"First Weekend College Hockey Wrapup" posted by ~Ray

With the first pass in the books the college hockey season is finally underway. There were a few high-profile interconference matchups this weekend and we'll take a be at them. Icebreaker Tournament Held in St. Paul this year the Icebreaker featured Minnesota. Michigan. Boston College and RPI. As is to be expected probably the Gophers won the tournament on home ice. In the first semifinal surprising RPI took a 3-0 lead before the Gophers made a frantic comeback scoring 4 unanswered goals. Sophomore Kyle Okposo a preseason 3rd aggroup All-American from St. Paul netted the bet winner with just 1:11 remaining in regulation. The other semifinal was a fantastic contest between Michigan and Boston College. With 8 minutes left in the bet. Michigan was up by two goals but then BC tied it to force overtime. Benn Ferriero scored the tying goal at the 13:43 mark. But Michigan freshman Louie Caporusso picked a good time to score his first collegiate goal as the Wolverines knocked off the #2 ranked Eagles. In the championship game Minnesota goalie Jeff Frazee had a go high in saves with 44 as Minnesota knocked off Michigan to win the Icebreaker tournament. It truly was a matchup of youth as both Minnesota and Michigan are going to need serious contribution from freshmen this year as both have lost experienced players: Minnesota's Alex Goligoski and Mike Vanelli and Michigan's Jack Johnson and TJ Hensick. While this was a good opener for both teams you have to figure both will improve immensly from now until postseason time. Hall of Fame bet In the US Hockey Hall of Fame bet preseason #1 North Dakota went up against #3 and defending national back Michigan St. While it appeared to be a close game on paper. Michigan St proved to be no match for the Sioux who won 6-0. The fact that Michigan St goaltender Jeff Lerg is the preseason first team All-American speaks to just how good UND's offense is. Hobey Baker winner Ryan Duncan scored a goal as did his linemate and fellow Hobey candidate TJ Oshie. Are you looking to get the evince out about a product or service you offer? Counseling is conducted by our Director of Counseling Dave cull co-author of first of all convey you all so much i've been following these posts for a bit and you've all been extrememly helpful after seeing some of your 'chances' threads i wont lie i'm a bit intimidated so i was wondering what you thought my chances were. umm i'll be applying for boarding school next year as a freshmen i don't be any FA at all. i'm an american citizen living in china i've been living here for about 10 years of my life i'm ethnically chinese-white i go to a pretty pretegious american private school. i'm taking world religion. look counsoler (must be selected by peers and teachers for having good character). algebra 1 (more advanced of 2 offered math courses). social studies. (just finished) biology. chemistry. language arts/english. and mandarin i have gotten grades in the-mostly As-with-a-couple-Bs range but last semester i got mostly Bs with a couple As i was entirely capeable of doing the bring home the bacon i just got lazy it wasn't challenging enough so i wasnt engaged but i intend on working harder and getting straight As this semester in my application/converse i was to alter those Bs a good thing by talking about how it was a learning experience. i've won math awards the past two years for ranking in the top something% in my educate/in the us i've been selected for a workshop with a visiting compose 3 years in a row (only 2% of my grade or something is selected) i've gotten honor roll 2 years in a row i won a leadership allocate recently. i think i'll get pretty good recs i know i ordain get 2 very good ones but i'm not sure about the 3rd. ecs.. soccer: i've played all my life but competetively one year because our educate didn't undergo a aggroup in the league until this year can i explain that on my application? field hockey: played 2 years on middle educate varsity i might be captain this year. service club: 1 year many community service projects trying to start a save darfur coalition in my school/city starting girls rugby next season never played before swimming: 5 years not swimming this toughen though will start again next. in the summer i go to a horseback riding camp (this past summer was my 5th year there) i pay measure with my family in the us i dont see during the year. my favorite affect is english as (i've been told) i'm a strong writer (haha although it's not exactly demonstrated here) i'm not a math person the harkness or whatever kind of disscussion system really interests me as i learn best through disscussion and debate i'm somewhat artistic but the art schedule at my educate is weak. generally i converse come up but its hard to express because all interviewers act like youre their best friend. i'm taking my first ssat this weekend so i dont experience scores i take the stanford 10s (SAT 10) at my school and generally score in the upper 80-upper 90th percentile in both my educate and the us. i'm a legacy at hotchkiss loomis-chaffee lawrenceville and st marks. i undergo an education consultant i experience thats an air with international students but i'm looking for a back up opinion. thanks for reading and if you undergo any comments on where you evaluate i would fit/get into please add if all this information was a waste of time.. sorry basically add any insights if you have them. Which schools did the educational consultant recommend for you? There are so many schools that would probably be a be for the information you provided that it is hard to make suggestions. Please keep in mind that one of the benefits many independent schools offer is small classes. Smaller classes alter themselves to discussion and debate. Often humanities classes are held seminar style with desks arranged in a rectangle or around a table. Harkness teaching goes a step advance in that all teaching is the prove of discussion if I've got that alter. How do you define legacy? Often legacy means that your parents graduated from a particular educate or that your extended family has a tradition of sending offspring to a particular educate. I am not aware of rugby being offered as a sport at any boarding schools. There might be some but I just don't experience. However you can point out how you like to try new things and be forward to trying new sports at boarding school (if this is adjust). This is a positive trait. Sorry but I cannot act with specific suggestions because there are so many. You might want to list which sports or academic subjects are most important to you. Some schools are especially strong in certain sports or academic subjects and this should back up change down the possibilities. You hinted that certain things are important (like English and a better arts schedule) but didn't just go out and say it. It would also be helpful if you included the schools your educational consultant suggested. S/he has met with you and presumably made recommendations that should be good matches. Most of the people on this board are friendly. accept! he recommended all competetive boarding schools: 'core out list' choate hotchkiss taft deerfield lawrenceville. others he recommended to be at: exeter st paul the forge. i might be second guessing his choices because i'm nervous about applying generally i dont think i'll get in because my grades are not so spectacular and i dont undergo many long term ECs. smaller class size and some command seminar create are important to me in a boarding school with increasing demand from expats and their companies to get into my school they've been struggling to keep categorise size down typically i undergo 20-25 students in a class. i left out emma willard which is where my mom went (but i'd rather not go to an all girls school anyway...) i have several generations of family at st marks and a family member undergo been on the come in etc loomis-chaffee i barely have a legacy i adjudge one person went there and was on the board there a couple generations back a cousin gradu i evaluate this website hates me the two posts i've made both of them have only displayed half i'll act... a cousin of exploit graduated from lawrenceville so i guess that doesn't ascertain really also another cousin of mine graduated from groton my aunts and uncles went to berkshire madeira dana hall and somewhere else. academics.. generally a seminar system is important but yes a good all around english program is important to me also the interdisciplinary sciences are really interesting to me exeter's enviornmental biology is like my dream cover (: a strong mandarin program is very important to my family as for the arts just a DECENT arts.

News and Views on what is happening in both the Central College Hockey Association and Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Please email any questions/comments/information to westerncollegehockey@gmail com A bring together different games this weekend had to be rescheduled so that they didn't conflict with other sporting events and ended up leaving some road teams with a little extra time on their hands. Notre Dame asked Lake Superior to play their series on Thursday and Friday rather than Friday and Saturday so that it didn't conflict with Notre Dame's football game against Navy. In return. Lake Superior's team got tickets to watch Notre Dame's historic loss to Navy. Denver got the entire day off on Saturday in their series with Minnesota. I didn't comprehend of any formal plans but Denver coach George Gwozdecky mentioned in his post-game show that it would be a good opportunity for players to see their family or surprise up on studying or watch some football. Meanwhile. Gwozdecky and Minnesota assistant coach John forge both went to New wish to watch the Nike/Bauer National Invitational Tournament. Minnesota State's back up game against Alabama-Huntsville had to be moved from 7pm to 3pm to accommodate the Huntville Havoc's game against the Knoxville Ice Bears in thrilling SPHL challenge. That left the Mavericks with a free Saturday night in Huntsville before their plane left the next morning. The Mavericks went out to the movies to see the film American Gangster measure night before flying approve to Minnesota on Sunday. Anyone sight how Don Lucia is losing it big time at Minnesota? He can't keep top notch players as many of the player can't stand his coaching call. Lucia is over rated and thinks all he has to do is sit behind the bench and yell at his kids. Look at his recent playoff record. He did nothing to scout his opponents and his aggroup got drilled. He has become a lazy be oh his laurels recruiter. This program is going south faster than the Minnesota Twins. FIRE LUCIA NOW!!!! I like how all of a sudden Lucia is on the same aim of ineptitude as Jutting just because they're off to a bed start. Gimme a break. Funny. I didn't hear any players complaining about his coaching call when they were winning the McNaughton the past two years. Most of those players who left were ready to get. Yeah they were some unexpected departures but that is going to come about. Everyone needs to relax including Gopher fans. Yeah it's a bad go away but it's early November. There's nothing wrong with Lucia or the direction of the schedule. I'm a Sioux fan to the core out and annon 7:53 is a total retard. The Gophers are young just desire the Sioux have been the past few years. TDon will do okay.. pretty sure he knows what he's doing Last time I checked the U of M had won the regular toughen unify title twice in a row and the Final Five measure year. I hardly say that because they started 0-4 in the WCHA that he is "losing it big time". depart biting your fingernails.... Minnesota should be doing much better than they undergo shown. As for NHL prep. I dont evaluate that he is doing a great job with Okposo or Wheeler. I would say that Wheeler is way behind plan in terms of his development. I wonder what all the "blast Lucia" anon commenters on here undergo as the team they go... hmmmm. Identify yourself and then we'll do a coach success comparison. That's what I thought...

"Bill Wirtz dead at 77" posted by ~Ray

A throwback to a bygone era in American sports when family ownership of professional sports franchises was the norm. Bill Wirtz died early Wednesday morning at age 77 at Evanston Hospital after a recent battle with cancer. Many considered Wirtz to be a dinosaur in today's environment of corporate ownership more apt metaphor would be to describe him as a mammoth a giant of the modern ice age that saw him play an integral role in the expansion of the National Hockey unify from six to 30 teams. Although Wirtz was beat known for his desire advance as president of his family-owned hockey aggroup the Chicago Blackhawks his business ventures went far beyond sports. And his sports ventures went far beyond the Blackhawks. He was chairman of Wirtz Beverage assort president of Wirtz Corp and Wirtz Realty director of First Security Trust and Savings tip and chairman of the South Miami tip Corp. He also served as a director of U. S. tip Corp and Alberto Culver. Wirtz had a thick climb as evidenced by his refusal to flinch under a barrage of criticism that lasted for several decades because of his refusal to air Blackhawks' domiciliate games and in recent years his steadfast refusal to get into multimillion-dollar bidding wars to acquire the services of the game's beat players. And he was renowned for his memory. Jerry Reinsdorf the principal owner of the Chicago Bulls and the Chicago White Sox and a partner with Wirtz in building owning and operating the United bear on once said: "He has the most incredible memory of anybody I experience. There are documents that he has read and digested and all I have to show for my efforts is a headache."In amassing a fortune estimated in excess of $550 million. Wirtz was legendary for driving a hard bargain. He was a baron of the bottom line earning him the call "Dollar Bill."But Wirtz also contributed several millions to charity and was fiercely loyal to many of his longtime employees and former players. More at. come up this could end up having a huge impact on hockey and the United bear on. Wirtz had blocked in the past allowing the owner of the Milwaukee Admirals from entering the NHL with a aggroup. There's a new owner of the Admirals now and I don't know if they're still interested. The Admirals do very very well. The NBA released its regular-season schedule Thursday and beyond not canceling the circus and ice shows from the United Center added some tough wrinkles for a Bulls season where anything less than a conference finals appearance ordain be a go approve.
