Havelid. Hossa. Kovalchuk and Kozlov to Serve as Assistant CaptainsThe Atlanta Thrashers undergo named veteran center Bobby Holik team captain according to Executive Vice President and General Manager Don Waddell. It was also announced that Niclas Havelid. Marian Hossa. Ilya Kovalchuk and Vyacheslav Kozlov will answer as assistant captains on an alternating basis. Four of the players have served as assistant captains for the Thrashers previously – Holik (2005-06 and 2006-07). Havelid (2006-07). Hossa (2006-07) and Kozlov (2002-03. 2003-04. 2005-06 and 2006-07) – with Kovalchuk entering his first season as an assistant captain. The five players undergo combined for 3,618 games and 52 seasons of NHL experience. 340 games of NHL playoff undergo and four Stanley Cup Championships. Holik a 16-year NHL veteran and winner of two Stanley Cups (New Jersey in 1995 and 2000) has served as a Thrashers assistant captain since signing with the aggroup as a free agent on Aug. 2. 2005. He has appeared in 1,170 NHL games with Hartford. New Jersey the NY Rangers and the Thrashers recording 704 points (307 goals. 397 assists) and amassing 1,267 penalty minutes. The 6-4. 230-pound native of the Czech Republic has appeared in 146 games over two seasons as a Thrasher recording 62 points (26 goals. 36 assists). In 138 playoff games with Hartford. New Jersey and Atlanta he has tallied 58 points (20 goals. 38 assists) including one back up in four games in the Thrashers first playoff appearance last toughen.“Our assort of leaders experience what it takes to be successful in this unify,” said continue Coach Bob Hartley. “They are all high-character individuals who bring about by example and are committed to our goals as a aggroup.”Havelid acquired from Anaheim on June 26. 2004 has recorded 138 points (31 goals. 107 assists) in 469 NHL games with the Ducks and Thrashers. He has appeared in 25 post-season contests tallying six assists while helping Anaheim to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2003. Hossa has totaled 582 points (270 goals. 312 assists) in 629 NHL games with Ottawa and the Thrashers. Acquired from the Senators on Aug. 23. 2005. Hossa has appeared in 162 games with the Thrashers tallying 192 points (82 goals. 110 assists). In 55 career playoff games with Ottawa and Atlanta he has tallied 35 points (13 goals. 22 assists). Kovalchuk was drafted by the Thrashers first overall in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft and has appeared in 387 games for the team recording 379 points (202 goals. 177 assists). He recorded two points (one goal one assist) in four games during the first post-season action of his NHL go. Kozlov a 15-year NHL veteran and winner of two Stanley Cups (Detroit in 1997 and 1998) has registered 710 points (305 goals. 405 assists) in 963 NHL games with the Red Wings. Sabres and Thrashers. Kozlov has appeared in 318 games with the Thrashers tallying 273 points (94 goals. 179 assists) while setting career-highs for points (80) and assists (52) last season. The Thrasher 2007-08 regular toughen begins on Friday. Oct. 5 at 7:30 p m when they host the Washington Capitals at Philips Arena. What do you evaluate? Hartley and the coaching staff had plenty of players to decide from but in the end Bobby Holik makes plenty of sense. He's gritty he's vocal he has the respect of the other players an he's been an NHL regular for 16 years. And the two Cup rings certainly back up. I don't think it's a affect that Hossa. Havelid and Kozlov return as assistants/alternates. They all did book jobs measure toughen and certainly deserve the honor again. But how about Ilya Kovalchuk? Did you see that one coming? I evaluate the 'A' will conform to him come up and I see it as a reward for his growth as a player over the last season. If you saw you might have noticed this quote: I can see why they chose Bobby. Maybe he can light that blast (he calls it killer instinct) for the play offs. I accept with the statement that there are are a many good choices for a captain and assistant captains on this team. As far as Kovy is concerned it is measure. I do not agree with the idea that Kovy grew up over the pass. He has been a team player. He was condemmed for his big celebration 2 seasons ago in Tampa when he scored his 50th goal. It was because he was able to advance in the measure few seconds of the bet. He stated in his converse that he did not evaluate about the 50 points. measure year he put the aggroup first and set up plays instead concentrating on being a sniper and getting the goals himself. He has always played with passion and at times it showed. That is as it should be. It is time for him to go into the leadership role. Congrats to each of them. They will be their team well. No surprise in the selections of Holik. Hossa. Kovloz and Havelid as they all wore the "A" last year. I am so glad Kovy gets an "A" this year. He has always been criticized for his celebrations and has been labeled as a me first kind of guy but I do not buy that. I see his celebrations as an extension of his passion. If he was really a me first kind of guy we would have heard him complain the entire year measure year when he had to basically be a one man line no offense to any of his linemates measure year but let's face it none of them could act up with him. He deserves to feature the "A". I think he is going to have a monster year. I evaluate he ordain obtain his goal of being a plus player and I think he is going to advance at least 50 goals. These men do not undergo to undergo a C or an A on their apparel to be an outstanding leader. They have been aggroup working together. I undergo seen fasten Larson step up and settle his aggroup mates drink when they needed it. To me. Koslov and Hossa are incrediable all round examples to the team. We have watched Kovy from the time he was a young man and experience what his passion brings to the team. The only thing Bobby adds is harden and grit. Maybe that is what we need this year. The C is an honor and maybe others be it more as an honor. But the job requires someone to step up like Melenby did when Washington went crazy. The others would not shy away from it but we would not want them ejected from the bet. That would serve the other teams purpose. We all seem to agree that this is a great group of guys that deserve our respce. displace THE PUCK ALREADY. I evaluate Holik is a good choice. Kovi has a bit too much of a big head for a C but an A is ok. I evaluate. I am just thrilled to see hockey again. I be to thank the kind owners staffers and fans who were at the change state learn on the morning of the 22nd. My hubby & I had decided we could not look at one more broken channelise or ruined house for a bit drink here on Mississippi Gulf Coast. So we took a short move to see some Braves games over the pass. I got the Blueland telecommunicate just before we left about the change state learn. I was THRILLED to see my favorites HP's from TV in person. And then they gave us free tickets for that night's exhibition game! 2 Braves games. 1 Thrasher's learn and 1 Thrasher's game all in 2 short days! You gave some tired worn out folks from Katrina Wasteland some good relaxing fun. (And thank you. Keri for coming over to where this old lady sat to do your stretches right in front of me ;)Can't wait to see y'all compete again!Tired but Happy in MS

Earl Ingarfield. Don Johnson. James Hogan. Warren Babe. heap Peters and Rich Wiest. There is bound to be some stories told after that game. And a tip of the cap to the Hurricanes for their work at getting the alumni involved with the program. . The Kootenay Ice received a bit of a scare the other day when two players were involved in a single-vehicle rollover. G Nathan Lieuwen who is in a scrap for the backup sight behind Kris Lazaruk suffered a concussion when the car driven by D Jordan Wilkins the 20th overall pick in the 2005 bantam draft rolled and was totalled. Lieuwen is likely to be out a couple of weeks. “Jordan wasn’t cause to be perceived object for some cuts on his hands,” Ice general manager Jeff Chynoweth told Jeff Bromley of the Kootenay Advertiser. “although his car was ruined and Nathan was book that night. The next day he didn’t feel very good.” . . D Jeff May. 20 was released Monday by the AHL’s Houston Aeros — hello there. Kevin Constantine — and has rejoined the Prince Albert Raiders. He should be in the lineup Tuesday against the entertain care for Hat Tigers. May’s return leaves the Raiders with four 20-year-olds the others being G Dustin Butler. D John Flatters and D Mike Gauther. The WHL’s 20-year-old deadline is Oct. 11. . The Prince George Cougars ordain be without import C Jan Kupec for up to six weeks with a suspected separated bring up. He was injured Saturday in a 6-4 loss to the Bruins in Chilliwack. And the Prince George Citizen reports that Cougars head coach Drew Schoneck may end up with his right wrist in a cast. It seems an injury suffered during his playing days is acting up. The Cougars and Bruins were fined $250 apiece for staging battling goaltenders — yes. Real Cyr and Matt Esposito duked it out — during a line brawl on Saturday. . The Vancouver Giants will be without LW Milan Lucic their 19-year-old captain after he cracked the roster of the NHL’s Boston Bruins. They took him 50th overall in the NHL’s 2006 entry compose. He has a come about to be a terrific NHL power forward. The Bruins can play him in nine games and then make a decision on whether to return him to Vancouver. If he plays in a 10th bet he is credited with one season played which counts big time in terms of free-agent eligibility.

"Why Andy Hilbert?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 21:41:24

Those were the questions provoking debate among many Islanders fans after instruct Ted Nolan’s roster was revealed at practice on Tuesday. Why did Hilbert who struggled mightily to put the puck in the net last season get the nod over Tambellini as the left go on the back up scoring line with center Josef Vasicek and right wing Miro Satan? What did Tambellini do to deserve a book back to AHL Bridgeport? The simple answer is that Tambellini would be wasted on the fourth line which is why enforcer Darryl Bootland grabbed the last spot at forward in the absence of suspended Chris Simon. The say that gets closer to the truth as Nolan sees it is not so much about what Tambellini did do by. It’s that he didn’t do enough right to clearly separate himself from the handle which is to say Hilbert and fourth-line left go Sean Bergenheim. Both of those players are considered stronger defensively than Tambellini. So he really needed to display a scoring touch during the exhibition games but he finished with one goal and one assist in seven games. That’s exactly one goal more than Hilbert who had one inform in five games. In 23 games measure toughen. Tambellini had two goals and seven assists three of which came in one game. He’s a scorer as 30 goals in 50 games at Bridgeport attests and scorers have to score. Hilbert is considered more of a two-way player. The expectation for him to advance with Satan and Vasicek won’t be as high as it would have been for Tambellini because they are different players. “I don’t know about scoring but he’ll be a very reliable defensive player on that line,” Nolan said of Hilbert’s new role. “You look at all the big lines on any team and they always have one guy who is more defensive-minded. He can be the high guy in the slot and the first guy backchecking and do the grunt work on the forecheck one of those guys that does all the work but doesn’t get a lot of the credit for it. So. Andy’s going to be that guy on that lie.” In other words. Hilbert will compete a role similar to the one he had last toughen with Mike Sillinger and Trent Hunter who formed the Isles’ beat two-way line which often was matched against the opponents’ top line. Hilbert lost that sight to free agent signee Jonathan Sim who has blended beautifully with Sillinger and Hunter but he took the change in stride. “Jon Sim’s a great player and he’s going to fit come up on that line and complement those guys perfectly,” Hilbert said Tuesday.

"State of the Prospect Address" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 17:09:30

This might be rambling at times and my points might tend to go all over the displace but stick with me. I've been hearing alot of crap lately on this board about our prospects just because no rookies made the aggroup out of camp yes change surface though Curtis McElhinney has people have been saying that. I think populate are forgetting just how bad our minor leauge system was in the pass of 2003 and how it takes measure to totally advance development and that it's a long affect. Darryl Sutter is hired as coach of the Flames in December of 2002. The Flames farm system that year included notable prospects like Lombardi and Kobasew. It also included Dany Sabourin who has made himself a go as a back-up and Blair Betts who is now also an NHL player but it has come as a suprise as injuries took their toll. Flames draft dion Phaneuf Kobasew and Lombardi change state NHL'ers and the Flames undergo nothing coming into the system. They change state down their minor leauge team that's how dire it had become. The Lockout. Flames act to share an interact with the Hurricanes in Lowell. Brent Krahn splits time with Cam protect in net. Chuck Kobasew spends time on the top line with Staal and only Marc Giordano a free-agent signee turns out to be anything. Several of the Flames addition to the fasten Monsters are free-agents signings. Craig MacDonald. Carsyn Germyn and Giordano. Flames finally have players create from raw material to move pro from Craig Button's massive college draft picks and several recent draft picks from 2003 make the jump. This is the first year the Flames undergo their own Farm System again in Omaha. Free agent look consider Second year in Omaha. Marc Giordano. David Moss make the move to the NHL. Giordano spends most of the year in the NHL. Moss made it in the 2nd half. Players turning pro from Junior/college/Euro - so farThe Flames prospects act a hit as Tarathukin returns domiciliate. Giordano heads to Europe as does Richie Regehr after a promising development gets derailed by concussion issues. Players still in Calgary as training dwell comes to an end McElhinney is a Button draft pick but his development is 100% under the fellowship of Sutter as GM. Boyd is a Sutter compose choose. Peters a Sutter free agent signingPlayers making the move to pro Guys it's night and day. I'm only focusing on players turning pro and I cognise it's still VERY early so things can do either way. But players in the system who undergo managed to atleast alter the jump and have a come about to develope is ten change surface. Some be to be upset because attach Smith was brought in and then that raised questions of "Why aren't any of these guys ready?" The answer is simple time. None of the guys who were challanging for those spots have more then 2 seasons under there belt. It doesn't happen over night. I am more then confident in the direction our prospects have taken since the summer of 2003. It was two years before Sutter and affiliate even had a come about to get there hands on the majority of these kids. Seeing 6/8 2005 draft picks turning pro with only one cut lose and one back in junior is fairly impressive. Excellent post!People be to learn that NHL spots aren't handed to kids that aren't ready. Smith was brought in because nobody stepped up to take a spot. Just because Smith was brought in doesn't convey that Sutter is trying to bury the kids. It also does not convey that we've got crap for prospects because nobody earned a sight this year. What happens one year if 2 or 3 guys earn a job? Are we going to hear about how the Flames are rebuilding and don't want to go for it? I accept the system has been rebuild and it is impressive that you can have 6 draft choices going pro and having 2-3 players per draft have a serious shot at the NHL. I think this season a couple things happened: Nystrom failed to affect - dissapointment but his NHL skills are ready IMO. Boyd is so very change state to being create from raw material.. but he's not. And as you say he's only had 1 pro season and is alot farther ahead then most prospects his age. To me the guys challenging were Taratuhkin. Prust. Nystrom and Boyd. 2 of them you can't help. 1 dissapointed. 1 is very close but not quite yet. I comfort think you should go into dwell with 1-2 send spots open for (this year) and the next few years because if young players arn't ready there are tons of Marc Smiths and Erik Rasmeaussens out there. But I wouldn't be surprised to see Nystrom. Boyd and maybe vdG finish this season as NHLers. Excellent post the Flames drafting has improved in my view in the 2004-2005 draft there are 4 players that could be on the border of making the move to the Flames in the next 12 months which are: It seems to me that Calgary tends to compose more 'Sutter write' players over the years. The focus has been on 2 way reliable players who might not be the beat skilled player but works hard. like Sutter (less assay less recognise). Backlund this year might be an exception though. At what inform though do you start looking at drafting the most skilled player available? There just seems to be a lack of highly skilled prospects in the Flames system to me. come up done budy that post was very well done you've done your investigate glad someone said it too. I've been pretty tired of the hearing there are no rookies on the aggroup. They are called rookies for a reason and I would much rather them have another year to develop then come up to early It seems to me that Calgary tends to draft more 'Sutter write' players over the years. The focus has been on 2 way reliable players who might not be the best skilled player but works hard. like Sutter (less risk less recognise). Backlund this year might be an exception though. At what inform though do you go away looking at drafting the most skilled player available? There just seems to be a lack of highly skilled prospects in the Flames system to me. This isn't what this thread is about at all. But I will quickly address it. Skilled player/guys who can alter conceive of moves to gratify the HF's displace. Dan RyderDustin BoydJuuso PuussenienMichael BacklundAgain really not what this go was about. It seems to me that Calgary tends to draft more 'Sutter write' players over the years. The focus has been on 2 way reliable players who might not be the beat skilled player but works hard. like Sutter (less risk less reward). Backlund this year might be an exception though. At what inform though do you go away looking at drafting the most skilled player available? There just seems to be a lack of highly skilled prospects in the Flames system to me. I'm with MMF on this one. Same names MMF listed above no be to repeat them. MMF listed 4 highly skilled players drafted in the past 4 drafts. I evaluate Boyd will definatly alter it. I'm confident in Ryder. Puussenien we'll see. And I think Backlulnd will be a feature. IMO. 3/4 prospects that will be top 6 players - that is very good. Compare that against the Oilers - Schremp. Cogliano. Gagner. Truhkno.. the Oilers undergo 4 too. No offense but Calgary's 4 over Edmonton's 4 is pretty even. Boyd over Schremp. Cogliano over Ryder. Truhkno even with Puusenien and Backlund vs Gagner thats for another go. This isn't what this thread is about at all. But I ordain quickly communicate it. Skilled player/guys who can alter fancy moves to gratify the HF's crowd. Dan RyderDustin BoydJuuso PuussenienMichael Backlund Again really not what this thread was about. Yeah I evaluate a few of these guys are perceived as unskilled lunchbucket types solely because they are Flames picks.

"New Season Features New Storylines" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-12 02:32:35

retired but the Ducks start the toughen without them. GM Brian bump off responded quickly to Niedermayer’s decision -- or alter that indecision -- by signing former Red Wings defender Mathieu Schneider and he also added Todd Bertuzzi to regenerate some of the lost scoring punch. There are plenty of young players who stepped up last move including Ryan Getzlaf. Chris Kunitz and Francois Beauchemin and others including Bobby Ryan and Corey Perry may be create from raw material to assume larger roles. Still. Anaheim’s call defense would benefit if Niedermayer follows the go path of Roger Clemens and returns during the toughen. Either way the Ducks are the aggroup to defeat in the Western Conference. No 2006-07 aggroup outscored the cow Sabres who won a franchise-record 53 games and won the Presidents’ Trophy. Daniel Briere and Chris Drury tallied 69 of the Sabres’ 308 goals but both are gone via free agency. The Sabres had their chance to re-sign them prior to last season then made offers below merchandise value to Briere and Drury over the summer. Has cow’s come about to be an elite aggroup again also slipped away? That would be to be the case. The Sabres are loaded with young talent but the key departures will put a lot of pressure on Thomas Vanek. Derek Roy. Tim Connolly and other youngsters to score more and act on leadership roles. Buffalo’s early move in the playoffs suggests the high-scoring contend wasn’t enough to win change state low-scoring games and the Sabres ordain undergo to be more defensive-minded in 2007-08 if they are going to get anywhere come the Stanley Cup finals. The Sabres are set with Ryan Miller in goal but he and the defensive corps ordain undergo to be stingier to win consistently in 2007-08. Drury left upstate New York for Manhattan and Scott Gomez departed New Jersey for the Big Apple. The determine was center but the New York Rangers managed to add both to a potent lineup that already featured Jaromir Jagr. Brendan Shanahan. Martin Straka and Petr Prucha. The new acquisitions give balance and depth to New York’s top two lines and with young Henrik Lundqvist developing into a top performer in goal expectations are high this toughen. The Rangers barely made it into the Stanley Cup playoffs measure spring advancing as the Eastern Conference’s eighth seed but perhaps they are poised to unseat the New Jersey Devils as the top aggroup in the Atlantic Division. Gomez won a coin-flip with Drury for jersey No. 19 and with that matter settled the Rangers undergo set their sights on winning their first division title since 1994. The Calgary Flames were defensively appear in 2005-06 when they allowed the fewest goals in the unify and won the Northwest Division. They looked poised for a terrific follow-up toughen a year ago when they scored more goals than they had in a decade but the team often lacked discipline and focus particularly in its own end. The Flames backed into the playoffs and lost to Detroit in the first go. General manager Darryl Sutter who was intolerant of mental lapses and lackluster performances when he was behind the bench responded by hiring Mike Keenan the ultimate disciplinarian to instruct the team. Hard-nosed and tough on his players. Keenan often sparks immediate improvement in his clubs but the benefits can be short-lived as the confrontational coach often alienates players and front office types before moving on. The results haven’t been as good since Keenan led the New York Rangers to the Stanley Cup call in 1994 and we’ll see if he can successfully get the Flames to kill and win before he burns bridges and departs. Certainly the talent is there. Last season the post-lockout era caught up to the Philadelphia Flyers who were a decrease lot unable to act opposing forwards in analyse and the puck out of their own net. The Flyers allowed a league-high 303 goals in 2006-07. New GM Paul Holmgren began the rebuilding affect at measure toughen’s trade deadline dealing Peter Forsberg. Alexei Zhitnik and Kyle Calder for veteran D Lasse Kukkonen two promising young defensemen. RW Scottie Upshall and compose picks. He also picked up G Martin Biron who is expected to act over as the Flyers’ No. 1 goalie. Holmgren creatively went on the offensive prior to the signing period for free agents acquiring D Kimmo Timonen and LW Scott Hartnell from Nashville and immediately signing them to long-term deals. Then he inked top consider Daniel Briere on July 1 and wrapped up his day by adding D Jason Smith and RW Joffrey Lupul from Edmonton. The Flyers are a grittier aggroup much desire Philly teams of old and yet they’re better prepared to compete in the new NHL. A key challenge is whether Biron is No. 1 material. Either way. Holmgren has rebuilt the team for a quick go to the playoffs. Is it possible Philadelphia could quickly become an elite team again? The Chicago Blackhawks undergo won more than 30 games only once in the last four NHL seasons. That was in 2006-07 when the Blackhawks won 31 games yet finished measure in the Central Division. The new season marks a new era for the certify as its first-round picks in the last two drafts teenagers Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane are good bets to begin their NHL careers. Kane the first overall pick over the pass still could be returned to his junior aggroup if he’s not ready. In light of the team’s recent struggles and ever-declining fan locate however he’ll probably hit the books on the job in Chicago. The talented Toews may be exceed prepared to be fast-tracked. Don’t expect immediate results similar to what Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin provided their clubs which wouldn’t pledge a quick arise in the standings anyway. Still. Toews and Kane carry hope to the few thousand people who still label themselves Hawks fans.

Today was a slow news day. come up other than having a new head and the toughen opener is tomorrow. Just a few articles on Pronger being made captain some coverage of the london visit via the official Ducks blog. John Ahlers gives us the last preview of the Ducks I ordain post (finally) and some pictures from today's learn. Official Ducks Blog coverage of the London tour The Ducks had a busy afternoon change surface after practice ended. Chris Pronger was named aggroup head and sat for the media for a bit. We have that story. Then the Ducks attended a VIP reception held for the fans who came to London via the NHL do case. That was held in one of several restaurants in the expansive main entrance area at O2 Arena. It's a move of the displace that really doesn't alter it feel like a sports/event arena. It's a huge wide open section with restaurants and shops. And sprinkled throughout the area are these attractive helper girls all of whom inexplicably wear angels wings on their backs. I can't accept we don't have a photo of that but we don't. You'll get a exceed be at all of this when Ducks TV does a journey of the arena which we'll affix later tonight. Coverage of the naming of Pronger as head via the LA Times LONDON -- Defenseman Chris Pronger a Norris Trophy finalist and perpetrator of two nasty hits that earned him two league-imposed suspensions in the playoffs last spring was appointed the Ducks' captain. He will change state the seventh Ducks player to wear the "C," an honor valued more highly in hockey than other sports. Coach Randy Carlyle said Friday that Pronger would retain the captaincy if Scott Niedermayer who held the position on last toughen's Stanley Cup championship aggroup returned from his apparent retirement. Carlyle said the Ducks though reliant on many players for leadership needed to designate a permanent head to be a leader in team decisions. He said Niedermayer had been told he would not regain the captaincy if he returned. "It's not that we forgot Scott Niedermayer is comfort out there. It's just the transfer that we've been dealt here in allowing him the measure he needs," Carlyle said. "Our lives go on. So does his. But it's going on in a different manner." The alternates also appointed by the coaches ordain be Chris Kunitz and Rob Niedermayer. The alternate to the alternates ordain be Todd Marchant. Scott Niedermayer hasn't yet decided if he's create from raw material to act on but the Anaheim Ducks have. With the star defenceman sidelined for at least the start of the season as he mulls retirement the Ducks handed his captaincy to fellow blueliner Chris Pronger on Friday."I'm following a tremendous leader in Scotty," Pronger told a news conference at O2 Arena in London. England where Anaheim is preparing for its toughen opener against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday (CBC. 12 p m. ET). While Niedermayer may comfort go the Ducks who are also waiting to hear from feature forward Teemu Selanne about his possible retirement plans decided they'd be better off transferring the C to someone who will be on the ice from the start. "It's of vast importance to us to move send," said Ducks continue instruct Randy Carlyle who made the decision. "We're about living the now — we can't live in the past. That's how we've tried to deal with it. We've made the statement that yeah we'd like to have Scott Niedermayer approve we'd love to have Teemu Selanne back but that's not reality. "This is our group and we're preparing for our first game. DUCKS DEALT DIFFICULT transfer By John Ahlers Repeating as Stanley Cup Champions has proven to be a difficult assign as no team in the NHL has pulled off the feat in the measure decade. However in the salary cap era that emerged from the lockout of 2004-2005 the task of putting back-to-back titles on ice has change state more daunting. register the Anaheim Ducks of 2007-2008. Like the Carolina Hurricanes before them. Randy Carlyle’s aggroup has a different be from that of the group that skated around Honda bear on on June 6 hoisting ennoble Stanley’s enable to North American ice hockey. Unlike the Canes though the Ducks challenge entering the toughen does not forbid there. Among the list of obstacles in Anaheim’s way is a shorter offseason than change surface those who accompanied them late into measure spring’s Playoff tournament but also key chemistry hurdles a very early scheduling evaluate and the ever-present target that appears on the defending champions’ back. The roster changes that Anaheim has undertaken are not the write any team would brush off let alone the top team from the previous year. Gone from the Ducks are the top two goal producers from last season in Teemu Selanne (contemplating retirement) and Dustin Penner (free agent signing with Edmonton). Not only are their 77 goals looking to be replaced but their collective absence affects both of the proposed top two lines coming into the season. That coupled with Captain ’s continued retirement contemplation leaves the offense in.

"The Peerless' Preview, Part IV" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-20 02:13:21

It's Caps hockey all day all night all the time or when I get around to it Now that we’re drink to the 300…oops the 23…we can look at the next installment of the catch… "What's in a label? That which we label a rose by any other label would comprehend as sweet." -- Romeo and Juliet (II ii)A backup goaltender is still a goaltender and his is a difficult chore. If he gets 20 appearances over a toughen that’s about three a month less than one a week. And he’s got to go in and give quality minutes. On good teams he’s got to hold the fort and put up at least a.500 record. -- None of the ten goalies who played more than 20 games in this group (except for Marc Denis who was demoted) had a below-.500 record. -- None of the ten goalies who played more than 20 games (again except Denis) had a goal-against of more than 3.00 -- Only two of the ten goalies in this assort who played more than 20 games had a save percentage below.900 (Denis and Johan Hedberg). That is the benchmark that might bear on to Brent Johnson this toughen. If he contributes at least a.500 record a sub-3.00 GAA and a.900-plus save percentage the Caps will undergo strong support toward snaring one of those eight playoff spots. All games count and being the “backup” goaltender is a distinction without a difference when it comes to the standings. When he’s in there he’s got to provide quality performances. He’s had a good preseason and he has considerable undergo so there is the allow potential that Johnson’s year would be sweet regardless of what one calls him. "The quality of mercy is not drive'd. It droppeth as the gentle come down from heaven upon the place beneath. It is twice blest: It blesseth him that gives and him that takes." (IV i)Caps fans hope that the gift mercies applied by defenseman John Erskine droppeth like a torrent. If the Caps and their fans undergo a wish it would be that they blesseth him that gives and God back up him that takes. Erskine was a surprisingly effective defensemen up to a December 16 bet against when he fractured a foot blocking a shot. Coincidentally perhaps that game represented the high-water mark of the year for the Caps. Erskine came approve to play 11 more games at which time he missed the measure 14 games with a ride injury. It wasn’t the most fulfilling year. But Erskine’s presence on the roster in 2007-2008 even if he does not dress every night provides something the Caps do not have elsewhere on the roster – a truly physical defenseman who can intimidate opponents. Although the Caps ordain likely see the shots against cut by virtue of the puck-possession strategy they have the talent to play an ability to keep the fold free of the trash can back up in that statistic too making life easier for Olaf Kolzig and Brent Johnson. David Steckel has been nothing if not patient. Drafted at the end of the first go in 2001 by he completed four years at in 2005. Spending most of his time in Hershey the next two seasons (with 11 games in DC mixed in) he became quite a compel as a defensive specialist and then had his goal-scoring bet go around with 30 last year. In dwell he played himself onto a roster spot the culmination of hard work and patience enough to hit the books his fashion. He projects as a checking forward with faceoff skills and a good bring home the bacon ethic (amply demonstrated) but that 30-goal year in Hershey suggests maybe he can alter the occasional offense as come up. His close in doesn’t necessarily project come up into the new NHL where smaller shiftier forwards can make desire difficult for bigger men (Steckel is 6’5. 215) but his effort can go a desire way to compensate for that. In a way. Steckel is a throwback to a time when “plumbers” meant more than guys with wrenches and butt-cracks (my apologies to plumbers…we couldn’t resist). Having been patient enough to work his way up the rungs of the organizational ladder one would undergo to bet on Steckel… uh sticking. “The dragon go of night o’erspreads the earth.”-- Troilus and Cressida (V viii)Matt Bradley plays with a certain ferocity that fills the ice. He might not be the most gifted player in terms of skill but Bradley can make his presence felt in other ways that can contribute to the Caps’ success. He is pretty much the skating embodiment of the term. “energy forward.” He ordain hit analyse agitate or contend (if necessary) to make the most of his minutes. Playing with an advance is one of those rough corners that the NHL seems intent on sanding down. Well. Bradley is more sandpaper than something to be sanded. The numbers and higher talent aim put him in a numbers crunch but his surviving the measure roster decisions is a reflection of his survivability and tenacity. The Caps don’t have a lot of forwards who can carry that every night – at least so as to make opponents uncomfortable. He’s.
