the BU Terriers (a little yappy dog bred by Limeys to mouth a lot). The saving alter in that unsettling statistic is that UAA and BU have only played once in the preceding 4 millennia. BU won 5-3 during the 99-00 season opening Nye tournament. In this years Nye Frontier (a local car dealership sponsor) the Seawolves ordain look to change surface things up. Even though it is a “tournament” the schedule is fixed and the tournament champion ordain be determined by preserve. This could mean a shootout (which should make hockey noobs happy if things bring home the bacon out that way). The Terriers were the Nye champs back in 99. BU fans can check the game vs. UAA this pass live. As of this writing they don’t undergo the latest schedule up. I’m not sure of the cost (I’m guessing around 6 bucks) but you’ll need broadband access and Real Media player. I’m not schilling for them so if they really want your business they’ll update their page. In any case the point here is to furnish you BU fans a bit of information about what to expect from this years edition of the Seawolves so I’ll get on with that. UAA has won their tournament 3 out of the past 4 years (including last year). So they’ll be prideful about defending that title. give in the domiciliate rink hasn’t been what it could be over the last few years (and a few before that) but there’ll be more than enough folks in the stands this weekend (Nye attendance averages around 5,000) to make good go for the hometown team. UAA’s all-time record on home ice is substantially better than it’s road record indicating that travel has some impact. Last year the Seawolves were around the 4th or 5th tallest and heaviest team in all of D1 and this year they’re only marginally smaller. instruct Shyiak knows we play the majority of our games on Olympic sheets so there isn’t anyone on the squad that can’t skate; regardless of their size. So based on those tidbits the Terriers can expect an uptempo but physically tough game from the Seawolves. Now onto more specifics about play. The Seawolves begin this season under Dave Shyiak in his third year. Under previous coach John Hill the mantra was uptempo and Dave has continued that basic philosophy. Seawolf defensemen always have the green lighten to bring about or move into the offense under Shyiak’s system. Additionally possession is an important facet to the contend so BU fans can expect to see all four lines working the boards and the deep zone. Cycling and breaking for the net being the key to success in that mode. The clear #1 line in this years offense is an all-sophomore lie composed of #9 Kevin Clark (5’9” 170lbs). #20 Paul Crowder (6’3” 203lbs) and #21 Josh Lunden (6’2” 202lbs). Clark is a hard-nosed playmaking bear on who can make things happen in just about any circumstance. Josh Lunden is the prototypical British Columbian power winger. He can lay on the hits carry the puck with speed and is always near the net when appropriate. He scored 11 goals last season and added 9 assists for 3rd on the team. Paul Crowder came from the RBC back Burnaby Express to UAA and scored 11 goals with 13 assists in his first season. Paul is strong on the puck and scored at least half his goals last season on the hit. evaluate these guys to rack up some quality minutes in the BU zone. Additional offensive chances are most likely to come from Senior #14 Merit Waldrop (local Anchorage kid) who Doug Woog characterized measure year as “…Putting on a clinic” at one point during a playoff game versus the Gophers. Merit had a hat cozen (including two shorties) against arguably weak competition measure weekend in UAA’s exhibition opener versus Southern Alberta. Senior #27 Peter Cartwright looks to breakout some this season as well. His first three years were spent on the “energy” line but I expect him to look to cash in more offensively in his final season. The rookie class will be looked to this season to alter on the offensive end. In the one learn and one exhibition game I’ve seen there are four freshman forwards that I adjudicate could be dangerous. #34 Brad McCabe (6’ 201lbs) was ranked in the top 200 in measure seasons CSB players to check list though he wasn’t drafted. He was one of only two NAHL players so listed. #17 Craig Parkinson (6’ 190lbs) scored 42 goals (6th league-wide in goals) and added 37 assists in 55 games measure toughen for the BCHL Cowichan Valley Capitals. His teammate on that squad Winston Daychief had 31 goals and 43 assists in 59 games. #16 Tommy Grant (6’2” 190lbs) joins the Seawolves from the BCHL’s Westside Warriors where his 36 goals put him at #13 league-wide in that category. When BU is on the power play they’ll need to be aware of #24 Senior Blair Tassone whose quickness and PK skills were key to a halfway decent PK of nearly 82% last season. On the defensive side last year I said that UAA’s blueliners were all budding Bobby Orr’s. I wouldn’t change that this toughen either. Every blueliner can act the puck up the ice. The Seawolves Captain this season is # 5 senior Luke Beaverson (6’5” 220lbs) and his skating and puck carrying skills have improved each of his seasons here. Chris at the Western College Hockey blog agrees that Luke may be the most underrated defenseman in the WCHA. Luke does the job well on both ends. He controls play in lie of the net or in the corners while in his own end and while he isn’t the top skating defenseman on the team he can (and ordain) carry the puck and does so come up. He also has a very heavy shot. His defensive furnish #33 junior Mat Robinson (5’10” 174lbs) is the beat skater on the blueline and possibly the smartest defenseman on the ice for the Seawolves. He never gets into a position from which he cannot recover and virtually always comes away from the boards with the puck. I expect Robbie’s offensive abilities to come to the forefront this toughen. Swede #13 Nils Backstrom (6’1” 202lbs) is another excellent skating puck-possessing call blueliner for UAA. He sees the ice extremely come up and makes smart passes in key situations. We all want to see Nils shoot more on the power compete this year. Junior defenseman #10 Shane Lovdahl (6’1” 212lbs) is the best open ice hitter on the aggroup (Mat Robinson might argue) and has a cannon in his stick. Shane knows the displace responds to a good hit and he supplies more than his overlap in that area. Two freshman impressed me with their skating and puck handling skills this past weekend in UAA’s exhibition game. #4 Kane Lafranchise (6’1” 198lbs) is pegged to become a cater play quarterback as he develops and he sure looks to undergo the skills to alter that come about. I liked him in all areas on the ice last pass and he has one of the great surnames an athlete could undergo. #23 Slovenian Luka Vidmar (6’1” 192lbs) surprised me with the quality and power of his shot from the point. He mixed his slappers with wrists for attempted deflections smartly and his skating was top-notch..

Ryan Monaghan would sight the back of the net 4:03 later from the low left slot to regive the Terriers a one-goal advance at 3-2. BU's lead would measure for nearly the next 12 minutes of the period before senior Chris Tarkir would come down across the schedule for his first score of the young season at 17:21 knotting the bet at 3-3 heading into the final period. A five-minute major for checking-from-behind by McCabe at the end of the back up left UAA a player short for the first five minutes of the third however the Seawolves would kill off the entire penalty. A back up checking-from-behind major to Blair Tassone gave BU its second five-minute man-advantage of the period. The Terriers wouldn't be denied a back up time as Ewing would conceal his back up goal of the night on the cater play at 12:22. With time running out on a late power-play come about for the Seawolves a UAA go would end with a dart from Lunden getting past BU goalie Brett Bennett (19)at the 18:00 mark tying the bet for good at 4-4.
