WINNIPEG - Morten Madsen scored the deciding goal in shootout to lift the Houston Aeros over the Manitoba Moose 2-1 in the AHL on Friday. Michael Grabner opened the scoring for Manitoba (14-7-2-1) in the first period getting his seventh of the year. Brad Moran and Mike Keane assisted on the marker. Danny Irmen tied it up for Houston in the second period on a feed from Marco Rosa. Ryan Hamilton also scored in shootout for the Aeros (11-10-1-1). Both Houston's Nolan Schaefer and Manitoba's Drew MacIntyre stopped 28 of 29 shots in regulation time. "It was already torn before. It didn't snap 100 percent. That's why I was not in stupid pain." - New Jersey goalie Martin Brodeur on an injury that required surgery to repair the distal bicep in his left elbow and will require him to miss at least three months.

"Aeros Win Two in Overtime, Thanks to Nolan Schaefer, Maxim Noreau ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-09-27 02:30:48

Do you know why hockey’s like real estate? Because it’s all about closing. If you’re not closing in real estate you’re not making the sale. If you’re not closing in hockey you’re not winning the game. The Aeros had numerous opportunities to close out the game Friday night including seven power play opportunities during the first three periods. But the Aeros couldn’t close. They couldn’t get the puck into the net and if not for the spectacular play in the net of goalie Nolan Schaefer the Aeros would’ve been losers at the end of three periods on Friday night. But Schaefer stopped every shot he faced some in very spectacular head-shaking-in-wonder fashion a total of 26 in all and as the measure reached 00:00 to end the third period the Aeros and Peoria Rivermen were tied at 0-0. The bet had been rough and physical with the bigger Peoria squad trying to outmuscle the Aeros. But then like Mitch and Murray sending Alec Baldwin out to the regional office to talk about the coffee being for closers and Cadillac El Dorados for winners and the third place prize being “,” the Aeros came out on fire and 50 seconds into the overtime closed out the game by closing out their eighth power play opportunity of the night on a Maxim Noreau slap shot into the net winning the game 1-0. After the game. Coach Kevin Constantine sat in his office contemplating the victory: “We’ve played a lot of hockey [6 games in 11 days] and I thought for two periods we played really good then it looked like we ran out of gas in the third but hung in there. So to get the win after hanging in there and making two important things count – one was Schaefer’s goal tending and one was our ability to kill with two men short – it would’ve been sad if we would have survived all of that and not got a win. So it was nice to get that.” Noreau’s game-winning goal was his first as a professional. How did the goal happen? Well according to Noreau. “I just kind of closed my eyes and hoped it went in.” This was also goalie Nolan Schaefer’s first game in weeks as he’s been up in Minnesota backing up Josh Harding. And despite pitching the shutout (to mix up sports metaphors) this wasn’t an easy bet for him because of problems with “just getting back into the rhythm trying to see a few pucks and feel it,” he said. “I made a few bad plays behind the net. The speed difference between the NHL and here is just a little bit different so you have to readjust your timing as a goalie.” Schaefer contends that the hardest difference between the NHL and AHL is “probably the timing difference. Trying to get used to the different speeds. The NHL is like no other unify,” he said. “It’s just a little bit slower here so for a goalie you have to change your timing and it takes a little while to get that back.” Constantine was a little easier on Schaefer saying “The goalie’s the number one penalty killer. And he [Schaefer] was really sharp. So that’s why we got that done.” So always be closing. Schaefer set them up and Noreau sealed the deal. They might not be getting the Cadillac out of the win but they’re definitely not being fired. And as happy as Mitch and Murray might be the 5,534 fans in Toyota Center were probably happier. But Saturday night’s game with the Grand Rapids Griffins had a bit of a different feel. Alec Baldwin was gone. The Glengarry leads had been stolen. Al Pacino’s closed deal was no longer closed. Everyone figured Ed Harris as the thief and the cops were all over the office. These guys couldn’t close a deal if their lives depended on even with the Glengarry leads and the Aeros that started the night before a crowd of 8,034 had the look of a team that couldn’t close a game much less start one. Coach Constantine wasn’t thrilled with the team’s early play either saying. “I thought the difference was last night we really started strong and faded a little and then got a win in overtime. Tonight I thought we started really poorly. I thought we got dominated early.” Coming into the game the Aeros had gone nearly two games without giving up a goal. And Nolan Schaefer looked sharp in the pipes as the game started. But at 18:21 in the first period he gave up the team’s first goal since Wednesday night as Aeros and Griffins converged on the net in what appeared to be a rugby scrum. The first period ended with the Grand Rapids Griffins up 1-0 but the Aeros would tie it up 5:00 into the second period when what appeared to be a Morten Madsen cross-ice pass hit a Griffin’s skate and went into the net. But 34 seconds later the Griffins would go back into the lead when a slap shot would fly past Schaefer. But ten minutes later the Aeros would tie the game as Joel protect would celebrate his birthday by getting his fourth goal of the toughen. Constantine was pleased with this effort especially after the way the team started the game. “We had to recover from that which is hard in hockey. So the hardest part tonight was the fight we had to get ourselves back to the lead…So I thought it was a lot of engrave.” The Aeros would get back into the lead in the third period when Friday’s hero. Maxim Noreau got his second goal in two nights his second goal of his professional career and his second goal off a power play to make the advance 3-2 at the 4:57 mark. The score would stay at 3-2 Aeros for the next ten minutes at which point the Griffins acting as if Alec Baldwin had just paid a visit to their bench scored to tie the game. After the game. Nolan Schaefer summed up his night by stating. “I could have played a lot better myself. This shows we’re trying to work better together as a team.” And working together as a team is what the team would do as once again as on Friday night the team closed out the game in overtime by scoring a goal on a power play. But there was a new closer tonight with defenseman Jon Awe knocking in a slap shot off of a power play 1:30 into overtime giving the Aeros the 4-3 victory. Awe’s goal was his first of the season and after the game he said. “It’s nice to get that monkey off your back. The first one’s always the hardest. Hopefully they’ll pour in from here.” It’s not how you start the game that matters. It’s how the game’s finished. And the game was finished by closing out the victory. Alec Baldwin and Mitch and Murray would be pleased. Even with the Glengarry leads stolen the Aeros found a way to close the deal. The Aeros are back at the.500 attach sitting at 10-10-1-1 on the toughen. But the team will be spending most of December on the road and the Aeros haven’t exactly been the beat of teams on the road this season. As to his birthday goal. Joel Ward said. “It’s always a good feeling to get a goal.” But more important than the goal was the win. “I’m glad to get the win,” he said. “It was good to get the win.” And he believes the team will survive on the road. “We’ve just got battle through,” he said. “Don’t pressure yourself. Just play your game.” Each team always distributes a set of bet notes before the bet. The game notes contain information on the team’s previous games biographical and statistical information on the team’s players and pronunciation guides for the rink announcer. The pronunciation guide is generally limited to what are known as “foreign-sounding” names like guys from Russia. Eastern Europe etc. The Peoria Rivermen pronunciation guide helpfully provided us with the pronunciation for the foreign-sounding names of Glenn. Brooks. Porter. Reaves. Benson and Schwarz. Center Serge Payer who’s been injured most of the season said after Friday’s game that he is much better and will be able to return to action next Friday. Constantine said that defensemen Erik Reitz and Clayton Stone are also close to a return but left wing Peter Olvecky and defensemen Brandon Rogers may be out for awhile. The Aeros have been a team in chaos this season because of injuries in Minnesota which has necessitated the call-up of numerous Aeros and because of injuries to the Aeros. But Constantine thinks that ultimately this may work in the team’s favor: “The really positive good thing from our injuries: younger and other players get experience and confidence. And so now you got them with confidence and now you get other guys back…. And we’ve learned that some guys play. And maybe we made wrong decisions in training camp with some guys that really belonged to be here. If we can ever get healthy then all of this will have been a positive.” Several cities in Canada may be willing to dispute this fact but according to a video being run at Toyota Center that is touting the AHL All-Star Game. Binghamton. New York which is hosting the game is the center of the hockey universe. The Aeros are still having trouble on the cater play converting only 1 of 8 against Peoria and 2 of 7 against Grand Rapids. They are now 17-141 for the season and are still sitting in last-place in the AHL on the cater play. The importance of the power play to the Aeros is reflected by the fact that the Aeros are 7-3-0-1 when scoring a power play goal in a game but only 3-7-1-0 when failing to score a power play goal. The Aeros are now 2-6-0-0 this season versus teams from Illinois. Both of those victories are against Peoria. And with the 1-0 OT victory the Aeros are now 2-10-0-1 on the season for games when scoring less than 3 goals.

The case contend. 2nd displace in the Atlantic Division trailing Providence by just 2 points but with the Bruins holding 2 games in hand are being led by a dazzling first line of future NHL'ers Greg Moore (14G-13A-27Pts). Alex Bourret (5G-10A-15Pts) and AHL RBK Player of the Week. Nigel Dawes (9G-15A-24Pts in just 12 games). Al Montoya 7-4-2 2.34 GAA.914%) is approve in good health and in the win column and displaying the type of goaltending that had him chosen #6 overall in the first go of the 2004 compose. The Wolf case also have Pierre Alexandre Parenteau tearing it up (13G-15A-28Pts) with Andrew Hutchinson (5G-15A-20Pts) and Artem Anisimov (5G-11A-16Pts) also impressing. The case are on a 8-1-0-1 streak and undergo gotten points in their last 8 games. An interesting stat given the be of players that undergo worn the Pack jersey this toughen and how come up the team is playing overall is that there are only 2 players currently on the roster that stand on the short side of the +/-. They would be Bourret (-6) and Matt Waddell (-1). If you expand it beyond just the current players and be at the entire toughen on the whole you'd add Dave Scatchard (-1 in 3 games). Ryan Constant (-2 in 7 games). Bruce Graham (-2 in 10 games) and attach Lee (-2 in 10 games). Considering the number of early injuries with Charlotte call-ups coming with little to no notice or learn with the aggroup its a testament not only to the fine job that rookie continue instruct Ken Gernander is doing with Assistants J. J. Daigneault and Pat Boller getting the team create from raw material night in and night out but also to the outstanding job draw GM/instruct Derek Wilkinson is doing in Charlotte. Then there are the Minnesota Wild's do work team the Houston Aeros. They've not been especially good this toughen and are currently residing in 7th place in the Western Division. However the Aeros undergo been playing better of late having won their measure 4 in a row and are riding a 6-3-0-1 streak. They are on a northern displace road trip that also includes visits to Springfield. Worcester and Providence that ordain measure over the pass. In goal the Aeros undergo former Manchester Monarch Barry Brust defending their net (5-7-1 2.58 GAA.908%) and journeyman AHL'er Nolan Schaefer (7-4-0 2.31 GAA.916%) whom the case undergo seen in many of his previous incarnations in Worcester. Hershey and Wilkes-Barre. The Aeros are having trouble putting pucks in the net. Their top scorers are Erik Reitz (5G-9A-14pts in 16 games). Petr Kalus (5G-5A-10pts in 23 games) and Steve Kelly (4G-6A-10pts in 17 games). When your leading goal scorer roughly a third of the way through the season only has 5 goals your team is in trouble. The Aeros are no droop behind the bench as they are led by Kevin Constantine who in 1993-94 as head coach of the San Jose Sharks led a first-round disturb of Detroit in the Western Conference Quarterfinals. He was the runner-up to current Minnesota Wild continue instruct Jacques Lemaire for the bring up Adams Trophy as the NHL’s top coach that same year after the Sharks improved from a league-record 58 points. Constantine is the only NHL coach to ever bring about a unify of eight seeds over a No. 1 seed having also led Pittsburgh over New Jersey in 1998-99. "Scott Lewis Update, Rotation Set" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:03:00

According to the Indians. Lewis is not cause to be perceived per say. After his last go away in the regular season he mentioned some tingling and numbness in his left pitching arm so the Indians brass just decided to play it safe and change state him drink. It’s a good big-picture move for Lewis who’s had Tommy John surgery and pitched on a limited pitch ascertain (70) all measure toughen. This year the Aeros slowly built up his innings by cautiously expanding his fling limit from 70 to 100 by season’s end. comfort that’s a lot of extra work for an arm that was so limited the previous year. Rather than risk anything. Lewis was change state drink for the playoffs. That’s one of the reason’s right-hander Jake Dittler ended up throwing bet Two Thursday in Erie. The other cerebrate is that because the Aeros went on such a hot run at the end of the regular season and almost caught Erie the aggroup wasn’t able to rest some key starters and set up the rotation for the playoffs. Thus the team comes domiciliate today with the best-of-five series tied 1-1. Left-hander Jeremy Sowers goes tonight (Friday) for the Aeros followed by right-hander Bobby Brownlie scheduled for bet Four Saturday. If a Game Five approve in Erie is needed. Aeros manager Tim Bogar said Thursday night that he expects to go away Adam Miller. The Aeros ace last seson. Miller came in on relief for Chuck Lofgren in the first bet of the series Wednesday allowing four runs on five hits in just two innings. I’ll bet you would undergo been the first person to charge about poor management if he had blown out his elbow. Remember he was already coming off problems the year before and by the way had more jostle problems this year in cow. Win a AA title at any be change surface if the look never plays in Cleveland. GOOD THINKING!!!!! Jim my problem wasn’t with limiting Miller’s innings measure season so you can hop drink off your high horse now. It was the lack of foresight as to when to do it. I’m not some idiot who wants the organization to push prospects to 200 innings. I don’t experience if you remember or not but Akron had wrapped up the Southern Division with at least three weeks left in the toughen last year. My complaint was that they then continued to start Miller until the end of the regular season. They had change state him down for a week or two at the end of the first half as a precautionary measure but not the second half. Sorry there was no communicate here for me to voice my complaints at the measure but trust me when I say that I was mad at the measure that they weren’t giving Miller rest and saving his arm for the playoffs. It was no secret that they were concerned about his innings throughout the toughen… but mysteriously not in the back up half of August.

"Aeros Starters Getting Pounded" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 11:59:39

Considering the Aeros only knew who their first two starting pitchers were heading into the Eastern League Southern Division Playoffs the aggroup could be in some serious trouble. In chosing throw Lofgren and Jake Dittler to start the first two games the Aeros were basically saying these are our beat two guys right now. But Lofgren gave up four runs on seven hits in five innings Wednesday and Dittler really blew it by allowing NINE earned runs on eight hits and five walks tonight. Yes the Aeros managed to pull out a 12-9 victory in bet One thanks to the offense pounding out 16 hits. And as I write this post the aggroup trails just 9-6 at the end of four innings. “Just” in that the team has time to beat a three-run deficit if they get back to hitting. But the fact that Erie has pummeled Akron starting pitchers for 13 runs in the first two games does not bode well for the Aeros. Sure lefty Jeremy Sowers who started the toughen in the Indians rotation is scheduled to throw today’s Game Three in Akron. But remember he’s been demoted to Triple-A Buffalo for a reason. And if he looks anything like the Aeros other “ringer” in flame-throwing Adam Miller did Wednesday (four runs on five hits in just two innings) this could quickly become an ugly series. This entry was postedon Thursday. September 6th. 2007 at 9:21 pmand is filed under. You can go any responses to this entry through the feed. You can or from your own site. Are we sure that Dittler wasn’t just some sort of appeasement to Erie for the whole Sowers fiasco? I mean it’s not like his performance tonight should really surprise anyone (I was only surprised to see he was pitching). I bequeath thinking how unlucky I was that Dittler seemed to always be starting the Akron games that I went to… and that was two or three years ago. He comfort haunts me. Here’s hoping that Sowers changes the Aeros pitching fortunes tomorrow night… especially since I’ll be there. I’ve been a little out of touch… has the game #4 starter been determined and has there been any update on Scott Lewis’ injury? Poor Jake. He and JD Martin were my two favorites from the 2001 high educate right handers drafted. I’ve seen Jake pitch some really excellent games over the years. It’s tough to see him struggle now. He’s a good guy and I’m not sure he deserved to be put in that situation but that’s the way it goes sometimes. I’m sure he’s not happy with his performance. I was shocked to see that he was starting after being out for a month. Not a good decision obviously.

I bequeath thinking how unlucky I was that Dittler seemed to always be starting the Akron games that I went to… and that was two or three years ago. He still haunts me. Here’s hoping that Sowers changes the Aeros pitching fortunes tomorrow night… especially since I’ll be there. I’ve been a little out of touch… has the bet #4 starter been determined and has there been any modify on Scott Lewis’ injury? Poor Jake. He and JD Martin were my two favorites from the 2001 high educate alter handers drafted. I’ve seen Jake fling some really excellent games over the years. It’s tough to see him struggle now. He’s a good guy and I’m not sure he deserved to be put in that situation but that’s the way it goes sometimes. I’m sure he’s not happy with his performance. I was shocked to see that he was starting after being out for a month. Not a good decision obviously.
